We had a horrible experience at Paprikas Hungarian Restaurant in Hellertown last night and recommend that you avoid the place.
We waited for almost two hours sitting at a table without being served dinner, and then had to leave so we would not miss our concert. Owner was not gracious, apologetic or understanding, but gave us a very hard time about leaving. Apparently, he does not have the staff to serve more than one or two tables at a time. We have eaten there previously many times, but never again!
When we arrived at 5:45pm I told the owner we had 8:00pm tickets for a concert at Lehigh University. I specifically asked if there was enough time to be served. He said that there was plenty of time and he immediately seated us at a table.
After about 20 minutes he took our order, and after about 45 minutes we did get the cup of soup that came with our dinner.
At 7:30pm I asked the server where our meals were because we had to leave shortly. He said he did not know as he went off to clean off some now vacant tables.
At 7:40pm I saw the owner at the door of the kitchen and went and asked him about our dinners. He asked me to step into the kitchen, showed we a number of orders that were ahead of ours, and said it would be 15 or 20 minutes until we would be served.
The concert at Lehigh started at 8:00pm and so, despite being extremely hungry, we would have to leave right then to get to the concert on time.
The owner was clearly very unhappy that we were leaving and charged us almost $12.00 for the two cups of soup. All we had to drink was water. I explained that I was diabetic and should not go for a long time without eating. He said that was not his problem. He said our problem was that we were not patient enough.
He made no apologies or said anything else. The staff consisted of an elderly woman in the kitchen, the owner and a young man. Throughout the time we were there there were some empty tables, so the restaurant was not as busy as it could have been. There was no line at the door or anything like that.
If it was my business I would have apologized and tried to be gracious so that we would return. Instead, the owner simply displayed a "I don't give a damn" attitude.
We had previously eaten there many times and liked the food. But after this I will never eat there again. BTW, we reached Lehigh exactly at 8:00pm and the concert was wonderful. But we were very hungry because we hadn't had any dinner. read more
