We went there for lunch for French restaurant week. We ordered from the prefix lunch menu, which had great selections and their regular prices very reasonable with many under $20. Appetizer: asparagus soup and gazpacho- both very good. Entre: duck confit- Excellant, perfectly moist meat cooked perfectly with a nice crispy skin. Beef short ribs- OK. It was a little too sweet for my liking. Desert: There were only 2 selections but you can't go wrong with any desert at a French restaurant. A pretty decent little French restaurant on the UES, with a fairly eclectic menu (shumai? that has to be frozen, right) Nonetheless, the brunch menu was a pretty good deal - a lot of food, entree and dessert, and a drink. We had the boeuf bourguignon (it's a french place) which was pretty good, especially with the mashed potatoes, the BBQ ribs (I did say eclectic...), which were also surprisingly good, and the truffle and cheese omelette (OK). The desserts were also pretty good, though our pistachio ice cream was completely melted... and I'm not sure I was convinced when they told us it was supposed to be like that. First, most importantly, the food: good but not great French-style fare. When I went with my mom they'd forgotten our reservation. It took almost 25 minutes after sitting down before we were able to order, and that was after we'd asked, "could we order now?" three different times. This was followed by similarly lagging service the whole time. This small and quaint French restaurant offers lovely food and beautiful service. Even though the food was excellent (I had duck confit and death by chocolate cake), the service was top notch, from the start of the meal to finish. One of my colleagues reserved the top floor of the restaurant for a retirement party. Even though my coworker and I showed up at least half an hour before the rest of the large party, we were still seated and offered menus. Near the end of the dinner, the staff was cleaning up plates and removed a chocolate cake I had not finished. When I complained, my server packed me an extra slice of cake to take home. The staff at Pascalou really make me feel like a VIP, and I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

My friend and I came for the brunch prix fixe during the weekend. The overall atmosphere of Pascalou is very cozy. We were seated upstairs and catered to by friendly yet professional servers. At $18, the brunch prix fixe is hard to beat. I ordered the Two Eggs "Sunny Side Up" with a White Sangria, and bread pudding for dessert. The food wasn't phenomenal, but if you factored the price into the equation, it was pretty close to it. The scottish smoked salmon paired with hollandaise was incredible. It really hit the spot for a satisfying weekend brunch. The bread pudding was also a great way to end the meal. It wasn't any fancy extravagant dessert, but it was warm and filling and is reminiscent of what your grandmother might cook up. I will definitely be back at Pascalou. read more

I don't usually eat meals at "normal" hours. Breakfast at 1, lunch at 4, dinner at 10... but when I do, I go to Pascalou. Their three course lunch pre fixe for $20 is a delicious steal. I usually get a salad - the goat cheese or feta salads are a good bet- and the chicken paillard, which is perfectly pounded (not dry or too chewy) and comes with a delicious lemony sauce on the side. To make it even better, the waiting staff and hosts are very nice, and the atmosphere is cozy and well decorated. My boyfriend also really wants to come here in a snow storm, if that means anything. read more

My friend and I stumbled upon this place on a Saturday afternoon after searching for a brunch place in the UES. It's a cute charming restaruant, french style bistro, with tables inside and outside. The front of the restuants opens up, which means you can sit inside but feel like you're outside. It was fairly empty when we arrived, which made me a little skeptical. We both ordered from the pre fixed brunch menu, which included an entree, a drink, and a dessert. I got the eggs benedict, a coffee ,and a strawberry tart. They also brought out bread and olive oil which was a nice addition. The eggs benedict were okay, definitely not the best i've had. The strawberry tart was good and the coffee was meh. The service was lacking. I had to ask for my coffee a few times. It didn't come until after i got my food, which was annoying. Overal, it's a nice place but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. read more

