The wine here is delightful. The vineyard itself is not especially beautiful, particularly from our vantage point. That said, we had a special tasting scheduled as part of Alluvium Wine Tour and it was wonderful. It was hot outside, so we sat inside a room, like a barn actually, with the doors open. Inside were large stainless steel wine tanks. I noticed the temperature gauges on the tanks didn't seem to be favorable for wine and our host confirmed they were currently empty. We fully enjoyed out tasting and left with a three-pack of wine, all bottles signed. That sounds very special, but we didn't keep the bottles, so I'm not sure of the point... unless we should have kept them. If so, it's wine under the bridge. The owner happened to stop in during our tasting. Nice enough guy, but he was not there to chit chat. Still, it was kinda cool. I recommend stopping at Paradigm Winery for a tasting. read more

I came to Paradigm on my last day. I had not heard of this winery before, but it was recommended to me. I called and made a reservation. Make sure to make a reservation! I did not realize that they only do 1 tasting at a time. When I came in, Michaela greeted me and gave a quick tour (her dog also greeted me, so cute!!!) of the winery and then the tasting began. They have a picnic table outside with all the tasting set up. I LOVE the intimate setting. I tried a couple of different tastings and also fell in love with the wine. Even though I had initially said no to joining any wine clubs, I ended up joining. LOL. The wines were decently priced and I really enjoyed how they tasted. Definitely looking forward to my first shipment of wines. Couple of other highlights, out of all the wineries I went to in Napa, Paradigm were the only ones that waived the tasting. If you buy 3 bottles (anything but the rose), they will waive a tasting. Also, the owner came out to chit chat a little when we were there. In visiting Napa and Sonoma for years upon years, and having visited countless wineries, some with authenticity and some built for Instagram posts, or UGC as those in the marketing departments like to call it, Paradigm stands out as a place with true history, passion, experience, legacy, and quality. We pre-booked our tasting for a Sunday late-afternoon, and were greeted by Greg, the brother-in-law of the owners, Ren and Marilyn Harris. Greg was jovial, relaxed, and super-knowledgeable not only about the Paradigm wines (which were *spectacular*), but also about the history of the Valley, its producers, trends of Merlot post-Sideways, and the heritage that can be found in Napa if you look hard enough. The seating area is lovely, and secluded, and feels like you are at your smart friend's house after a long day, enjoying something fantastic under the pergola with blooming strawberry trees and nesting house finches. Marilyn and Ren made an appearance, too, and I was totally smitten with the hostess; so elegant, so charming and sweet! Loved every minute of it. read more

