I did not have the pleasure of going to Krause's deli before three weeks ago. I did not know you could dine in and that the place was much larger than you think. In any event I perused the deli area and was very happy to discover an old style deli within my reach. After two local grocery stores with delis' have been gone from this town for several years the only place I thought you could at least get decent deli was Shoprite. Now I have no problem with ShopRite except to say it is always busy and over crowded. Yes you can use the app providing it works and order ahead. Their deli is very well stocked and their products are just fine. But I sometimes long for the days I could just run to the deli and pick up good lunch meats etc and come home where we would make our own sandwiches along with various salads. But walking into Krause's was a delight. Now, I must admit I was reluctant after seeing some of there prices. But I have to admit the value was still there if you looked. I got two jars of various jarred vegetable salads. I thought over priced until I got them home and realized they were stuffed to the top and were two pounds a piece. Personally my opinion is the value was quite worth it. I would rather have a little less of quality than more of something I didn't quite enjoy. Since then I have gone to get some of their specialties homemade soup, perogogies and stuffed cabbage to name a few. Let's not mention the potato pancakes. My mother used to make them with me at her side grating the potatoes and onions with our old grater. We didn't have the equipment then so everything was done by hand. As my knuckles can attest to. It took a long time to grate the potatoes and raw onions with tears running down your face. Then it took my mother a couple of hours frying them over the stove two at a time. It was hot intensive work. But, oh was it worth it. Krause's potato pancakes made me long for the days I spent with my mother. read more

Was looking for a Polish Deli and came across Krakus Deli in Phillipsburg. I was craving Polish Food so on Saturday my husband and I took a ride to Phillipsburg. We got some pierogis (potato & farmers cheese, sauerkraut and mushroom, and mushroom) potato pancakes and a kielbasa. OMG the food was so good. My mom is in her 90's and sometimes doesn't have a big appetite but boy she has been chowing down on the food we brought home. Everything was delicious. How can a 100% second generation Polack rate this place with only four stars? Come on. It is the best home made food I've enjoyed. There are five star gourmet restaurants that serve Polish food. This was not gourmet, it was just great home style food. And, it is very reasonable. There are as many variations of kielbasa as there are butchers in Poland. Kielbasa simply means sausage in Polish. I have personally tasted over 20 variations of kielbasa. Increase that to 21 after today's offering. Forget what you get in grocery stores that sell kielbasa that appeals to the masses. Real kielbasa is far superior. A nicely scored flavorful sausage came out. It was great and unique. Typical smoked kielbasa is put in the casing and smoked til it has some texture. This one was cooked after it was stuffed and THEN smoked to serve. Wonderful! Let's get something straight. You have one peirog. You have two or more pierogi. There is not such thing as pierogies. Now that is off my chest, I really liked the home made ones here. Finally on my plate was a stuffed cabbage roll known as golumpki. My mom and her mom made the comfort food I grew up on. These were genuine, and home made, but different. Familar to me are the beef and rice fillings. These has a veal or chicken filling. A deli is attached to the restaurant. I bought little because lots would not fit in my luggage in the plane on the way home. read more

GREAT little place in P-burg with some really tasty traditional offerings at a great price. Menu is small and everything is made to order so expect some waiting (call ahead is best way to go) but the food is fantastic and the staff is great to talk to. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the mood for Polish food, gotta try the stuffed cabbage! It also doesn't hurt there is a GREAT liquor store right next door! Excellent every single time over the years & never have purchased anything that didn't surpass my expectations.......... stuffed cabbage for take out in different varieties, soups, potato pancakes, baked goods, Christmas cookies they bake themselves always satisfied........ have even purchased her home made masks at the beginning of the covid-19 shutdown,,,,,,,,,, have dined in and usually purchase take out meals and goods for my shut in friends and family members in addition to myself. I love this place. Everything I've gotten here has always been delicious--my dad especially loves the bigos/hunter's stew, and the pierogis are a must. Parking can be a little tight, but the deli is located in a residential area so there is plenty of street parking--you just might need to walk a tiny bit. As a heads up, the cashiers sometimes do not speak fluent English. I've never had a problem with this (the deli's owners are from Poland, after all), but you should go in there with an idea of what you want, because the workers might not be able to help you as much as you'd like. They're all really friendly and will do their best to overcome the language barrier and help you, though. read more

