I had high hopes for Paseo, having bookmarked this place for years now, but unfortunately the food experience simply didn't deliver what I needed in this rainy Seattle weather. The spot is super casual and the servers are very kind and helpful with a minor language barrier. If you want to try one of their sandwiches and you do eat pork, give the spot a try. When I had the steak and Swiss melt, the flavor simply wasn't there. For a $30 meal (sandwich and salad) I truly hoped for a bit more

Cubano
Lizzie S.

My old boss used to live in Seattle. When a lot of old coworkers were all visiting, he decided to treat us to what he declared to be the best Cubano sandwich in not just the city, but the country. I'm no Cubano connoisseur, but it was a pretty dang good sandwich. It was warm, spicy, meaty, large, and messy. It was a lot--in so many ways. Split the sandwich and enjoy!

Host was extremely friendly and helpful, offering nuanced input on what to order ("is it your first time here?" and "we can do half and half between pickled jalapeños and banana peppers to see what you like"). Exceptional service! We noticed him going out of his way to provide service to other patrons as well. Cozy interior, though there were just a handful of tables. We came at 2:30pm on a Monday, so there was no wait. Was really looking forward to trying this spot, since I've heard it's famous. The Caribbean Roast was exceptional and juicy--a great number of napkins were needed. Loved this place

I'm not really a sandwich person but the sandwich here was really good. A very small place with a couple of small tables inside and out. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. A no frills kinda place but they do make good food.

Well..... I haven't had this in legit 10 years. I had it last in 2015 and I have been craving it ever since!!! I got to go back this August and it was a hit. It was still as good as I remembered and the sandwich was huge, dripping with flavor. Prices have gone up, but what hasn't?? The taste is still consistent and I wish I had one of these in my side of the country. Enjoyed and would recommend!! I sat outside and enjoyed the great August Seattle weather. Self service so it's easy.

Slow roasted pork shoulder sandwich.

Catching a flight home after a great weekend in Seattle and could not complete the trip without having a Caribbean slow roasted pork shoulder sandwich from Paseo. This place is legendary for this sandwich over several decades. The original stand is still here and packed with excited patrons. We ordered two sandwiches to go for the plane. The sandwiches were packed with juicy flavors from the slow roasted pork shoulder, pickled jalapenos, cilantro, caramelized onions, romaine lettuce, garlic aioli stuffed into a toasted baguette. It could not be any more perfect and messy. The sweetness of the onions, crispy romaine, flavorful aioli and tender pork wrapped in a warm baguette make this sandwich iconic. For the perfect sandwich with complex flavors and overall deliciousness, get to Paseo for the slow roasted pork shoulder sandwich. After 25+ years, it definitely has lasted the test of time. Congrats to Paseo for this timeless masterpiece.

A Seattle must-have no matter the location you go to! This isn't the location that most of my friends go to in the SODO area, but it still hits the spot the same. I came here on a Tuesday evening about 30 minutes before closing time, and most chairs inside were already on tables, expect for the small outdoor seating where there were still as good number of people sitting at. The inside is very casual as is the outdoor area. I got their famous Caribbean roast sandwich, and this is as loaded as I remember having it! Meat is tender, juicy and flavorful, and I didn't mind how messy it got and how things were falling out of it for some time. One sandwich is definitely enough for one person since it's already pretty big, so I wouldn't get another one unless you were really hungry. Water, napkins and other utensils are self-serve in this location. I don't have too much to say about the food here, but some places just don't need that. You just have to come try here (and their other locations) yourself!

Caribbean Nachos

Great sandwiches! I also love that they have a good happy hour menu with some pretty solid discounts. Definitely worth checking out. Adds to the Seattle food scene a lot. My only complaint would be the staff seemed really unenthusiastic and not happy to see any of the customers lol. It's a small thing, of course, but impacts the experience a little bit. The food is solid and if you don't care for the experience too much, this is a place to go!

I ordered: 1. Caribbean Roast sandwich - signature marinated & slow roasted pork shoulder, cilantro, pickled jalapenos, caramelized onions, romaine 2. Yuca Fries - Caribbean seasoning, cilantro aioli One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Roast Pork was so flavorful, juicy, tender, and plentiful in portion. Sandwich as a whole was flavorful and the bread was fresh, not dry. Yuca fries were good but needed more seasoning. Cilantro aioli paired great with the yuca fries. Service was good. There's a few seats inside.

Ordering is quick and easy! Free street parking in the area. Caribbean fries: good crisp, nice potato inside, good seasoning! Comes with a dip too. I definitely recommend the fries if you're feeling something crispy to eat with your meal Alaskan Cod (new to me sandwich): grilled fish, so tender! Pretty garlicky and very tasty sandwich! But boy is it tough to get some good bites in because of the type of bread. Everything squishes out the back. But I guess it's not a paseo sandwich unless your hands are messy and you're eating sandwich innards off your paper with a giant onion piece. Pork belly sandwich (also new to me!): super tasty pork and nice thick pieces of pork belly. I recommend this sandwich and also recommend halving it with someone because it's pretty fatty/rich.

Famous Caribbean Roast

So lucky to score a table before the lunch crowd came in! The shop is small, but surprisingly busy. Of course, I tried the sandwich that they're known for: the Famous Caribbean Roast. While I do love a juicy pork shoulder, I found the meat rather bland. The caramelized onions imparted the most flavor. The sandwich was dripping wet and the bread became soggy real quick. It's a messy experience, which is probably why the staff provide ample wet naps and napkins.

