I've eaten here several times, and one thing is always the same, it's busy. That probably says a lot about the times we are living in. With the cost of groceries, gas, and dining out continuing to climb, people are looking for a place where they can get a good meal without spending a fortune. This place fits the bill. If you come before 4:00 p.m. on a weekday, lunch is around $15. That's about what you'd spend on a burger, fries, and a drink at some fast-food chains these days, except here you get an entire buffet with plenty of choices. The salad bar is well stocked and includes fresh fruit. They also have sushi rolls and nigiri. Is it sushi restaurant quality? No. But considering that one specialty roll at a sushi restaurant can cost $12-$16 by itself, it's a nice bonus. My favorite item is fried chicken. It's crispy, flavorful, and consistently juicy. I would gladly pay the lunch price just for the chicken. They also serve a very good pot roast, meaty pork ribs, and on Fridays they have a surprisingly good rib roast. Those are just a few of the highlights because there are plenty of other dishes to choose from. As for the staff, most of the employees appear to be young and may be working their first job. The cooks aren't trying to be gourmet chefs, they focus on preparing the buffet items well, and overall, they do a good job keeping the food coming despite how busy the restaurant gets. If you're looking for a fine dining experience prepared by professionally trained chefs, this probably isn't the place for you. But if your goal is to enjoy a wide variety of good food at a price that's hard to beat in today's economy, this buffet is definitely worth a visit. Very large buffet. Lots of parking in the shopping center. Located right off the 60 Freeway at Garfield. This place was busy with many parties of varying sizes. We did have to wait in line before getting seated. The wait wasn't too long for our party of 7 as it took maybe 15 min or so. The food was okay. It's what you would expect from an AYCE buffet like this. It's maybe on par with the likes of Golden Corral or Hometown Buffet (from back in the day). The highlight things to eat may be the made-to-order Mongolian BBQ where you load up your bowl with veggies, protein (chicken, pork, shrimp, beef, etc), noodles, and seasonings. Hand it over to the staff cook and they hand you a pager to notify you when done. The other food highlight may be the Japanese sushi area. While not the highest quality of ingredients, it was still decent for the price of the buffet and the fact that there's a staff member making the sushi rolls consistently rather than just leaving a bunch out in a tray to get old and dry. Definitely might be an even better deal as a lunch AYCE option. But for dinner it's still nice to go to. read more

I couldn't give them a 1 star since they were cheaply priced (their selling point I assume). The food in general was not great, usually at the buffet there is something worth getting, I tried almost everything and nothing was slapping. The Mongolian grill was missing some vital sauces and there is no consistent person working the grill. I had to wait about 15mins before someone showed up, I guess you get what you pay for. The other items weren't balanced well, either too salty or a bit too much cream cheese. They are doing the right buffet tactics to get you full, but at least make the food tasty ish? They did a good job with their fruits, but I don't come to a buffet for fruit. Either way, I went here thinking if it's better rated then Shiki and cheaper, they must be good (not really, I guess this place caters to the locals maybe). Shiki was rated about a 3.5 while this was a 4.0, don't let ratings fool you! SOLID generic Chinese buffet. You're not here for luxury, but it's definitely top tier in comparison to a lot of the other buffets out there. And you can't beat the $18/per person for lunch (according to my coworker). Plenty of parking in the plaza since it's quite a large one, but it can get busy during the lunch and dinner rush, and because it shares the plaza with a Smart and Final, Denny's and other eateries and businesses. It was pretty busy during a Thursday, even earlier than the regular lunch rush and it got busier the more time that elapsed but we were able to get 2 tables next to each other for a party of around 9 people. You check out at the start and you get handed any cups for beverages and then you can go to town at the buffet. They play pop song hits on throughout, the staff get together to sing "Happy Birthday" to whoever's birthday it is, they keep everything stocked pretty well and very clean in comparison to many other places I'm wary about, and the ambiance is lively and bustling. Standard buffet fare with fried foods, salad, desserts, some sushi (really good fish to rice ratio so you don't get full, which I like), grilled foods, desserts, soft serve machine and much more. They have a Mongolian BBQ station where you can build your own bowl, they give you a buzzer, and you come back to pick up your grilled dish. You can put as many or as little as you want in the bowl, thus maximizing your buffet intake. Pretty interesting sauces. I have never seen Sherry Wine before being offered, which is neat. The meat ended up being too dry for my tastes and overall a bit too salty but that might have been my mistake for choosing the sauces and seasoning for my bowl. Other than that, I really liked the banana pudding, the whipped cheesecake that went great with my serving of vanilla soft serve, the baby corn, orange chicken, sushi, baked fish, and the other simple and easy to eat dishes like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, etc. Not bad! read more

