Not all I expected, per the raving of friends. I give it an A for rustic atmosphere and C+ for the breakfast. I had strawberry pancakes. They were flat and colored like the artificial frozen strawberries that come in a can. The maple syrup was okay, not deep flavored enough for my liking. I've actually had better breakfasts at Bickfords and Cracker Barrell. The dining experience in the rustic barn is what makes it. It is like being at a picnic, one of those places where the people from the surrounding tables start conversations with one another and seem truly happy to be enjoying a beautiful ride through the pines of Southern New Hampshire. After hearing about this place's near legendary status in the central Mass/So. NH breakfast hierarchy, I had huge expectations. In hindsight, that was probably why I left so nonplussed. Tucked away in a little pine covered patch, it's got a hidden gem vibe when you pull up. It's rustic and homey on the outside and the interior is much the same, as well as being spotlessly clean. I always appreciate that. The wall hangings are ultra non-offensive camp that are funny in ways that they have no intention being. I fully expected that "hang in there" cat poster to be present. Alas, the missing feline was but the beginning of my disappointment. I ordered the Parker's special. It's a lot of food - two eggs, ham hash, toast, home fries, 2 buttermilk pancakes and I added an OJ. The eggs were perfect, but sorry, they should be. The ham hash was ok, if unspectacular. They started losing me at the home fries. I just can't do fryolator home fries. You might as well serve french fries. I mean, why not? It's pretty much the same thing. Yeah they were crisp and hot........but come on. You lose creativity points if you're just throwing some spuds in a basket of hot oil. The pancakes also were not good. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like my pancakes crisp at the edge, tender and on the thinner side. These were puffy-ass things, and no, I don't mean fluffy. While not tough, they had a little bit of a skin on them and were not tender. That being said, the maple syrup was stellar. My server was very good and the staff seemed friendly. My total with tip was 20 bucks which is too much. It was a good breakfast. Surely not near the worst I've ever had. But when you couple the 35 minute drive, where I must've passed half a dozen better options, with the can't-believe-I-paid-twenty-bucks-for-breakfast-in-backwoods-NH sticker shock, it's just not worth it. read more

Parkers is an all time favorite of my family. I grew up in the area so i had friends and family that worked there so ive eaten at Parkers probably 50 times... Literally. I was lucky enough to spend my Evacuation Day holiday - smack dab in the middle of maple sugaring season - at Parker's Maple Barn, thanks to some direction from my yelp compadres. It was doubly good because Evacuation Day happened to fall midweek this year, so we didn't have to deal with the crowds that descend upon Parker's grounds on weekends and holidays. I called a couple of days in advance to ensure they would be offering tours of the sugar house, and they told me that the day's schedule included tours at 10 and 10:30 a.m. Since Google told me it would take about 90 minutes to get there from Boston, we left pretty early. But when we got there, it was clear that those times weren't accurate. Part of the reason was that there were field trips there, with lots of elementary-school kids, and they had arranged private tours. So we didn't get a tour until after 11, but it turned out ok, because we were only with a couple of other people, and for a part of the tour, no one else was with us, so we got to ask all the questions we wanted. The guy running the tour was also the guy in charge of making the syrup, so he knew basically everything anyone would ever want or need to know about maple syrup, its history, grading, and production. We really enjoyed talking to him. After the tour, we headed to the restaurant, where we pigged out on awesome New Hampshire breakfast fare. The drink menu was really limited, so that was kind of a bummer. I would have liked fresh iced tea, but that wasn't an option. And the lemonade was Minute Maid. Bleh. So I ended up with a root beer. I ordered the pancakes of the month - maple walnut - and a side of the maple cream, along with a side of homefries. The mister ordered eggs florentine. We got our little lady a junior omelette and toast, and our two other dining companions got eggs and sausage and blueberry pancakes, respectively. All of the food was good. The maple cream took the pancakes to a ridiculous, amazing, otherworldly level of deliciousness. I would have liked hot sauce for my home fries, but the waitress never checked on us once through our meal, so I didn't even get to ask if they had it. And the food was pretty expensive. But I won't complain about that because really, it was good. We hit up the gift shop post-lunch so we could grab some maple syrup and maple cream. They also had a wide selection of jams, soaps, candles, books, and other NH-made items. This was the perfect Evacuation Day. read more

You are given your own mini bottle of warm maple syrup to use on your pancakes. I ordered a side of bacon which was wonderful, as well. You are served a pot of coffee, which is refillable. This is a local tourist attraction as well as being a place well frequented by residents. The food is great and well priced; the gift shop has maple sugar treats as well as souvenirs. this place is a local favorite for hampsherites and located somewhere out in woods. driving up, you can see all the sap buckets collecting the goodies from the maple trees. the friendly staff gives visitors a tour of their barn and shows the process of making their syrup - the old fashion way. the rich, sweet aroma and rural surroundings provide a cool historical and cultural picture of good, ole' america. then, on to the food! everything was good, but if you're not used to eating heavy or sweet in the morning, you're going to shock your system...like i did. i may have gone a little freaky w/ the syrup. they have a hearty menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they close at 2pm on weekdays and 4pm on weekends. read more

