I went here awhile back for my sister-in-law's birthday. We had a tasting and it was a wonderful experience. The gentleman who took care of us was so informative of the region and explained their wines in enthusiastic detail. After tasting all the delicious wines, I got their 2017 Clone 6 Cabernet Sauvignon. It's the best wine I've ever had. It was smooth and well balanced. My family and I visited recently because my dad wanted another Clone 6 to open for Thanksgiving. We accidentally entered through the barrel room and the woman who assisted us was incredibly welcoming. She took us to a room with couches so we can be comfortable while my dad filled out the purchase form and asked if we wanted to taste anything. We kindly declined but now looking back I should've said yes lol. And the barrel room smelled so good: oaky with notes of red wine. And the space is beautiful. The patio is lovely with lots of seating overlooking the vines and mountains. It's just a welcoming atmosphere overall with incredible wines. I highly recommend visiting here if you're ever in Napa. read more

Wonderful wonderful experience here in this intimate winery. Mike was a great host, super knowledgeable about the wines and history of the vineyards and even humored us with some FRIENDS trivia! We became members after our tasting - we loved the wines and overall the ambiance and story this winery has. We're so excited to get our shipment in February! We took a couple friends here who were visiting out of town. We sat amongst the barrels and the descriptions of the wine had my name at the top, welcoming us to Bell Wine - super nice touch!! Highly recommend this winery as a contrast to the fancier / larger wineries that don't create a super intimate experience. They were very accommodating as we were late but did not rush our tasting at all. They even started us off with a glass of champagne!! Darren was absolutely Amazing! He based our wine tasting off of knowledge & key information on how to enjoy different wines. He walked us inside through the winery which let me tell you, smelled so magical like woody wine perfume. I was drunk in love with the aroma already. There were barrels everywhere & the ambiance was so rustic chic inside. Then he proceeded with some general history about the location & some scientific facts about the vines. I also learned each barrel gives them about 300 bottles of wine, yummmm!!! Then we got escorted to the outdoor seating area. Absolutely gorgeous in the heart of nature & the scenery is just right in front of you. I was taking in every min of the view with the birds chirping & the wind blowing & the sun shining. HEAVEN. He started our tasting with a bubbly, Merlot, Cabernet, Blended Cabernet, more expensive Cabernet. My personal favorite is almost always Merlot & their Merlot was just so good, smooth & unique. We walked out of there with 4bottles of Merlot so go figure. He also mentioned thats their best seller I believe. That day we had wine tastings back to back so we had to kind of rush at the end to get to our next spot, but let me tell you I will definitely be going back to just enjoy some wine & scenery. Bell was our first stop on an all day winery tour and this small, family-run operation set the bar impossibly high! No other vineyard came close to rivaling their hospitality and quality. We spent a couple hours with Victoria and felt like old friends by the time we left. I loved learning about Mr. Bell's experiments with clone varieties and of course sampling some of his masterpieces. They even provided some super tasty cheese that paired perfectly with the four wines we sampled. The tasting room is in the middle of their production facility and reminded me of a medieval castle. We took a bottle of their merlot home. It's made from grapes sourced exclusively from their small, 6-acre vineyard. And, it's freakin' delicious! I wish we could have bought one of everything they make. Our wallets and our luggage wouldn't have liked that very much though. Rest assured, when we win the lottery, joining their wine club will be the first thing we do! Deliver all the Bell to my door pleaseandthankyou. Until then, we're on the hunt for Bell in NC. This was the first stop of our five winery driver led tasting tour. Our host was very passionate about their products and gave us a very detailed history of the winemaker, his experience and his expertise. The most interesting learning of all was the explanation of clones, its process, taste and the variances over the years. While we found it to be the most informative of tasting of all, we struggled with pulling the trigger on the Clone 6 because we had nothing to compare it to. We enjoyed it immensely but at $130 per bottle, it is not something you want to buy without doing your research. We ultimately bought a Clone 6 elsewhere but I would say they were equally as good. It was simply more convenient to buy it from the place we were visiting at the time. You cannot purchase Bell's Clone 6 by phone or online. You must be a wine club member or purchase it in person. If interested in a boutique winery when visiting, I highly recommend this place. The $20 per person tastings are one of the best in its class. You will not have any other tasting at a boutique of its caliber for this price. read more

We just finished our tasting at Bell Cellars and it was nothing short of perfect. Gretchen was our host and she was exceptional. So informative, so warm and welcoming. She took her time walking us through wine production, the different grapes and nuances. It was such a great experience, especially for two newbies. We got to taste most of the wines on their list and there wasn't one that we didn't like. I personally really enjoyed the chardonnay and the different cabs (clone 6 and 7). Even the Merlot was tasty and I'm not a huge Merlot fan. The team was easy to make reservations with, and accommodated a schedule change. When we arrived, our tasting was ready for us. The table was full of items to smell that can be found in wine. The tasting started in black glasses so we can to rely on smell and taste to identify what we were drinking. It was a really fun experience. We all really enjoy wine, and it was fun to smell things we thought we were tasting. Instead of citrus, is it pear or apple? Orange or lemon? Nutmeg or Cinnamon? Plus the Bell wines were delicious!! A lovely winery off the beaten road. My friend and I stumbled upon Bell Wine Cellars and were welcomed in even though we had not made appointments prior. We spontaneously decided to do the tour for $25, and we are so glad we did! We spent the next hour with Darren, who is their food scientist. We are wine novices, and he taught us how to truly enjoy our wine and some basics of the very fascinating science of wine making. We particularly enjoyed tasting different varieties of grapes right off the vine and of course, the delicious Bell wines. Darren was very kind, knowledgeable, and patient with us. This experience set our Napa trip off to a perfect start, and we were able to apply what we learned from Darren to make our following wine tastings even better. read more