I've had many tastings with Ren (the owner), his brother, and a couple of their staff members - all have been very friendly and welcoming. Although we had an appointment for this visit, several of us stood, almost uncomfortably, in a small tasting room. The person assigned to us was nonchalant, pleasant-enough (I suppose), and did the obligatory pours. Tours weren't offered -- no doubt due to the inclement weather, but based on the Yelp reviews, sound fun and informative. Can't say enough great things about this winery. I was introduced to their wine a while ago and quickly became a club member. I have only been able to visit the winery a few times but every chance I get I always enjoy myself there. Their wine focuses strictly on just a few varietals of estate grown wines. They have been producing wine for quite a while and the owners know the valley in and out. This is a rare gem in Napa these days in that the people who own and started the winery still own it, and they clearly have Napa in their hearts when they make wine and tend the land. The wine itself is fabulous. You will not find better wine at this price and likely not for double the price, either! Everything is always spot on and beyond reproach if you are a fan of Napa reds (particularly Can Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot and Zin). The staff is excellent. Mary Ann is their sales director and she takes great care of Paradigm's clients! She is very knowledgeable and friendly. Finally, the winery is just a great, quiet space to find some time to wind down and taste the heart of Napa. Highly recommended but be sure to book your visit in advance as it is appointment only. On my last trip to Napa, I was looking for smaller and more intimate wineries. After years of visiting the larger places, it was refreshing to find Paradigm Winery in Oakville. Nestled between the big boys off Highway 29, making an appointment will gain you access to their cozy tasting room. Our tour began with a nice rose while walking around the tiny, but complete winery. Back inside, the menu focuses on big Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varietals typical of the Oakville appellation. You get great wine with a more personal experience in a beautiful environment. Paradigm also has a refundable tasting fee with minimum purchase ($100) which is very refreshing. Paradigm Winery located in the Oakville appellation of Napa Valley, hand-crafts small quantities of estate-bottled red wine. They're known for their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon,thought they also produce a limited production of Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc and Rosé. Their wines are expressive and terroir driven for 3 decades now. Paradigm Vineyards was purchased in 1976, and began producing wine with the 1991 vintage. Since that first vintage, the wines have been made by renowned winemaker, Heidi is the winemaker for some of Napa Valley's most highly-regarded wineries. She was instrumental in developing the rich, fruit-forward, balanced style of winemaking that most of the world associates with California. She has consulted and made wine for some of California's most well-known labels including Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Vineyard 29, Grace Family, Paradigm Winery, Showket Vineyards, and Amuse Bouche. She is 1 of the women who changed the wine industry in Napa Valley and the world! Paradigm Winery, unlike other fancy wineries, the tasting room can barely fit a group of 6 people at a time. Mr. Greg Harris, the owner's brother, is the only person at the tasting room. He has a big soul and a warm smile. It was so much fun talking to him about wines and Napa Valley wine country living. We got to sample these: Rose, Zinfandel, Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab, all were very good, but this time, the Cab Franc just jumped out. Then Mr. Gary let us tried the vintage 2001 with the Coravin tool, talked about this wine can age real well. What was a great treat. This was delicious, medium-bodied with raspberry, cherry and spice, creamy and round mouthfeel, beautiful fruit and earthiness with a lingering finish, medium finish. This would be perfectly paired well with food. BUY IT! This area of Oakville is home to some serious wines of Napa Valley such as Harlan, Far Niente, Detert, Cardinale, Opus One, Gamble Family Vineyards, Silver Oak Cellars, just to name a few, and Paradigm Winery sells their grapes to some of these famous wineries that I just can't name name. But you get the idea of how good their grapes are in this appellation. Rumor has it at 1 of the wines blind tasting event, some judges picked the Paradigm over screaming Eagle, true story. And this accessible delicious juice for a fraction of the other cult wine. Merlot is $50, Cab Franc is $62, and Cab is $75 for current release. STOCK IT UP! We had an amazing time, no fancy architecture or arts needed when you get this beautiful vineyards, good wines, and Mr. Greg pours us the wines. Napa Valley wine country living is as good as it gets. Skip the crowds & set up a private tasting at Paradigm. If you can't bear to be another walk in at a $5.00 tasting, then do a tiny bit of pre-planning and head to Paradigm. They are making magic in bottles over there, no kidding. They share a winemaster with Screaming Eagle (sorry to name drop) and it shows. Most of their reds are blended with some Cab Franc - my personal fave. Pricey? Yes. Better than anything you've tried on a walk in? OH YES. This tasting just bumped itself onto my top 5 list, and roosted itself above Duck Horn. There are no fancy tasting rooms here, basically an office, a dog, nice people, lovely views & a hefty pour. Michaela gracious took our reservation and hosted us this past Sunday. Paradigm didn't disappoint. Definitely a red wine lover's go to... My first visit to Paradigm was a very pleasant one and it was great to see how delicious Oakville's reds can be especially for the price point. Still being relatively new to this region of Napa Valley, I was informed that Heidi Barrett (fellow UC Davis alum!) is one of the top winemakers here and a couple sips of the wines were all it took to have me completely sold. For those who aren't members (yet), the tasting comes at $25 and the fee is waived with a bottle purchase. An amazing tasting! The zin was ideal and ready to drink. The cab franc will need to sit a little while and I got it just for that reason. Our host was the best most patient person. Several wines were tasted and they were all wonderful. The Zin great as were the cabs. You can't beat the view and the wines. Very reasonably priced for the quality and the attention. Ren was there and we talked some about his experiences when he first moved. He's a really Napa Valley original and I could have talked to him for a whole day and wish I had more time to talk to him about the history of the Valley. Dean took us on a tour and explained a lot about Paradigm's growing and winemaking philosophy then we got to try several current release and a cellar vintage and they were all very good. Had an out-of-town buddy in for the weekend & was hoping to discover a new winery.....another buddy recommended Paradigm & I trust his judgment so off we went Verdict? Their Cab Franc is 2 die 4!! Award-winning bottles will keep you coming back for more & more - I know Paradigm is now a must-stop for us when up in wine country But don't fret - you can also find these wines widely distributed & since the Ferry Bldg is a hop, skip & jump from where I work, I can easily pick more of this deliciousness - which is a big score!! But it was so nice to be at their vineyards, to take a stroll around & hear the story of how they came to be.....we also discussed some great places to try in downtown Healdsburg Merlot is smooth but has a nice peppery finish - multiple bottles Their 2005 Cab was so smooth & sweet we went completely overboard in the purchasing....but I mean, really.....you can never have too much Paradigm Cab Can't wait to bring out-of-town friends back in a few weeks & share the luv that is Paradigm! read more

Paradigm is the reason why you would want to go to a winery. Unlike the mass market wineries that open themselves to the drones of tourists looking for a buzz, this place is all about the wine. The tasting room is simple-- it's part of the office. There is no overpriced merchandise or fancy glasses, just a few opened bottles and someone who really knows and cares about the wine and winery. Greg, I think that was his name, the brother in law of the vineyard's owners was our tour guide. Greg gave us an education about the winemaking process ---from the land to the grapes, to the aging process in the oak barrels. The wines really speak for themselves. The winemaker here really knows how to make a perfectly balanced, smooth, complex wine. I enjoyed every single sip we tasted. While I was there, I forgot my phone. We had mentioned that we were heading to Bottega for dinner afterwards. At Bottega, another taster that we met at the winery came to our table to let us know that I left my phone (which was dead) at the tasting room. 20 mintutes later, Greg drops the phone on my table. Now that is service. Great service, great wine! This is a must stop for your Napa winery excursion. read more