"Worth every penny" says my girlfriend. Appetizers: we got the sampler. Maple donut holes, blueberry maple donut holes, and cinnamon rolls -- all amazing. The pancakes: huge, delicious, fluffy. The maple syrup: fantastic. The ham hash omelette: so good I would drive an hour to eat it... even if I were impatiently hungry. The ambience: rustic; what Cracker Barrel wants to be, but with a New Hampshire / north woods bent. The service: fast, attentive, pleasant. I have been going to Parker's Maple Barn on field trips since I was small. Now that I am older my wife and I make a yearly trek to Parker's sometime near the fall. The portions can be huge. If you do go you should have something with maple syrup on it. Its definitely a kitschy place but it is really fun to visit and often kids enjoy learning about maple syrup production, I know I did. I took away a star for 3 reasons: 1 you can not put your name in by phone and the wait can be hours, I am pretty sure they do this so you will go through the gift shop. The problem is that after about 30 min you can't stand looking at anything in the gift shop any more. 2 The wait staff are sometimes local kids who aren't always the most organized and can forget things about your order (RARELY!) 3 they are incredibly unaccommodating for those with allergies. I believe there official stance is something like they will make you something but it must be assumed that it could have your allergen in it. read more

All I can say is WOW! If you are looking for an amazing breakfast, in a rustic country setting, this is the place for you. My husband had the gingerbread pancakes and loved them. My son had the Belgian waffle. I can't believe he ate the whole thing! I had the eggs benny. SOme of the best I have ever had They are trying to conserve water since the drought, so they were using paper plates and cups. I saw on another review that someone was complaining about that. I say hooey to that. You're not going there for the dinnerware, you are going for the food. And in my family's opinion, the breakfast cannot be beat! read more

WARNING: Tourist trap ahead!! That's what the sign should say outside of Parker's Maple Barn. I'm writing this as a warning to everyone outside the area that has to drive too far and then wait in long lines just to experience overpriced, mediocre food. Any restaurant with a gift shop ought to be a clue that this place caters to tourists. I notice that most of the local reviewers say it's not very good. The reviews from people that are far away tend to be positive so it must be that when you've waited in line for two hours that just about any food tastes great. Going on a fun road trip makes you remember the experience and not necessarily the quality of the food. The problem is that this place used to be good years ago. Now they are just taking advantage of tourists. The size of the pancakes continues to shrink. The home fries are the frozen kind you microwave. The portion size is small and the prices are high. Good things about Parker's are the real maple syrup and the rustic decor. They also have a sugar shack on the premises. There are much better breakfast places in the area. Keep looking. read more

A great place for pancakes and real maple syrup, made on-site. Try the Parker's Special if you're *really* hungry, otherwise the Mini-Special is the way to go - and get it with the ham hash. It's a great place to take kids, lots of interesting things to see, especially in late winter/early spring when they are making syrup. The staff is friendly, and when it is cold outside, it is very cozy inside with all of the wood stoves going. Be sure to get some syrup and maple candy to take with you. Don't go on a weekend morning, unless you want to wait a looong time. And by the way, it is not on a dirt road, though it is the "boonies", and it's really not hard to find. The breakfasts are excellent, and they serve it all day. We've never been disappointed. We visit mid-morning, during the week, and we've always been seated immediately. I have seen it a zoo on the weekends, though, so plan accordingly. Except I think they may only have their divine donuts on the weekend (or maybe it's just during the cold seasons?). My favorite dish is the Eggs Irish, which substitutes grilled, homemade, corned beef hash for the traditional Canadian bacon. This hash is light and flavorful. The hollandaise sauce on the eggs is very good, and they do use butter in it, unlike some places that should be ashamed of themselves for using oil, believe it or not. All the flavors and textures in this dish work. The homefries are decadent, seasoned and crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. You must try them. The omelets are good, as is the French toast. We've tried the baked beans a few times, but just don't care for them, although they seem well made. The service is slow, although the food arrives hot and freshly prepared. This place always seem to need one more waitress. Maybe that's intentional, so that the servers will be so busy, their day will pass swiftly. read more

I have been going to Parker's Maple Barn since I was a child. It is a great place to bring a family, or just to go with friends. The gift shop is cute, the grounds are nice to walk around when weather permits, and the food is great! I stopped in this past Sunday, and everything was great, other than a rude front of the house manager, who walked away dismissively when I was in the middle of speaking with him. The bacon and sausage were great. Home-fries were ok but I'm not a home-fry kind of girl anyways. Parker's is a fun place to visit. We went in March, during the peak maple season. The wait was VERY LONG to get a table. In fact, I was getting lightheaded from waiting so long, but luckily on the grounds there was a stand with maple doughnuts. And the maple doughnuts were quite good! The food was fine (not wonderful, but fine) but the syrup is what makes the pancakes great. The pancakes are a little spongy for my liking. You can also tour where they make the syrup and they have a nice gift shop. The ambiance in the restaurant is nice. It's like a rustic cabin. Cozy. It's not necessarily worth the lengthy wait if you go there for repeat visits, but it's a great place to bring some out-of-towners at the end of winter. The stuffed French toast is simply the most gratifying breakfast item I have ever eaten, anywhere, ever. I don't even live on that side of the country anymore and I still think about it. I ordered the Mini Parker's Special and it was plenty enough food. I didn't like the hash browns but the ham hash was really good and mixed well with the scrambled egg. Their homemade maple syrup is really great but the pancake wasn't anything special. But I did get a side order slice of the deep fried French toast... just say to I tried it...and boy was I really glad I did. I'd definitely recommend ordering 1 slice of it and next time I'd probably just get that instead of the pancake with the special.