Reminds me of a slightly better and larger Hometown Buffet before they closed. The place is large, with a lot of seating and strong AC! The food is decent enough, never really good but good for $25/per adult with a drink. Theres a lot of options as well. Didn't get to try the Mongolian bbq as I was too full by then. Went here for lunch on a Saturday with my wife and kid. The line was long but moving it took 25 min to get seated. They had good selections and the quality is not bad some good. Great dessert selections too! The only bad Thing would be the sushi the staff doesn't know how to cut raw fish and the rice isn't cooked well. Birthday person eats free on their birthday (exact day only, ID required) and seniors get a discount. Opening in 1998, Paradise Chinese Buffet in Montebello is the original of the four Paradise brands in the LA area. This location was recently named one of three LA area buffets in the top 150 in the country, based on Google reviews. I've been to a lot of buffets (Chinese and otherwise), and this was near the top, especially based on the price. We came about 30 minutes after its 11 am opening, and the place was already packed with a line waiting to get in. You pay first, getting water and soda cups at checkout (plates are plentiful near the buffet itself). Emmelyn was the check-in associate, and she was joyful and friendly, putting a smile on my wife's face after a stressful drive through LA traffic. We found out that my wife's lunch was free because it was her birthday. Lunch pricing is $15.19 (M-F), minus $1 for seniors and military. Refillable soda is $2.99. It's find your own seating, and we grabbed the first seats we could find. -- being super crowded meant the food was constantly being replenished and kept fresh. It also meant a lot of line (inadvertent) line cutting and careful, slow movements...need to be careful for sure. -- the taste of the food was good, mainly because most things were turning over quickly. However, the selection of dishes wasn't huge, and the soups didn't look too good. -- I focused on the sushi and was satisfied. They had different type simple rolls and nigiri, with soy sauce at each table. They also had a bottle of eel sauce to douse your rolls with more, if you want. Towards the end, discovered a New Zealand green mussel dish in a hot chili sauce, which I took full advantage of. -- the must get is the Mongolian Grill, which dominates the center of the restaurant. There were three types of sliced frozen meat (beef, chicken, pork), a variety of vegetables (including my favorite, baby corn), and various runny sauces that you pour on top when done. Once your bowl is complete, you need to give it to the operator. But here its a bit different: it operates on a unique system that I've only seen here. In the front counter, there are 20 spots where numbered pager sits. Once a person fills up a bowl with raw ingredients, they place it on the next available pager spot, taking the pager with them. Once the food is cooked, the pager goes off. You then exchange the bowl in your spot, with the pager...and the cycle continues. I asked myself what would happen if all 20 pagers were taken, and decided if that happened, you would have to wait since there would be no more space on the grill for your plate anyway. The system worked really well, with all three of us taking advantage of it. Taste wise, I've had better but certainly not for that price. And I just love the efficiency of it all. -- soft serve ice cream was available, and it was very thick and creamy (though a bit off in taste). My wife also mentioned that you can get cotton candy as well. -- Service was good, with an employee in a hostess outfit personally letting us know that she was there to assist us, including getting drinks. She did clear dishes when necessary, but also seemed to be supervising our section. What's interesting is that the same report mentioned King Buffet in Garden Grove, which now seems to be another branch of the Paradise chain. So need to be leery of such reports not being current...but in this case, following its suggestion paid off. read more

I really wanted to try this place, and hubby and I were in the area so it was the perfect time. We had the senior lunch at 1 pm plus a drink which came out to $37 which was a steal. The service was friendly and I liked the tall ceiling and air conditioning. The food was meh. To be honest I should have tried the Mongolian bbq but I just chose from the hot menu. The chow mein noodles were over cooked and the egg roll had a weird flavor. I liked the fried chicken and baked chicken wings. The hot & sour soup was not good. The dessert was not bad . I learned the hard way that the hype is due to the lower price point. The quality is not high. We left feeling disappointed -- nothing was tasty. We came for the sushi. There were very few nigiri varieties. As depicted, the tuna and salmon were always out. The sushi rolls offered had little fish. Not assembled by a chef. I make better looking and better tasting rolls at home. My boys were so frustrated. The next thing we wanted to try was the Mongolian bbq as not all buffets have a station like this. It was disgusting. Everything tasted burnt from all the brown on the surface. This lady was so far behind, she not only did not clean the grill, she started putting the plastic bowls DIRECTLY ON THE HOT GRILL SURFACE. It was a long wait to get cooked food. We took one bite and had to toss the whole thing. This lady also did not add any broth to the bowls. If you've been to real Mongolian BBQ place, the chef helps each order get a nice flavor with added broths and monitoring what needs what to cook properly. The food we got here was a mess of burn and unflavored bleh. Remember the plastic bowls on the grill... Carcinogenic... I'm Chinese and the Chinese food was BAD. The beef and broccoli - the people cooking the beef did not drain the beef fat. So greasy and heavy. I again must assume they are not hiring chefs. Who makes this kind of rookie mistake batch after batch? Is there no manager supervising the quality of the food? The shrimp here mostly came from a frozen bag. There were whole shell on shrimp that was so overcooked that they stuck to the shell. I joked that this was purposeful to slow people down. Dessert bar was tasteless. I ran out of things to try. Disappointing to not have found even one