I'm grateful to my nice Polish cleaning lady for recommending this store to me. I went just prior to Easter, wanting traditional Polish foods for the holiday -- and I'm SO glad I did. Krakus offers a home-made dark-skinned, low-fat smoked kielbasa (they make it in their store) and other lighter skinned varieties purchased from Brooklyn. All of them superior to the crappy supermarket offerings. Barbara and Svetlana, two ladies who work there, also showed me some of their other items. For example: pierogies (various types, like potato & cheese), also made in store and really delicious. And this was really exciting: they sell Russian-style sour cream called "smetana" () -- it's not US sour cream, and not the French crème fraîche, but instead a delicious thick, slightly sour cream in its own flavor universe. Also, Svetlana makes a type of Russian potato salad called "Olivier" () and I now am grateful to have a few tubs in my refrigerator. Off the shelf items include very spicy mustard and horseradish -- two things I rarely find in local Lehigh Valley supermarkets. read more

The owners hail from a small town in northeastern poland about 20 miles from where i am from (a small village)! What are the odds that we meet in phillipsburg? They also carry all the items a polish home cannot live without. Polish magazine newspapers, spices, juices etc. i just had a long visit in poland a few weeks ago so i had my fill. Just got a sampler from here, they have some hot foods you can get, like pierogies and kielbasa to go or eat at their cute homey tables. They sell polish groceries and dry meats too. Normally I like the taste of kielbasa but I can't get a lot of it because its too greasy and fatty. This kielbasa is delicious and I dont feel bad in my belly! I never had kielbasa this good! I got kielbasa and pierogies and cabbage for 9.99. It's enough for two people! This place has been on my list for years and we finally got there! It's just 1 street over from Memorial Pkwy in P'burg, plenty of off street parking in front of the building, 1 small step up the curb to get inside. Several different kielbasi loops and rings hung on the back wall with a name and price per pound. We had no clue what the difference was but were immediately given several samples but the woman, my guess-the owner. We went with 3 different types as it keeps well in the frig for a long time as well as in the freezer. There were raw potato pancakes so we tried 2 of them. A case held very many different kinds of pierogies so we tried the potato-cheddar and the sauerkraut. They were perfect! Not too doughy, just the right amount of filling, and looked and tasted just like my grandmother made. We will be back for more kielbasi and pierogies. We took a picture of the wall with the meat names so as to make it easier for us to remember what we got this trip. All of our many questions were happily answered so don't feel uncomfortable not knowing much about the different types of kielbasi. read more

I've been here several times. I'm of Polish heritage, but can't read Polish and only know a few token words. Never have had problem with language. People there are very friendly, and are generous with samples. Admittedly, some packaged items are expensive, but they are imported. Fresh food is very good and flavours remind me of my childhood. I bought some of their packaged food recently from their stand at the Bath farmers market. The kielbasa was good, the pork halupkis OK but, I would not recommend buying mushroom pierogies. The dough was thin on most of the dozen and about half broke apart while deep frying, spilling out the mushrooms. Strangely it took fairly long to cook them (the oil was preheated too). Given the small size and higher price, I'd recommend passing on them. read more

I was born here in the States but still make all my own Polish food. Sometimes I don't want to cook and let me tell you this deli is awesome! The pierogi is amazing, kielbasa and cabonossi perfect and the kapusta is also great. I live near Parsippany and get their food at the Boonton Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. I'll be sad when it's winter but have no issues traveling to their deli. One word: yummy!!! read more

The good: The food is great and the people are wonderful! I love stopping in here when I'm in the neighborhood for some stuffed cabbage or stew. The store section has lots of items to choose from and the smell of the deli is wonderful. If you decide to eat at one of the tables, they use fabric table cloths and the whole area has a nice ambiance to it. The okay: I won't hold it against the store, but parking is a little tight at times. The bad: The only bad part, is that it's not closer to where I live! The potato-bacon-kraut pierogies are fantastic, stuffed to the limit the smoky bacon with the potato and kraut is perfect. Definitely will try more the next time.