I've read a lot of the glowing reviews and I feel compelled to add another. My wife and I stopped in (with an appointment) yesterday and sat down with the lovely Gretchen for nearly two hours to have fun and lots of amazing wine. Simply put, Gretchen is the perfect hostess. She is worldly, interesting, fun and knows wine. She really did make us feel the most welcome I think we have ever felt at any winery (we've tried at least 50 over the years). After the tasting she took us to the vineyards and gave us grape samples, told us all about whatever we wanted to know, and did not rush us or pressure us at all. It was a purely organic experience, and we decided then and there this winery will be one of our go-to wineries and the possibility of a wine club relationship is quite high. We have more wine than we can drink and more wine clubs than we should so we didn't sign up on the spot but may drop one or two and join. It's pricey if you go with the reds only but you have to pay for the really good stuff in Napa. It's all priced to what the market will pay for it. All in all we loved the "off the beaten path", laid back and CLEAN, lovely tasting room. Can't wait to go back. read more

My company had a team building event here and upon getting here, I was a bit taken aback and how their winery looks more like a house and not so "majestic" as some other wineries in the area. However, after they greeted us and took us on their tour inside, I saw that their simple and basic design was very cool. No big retail shop or lounges filled with sofas. Just a bunch of people who love making wine. They have some bocce courts outside and a few places to sit outdoors. As for the wine-tasting experience, they were very patient and informative for wine newbies like myself. I learned the whole "glass swirling" technique as well as differentiating the heaviness of different varietals. I was dying for some cheese or crackers to go with my wine but I guess our group didn't buy it. The experience was so chill and educational that they were able to find a bottle of a red cabarnet blend that they usually don't even sell on site! I doubt many other bigger fancier places would be willing to do that. It goes to show that great wine can be found anywhere in this valley from wineries of all sizes. read more

Went today for a day trip to Napa, and this was one of or last stops. I had never been here, but someone I was with mentioned it being in a netflix documentary and so we decided to check it out. Jan (pronounced Yan) was or host. He was friendly, carried an effortless conversation with our small party, and was just generally an interesting and great guy! I have had many many experiences at wineries in Napa and surrounding, many of them great! But this one was a bit beyond the others. Not because their wine was fantastic, or the scenery was gorgeous, but because of Jan. Bell found themselves a great host to share the history and heritage of their winery with guest in Jan! Oh and did I mention the wine was superb? Don't come here expecting to find $20 bottles, the least expensive was upwards of $60, but if you have the spare funds, this is a place to spend your cash wisely in excellent wines! Probably one of the worst experiences I've had in the valley. Being local, we like to explore all our valleys beautiful wineries. We came to this winery feeling optimistic and received probably one of the worst experiences we've had here. We were barely acknowledged when we walked in. We were 10 Mins early for our tasting, Maggie gave us a taste of rose and "shooed "us away until it was our time. 30 mins past and no one came to see us for our appointment. We walked to the tasting room bar to be asked if anyone was helping us. We were told Maggie was going to pour us but then John walked up saying we were his appointment? This is a very disorganized and pretentious winery that I would not recommend to our fellow locals. My Fiancé and I did a spur of the moment trip to Yountville for the day to get a little wine tasting in. I did a quick google search of the wineries in the area and this winery came up among others but it has such a cute and easy name to remember so it stuck in my head as we were driving over. It was our first stop and gosh did Darren make it hard for the other wineries to match. Darren greeted us outside right as we got out of our car and we didn't know it was appointment based but he said lucky for us, he was free and was more than happy to give us a great experience. He was super knowledgeable, relatable and easy going. Throughout the whole time we were there, he made us feel so welcomed and comfortable. He didn't give us a menu, he brought out wines based on what we told him we like which I appreciated. They were all great wines with notable differences. My favorite was the Taliana! We left with amazing wine and cheese and crackers in our tummies, as well as much more knowledge in the field of wine in general. Too bad, I wanted to trade stories about South Africa with him. We begun with a fruity pinot gris from the Willamette Valley OR and a few more non-unique whites. The reds came with a tasty cheese plate and a private room- though Sandra kept coming in and out taking bottles with her. The best was the tasting from the barrel, the clone 6 cab 2009. I also enjoyed the yountville merlot mixed with a hint of cab and syrah for a fruity but deep tasting wine. After we had a chance to see their machinery and marvel at the storage of barrels they had in the facility. Easy gravel parking, hard to tell from the signage on the street-you must be looking for the place, and you need to have rezzies to get a tasting. We were blessed with the opportunity to visit Bell Wineries on Saturday. Our appointment was at 2:00, however we showed up early just to start drinking and wait for our appointment. However, we were met by Darren who was eager to allow us to start drinking early. He gave us a quick tour, Gave us the comfier chairs, let taste the better grapes and treated us like we were royalty connoisseurs. He properly taught us how to smell wine like wine snobs and what angle/degree our pinky should be. Lmao. Darren and the staff was wonderful, we even got to meet Mike who is Amazing at Origami and Kusudama (learned a new word!) and got a new ornament to hang on the Christmas tree!!
