Great neighborhood French restaurant. Everything we had was great, the mozzarella was so soft, definitely favorite. And dessert, must try! read more

Great restaurant! We stopped for brunch, and they have spacious outdoor seating, and staff all wore masks. Felt very safe, and the food was delicious! They had great brunch specials. Look forward to dining there again. read more

One of my favorite spots in NYC. A true authentic old school vibe with amazing food and service.

The food, atmosphere, service at Pascalou were exemplary. For 18 dollars, the brunch prix fixe was a good bargain, especially for the quality of the dishes. If none of the pre fixe items meets your fancy, there are plenty of other choices to select from. Like most other French restaurants however, they do not have breakfast sausages. My "southern comfort" was ~6 diced cubes of short ribs that's braised to perfection, with a satisfying tenderness. The browning of these glorious meats were as pleasing to the eye as to the tongue. The dish comes with toasts and a huge serving of mashed potatoes, which goes extremely well with the yogurt and mustard on the side. I also helped myself to some foie gras, which also went well beyond my expectations. We had a choice of bread pudding or fruit gelato for our prix fixe dessert. The gelato was a small cup serving but it was tasty and refreshing. The bread pudding was too sweet and I felt the bottom of the pudding was unbearably moist. I'll give credits to our waiter, who switched out our overly burnt bacon. But I was also a bit skeptical when the teensy small side of bacon (2 strips) that eventually made its way to our table was 5 bucks. He ended our brunch on a high note with a free dessert for our friend who didn't get the pre-fixe. I have had a lot of brunches prix fixe menus for under 20 dollars, but Pascalou is definitely up there when it comes to the attention paid to its brunch, with each dish well cared for. read more

I liked this place from the moment I stepped in. After an enjoyable evening at the Cooper Hewitt museum around the corner, we stepped into this cozy neighborhood restaurant not really knowing what to expect. I asked the host for a table for 2 and started taking off my coat, causing my host to immediately started heckling me for my nerve. I knew we'd get along. We got to choose our table in the little space upstairs and were given crayons by our affable host before left with a menu of French fare. Perhaps the menu is drastically different for dinner compared to brunch or perhaps I didn't study it close enough, but I didn't think it was eclectic or nontraditional at all as other reviewers mentioned. My dinner companion and I split a bottle of smooth Pinot Noir which paired perfectly with our truly medium rare hanger steak and duck confit. Now let us pause here to reflect on the Duck Confit. It was divine. The juicy skin fell off the bone and the fat only served to intensify its richness. It's the kind of dish that stops you in your tracks mid-sentence and smile. Oh the Duck Confit. Overall it was a great experience. You really few like you've discovered a local gem when you come here. read more

I took my girlfriend here for dinner one night a while back and it was by far the worst food experience we have had in NYC. I am not a person who throws around 1 star reviews - this place deserves it, and if I could give it no stars I would. The host was very nice when we arrived and I thought it was going to be a good experience. The place was friendly, but once we got our food it was all down hill. We ordered the Warm Goat Cheese Phyllo Tort as an appetizer. First of all, the goat cheese was cold, hard, and very bland. The dough was hard to cut through and not at all what this dish should have been. For dinner I ordered the Scallop, Shrimp & Crab Meat Risotto, and my girlfriend had the Seafood Linguine. Now, I may be a risotto snob, but even putting that aside this dish was discusting. First of all, I could smell the fish - which is never a good sign. Secondly, they used regular white rice (maybe they ran out of Arborio or something, but no excuse) - the dish was mushy and incredibly overcooked. It was nearly inedible. The Seafood Linguine was equally as bad. The pasta was overcooked and bland. The seafood smelled bad and so we didn't eat it. We paid, left our uneaten food and will never be back. This place was horrible. Don't bother. read more

