Three of us had dinner here last night 09/21/16. Atmosphere was very nice, we sat downstairs. There is a stairway leading upstairs where you can also dine, but I did not visit upstairs, I will on next visit.
At the beginning of the dinner experience we were provided with toasted mini pieces of bread with a flavored butter, it was ok.
As an appetizer we ordered calamari which was served on a bed of rice, and was outstanding! Not too crispy, not too gummy, just great!
As another appetizer we requested a serving of California rolls, which tasted very fresh and were magnificent!!!
My two dinner companions ordered the crab cakes which were noted by the waiter to be made up of actually 95% crab, they both claimed the crab cakes were to die for!!!
I ordered a gumbo soup, it was sort of bland, and I mentioned this to the waiter. He offered to switch it for another type of soup but I did not take him up on the offer. I simply doused it with quite a bit of tabasco sauce and ate it. I would have thought that given my subtle complaint about the soup that it would have been comped (it was only $10). It was not comped.
One of my dinner companions had a lobster bisque soup which he stated was amazing! He almost licked the bowl.
I had the signature dish of the restaurant, the Red Curry Lobster, it was AMAZING!!! I regret not taking photos of the food to include here, but believe me this dish was fabulous. A waiter came by the table and placed a bowl of white rice in front of me, he then proceeded to scoop on top and around the ball of rice on my bowl, some lobster pieces and red lobster curry. It was looking pretty darn good even before I ate it. As soon as I tried it, I couldn't stop eating it, totally DELICIOUS!!!! The waiter had mentioned that this dish recently received one of the top awards for a restaurant within the metropolitan Washington DC area...i can believe it!
For desert, we had some key lime pie with a ball of lime sorbet.....fabulous way to end the night....desert was also delicious.
POSITIVES:
Overall food was very good. Tasted fresh and presentation was very nice. Great place to bring a date or like us, to get together with good friends/family at a very nice atmosphere restaurant with fabulous food.
NEGATIVES:
The toasted crackers were just ok.
No bread was automatically served to us. We didn't ask for any, so don't know if that was a requirement. Caveat: As dinner was ending, I had to loosen my belt by one hole, so maybe it was best that we didn't have any bread!
The gumbo soup...not very good at all. Very bland, which required my having to drown it in tabasco sauce. Granted, the waiter offered to replace it, but I did not take him up on the offer.
Ok, get ready for my Biggest Complaint of the evening.....two of us at dinner only drank water, and our water glasses were constantly bottoming out dry! I did mention to our waiter at the beginning of our dinner, that if our water glasses can be kept full, then we will be certain to have a wonderful dinner experience, so much for my water request! He did acknowledge that our water glasses would be topped off, but they were not. The water glasses are regular tall boy type water glasses, and although I don't drink like a camel, I do enjoy drinking water with my dinner. On at least 2 different occasions I had to motion to other waiters to please refill our water glasses. This just bugged me for such a very nice and upscale restaurant!
The foregoing is the most honest review I can provide, and the reason I am giving Passion Fish at Reston Town Center a 4 stars out of 5.
Upon exiting I informed two young ladies at the front desk that the food was fabulous, and we had a great dinner experience, but that their employees should be a little more attentive to refilling the water glasses of patrons. I requested that they pass along this message to management. I hope they put my suggestion into future practice.
Will I come back again to this restaurant? Absolutely! But next time I will try to experience dinning from their upstairs sitting area, and again, I will reiterate my request to please have my water glass refilled before I have to make such a request to any of the wait staff and interrupt my meal experience. read more
