I have been wanting to try this place since it opened down the street from my favorite Bahn Mi joint in Brooklyn aka Ba Xuyen. Unfortunately, I was thoroughly disappointed with my dining experience.
We visited this place on Mother's day 2018 for brunch. We arrived at 2pm to a packed house. A table was just opening up as we arrived so we were seated, given menus and waters very quickly. I was like, "Ok so far, so good."
We ordered the sweet potato fries with sriracha mayonnaise to start. I had read in a few reviews that this is a must try item and it didn't disappoint. The sweet potato fries came out hot, crispy and quickly. The sriracha mayo had a nice heat, just enough spice that is non threatening to non spicy food lovers like my daughter and boyfriend. Unfortunately, that's where the good parts of this review ends.
We ordered iced tea and coffee. Nowhere on the menu does it mention that the iced tea is unsweetened and the waitress didnt warn us either when we ordered it. They then bring the hot coffee and we ask for cream and sugar, you know? The standard things one asks for when you order a coffee. The waitress points us to a DIY station at the counter with carafes of cream, milk, sugar packets and a squeeze bottle of simple syrup. So you're telling me that we now all have to get up to fix our drinks at the counter when you're our waitress?
I was willing to forgive such a minor inconvenience but then the debacle with our food orders began. We ordered an eggs Benedict, the fried chicken sandwich and the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. After 30min, our food still had not arrived and no remote update from the waitress as to why the food was so delayed. Finally, at the 40 minute mark, the other waiter comes over and says, "we ran out of English muffins, so you mind if the eggs Benedict is served on toast?" At this point, we are starving and we just want the food. We agree to toast. My boyfriend had drank all his coffee already but since no waitress had come to check on us, the cup stayed empty. He brought the cup up to the counter and asked for a refill. The guy at the counter says, "we have no free refills here. You have to pay $1 per refill."
I have never heard of no free coffee refills when you're at a brunch spot. It is absolutely preposterous, in my opinion. You'd figure that they'd at least give us the free refill considering we have been waiting for over 45 minutes for some simple dishes! I even had to bring up our water glasses to the counter to ask for water refills!
The food finally comes and it was underwhelming. My daughter's BEC was just ok. The bacon was a bit burnt. The eggs Benedict was bland and the home fries were tasteless. My fried chicken sandwich was good but it was cold by the time we got it. No wait staff even bothered to ask us how our food was. The only time we saw or spoke to her again was when she brought our check to the table.
I will never come here again because of the absolute crap service. It's a shame really. It's so close to me and I love to brunch. This could have been such a Go To joint but it turned into such a disappointing excursion. read more