So this was our fourth time dining at Pascalou. We had dinner here once and three brunches. The food is very consistently good. Absolutely delicious! And we have dined both inside and outside (in the shed), and both settings are super comfortable and have such a home-like feel to them. The servers have always been excellent as well. They check in often enough but don't overdo it, if you know what I mean. This last time on Thursday, we had the absolute pleasure of being attended to by Ramona. What a treat! She was so personable, accommodating, and attentive! She took our experience, which was already very enjoyable, to another level! And not every server is so receptive to waiting on a table with a one-year old! She interacted with him in such a warm and welcoming manner, and we were so appreciative. We love this restaurant and Ramona sealed the deal for us! We will be repeat customers for sure! read more

Table for 4 and a lovely evening with excellent food, good service and a welcoming atmosphere. The fresh fish was excellent as was the onion goat cheese tart. Recommend for a pleasant evening without breaking the bank. read more

Charming, low key, yummy French food, cozy atmosphere. Perfect place to have lunch between museums.

Had a very nice brunch here at this tiny but cute restaurant. The downside is, in such a tiny place, you're always going to be seated at table thats just a little too small to be comfortable, and the service tends to be hit and miss, but the food was delicious. Maybe I loved it so much cause I had just been taken for a very long walk all over the city and my paws were aching, but my french toast was heavenly, and served with fresh fruit and what seemed to be homemade whipped cream. The french vanilla ice cream with just a touch of hot fudge on top was a perfect end to a great lunch. read more

An absolutely outstanding dining experience in a sickeningly cute neighborhood. I went here with a local who had never been, and we might have found our favorite restaurant in this part of town. I had the filet au poivre, so tender I didn't need my steak knife; she had the duck in tamarind sauce, a preparation I'd never seen before and will seek out in the future. For the appetizer course, my yellowfin carpaccio was beautifully balanced with ginger seaweed. The chocolate souffle for desert was heavenly, and the atmosphere is cozy, warm, and inviting. I highly recommend Pascalou for anything from a romantic date to an evening with friends. And try the filet. read more

This longstanding Upper Madison Avenue bistro is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. It almost makes me feel that I don't have to fly to France to experience dining at a neighborhood Parisian bistro. It's so unaffected, so comfortable with itself, that you don't feel that this is an ersatz bistro. The chef is accommodating to any dietary requests and the wine list is sophisticated but reasonably priced. I've been stopping in here for decades and am glad it's kept true to its roots. I feel like I'm in Bordeaux when I eat here read more

A real gem. Our waiter Catalino guided us to a great experience. It was my second time at the place and I love it. From a peaky person, everything is great here. read more

Sunday brunch at Pascalou on the upper east side was unique, tasty and reasonably priced. I think my favorite part of our experience was where we sat in the tiny restaurant. In the main floor dining area (there's additional seating upstairs), there is a booth that is a few steps above all the others, with seats acing the front of the restaurant so you can see the other diners and have a nice view out the window over everyone's head. We had reservations (recommended, particularly for brunch) but I don't know if we lucked out with this table or it was specifically requested. The prix fixe brunch menu ($14.95) includes an entree, drink and dessert. It offers a good variety of standards like Eggs Benedict and omelets, as well as some more 'fusion' style offerings like the crab dumplings I ordered. The dumplings were Thai-style and served with a peanut sauce (which is why I ordered them in the first place). I was even provided chopsticks. The one-inch diameter dumplings were served in a bowl with plenty of the sauce (enough for me to spoon out extra sauce to enjoy on its own). The salad on the side (which came with each of our meals) was nice with mixed greens but was nothing special. Oddly they served what appeared to be Pringles chips as a garnish for the salad. Our dessert options were orange sorbet served in an orange peel and chocolate cake. I tried a bite of the cake, which seemed dry, but rich. The sorbet was definitely prepared well in advance, portioned into the orange peel and frozen, which made it hard to handle on the plate. I ended up eating it using a fork to hold the orange in place while I attempted spooning out the sorbet. Tasty, but a bit of a challenge to eat. Overall this was a great place to dine for a casual Sunday brunch. The service was friendly, the price was right, and the food was unique. read more

The customer service was hostile and cold. The place is dark and claustrophobic. Very tiny portion. Food just average. It was very bad experience. I will never go back for sure. read more