My go-to place on the UES. Try the prix fixe dinner, which I think they serve until 6:30. An excellent after-museum value. Short ribs and duck confit are two great choices. Food is rich, beautifully prepared and more than ample; by the last of dessert you'll be stuffed and happy. It's the satisfying kind of food you crave and really *want* to eat, especially in winter. The room (downstairs at least) is delightful. Really a grown-up pleasure. The check won't give you a heart attack and (science now tells us) the food won't either, so for heaven's sake indulge. 12/10/17: Have to upgrade to five stars. Cozy and quaint spot on the upper east side. I had lunch with a friend on a Saturday and we had a very nice time. Food is tasty and seasoned well, the prefix menu is a great value, and the service was very good. No complaints overall but the venue is really small. Don't go with more than 3 people! I went here for a Mother's Day Brunch. We were "told" we "must arrive no later than 11:00 AM" since the place was completely booked up, and they were giving us their last reservation. Well, we arrived at 10:50 -- there was a group of three (without reservations) that were turned away. We were then promptly seated in a really nice cozy dining room upstairs -- Thing was, we were the ONLY customers in the restaurant. Service was very pleasant but a little weird (four people asked me if I wanted coffee, but it didn't arrive for a really long time) Otherwise the food was very good -- The wild mushroom and brie omelet with white truffle oil took me right back to Paris -- very light, almost crepe like. The smoked salmon salad was tasty. The Prix Fixe Mother's Day brunch was a little pricey ($28.95), but there was an option to order off an A la carte menu as well. We arrived promptly at 8 o clock and we were led to a special table, Table 15. It is on the mid level of the restaurant adjacent the kitchen and looking over the diners below and the street in the distance. Id not been here before but my friends had, many times they told me, and they raved about the food. What I liked about the restaurant right off is that it feels like a small French restaurant in Paris and one is made to feel welcome right away li ; very comfortable as my friend said. And though every table filled the room was both comfortable and relaxed. The menu is inventive, terrific and a wine list of wine by the glass too. Great service btw , extremely friendly and accommodating and never rushed though you could tell the place was busy. Starters were Casear Salad for me and Fennel and Roasted Artichoke Hearts for my friends. The salad was fresh smart topped with pimentos which added a nice contrast to the salad.greens and croutons My main course was Chicken Milanese, my friends Sweetbread Pot Pie Mine was a wonderful arrangement of delicious thin slices of chicken then a side of vegetables and a small dish of risotto with cheese, along with a tartare sauce that compliment the chicken oh so well. The simple ingredients became a magnificent meal; my friends nodded with approval ! Dessert was shared by the three of us, a delicious Apple Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream -- a perfect sweet to end a great dinner. We went on a steaming summer day. No air conditioning. Very buggy ( as the doors were open to the outside.) The second floor, where we sat, is reached by a very steep staircase that requires some athletic prowess. Once we were upstairs, we got our food, but the servers were otherwise absent and could be summoned only by telephone. The food was average continental/French. I Had Lunch there because the universe told me too. Actually I was going someplace else and the parking spot I found was right in front of the establishment so ... I ordered iceberg lettuce wedge with Roquefort and sautéed soft-shell crabs which were off menu. I absolutely love the food here, and still don't understand how their beet salad is so flavorful. The only vegetarian entree is a pasta dish that is actually pretty good and comes with three "sauces" to eat it with; it's very elegantly presented and my whole meal was not as costly as I had expected (~$30). The brunch is very good also, and they serve the pasta dish then too. The dessert was amazing. Minus one star for the crowd and space - UES CEOs who don't enjoy sitting next to the 47%, and make it obvious, and it doesn't help that space is tight (3 glasses broke from people walking by and knocking them over during my dinner there.) read more

I just left a nice dinner at Pascalou. I had the short rib and my boyfriend had the steak. We enjoyed our meal...especially the bread pudding for dessert ! The place looks like it has been untouched by time. It is a neighborhood hangout on the UES catering to the locals. I definitely enjoyed my time there although I do have a critique. The hostess really left a poor taste in our mouths. At the end of her shift she goes to the back table and starts FaceTiming on full volume with no headphones in. My boyfriend and I were still dining and trying to enjoy our meal but were distracted by her rudeness. Then when we thought it couldn't get worse, she walks across the restaurant still FaceTiming on the phone without headphones so everyone can hear her. I just felt it was very out of place with the general ambiance of the restaurant. As a former hostess myself, I never would have acted that way in front of customers. read more

Had a wonderful dinner here tonight. We had reservations for the $24.95 Prix Fixe menu and enjoyed every morsel. There was a wide selection of appetizers and entrees. I chose Mussels Vinaigrette followed by grilled lamb chops. Both were ample portions that were cooked to perfection. Yelp offered a free glass of wine upon checking in. A nice treat for both my dinner companion and myself. Service was quite attentive in this lovely, intimate French restaurant. This is a hidden gem. We will certainly return! read more

