Love all the friendly staff (Raymond, Elliot, etc.) and owner, Maria! Came in today and was helping a friend pick out a new air plant over FaceTime, and while leaving, Maria gave me a bouquet of flowers she had put together. It really demonstrates how important the relationship with her customers is for Maria and Paraiso as a whole, as I can always have help or a good conversation with everyone at the shop. Stopping into Paraíso Plant Studio a few months back, we appreciated the COVID safe, max number of people per area and 100% masked attendance rules. Having never been before, we didn't realize Paraíso was more of a boutique plant shop. And turned out to be where we bought our much loved Leaves McGee, who is officially one of the bougiest plants we've ever owned. Leaves McGee is not a fan of direct sunlight and needs to drink distilled water. He is in fact, so high class, Smartwater is his liquid of choice and only with consistent watering of said fancy water will he flower. While he came with verbal instructions on his near diamond water level requirements, we did not know he would flower, or how cute his purple little flowers would be. Beyond possibly having a little more written information up front about Leaves, our experience at Paraíso Plant Studio was wonderful. The service was very warm and friendly and we were able to find Leaves a pot after choosing him for the wonderful pattern he displays. All in all, we would definitely recommend dropping by. read more

I called Paraíso Plant Studio last week to send a plant to a family member (I live out of town). I was looking for something special and it needed to be in a pot and delivered. I was connected to Raymond who is one of the store co-managers and he was amazing. He spent a lot of time with me going through plant options and pot options. He could not have been lovelier or more patient and reassuring. He had me email the wording for the inclusion card and he had my note handwritten. This was the first time that I have used Paraíso for a delivery (I have been in their lovely shop when I have visited Berkeley) and it was a perfect experience. I found Paraíso Plant Studio almost by accident. What a great and unexpected find! To begin with, the owners and staff are all warm, welcoming and helpful. But, another surprise was that the house plants I found there were, overall, healthier and at least as affordable as the selections at the other, more long-established places which had been recommended to me. And their "Plant Perks" started to pay off right away, too. Bonus! I'm almost sad that soon I won't have even one more place in my tiny home, for more Paraíso plants. Beautiful store, beautiful plants, and beautiful people! I came in today not wanting to purchase a plant, but honestly, we all know how that goes. Every plant in this cute lil shop was perfection, they all looked so loved and happy (not a sad leaf in the place). The pot selection is also top tier - so many colors and sizes. I grabbed a cute peperomia and a pot to match. To my surprise, they also offer repotting services, so if you purchase a pot and plant together, they'll pot your new baby in your new pot for you! I LOVE this idea! The customer service is also to die for, everyone was so approachable and friendly. I believe it was Elliot that helped me and they were one of the most friendly humans I've met. It's on a happening spot in 4th street so parking might be tough but it's definitely worth any struggle you may have trying to find a spot. I'll be back for sure! read more

YES, YES, YES!!! I stumbled across Paraíso's website looking for a present for my aunt's 60th. After realizing they are local and an actual brick and mortar I made my way down to Fourth Street to check them out. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the store!!! It was huge! I was warmly greeted at the door by staff. There were all types of plants, all different sizes, and prices. They have small plants to gigantic ones, planters, plant tools, anything you can think of plant related. Also, the prices were reasonable. You don't have to break the bank for a nice plant. This is a plant lover's heaven! It was therapeutic to be in there. I will definitely be back for all my plant needs. read more

It's actually my 2nd time here. The first time I saw this place while jogging and I ended up buying one of their Ficus elastica tineke. That plant is doing very well. Today I decided to come back to add more plants in my life and I bought 2 plants - a Calathea musaica and an Alocasia bambino. I would like to add that I have feline and canine babies so the Alocasia, which is toxic to pets, is going to be placed up where my furbabies can't reach. recently ordered a few ferns and a couple of peperomias from here. One of the ferns came so infested with spider mites that you couldn't see some of the fern because the webbing was so thick. and of course I was so preoccupied with the spider mites I didn't immediately notice both peperomias had stem rot/ black leg. I started my houseplant journey when I moved to Berkeley, and the previous tiny location down 4th was where I bought my initial collection of plants. The owner and her staff have never been less than incredibly helpful and welcoming into the store, and that friendliness has continued at their current, bigger, and gorgeous space. I LOVE house plants and have been looking forward to visiting Paraiso after a colleague told me about it. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the staff, who asked if it was my first time and then told me about the store and the current promotions. I browsed around with my son and husband and was overwhelmed by the beauty and tranquility. The plants were healthy and green; you could tell they were in excellent condition. I ended up buying large and medium sized plants and planters. Will be back for the beautiful large indoors trees. I've found my new favorite spot. No more disappointing trips to the local hardware store looking for plants. Kudos to the team that was there today 8/30/22! They were wonderful! I asked how to transport large indoor trees from the store to my home and he explained the delivery process and other options. I was a very early customer back in 2019/2020, right before the pandemic and location change to Fourth St. First experience was absolutely wonderful. The store was small, but incredibly well thought out and curated. It felt like a store just out of someone's garage or shack. I thought the prices were fair given their rarity, but I was a novice, so I had no idea what competitive prices were or if I was lowkey getting scammed. One of the first plants I bought was a calathea ornata in a 6 inch pot. At the time, it was priced based on pot size, and not necessarily density of the plant. I paid around $32 for the calathea. I thought it was a fair price for the market value, but didn't know any better. The plant itself only had about 6 leaves and its stems took up about a dime sized space in the entire 6 inch pot. Months later, I went to change the soil and noticed that the roots were in a perfectly encapsulated root ball that was the size of a 2 inch planter; literally when I was removing the dirt from around the roots, it all came apart in a perfect chunk to reveal the preserved shape of a 2 inch square planter. At that point, I realized I paid far more than what the plant was worth. It was a transplanted plant from a small planter that was placed in a pot more than twice its size, but it's roots hadn't even filled the new planter, let alone had it's density grown to match it's pot size! I highly doubt the owner knew this, but looking back, it felt dishonest to have a plant of a significantly smaller size and worth be in a pot much larger, but still be sold based on it's current pot size. Looking at their website now and photos of their current selections, it seems as though the plants are placed within appropriately sized planters for their density and size. It was most evident when the plant was "sleeping", as prayer plants of the calathea family "open" and "close" their leaves throughout different times of light intake. Despite knowing I was definitely overcharged, I returned countless times because there were very few local plant shops that offered such a variety. I supported their local delivery during the pandemic and constantly posted them. When they relocated to Fourth St., I made an effort to make the commute to that side of Berkeley. Unfortunately, I no longer felt welcomed with both the new staff and the owner. I don't know if my mask made it difficult for her to recognize me, but I felt like I was being watched the entire time there. Saw a previous visitor comment the same thing, and I couldn't agree more. The vibe was just insanely off compared to the smaller setting of the store on Fourth St. I never went back afterward but still supported from afar. read more