We were enjoying a lovely evening out last Thursday when suddenly we heard raised voices coming from the kitchen. We brushed it off at first not thinking much of it until we saw the staff come out looking rather upset. It was then, we saw some man rush out from behind a wall screaming and cussing (using the F word) about a dessert or something. My companion and I both looked at each other in shock thinking what in the world is wrong with this man? We were sitting right in front of the French doors and honestly could not believe what we had just witnessed. He looked right at us as well without even nodding as to apologize for this outburst. I flagged down one of the staff and asked who was that, to which he replied THE CHEF. I understand the concept of the eccentric chef, as I'm a fan of Gordon Ramsey, but this was just too much. It was very unprofessional on his part. While the staff was fantastic and attentive, the food was delicious, that experience was just too over the top. Giving only 3 stars because although the food was delicious and staff were amazing (deserving of 5 stars), the actions of the chef deserve only a 1 star. read more

On one Sunday morning, my boyfriend and I found ourselves on the Upper East Side, hungry and parched. After walking for a while, passing numerous packed brunch places, we stumbled on Pascalou, which was not too packed at all. My boyfriend went straight to the restroom, leaving me alone to look over the brunch menu. The prices were the first thing that stood out to me, which seemed a little pricey even for the UES. Since the waiter had already seated us and gave us water, we decided to stay. Given our fondness for day drinking, we chose the Brunch Prixe Fixe ($16.95), which consisted of an entree, dessert, and beverage of your choice (mimosas, of course). I ordered the mushroom and gruyere omelette, which had a subtle yet distinct hint of truffle oil (I wish there was more of it). My boyfriend ordered the crabmeat sandwich and soup, which was demolished in about 2 seconds so I can only assume it was good. Both dishes came with a generous portion of a simple salad, making the plate almost (emphasis on almost) feel complete. Overall, the meal was great (we even ordered 2 more mimosas), but the total price was really too much. The portions were not large, and we ended up making food as soon as we got home. The other diners were of a much older (and I mean, old enough to be friends with my grandparents) crowd, and the atmosphere seemed slightly pretentious. Not the place for me. read more

This was exactly the kind of lunch and service we were looking for and highly recommend. The food was amazing and delicious.

although the draft coming from the door that i was sitting right next to kept me chilly, as soon as the food came my heart warmed right up. it was SO GOOD. I believe scrumptious is the correct word. a tender swordfish steak with lentils and asparagus mmmm. yes its a small restaurant, and the waitstaff can be awkward, but that food overcomes it all. can someone explain how they manage to cook like ten different types of cuisine and get everyone of them right? and they have some pretty good baguette too. we will meet again, pascalou. read more

Honestly I don't see how anyone could give Pascalou a decent rating on Yelp. Total waste of money. I happen to be in the area and wanted to grab a quick dinner bite. Pascalou was right in front of me, so decided to pop in. I should have gone somewhere else...big mistake. Horrible wine list and catering hall quality food. All the guests were +65 years old. The only positive was the friendly host and average service. read more

My review is only for their brunch special. They have a price fix brunch for $15.95 that is excellent. I had the Grand Marnier French Toast and my girlfriend had the ratatouille omelet. Followed by coconut cake and baked apple crepe for desert. I agree with other reviews that the tables are close together, but its still functional. Our service was excellent. The food is very very good and quite fresh. The french toast was the perfect texture and came with assorted fruit. My GF loved the omelet which came with a mixed green salad. I didn't care for the coconut cake too much, I found it dry. But the baked apple crepe was excellent and was mixed in with a custard. Definitely going to come back again to try their other brunch special items. read more

A solid 4 stars!!! Dinner was great, I ate the Escargot and Chicken Milanese. The service is what kept me from offering 5 stars. Small intimate French restaurant with very good food. We had snails (sorry, escargot), iceberg wedge salad, sole almandine, scallops, and a great chocolate mousse. Right across from Islands on Madison. Only negative was an unfriendly waiter. Prices were reasonable, much less than S F. read more