thing to enjoy. I think the root of the problem are the bus boys or girls manning stations where a cook should have been. There was a long line to get in. Our first time going to the Paradise Buffet in Montebello, and it's been on my bookmark for a while. We were craving for AYCE buffet today, so we decided to try this place. Their price is very reasonable and affordable. Adult price $20.69 (same price for the whole day on Sunday), and senior price $19.69. We got there around 1:20 p.m. today, and we lined up for less than 10 minutes, then the server took us to a table to be seated. They have many different varieties of food, including Japanese (sushi), Chinese hot food, Mongolian BBQ, American food, and desserts. But don't expect that they have much seafood. (only shrimps, crabs & mussels, but NO clams, Oysters, or King Crab legs because you paid only $20.69.) The sushi quality was decent, they were fresh, but the sushi rice was not soft enough, and they were kinda dry. We liked that they had different sushi rolls, but without sashimi. For the Chinese hot food, the quality was mediocre. Some flavors were a bit salty. However, we liked the pork ribs, the mushrooms were very delicious and flavorful, and some noodles. The soups were okay. I had the clam chowder. We liked the Mongolian BBQ section because they had a lot of ingredients for you to choose from, and the section was big. It's different than other AYCE places, just providing a small section. We also liked that they gave you a number with a pager and let you know when your order is ready, then you go pick up. Whether you have a large party or eating by yourself Paradise Buffet will be a great experience. My friend made a reservation for SEVENTY family members for lunch after her Mom's funeral. Paradise checked everyone in as we arrived. They had no problem accommodating our large party. Paradise was so large that we had our own space and did not bother the other diners. Their staff could not have been better. They were quick to clear our tables. Everything we ate was tasty. I cannot say enough good things about the selection, quality and how delicious the food was. I went here a few years ago with some friends and the experience stuck with me throughout all these yeasts. After coming back recently, it's good to see that it hasn't changed. The food is plentiful, fresh and no doubt delicious, but focuses more on Asian-focused meals, so don't expect a massive variety from your typical buffets. This place used to be decent but it sucks now, everything lacks flavor and they no longer have Meatloaf which what I came for. No Prime rib today. They had some pork ribs with nearly zero BBQ sauce. The Fantail fried shrimp had no flavor, the string beans and broccoli were under cooked and hard. The sushi, chicken wings was tasteless about the only thing that actually had flavor was the wasabi and hot and sour soup. I bought a soda for my daughter the Sprite Zero came out as carbonated water. Someone was told but nothing was done about it. The staff was friendly and cleared out plates fast. Even though it was quite a drive for me to get there, overall I really enjoyed it. We were meeting here to celebrate my friend's mother birthday. It's located in a large plaza with multiple businesses around, so parking near the front of the buffet, it's a hit or miss. I was able to find parking fairly quickly. As you walk into the buffet, it's a single line to pay. After that, we were greeted by a host which directed us to where our party was located. As for the food: 1) the sushi was great compared to some other buffets that I have visited in the past. They have a machine that creates the blocks of rice for sushi making. 2) the Mongolian grill is available for those who would like some. 3) Dessert area is nice and clean at all times. Came here for dinner about a month ago! This new buffet replaced the classic Hometown Buffet over here. I'd say for the price ($22.31 per person) it's pretty affordable for a buffet these days but I'd much rather go to other slightly more expensive ones for better food options. I appreciate the Hibachi grill station + bbq meats cuts, and the lightly cut sushi (wish there was more bigger cuts!). If you're really hungry and in the area this is a good place to go without breaking the bank. But if you have time and don't mind spending an extra $10 I'd consider somewhere else like Golden Hibachi Buffet in Alhambra. This is a very affordable buffet with a large selection of various cuisines. The place is really clean with a lot of staff constantly cleaning and changing out utensils. They have a large Mongolian hot plate where you can pick out your choice of food and have them cook it. Make sure you add enough sauces because the flavor controlled by yourself. They also have a large sushi roll and nigiri selection. Of course you cannot compare to top tier sushi restaurant, but if you just wanted some rolls, I think it is very sufficient. The only service we received was when our plates were cleared one time during the 90 minutes that we were there. Food variety was limited and most items' quality ranged from bland to overcooked. Mongolian BBQ station had questionable food safety concerns with the raw chicken swimming in a mixture of melted ice and chicken blood. Pleasantly surprised that I didn't get food poisoning from any of the food I ate there. Their pricing is very budget oriented. Optimal seating can be a little hard to find. Our server was very nice, providing good service, offering to fill up our cups and cleaning up plates. The dishes can be a hit or miss. I recommend trying the sushi because there is a wide variety including salmon and tuna options. Good value for weekday lunch. My favorite item here is the roast beef. Get the middle pieces. They're so tender and juicy. I also like the mocha tiramisu. Everything else is average. One of the worst "Chinese" buffets if you can even call it that. Do yourself a favor and go to Umi or shiki seafood buffet for real Asian buffet. Garbage not even worth eating. read more
