Review of bar service (or lack there of): Went on a Friday night with several friends to have a drink at the bar at around 9:45pm. There were maybe 8 to 10 people total at the bar. The service: I've literally never encountered a more rude and uninterested bartender (young/taller girl) ......ever. She never even cracked a smile and it seemed as if she hated everyone in there. I ordered a glass of wine, my friends had mixed drinks. The mixed drinks, according to them, were horrible. I knew my friend who wasn't drinking her's wouldn't say anything, so I politely told the bartender that my friend wasn't drinking her's because she didn't like it. Her response, "what about it does she not like?!". Not, "I'm sorry, can i make something else.". I told her I didn't know, but that she could ask her when she got back from the restroom. The bartender rudley turned around and walked off saying that "she didn't need to know.". Super rude! We then tried to order 4 more drinks and she ignored us at first, pretending not to hear my friend who was sitting see directly In front of the register she was at. I've never seen anything like it!! I had been nice to her from the beginning, thinking that maybe she'd had a bad night (still no excuse). Finally, we get our bill and my friend was charged the drink that she didn't even drink and when I asked about it, her response was, "all alcohol sales are final.". Cool.... but that would have been something you'd say when I first told her the drink wasn't good..... super unprofessional. After paying, as we were leaving my friend was nicely trying to explain why she didn't like the drink and I just said, "she doesn't care.". The bartender said, "no, I didn't say that." Frankly, she didn't need to.... her whole attitude was, "I don't care.". I should've complained to management, but I have a feeling someone else will. She was awful. read more

We haven't had any Cajun cooking in a long while, so we were excited when our LaQuinta receptionist recommended this restaurant. Lori, our MI waitress was great! All her recommendations were spot on! Their corn bites, fried green tomatoes, veggie gumbo, and shrimp and grits were all delightful!!! A wonderful musician was serenading us with an interesting mix of genre. Well, popped in after finding out another restaurant was not open that evening and I must say I was not disappointed. Upon walking in you realize it's a extremely laid back, no dress slacks needed here. I sat at the bar and started with a hurricane. Not bad, but didn't pack the punch as others Louisiana themed restaurants I've been to. For my meal I decided to go with the shrimp and grits. Not bad, not bad at all. The portion was just right for me and grits left over. I would have liked a few more shrimp, but the sausage was tasty as well. At first it was a bit salty but once the beer broth mixed with the grits it mellowed out. I finished up with a bourbon barrel ale, and yummm. Overall, not bad. I'd go back :) read more

We've tried this place twice before and we're not pleased with the food, prices, or service. However, since it had been over a year, we decided to try again. Mistake! We put our name on a wait list and were told it would be 40 minutes. After 40 minutes we were told it would be 20 more. After 20 more, we were told the same thing. In the mean time we made friends with the people next to us at the bar. One of them went to the restroom and overheard an employee say the kitchen only had one burner operating. Why didn't they just tell us that to begin with? Why would anyone treat a customer that way? We paid our bar tab and walked out. We won't be giving Parish another chance. read more

I am a hug fan of dip of any kind, however, the seafood dip did not satisfy my taste buds. It could've had a little more seasoning and something else (I'm not sure what that something is). The drink was also just okay. Despite the food, the service at the bar was wonderful! No. Just No. Unless you want to experience an adventure in subpar service and food that tastes only marginally better than that from the frozen food section of your local market, avoid this place at all costs. Our one dining experience was so horrific, that we tell the story to this day. It was so bad, it was laughable. We went before the dinner rush and were seated promptly; however, it took 17 minutes and two trips to the host stand before anyone came to take our drink order. Additionally, when we were seated they forgot to give us menus. It took 25 minutes to get drinks. Still no menus. Once we finally got menus, in addition to our meal I also ordered an appetizer and my husband got gumbo. Only, when they brought the food, they brought my husband jambalaya, NOT gumbo. When we pointed this out to the server, she argued with us and said it was gumbo. When we showed her the menu description, she still insisted it was gumbo. We finally asked to speak to the manager. When he came to the table we asked him what the dish was. He said Jambalaya. By the time we finally got the gumbo, we had been in the restaurant for an hour and fifteen minutes. There was one other table in our section. They eventually left, having been served neither food nor drinks. With the gumbo, the roux was overly salty and the rice was crunchy. We never got refills on the drinks. After finishing our appetizers, we waited another 15 minutes (total time in restaurant: 2 hours 10 minutes) before we left enough cash on the table to cover the drinks and appetizers and left. Not surprisingly, there were no employees to be seen to explain that we were leaving. We then walked across the street to the Rookery, where we were seated next to the OTHER couple who had left before us. We had a good laugh and commiserated over the terrible service. read more

