I had an issue with 3 of my apartment room doors. The door lock and strike plate would not meet, thus making it impossible to lock the door or let it stay closed. Steve from Pasadena Lock Shop was on time and fixed all the three doors in less than 5 minutes. He also was very particular to clean up after drilling the metal shavings off the carpet. I had originally scheduled for him to come out and rekey the deadbolt on my front door for 5:30pm but on accident, I locked myself out of my own bedroom. We have a Schlage Encore smart lock on our garage door that was installed less than a year go. Due to where the mortise was originally cut in the wood frame, the bolt would rub against the wood depending on the weather. Eventually, the bolt completely broke. We were unable to open the door as the bolt broke in the lock position. So, we found Steve on Yelp with these awesome reviews and contacted him. He responded almost immediately and after messaging back and forth about the problem, he came out to the house, diagnosed the problem and unlocked the door at no charge. He told us that if we could get a replacement part to let him know and he would come back out to install it or he could find us a replacement part himself and install. We contacted Schlage and they immediately sent out a replacement part under warranty. As soon as we got the part, he came out the same day, fixed the mortise, installed the new bolt, sent us videos that it worked perfectly (made some comment about our Teslas leaving dirty water stains on our garage floor.. and that he would take it up w the main man -EM- if that was truly the case.. hahaha) and we Venmo'd him his reasonable rate (other locksmiths were going to charge way more for just diagnostics) for his service! What was a relatively simple task of installing new locks on a house and garage and rekeying all of them to the same key, turned into an abandoned, half-finished job without any follow up from PLS regarding its completion. In retrospect, my crucial mistake in dealing with PLS was: (a) allowing PLS to special order a knob set when what I wanted (and thought I was getting) was readily available at Home Depot; and (b) putting too much faith in the vendor to handle their business while being distracted with mine. PLS is probably fine for making duplicate keys and what not, but I would strongly urge you to either provide your own parts when contracting them to do an installation or otherwise be prepared to stay on them like a vulture over roadkill. read more

Thank you Yelp! I was in the area and was looking for a place that could make a duplicate copy of my keys. I showed up at the Pasadena Lock Shop, which is a really tiny shop and easy to miss. It's located next to an auto body shop. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a gentleman who was really helpful. It costed $2.00 to duplicate each key. He was extremely fast, and he was able to duplicate 6 keys for me within 2 min. It took me longer to put the keys back into the key ring! I'm so glad that I found this local lock shop and will definitely be coming back to duplicate my keys and I love the fast service. Messed up scheduling system: they never reply to confirm your appointment, and then blame you for not receiving the voice mail they claim they left. Inconsistant service: One time they didn't charge extra for "special" keys, and everthing was standard; another time, they charge you or literally ask you to pick up the key from their store yourself, just because they happened to not have the key in their van and don't want to make the second trip. I pay you $$ service fee and you don't even deliver the key once you are done your service? There are many good rating lock shops in the area, go try some one else. read more

It is with a heavy heart that we post this. We live in a society where the quality of life is spiraling down. Yet the quality of our understanding and technology is rocketing skyward. Today we can buy a lockset at HomeDepot for the same price that Pasadena Lock Shop pays wholesale. It takes a sincere commitment to patronize small businesses in our community to keep the quality of life up--but it takes two. The other part of the that sincere commitment requires that, that small business MUST support it's clientele. After faithfully dealing with this business for forty years--yes, I bought my first key when I was 18--they can no longer be recommended. This business has a hard time keeping quality people. In our latest experience, a newly cut key did not work, the lock smith's solution was to manhandle the key with a pair of visegrips. When it was clear that all that was necessary was to alter the shoulder of the key about .010" . Additionally the brass key was clamped in a vise with teeth ruining the faces of the key. The smith was impatient, insecure and overly aggressive exactly the opposite of what you would expect in a smith. In all likely hood we will return to support the PLS, but if the same smith is there, we will leave a quickly as we came in. We are sorry. read more

I called to get my locks switched out and the job was done within the next few hours AND at a decent price. The specialist who came by was a taller guy (forgot his name) but he was very professional, polite, and also explained everything about locks/keys very well. The part that really convinced me about the Pasadena Lock Shop was the next day I realized one of my doors wasn't closing because the lock wasn't catching. When I called the shop about the issue, without questions they sent the same guy to get it fixed within the day.