I've been to Pascalou several times for dinner and it has been consistently good. The hilarious English gentlemen that seats always puts me in a good mood. I've sat both downstairs and upstairs, and both are cozy (or cramped, depending on your perspective) but I prefer upstairs unless you can get the outdoor seats. It's decorated with French-themed maps and such, and is not quite as stuffy or uppity as its neighbor Le Paris Bistrot. However, Le Paris probably gets the nod in terms of food, though both offer similar menu items. It's also not nearly as good as Table D'Hote down the street, but Pascalou is good for a lower-key, more relaxed dinner experience. One thing to keep in mind: the clientele is definitely older. Every time we've been, my girlfriend and I are the only ones under 50 there. It's not the liveliest place, but sometimes that's a good thing. They have a good variety of French dishes. I've had the cappellini and polenta with lamb bolognese and both were good, though a little too saucy. The service could use some improvement, and our sever has disappeared for long periods of time every time we've been there. However, it was never bad enough that I would consider not returning. As other reviewers noted, the prices are high. There are very few entrees under $20, so with a glass of wine each, you're probably looking at a dinner for 2 for around $70 without appetizers or desserts. read more

I had the $18 prix fixe brunch, which comes with a drink of your choice. I got the Grand Marnier french toast because I was really craving something sweet even though it technically isn't worth it as french toast is way cheaper than eggs benedict usually. The french toast was pretty good - nothing spectacular. I got a white sangria with it, which was also good, and the dessert of the day (strawberry shortcake) was delicious, even though I had something sweet already as my main meal. My main gripe is the price of the prix fixe - I would've liked to be just able to order the french toast a la carte. But I guess it's UES - things are slightly more expensive. Service is pretty good, the tables outside aren't as crowded and as dark as the ones inside, so definitely recommend sitting outside. read more

Love this place. Food consistently good, staff friendly. The only downside is that they only allow 1 credit card per table. Other than that, fabulous place. read more

My rating for this restaurant should ideally be 0 stars just based on service. Pascalou was suggested as a good brunch place by NY mag so I a couple of friends went there this Sunday. The maitre d' or manager was extremely rude and unfriendly and wouldn't give us a straight answer ... seemed like he did not like his job at all and wanted to just get over his shift as quick as possible. No wonder it had only 22 reviews on yelp ... with service like that I would never go back even if the food was awesome. We went to the Le Paris Bistro and the service was awesome and the staff extremely friendly and nice. Food was good too. The crepe suzette was awesome. read more

Pascalou is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. I love their prix-fixe menus for brunch and their twilight (early bird) dinner, and how this tiny restaurant has so many options on their menu. The food is authentic French fare, and they offer a surprising number of specials everyday--I have no idea how the kitchen is able to have such a long menu! In warm weather, they can seat a couple of 4-person tables outside, which can be nice, especially for weekend brunch. The service is great and quick. The only drawback at Pascalou is that the restaurant is a little cramped--but well worth the slight struggle of climbing into your seat. read more

I took the upstairs space to host a brunch for my family ( seating 12) to celebrate a graduation. Most of the people in my party were vegetarian/pescatarian/vegan. The owner crafted a brunch menu with so many wonderful choices for us, at the Sunday prixe-fixe. The food was out of sight. Although the upstairs space is narrow, it reminded us of a long-table holiday gathering. It was a lovely brunch celebration. read more

Great low-key French restaurant. Saturday brunch menu is quite extensive...one companion ordered scrambled eggs with sausage; I ordered crab omelet and sparkling sangria (choice of drinks included.) Sunday Brunch - Prix Fixe: White Sangria Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon Chocolate Mousse Grand Total: $16.95 + tax Conveniently located to where we were staying, Pascalou was a nice Sunday morning treat. The place is super tiny, but offered a couple tables outside for nice days. The food was pretty decent and I had no complaints. I think the thing that fascinated me most was the prix fixe price for brunch in the Upper East Side. What a steal! I liked it's quaint atmosphere and would definitely come back, but it's not something I will crave when I'm back in the city. Good eats for sure though! read more