Really good sandwiches! I got their #1 Caribbean roast with a side of yuca fries and was not disappointed - especially loved the caramelized onions Lots of comparisons to un bien and i purposefully got the same thing to compare- honestly you can't go wrong with either, I think Paseo is a dollar or two more, but I felt like the sandwich was also slightly larger

The #2. Paseo Press
Eva L.

Pork Tasted a little bit drier than I was expecting but they do pack a lot of meat in there for a $17-20 sandwich. I got the most popular Caribbean roast and the paseo press and I think I liked the paseo press slightly better because of the cilantro and Swiss cheese but both tasted very similar and included banana peppers as well as grilled/roasted onions of some sort. Also got the tostones which had a crunchy chewy dense texture and came with a mayo. Was salty but didn't have too distinct of a flavor outside of that but I liked that there were scallions in it.

Does anyone know when their scallop season is? Last time I went, they didn't have the scallop sandwich and I DREAM of that thing.

I DREAM about that thing too LMAO

Would their popular sandwiches be good if eaten 3 hrs later?

Sure. Only the romaine leaf will be a bit wilted.

Are they open on memorial day?

Awesome!

Cash only still?

They definitely take credit cards.

Any vegan options here?

They have a tofu delight in their menu.

Do they still take in call in orders? I used to do that before the new management.

They take call in orders but no delivery

this sandwich was highly impressive as the main part of the…read moresandwich, it was pretty necessary that the pork be cooked to near-perfection, and i have to say it was here it gave off a deep, brown-ish color, which showed the extent of it's cooking and marination. It wasn't quite incredibly tender, but the marinade added an absolute ton of flavor. more importantly, it was present plentifully throughout the sandwich, so practically every bite came filled with pork I also have to mention how packed together the ingredients are between the buns. when you start eating, it's inevitable that a quarter of the ingredients will fall onto the wrap below, leaving a nice secondary meal to finish off after the sandwich is done. the sandwich is packed incredibly tight during the wrapping process, but it unravels a bit while eating. for me, the major highlights of this meal was the onions and the aioli Starting with the onions, these may be the best I've ever had on a sandwich. They're caramelized amazingly, placed onto the sandwich in astoundingly large pieces, are crunchy, and there's just a lot of them. They're just wonderful both texturally and taste-wise. This sandwich is absolutely lathered with aioli - practically dripping with it. This boosted the overall flavor so much, especially because this aioli was addictingly good. In my experience, the amount of sauce has been directly proportional to how much I enjoyed a sandwich, and when the sauce is this good - it's even on the top of the bun! - i absolutely loved it Somehow the lettuce stayed crunchy despite all the otherwise wetness going on in the sandwich. Props for that The jalapenos were great as well for that extra bit of spicy - I would've loved to have more of them while the bread was toasted well, the one downside was i thought it was pretty hard and tough, which made chewing kind of difficult. I found my jaw to be pretty tired at the end after eating this. I would've much preferred a softer roll that's easier to bite into I've had similar sandwiches from Paseo and Bongos, and in my opinion this does edge out both of those Comparing to Paseo, the sandwich there has way more oil, making it more sloppy and I do like the bread there a lot better, but the pork feels richer and better marinated here (although less fatty), and the onions are definitely caramelized better here as well. Bongos has a pretty similar level of pork with more, but onions are definitely a step down What moves this place above those two for me is the amount of aioli used here far exceeds those other places, which just makes the overall eating experience better For the price (about 14 dollars) this is a really filling meal

Walking in, the layout suggests they are also a party/mini-concert/event space. Service is casual; we were told to sit anywhere. I should have boogied my way to the table. Our server was helpful, guiding portion size and optional sides. The Food: Jerk Chicken plate, add steamed veggie, $20 + $2 - 5 Stars True to the jerk seasoning, theirs is spicy, as it should be. I find it annoying when jerk seasoning isn't spicy enough. The seasoning tastes even spicier when I drink water, and the heat spreads. So good! I was also happy they use boned chicken, which is more flavorful. I asked about veggies, that is $2 extra. Oxtails plate, add rice & peas, $24 + $1 - 5 Stars With beefy stock, these oxtail pieces are well-seasoned and paired well with root vegetables. A small salad and the rice & peas are a good match to the oxtail. I enjoy seeing oxtails used in different recipes. Jamaican patty, $5 - 5 Stars These beef meat pies are freshly baked and arrived at our table smoking hot. We were happy that we ordered two, so we wouldn't have to share. Haha. Very delicious. Plantains, $8 - 5 Stars From the appetizers portion of the menu, these are perfectly fried, caramelized, with minimal blackened carcinogens. This plate was a particularly good batch.

Everything arrived at once rather than in courses, but it didn't take away from the experience. Every dish was packed with flavor. The aloo pies had a taste reminiscent of samosas :: crispy on the outside with a warmly spiced filling :: and were served with a tangy chutney that complemented them perfectly. The jerk chicken was the standout. Tender, juicy, and beautifully seasoned with warm, balanced spices :: it was easily the highlight of the meal. It came with rice and peas (beans), which were some of the best we've had, along with a simple green salad that surprised us with its freshness and bright citrus vinaigrette. The pricing is pretty good for rice bowls (probably an underrated order, though slightly smaller portions to the sandwich). I got the seafood in red sauce and got the scallops, which was priced at $10.75 for a satisfying meal - not too big but not too small. Hard to find seafood dishes at this price point so I appreciate it being fairly accessible in price. The red sauce is like a Cajun like sauce but not spicy - it is very flavorful. The pickled cabbage adds a bit of tang to the dish to accentuate the flavors of the other ingredients. I tried a bite of my friend's fish of the day (Mahi mahi) sandwich which has similar fixings to the Caribbean pork sandwich - always love their garlic aioli and caramelized onions.
