Fantastic Place.
So, long story short, my husband and I had to wait for my very good friend to fly into Dulles from Germany, so we decided to spend our time before her flight came in at PassionFish, oh yeah, and we had reservations that night there as well. Her flight was not scheduled to get in until 6, but our stomachs could not wait that long. So we drove all the way from DC (hence the reason we did so at 3, so we would beat the afternoon traffic), and got to PassionFish right when Happy Hour started. To my surprise, only 5 minutes past the time they opened for HH, the bar was full!! What? Luckily, we were able to grab a seat adjacent to the bar, at the curved part facing the host stand.
Our bartender was fantastic!!!! We spent almost two hours there drinking and eating, and then it was time to go get my friend, so I convinced my husband to let me stay and go to Banana Republic while he went to Dulles ;) Man I have a great husband. So I spent some money at BR and came back a little before my other party arrived and with enough time to grab one more happy hour drink.
I grabbed a seat at the bar and yet another bartender was wonderful, friendly (and kind of dreamy, shh, don't tell my husband). I ordered a glass of wine, and started that before letting the host know my party was parking. They sat me and my hubby and friend walked in. Yay, happy me.
Since I had kind of stuffed myself earlier, I only ordered a small salad and a sushi roll (absolutely fantastic). We all ordered two more drinks at the table, and we all ordered a roll of sushi and some other small dish, like mac and cheese or something of the sort. Our waitress was not really the best we have ever had....by any means. Although we had requested for her not to take our bread after she attempted to, (because we were still drinking and snacking on it), she came back 2 minutes later and took it. Angry...and then we ordered dessert, which was absolutely breathtaking. I rarely, and when I say rarely, I mean once a year, order dessert, so it was a treat. Spot on flavors and beautiful presentation. But again, the waitress kept either ignoring us, or rushing us. We were trying to order another drink after our dessert, and instead of coming over to see if we wanted anything else, she gave us our check.....we did not ask for the check. I did feel very frustrated with her, and I hated being rushed, especially when my friend from Germany just came in. I chose to bring my friend to this restaurant, out of all the other restaurants in the area, but she was the only negative aspect.
The food was delicious, all of it! All of our rolls were great, the sides were good, all the food I had at the bar (which was a lot), was wonderful. (bar food including but not limited to, the oyster shooters, the burger sliders, the ceviche, the tacos, several several drinks, like margaritas and beer and wine, and at the table we had sushi, the bread with the amazing butter (OMG), mac and cheese, salad, creme brulee, lemon meringue mini tart).
I would visit this place again for the food and the bar service. John and Stephen were lovely and welcoming. Thanks guys!
The male host could use a little more, umm...spark and perhaps a smile, he was not the friendliest of people, but I was told that is just how he is.
Go for the food, eat at the bar, drink a lot, enjoy the Happy Hour. read more