Hit this spot up on down town Macon because I am Making my way to all the establishments in the area slowly but surely! So on this day I had the frog legs, seafood dip, fried oyster basket with fries, Classic Beignets, and a drink called "A reason to live". The seafood dip was AMAZING! Definitely a great starter. The frog legs were seasoned well and cook perfectly not too tough because it's easy to over cook frog legs. My oyster basket was great no complaints at all! And the Beignets came with a butter sauce and powdered sugar! Best thing ever! My friends had the crab boil, and shrimp poboy. We loved all the food and the service was great (except one random waitress who came over and interjected on our conversation...) one thing my friend pointed out was that on the drink menu there is a drink call "Quita's Koolaid" and she wasn't happy with the name of the drink hats all I'm going to say on that part. For the day after Christmas, it was pretty quiet in Parish. But I was so glad we had the joint to ourselves! Location: Downtown Macon area where parking can be an issue, but I was able to find a spot right in front of the place. Service: From the moment we walked in, great service. Our waiter was Adam and he really hooked us up. His drink suggestions were awesome and he did a great job making sure our party of 3 was taken care of. The bartender was also just as nice! Food: Effin yum!!!!! The Blue Bayou was the cocktail we all selected and it was made quick and tasted so good. For appetizers, we selected the Macon bacon, Gator bites and the Seafood dip. I wanna live in the dip! But the other ones were tasty too. For the dinner, the dishes were Shrimp and Grits, Seafood pasta and the Shrimp Etouffee. Good good good!!! Unfortunately, this was the worst seafood I've ever eaten... I never thought gumbo could be bad, but it was and the sausage tasted old. The best thing I ate were the fries. Even the fried foods wasn't the best quality and not seasoned. We tried the gator and crab cakes, and again no flavor. I understand why they say, "All drinks purchases are final", because the lemons in my drink tasted sour. I don't think place focus is quality. Stopped in the mid-sized town of Macon, GA for lunch while in route from Atlanta to Hilton Head Island, SC. On a whim, backed up by a few Yelp reviews, we stopped into Parish, a down-home Louisiana Kitchen for some true Southern fare and got exactly exactly what we bargained for. Our server, a born 'n bred Maconian, took us through their menu and highly recommended the house specialty...a Bowl of Shrimp & Grits. It's official I want my last meal on this earth to come from Parish on Cherry! Found this place on a unscheduled stop in Macon GA. It had decent reviews and then I saw Shrimp n Grits and welp sold. I was traveling with my pup Fudge so I don't know what the inside looks like. Luckily it was a beautiful sunny day and I sat outside. They have ample outside seating both on the sidewalk and under what I'll call an awning. I sat under the awning. It's super laid back the host and a waitress were polite and I seated myself accordingly. Then my waiter came out and he was great - I will say he didn't ask if I wanted anything else and that's always a miss for me - since he asked if I was done and then if I'd like my check I didn't try the beignets both our losses. On to the amazing! It was Saturday and they have a great brunch menu (see pics). I started with an adult beverage - She Loves It - and I absolutely did! Refreshing tasty and fresh! I got an appetizer - the Macon Bacon - GET IT! Go there and order 1 per person because you will not share! It comes with a peach pepper jam which was ok (I don't mess with peaches since peach bellinis did me in but I digress). GO HERE AND GET THIS DISH! Last but not least (the beignets should've been last but I'm not bitter nope not me) Shrimp & Sausage n Grits (cream cheese grits are you drooling yet you should be). Delicious creamy stone cut grits, seasoned perfectly and cooked perfectly shrimp, small cuts of delicious sausage with a tomato something on top served with two pieces of soft bread to scoop up the well balanced liquid that surrounds the entire dish. It's presented beautifully, large portion and taste impeccable. I'll tell you how you know this dish was just the absolute bomb - I didn't eat the bread I ALWAYS eat the bread. All in all I would absolutely make another pit stop in Macon GA simply to eat at Parish on Cherry (and hopefully order some dessert)! read more

In Macon for the week looking for a decent bite to eat. First it's Macon 99% of all restaurants close at 930? Not 9 or 10 but 9:30. Which luckily for me lead me to find this hidden gem. I could hear the guest having a good time from down the street and thought yes the entire town does not go to bed after Andy Griffith. The place was small but had great atmosphere and friendly staff. Misty the bartender makes a Perfect old fashioned repeatedly and the grouper was also cooked to perfection and I arrived 20 minutes before closing. I want to go to other local favorites but I am sure I will eat here again on this trip. If your passing through feel real good if Parish On Cherry is open. read more

