I have ordered cakes from La Bon before but this was my first time getting a custom cake. I wanted to order a custom SpongeBob theme cake for a 25th birthday party and I wanted it to look a certain way. La Bon had a form online where you can specify what you want and put pictures for inspiration. It was super easy and simple to do! I needed the cake by Sunday morning so I decided to place the order on Thursday since it was a holiday weekend and I knew they might be busy with orders. I put in a request for a 8" round cake with vanilla cake and chocolate custard filling. I submitted the request on Thursday afternoon and got a response by Thursday evening that I needed to call or come in person by Friday afternoon to officially place the order and pay. I called on Friday and spoke to Tina over the phone, she was really nice and took her time explaining the order to me and answering questions. I felt for a custom cake with this level of detail it was well worth the price which came out to about $80. I picked up my cake on Sunday with no issues and was shocked by how beautiful the cake came out. It was exactly what I wanted it to look like, the color was a perfect match to the picture I sent in and to top it all off, it was DELICIOUS! The cake was so moist and fluffy and the chocolate custard was just perfect. 1000% will be coming back here for more custom cakes- I couldn't have asked for a better experience and it was exactly what we wanted to celebrate for a 25th birthday. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite bakeries in the area. My family has been going to La Bon for years and Plpretty much everything I've tried here so far has been amazing. Lately I've tried the strawberry short cake and tres leches. The strawberry shortcake is one of my favorite cakes there. It is not too sweet, the cake is super moist and the whipped cream is perfect. The caramel tres leches was also very good. There was some banana in it which I enjoyed and the cake was nicely saturated with milk. My favorite bakery in Edison! The chains truly cannot compete against this place. While I usually stop by for one of their monthly weekend specials or a cake for a celebration, (which you MUST get a brown derby for; I cannot find another bakery who makes one like La Bon!) today I stopped by for some treats for a little picnic. They have such a huge selection, from cookies to cupcakes, cakes to bread, you are bound to find something for you here. On today's trip, I bought 2 of the banana split cupcakes, 1 key lime cupcake, 1 mango mousse cupcake, and 1 macchacino cupcake. All of them were moist and flavorful, but my favorite was definitely the banana split! Such a beautiful and unique take on a classic ice cream dessert with surprise pineapple filling. Parking is a bit limited, but I have never had a problem with it since most people are in and out since the service is so friendly and fast. Two words: Rainbow Cookies. I don't even see a need to get anything else, these are soooooo good. I just don't understand how they are so moist and delicious. If you've never had a rainbow cookie, it's more like a small piece of cake with three layers, each a different color (I believe it's supposed to a nod to the flag of Italy) with almond, raspberry, and chocolate flavors. I know I'm not the only fan of these because one of the times I came here they said someone had just come in prior and bought their entire stock. This last time, we went in around 8 am on our way to the airport to ensure that we were the first to buy the entire stock! I'm sooooo surprised I've never written a review for La Bonbonniere (now La Bon I guess). I've been going here for forever and I'm never disappointed! We get cakes here for all our special occasions and it's always a crowd pleaser both aesthetically and how it tastes. I'm always asked "where did you get this cake/dessert??". Its always a crowd favorite and always beautiful! I wish they had a regular rewards program because I would be earning some serious rewards haha. I highly recommend their oreo cake, their raspberry chocolate cake, and anything chocolate to be honest. Their cookies, doughnuts, and small desserts are delicious as well. If you're in the mood for something savory their freshlynkade sandwiches are oddly delicious I don't know what they do to make them so good. I'm never leaving empty handed if I walk in. I also love how you can call ahead and order any of their cakes and they'll make sure it's beautifully decorated and personalized with a name in any color icing you want. It fed almost 20 people with some to spare. It's so light and just the right amount of sweetness . I took this cake 2 hours away to Long Island and the cake was still in tact when I got there .. I spend about $46 on the cake however it was well worth it . If you are looking for a great bakery this is it . My only complaint is the staff there - the girl who took my order cared less to even take my order . I kind of had to guess my own size and filling . The only reason I was fine was because I actually worked here way back when so I kind of know some of the fillings . Also if they could make chocolate cake in eggless that would be great.