This was my first brunch experience in NY. It was reasonably priced and good. But I ordered eggs that were supposed to come with salmon and came without it. discovering this intimate restaurant in the neighborhood gave me one of those emotional NYC moments, when you are deeply disturbed and traumatized with the mice, the smell and the rent and ready to pack up and run away, but then you find yourself sitting by the window at this little UES restaurant, waking up your taste buds to the symphony of flavors and getting butterflies in your stomach for NYC, again. I had the chicken Thai salad and my husband had the fillet mignon with hollandaise sauce and we both cried out of happiness. The chef's wife seated us, she was welcoming and friendly and later my husband asked if we could meet the chef to say hi, which we did. what a lovely family business! Was visiting my Uncle who lives near Pascalou in the UES. Great place! I had the escargot and duck confit paired with an excellent french wine recommended by the waiter. Place is small but I really liked it as it felt cozy and did not feel pretentious like some french restaurants I have been to in the past. Food was fantastic and service was great! Food was confused and not really French. The filet mignon was tiny and poorly executed, and everything was just...ok. Not awful, not good. Some very confusing items on the menu considering it's a French restaurant, including Malaysian curry shrimps and teriyaki steak. The decor is very nice and the place has a cute ambiance. Service was great. My main issue was that we sat on the second floor and the smell of the restroom permeated the area and was rather unpleasant and ruined an otherwise acceptable dining experience. Charming small piece of Paris on the UES. Had dinner there wth a friend. They ordered Maylaysion shrimp, I ordered the filet mignon in a delicious subtle sauce reduction. Both dishes were absolutely wonderful. The service was excellent, water poured immediately, menus handed out, ordrers promptly taken. Being a small place one would think it would seem crowded but it is remarkably quiet and feels spacious. The crowd seems to be neighborhood and local from both East & West sides. Not a tourist spot. A hidden gem. We also had Proseco and a margarita. Both excellent. Wonderful breadbasket accompanied meal. Dessert was warm apple tart ( fantastic) with vanilla ice cream on the side. I rarely order dessert. I find the entree sufficiently filling. But my dining companion persuaded me to go whole hog. It was a bit too filling for me but I'm not one to eat too much at one time, and I noticed many diners ordering desert. If you like delicious French concoctions and have room left for dessert go for it! I highly recommend Pascalou. I would strongly suggest reservations and specify if you want first or second floor if that matters to you. It's small enough and popular enough that while you might get a table as a walk in, worth trying, I would feel more comfortable with a reservation. The prices seem moderate for the quality of the food the charming ambience and the location. Our meal came to about $110.00 including two cocktails, dessert tax and tip. That's a lot of food for about $50 a person. Eliminate a cocktail and dessert and you can have a quite reasonable and excellent meal. Try Pascalou. I'm sure you will be a return customer! read more

Cute gem right around our favorite museums, easy to pop in but reservations recommended. Was full but not overcrowded for a Saturday night. The staff was sweet and friendly staff with excellent service but seem to favor regulars. Would have loved a bit more face time with our server and water haha. I was looking for good, affordable food for before a visit to the Guggenheim, and Pascalou was better than expected! I made a reservation on opentable a few hours before for Sunday lunch for five people. We were running about 15 minutes late, but they were very accommodating. I ordered the shrimp and polenta, which was delicious! They also offer a fixed price menu, which includes a drink (including alcohol), food, and dessert. read more

A question more than a review-- For many years we have come to Pascalou for lunch and--because we're boring--we tend to always order the same dish--"Egg in a Nest--and always enjoy it--the hollandaise came on the egg which was on the smoked salmon which was on the hash browns, the arugula to the side. Sometime during this last year you changed the way this dish is constructed. Why? It would be one thing if you improved the dish, but the opposite was the case. We want to return and wonder what to expect. read more

Went on a Tuesday night, after a preview at the Met. It was spring and we were lucky enough to get a large table in front of the open windows. The place is really tiny and cramped, the tables, itsy bitsy, so this was a score! The food, however, was divine. The use of spices were innovative. The menu is ambitious and creative. Sauted fois gras was perfectly prepared. The duck breast in tamarind sauce was probably one of the most delicious meals I have ever have eaten. REALLY! My date had the rack of lamb tagine. Wow! Then there was the bananas foster... OMG!!! The service was good and they were very polite. Alas, the only problem I have with Pascalou is it is about 70 blocks out of my neighborhood. It will have to be a destination for me, like, 5 times a week! The cab fare is going to kill me. read more