I had always wanted to go wine tasting to validate what I've read about Paradigm. Yesterday, I convinced my wife to try their library of wines. Luckily, although there was no available table for wine tasting, they gladly accommodated us for a quick visit and offered us a pouring of their Cabernets. It was one of the best wine tasting experiences we ever had. Maryann (or Marianne?) gave us a warm welcome and introduction to their Cabernets (2016 and 2017) plus a taste of Roset and even extended a quick tour of their winery. Ren, the owner, also spent some time to greet us and share an overview of his vineyard and winery. Came here with an industry friend who is a Certified Sommelier from Mexico (he sold the wine in his restaurant) back in September. Called in about an hour in advance to see if they would take us since they are technically "by appointment" only. The woman who answered the phone was very nice and said that they could fit us in. My friend was quite excited as he sold much of their wine and was excited to try some of the other varieties. When I arrived, the person who I spoke with over the phone was very friendly, however the woman who was providing tastings (annie?anne?) was very unwelcoming and rude. She made a snippy comment about how everyone in the industry knows that they should inform the winery that they are industry before coming in (not that it made a different in the experience or cost of the wine tasting). Things got worse from there, during the whole experience, we were rushed to finish the tasting. And while her wine knowledge was sub-par at best, the worst part is she kept correcting my friend's English which was quite annoying. This winery is so far away from the tradition pomp and circumstance wineries that dot across Napa Valley. We came to visit Paradigm after falling in love with Heidi Barrett, the wine maker. This is what Napa used to be about. A small estate winery with good wines and people who like to talk about wine. The birthday girl called Paradigm after we left lunch (where we enjoyed 3 or 4 bottles of the '04 cab) to see if the private room could take us. Lucky for us the owner, Ren, was in the office catching up on work and said that he could take all of us. =) We promptly had the driver take us down the private road with no wineries to a small building with locked doors. Suddenly Ren appeared and greeted the group with the smile asked us if we'd like to taste and take a little tour of the grounds. He poured us each a tasting of Merlot and proceeded to walk us to the vineyard where he had us each pick some grapes to taste. They were in the middle of crush and the grapes were ready for picking. He then brought us to the processing room and then the barrel room. Ren was very friendly and answered all of our questions. After we finished the tour, he then poured the Cab. A majority of us walked out with several bottles and he even signed a couple for the birthday girl. They do sell their wines online and don't charge membership fees for their wineclub. Paradigm, how I love thee. A private tour of the winery, no tasting fees, and delicious wines to boot. Our guide is the brother of the owner of Paradigm, who gave us great insight to the winery. It was a nice touch when he poured us the 2005 Merlot before they the 1999 Merlot, so we can experience the difference between the two vintages. We were all so impressed by the 99 that we rushed to buy up the last of their stock. Since they were out of the 99 Merlot, they offered us the 99 Cabernet Sauvignon for the same price. The 99 Cab wasn't in the tasting, so he opened a new bottle, just so we can try before we buy. Needless to say, we enjoyed it and was more than pleased that he went out of his way. These family wineries are what Napa's really about. Skip the big commercial ones and take a walk on the other, less crowded and less snobby side. :) read more

Love this place. I called at 4:45, not knowing that they close at 4PM, and asked if I could come. Greg, the brother's owner, was gracious enough to let me come late, and even gave me a brief tour of the winery. If you don't know their wines, let's just say you have to try them. This is one of the best wineries in Napa, drawing comparison to the venerable Screaming Eagle. The killer, though, was that my wife left her phone at the tasting room. It happened that we had discussed our dinner plans while there, and later Greg shows up *at the restaurant we were dining at* and dropped off the phone in person. Wow. Excellent winery. First discovered this winery at Charlie Trotter's with the 07 Merlot. I usually hate Merlot, but when I had this at the restaurant, it was exceptional! So after my visit at Charlie Trotter, I made it a point to go here when I"m back in wine country. Scheduled a visit with the winery. No hooks or gimmicks, just damn good wine. The experience was very intimate and our host was entertaining and very down to Earth. We sampled a ton of wine there, I actually ended up liking all their wine. Everything from their Zin, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, even their Merlot were all excellent. I ended up leaving with a Zin and Cab Franc/Sauv, and I will certainly come back and probably order more! read more

Paradigm is truly a diamond in the rough. If you are looking for a personal, intimate wine tour, then this is the winery for you. Greg was wonderful with us, taking my boyfriend and I down through the vineyard and through the barrel rooms. 1:1 education and wine tasting proved ideal, especially when compared to the surrounding touristy wineries. Greg took his time to really explain where the wine came from, who makes it and how it's made. I really appreciated his passion and knowledge for his work. The wine is in a league of it's own. Incredible Cabs, and to my surprise Merlot and Rose. I normally don't care for those last two, but Paradigm really showed me! We loved it so much we joined their wine club!