Parish on Cherry is such a vibe. The place looks so quaint and relaxing. I went on a Sunday morning (this was my first time having brunch) Paris on cherry did not disappoint. I had the fried green tomatoes to start and they were a little to tangy for me, like you could taste the apple cider vinegar a bit too much but still it was really good and the house sauce paired perfectly with it. I also had fried grits and cream cheese with blackened chicken(completely forgot what it was called) and that was delicious 10/10. The French toast was Exquisite, I really wish I could make my own like that. If you come here you HAVE TO GET THE FRENCH TOAST. Customer Service: 5 stars: the african american young lady with red locks, gave exceptional service and good recommendations. She kept our drinks refilled immediately, made sure we had all the condiments we needed, she was very accomodating to the children in our party, etc etc she was great. Food: 2.5 stars: its NOLA type cuisine. After actually Eating in NOLA that has set the bar extremely high for restaurants serving NOLA cuisine. The gumbo lacked depth, flavor, and heat. Once mother asked for additional red pepper and we added a bit of salt it gave it some life but not much. The rice in the gumbo was undercooked. The fried gator was good but for $9.90 they did skimp on the portion size. Pappadeaux in atlanta gives much more. Hell even in NOLA they give you more. The buffalo salad was decent. The french dip with roast beef was underwhelming, the dip sauce was bland. The sandwich was barely warm. The potato thingies that came with it were bland, dry, and damn near room temperature. The fried cheese curds wouldve been better with marinara vs ranch sauce, had we known that from jump we wouldnt have ordered them. They were also a tad above being lukewarm. The fried pickles couldve been better and came out barely hot the kids menu was boring. I guess if you live in Macon you dont have much of a food selection so you take what you can get, thats why these reviews are rated so high. The bread pudding was like eating a dried out cinnamon roll. The food has potential but it fell flat on our visit 4/20/19 around 545pm to the point if we were in town again, we wouldnt come back. Cleanliness: 3.5 stars: the restrooms were clean, the restaurant was tidy, docked 1.5 stars because i didnt like how the sweet tea pitchers were exposed. No lids, people contstantly walking past them to get to the restroom, coughing, sneezing, etc. That was a huge turn off so we all ordered coke. Price point: 3 stars: it was fair for some of the items and too much for others cosidering the portion sizes. Overall: we came because we liked the yelp reviews, it was walking distance to the tubman museum so we didnt have to lose our parking space, we all wanted to like this place but we just couldnt. Especially with us all have traveled to NOLA including the children in our party. We know how NOLA should taste and this was not it. We chose Parish this year as the location for my annual Birthday dinner and were very pleased. We started with the Fried Cheese Planks and Nola Seafood dip for appetizers and both were good. The fried cheese "planks" were really just your standard cheesesticks served with a pepper ranch instead of Marinara. The seafood dip was very tasty but could have used a bit more seasoning and a few more pieces of the lump crawfish, shrimp, etc. Also, it tends to sink to the bottom so make sure you scoop deep for the best bite. The chips were good, but a bit too sturdy and, although well seasoned didn't have the flavorful pop we were expecting. Still, neither were bad in any respect. I decided on the fried shrimp 'Po Boy and was not dissapointed. Everything on the sandwich was portioned well and to my liking. The remoulade was flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The 'Po Boys are available grilled or fried with your choice of Shrimp, chicken, oysters or grouper. Since a couple of us had them with our meals I will take a moment to praise the fries at Parish. The fries are a newer kind I have seen recently that are a hybrid of Steak fries and curly fries. Called 'Crescent' on the Parish menu and sometimes referred to as 'Sidewinder' fries, they were simply phenomenal. If you get a side of ranch or honey mustard to dip them in it is the perfect balance if you need a break from the spice of the remoulade. They tasted fresh and crisp on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. If your meal doesn't come with then, I highly recommend just getting an order for the table to share. Another in our party had the Shrimp and Crawfish pasta whish was also very delicious. Both shrimp and crawfish were well cooked and not rubbery. The pasta was a little soft but not unforgivably so. The sauce was tasty and well seasoned also. Another had the Shrimp and grits which were some of the best I have tasted. Grits were hearty and stoned ground. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the roux was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Another member had a burger which was very good. Served on a Brioche bun with a thick ground beef patty. My child had the kids chicken tenders and fries which he devoured quite quickly and looked to be the same kind you would get if you ordered an adult platter and not the cheap substitutes some restaurants use. For dessert we decided to try the chocolate filled biegnets which were rich and delicious. Worthy of breaking or cheating on any diet or to compliment a last meal. The chocolate on the inside was sweet and smooth. Not a chocolate sauce or syrup, but a finer chocolate I've tasted in fresh baked bakery pastries. There were 3 large Beignets on the plate and they were covered in a generous amount of powdered sugar. In closing, the portion size of all the meals was generous and our server was attentive and very friendly. We left quite satisfied and can't wait to return again. read more

Was traveling through Macon and chose this restaurant through Yelp. I love Cajun food. The menu covered just about any Cajun dish. We stopped on Sunday, there was a brunch menu. Included was all you drink Mimosas for $12 and a Bloody Mary bar where you added Whatever condiments to your Bloody Mary. It was really cool. I opted for a Mimosa but not of the "all you can drink" variety. I ordered a fried oyster po' boy with cheese grits. I also ordered a cup of cream of crab soup. The bread on the sandwich was very fresh, the oysters were fried to perfection, and the roumalade sauce was great. The cream cheese in the grits made them very tasty. The crab soup was so crabby but was just a tad too salty for my taste. It was still delicious. There was a man playing guitar and singing during brunch, the wait staff was attentive and the restaurant is really warm and inviting. Certainly worth a trip to downtown Macon. read more
