I have ordered cakes from La Bon before but this was my first time getting a custom cake. I wanted to order a custom SpongeBob theme cake for a 25th birthday party and I wanted it to look a certain way. La Bon had a form online where you can specify what you want and put pictures for inspiration. It was super easy and simple to do! I needed the cake by Sunday morning so I decided to place the order on Thursday since it was a holiday weekend and I knew they might be busy with orders. I put in a request for a 8" round cake with vanilla cake and chocolate custard filling. I submitted the request on Thursday afternoon and got a response by Thursday evening that I needed to call or come in person by Friday afternoon to officially place the order and pay. I called on Friday and spoke to Tina over the phone, she was really nice and took her time explaining the order to me and answering questions. I felt for a custom cake with this level of detail it was well worth the price which came out to about $80. I picked up my cake on Sunday with no issues and was shocked by how beautiful the cake came out. It was exactly what I wanted it to look like, the color was a perfect match to the picture I sent in and to top it all off, it was DELICIOUS! The cake was so moist and fluffy and the chocolate custard was just perfect. 1000% will be coming back here for more custom cakes- I couldn't have asked for a better experience and it was exactly what we wanted to celebrate for a 25th birthday. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite bakeries in the area. My family has been going to La Bon for years and Plpretty much everything I've tried here so far has been amazing. Lately I've tried the strawberry short cake and tres leches. The strawberry shortcake is one of my favorite cakes there. It is not too sweet, the cake is super moist and the whipped cream is perfect. The caramel tres leches was also very good. There was some banana in it which I enjoyed and the cake was nicely saturated with milk. Other things I recommend are their brown derby cake and their raspberry lemon mini cake. Also, the staff is always friendly and willing to help and give suggestions. read more

My favorite bakery in Edison! The chains truly cannot compete against this place. While I usually stop by for one of their monthly weekend specials or a cake for a celebration, (which you MUST get a brown derby for; I cannot find another bakery who makes one like La Bon!) today I stopped by for some treats for a little picnic. They have such a huge selection, from cookies to cupcakes, cakes to bread, you are bound to find something for you here. On today's trip, I bought 2 of the banana split cupcakes, 1 key lime cupcake, 1 mango mousse cupcake, and 1 macchacino cupcake. All of them were moist and flavorful, but my favorite was definitely the banana split! Such a beautiful and unique take on a classic ice cream dessert with surprise pineapple filling. Parking is a bit limited, but I have never had a problem with it since most people are in and out since the service is so friendly and fast. The shop is a cluster Fu... on a busy Sunday because the owner is too cheap to put a numbering system to wait like every other bakery. Customers stand on one line without a number que and others come in the other door and walk right up. The strawberry cream was light and complimented the cake well. And the star of the show, the strawberry jam in the center of the cake truly added a new dimension to the cake. I've only ever ordered one item from La Bon so I can only comment on this item: the brownie. The brownie is so fudgy, moist, and delicious that every time I come back, I need to order it again. My first time coming here, I didn't intend to order anything, I was just waiting for my pizza order next door, but I saw the brownie and absolutely knew I needed to try it and I'm glad I did. I've been back to La Bon every time I'm craving a sweet treat and just can't not get the brownie. After that, I went anytime I needed a really good quality cake. My favorite order was a chocolate cake with cannoli filling and fudge icing! So rich! There are specials every month and even every week, so if you have a sweet tooth, you can regularly spoil yourself with specialty cakes and treats. If you've never had a rainbow cookie, it's more like a small piece of cake with three layers, each a different color (I believe it's supposed to a nod to the flag of Italy) with almond, raspberry, and chocolate flavors. I know I'm not the only fan of these because one of the times I came here they said someone had just come in prior and bought their entire stock. I'm sooooo surprised I've never written a review for La Bonbonniere (now La Bon I guess). I've been going here for forever and I'm never disappointed! We get cakes here for all our special occasions and it's always a crowd pleaser both aesthetically and how it tastes. I'm always asked "where did you get this cake/dessert??". Its always a crowd favorite and always beautiful! I wish they had a regular rewards program because I would be earning some serious rewards haha. I highly recommend their oreo cake, their raspberry chocolate cake, and anything chocolate to be honest. Their cookies, doughnuts, and small desserts are delicious as well. If you're in the mood for something savory their freshlynkade sandwiches are oddly delicious I don't know what they do to make them so good. I'm never leaving empty handed if I walk in. I also love how you can call ahead and order any of their cakes and they'll make sure it's beautifully decorated and personalized with a name in any color icing you want. Some places make you feel like you're hassling them to do this but not La Bon. They make you feel like they're celebrating whatever special occasion you are celebrating alongside you. This is the bakery where we get all our birthday cakes from, because they are delicious! They do a beautiful job decorating and year after year, we have never been disappointed by their cakes. Some of the ones we've tried are Red Velvet, Chocolate Raspberry and this last one was White vanilla with fresh strawberries and cream filling. I come here at least twice a month for cupcakes. I only come when the peanut butter, caramel delight, apple, or birthday cupcakes are available. Those 4 are always delicious! This morning my friend picked up a junior chocolate peanut butter cake we were going to enjoy after dinner tonight. It was a steal at only $9.50. The cake was moist, but the cake itself was bland! I did a brown derby filling( which is actually a cake they sell that looks like a dome with yummy fruits) So I did a 8 inch round cake with vanilla cake with banana , fresh strawberries, pineapples , peaches with fresh whipped cream and whipped cream icing . It fed almost 20 people with some to spare. It's so light and just the right amount of sweetness . I took this cake 2 hours away to Long Island and the cake was still in tact when I got there .. I spend about $46 on the cake however it was well worth it . If you are looking for a great bakery this is it . My only complaint is the staff there - the girl who took my order cared less to even take my order . I kind of had to guess my own size and filling . The only reason I was fine was because I actually worked here way back when so I kind of know some of the fillings . Also if they could make chocolate cake in eggless that would be great. Quality cakes for any occasion! We ordered two cakes here for my friends birthday. Online ordering, payment, and pick up were all simple and efficient. Bakers and cashiers were incredibly friendly and prompt throughout the whole process. The red velvet cheesecake is a sugar lover's dream, with cloyingly sweet cheese cake and cream cheese icing laced in between layers of moist, red chocolate cake. The brown derby was by far the favorite. Light and fruity, the subtle sweetness of the whipped cream and moist cake paired perfectly with the sugared fruits. I never thought bananas, pineapples, peaches, and strawberries could all work on one cake, but La Bonbonniere bakery clearly proved me wrong. Writing on the cakes come at no additional charge! With minimal instruction, they lettered each cake in a well spaced and festive manner. I highly recommend this establishment for delicious cakes. I've been getting my cakes here for years ( since I was around 7 years old) and still, nobody beats their birthday cakes! I live down the shore now so cant make frequent visits. I still haven't found a comparable bakery, as there are too many grocery & club stores down here that have the cake market locked! My hope is one day La Bon expands to the shore! 4 stars because my only issue is that when I have ordered birthday cakes and request whipped cream, I get butter cream! This happened the last couple times. I did get a free cake the one time it happened, but didn't want to complain the second time. I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to get free cakes. I also live down the shore, an hour and a half away, so the trip back up is not always easy. It is very hard to tell the difference between the WC & BC, because the taste is just that great! So I will just try to stress it over the phone next time I order. Even with that said, I still get my kids cakes from here during their birthdays and people love it! You really can't go wrong with anything here! I'm not sure if they do the chocolography here anymore, but I had beautiful custom chocolate lollipops made years ago for my daughter's birthday and it was awesome too!
