We were excited for some Tex-Mex and everyone we spoke to raved about Pappasito's Cantina so we wanted to check it out. The restaurant is beautiful and colorfully decorated. The atmosphere was on point and lively and the service was wonderful. We enjoyed the warm chips and fire roasted salsa and drinks while we waited for our food to come out. We both ordered a combination plate to try a little bit of everything but were disappointed in the food. We found the rice and beans bland and the enchiladas too spicy for our liking. I wish I would have ordered the fajitas or other grilled items because those were absolutely delicious. While it was a great experience overall, the food was not what we were expecting.

This is a past due review! I came through on Cinco de Mayo and the place was jumping! Parking was decent despite the large crowd. There was a mariachi band it was loud which was to be expected and decorated to meet the occasion! I had managed to make a res so we were promptly seated when we arrived. Pappasitos is a well oiled machine because again it was jumping in there packed and with a line of people waiting to be seated and we had prompt and efficient service. Interesting though but now you have to request the green sauce and there is a fee associated with it. Also it doesn't taste as good. But any rate the red salsa is still very very good. I ordered fish tacos and the Cinco de Mayo margarita! It was bomb and you got a special Cinco de Mayo glass with your order. We also ordered the guac it was just okay butttt. Overall a good time with good drinks and service!

Such an amazing time! I went here for lunch with my mom and we definitely enjoyed ourselves. Coming from working in the restaurant industry I can understand how the environment can be stressful. So the only thing I will say that was negative is that our busboy/buswoman didn't clean our table and chairs thoroughly. Besides that we had an amazing experience. Food was fresh and hot. The sweet tea was definitely sweet and our waitress was amazing.

We stopped in for a quick snack after long travel day and made it just in time for happy hour. We sat at the bar and had drinks and appetizers. Bartending staff was very friendly as were some the regular customers there. We ordered the mini matador nachos and ceviche stuffed avocados. Both were delicious!!

I came to Houston recently and visited Pappasito's for the first time. The overall atmosphere was lively and the restaurant was huge. I ordered their gauc and beef, shrimp, and quail fajitas. The guac was made fresh with avocado chunks in the guac. It was so creamy and went great with the thick tortilla chips provided. The fajitas were also amazing. All of the meat and seafood was grilled to perfection but still juicy and tender. The service was fast as well! The only downside was the price- I paid almost $45 with tip and the guac was not covered on my tab. I look forward to coming back the next time I am in Houston!

Food: Our group ordered Caesar Salad, Enchiladas, Lamb, Tacos and a couple of other dishes. Everyone was beyond please with their meals and most of us went home with leftovers. To top off our dinner, we had yummy birthday sopapillas Service: Our server Oscar was professional and provided us with courteous and excellent customer service. Atmosphere: Enjoyed the vibes of this clean and friendly environment.

We came here before a Texans game. I was surprised they allowed us to make a reservation a few hours before kickoff. The place was packed, yet they still managed to the reservations perfectly. Their service was great as well. Very friendly, attentive and fast. They start you off with chips & salsa, and we ordered some frozen margaritas and Queso as well. Off to a nice start. The queso was really good and the margaritas were tasty. We also ordered their large Beef & Chicken Fajitas. These were also very good and very filling. The fajitas came with a side of rice, beans, tortillas, guacamole and pico de gallo. They also asked us if we wanted, cheese and sour cream, but we declined. We didn't care for it at our last place so didn't need it here. Everything was so delicious. Both meats were very juicy, tender and flavorful. You definitely get plenty of food and it's more than enough for a family of four. Overall very satisfied and wouldn't hesitate returning for another Texans pregame meal.

this was the HH spot for me around 10 years ago and nothing stays the same, sometimes for the best or not. Happy hour starts at 3pm and no longer has the wave margarita or sangria on it. Also the bartender said something about beers not being on it? So I ordered the lunch mixed fajitas that in no way is a lunch price lol but hey the taste is the same yay! I did have attentive service at the bar area that has several suprisingly comfortable stools available. 5 stars for food taste consistency, 4 stars because of the shortened HH menu.

So we made a reservation here around Rodeo season. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was actually places to park. I love that I was seeing security walking around the parking lot. Getting there was rough though and I had to make a turn under the freeway. My advise is to get into the left turning lane instead of the turn lane. It's faster during rodeo season. The food and the drinks are good. I had a tiki timeout and a chicken quesadilla. They gave us chips and salsa while we decided on for and drinks. I love this place bc it's close to the med center. But the service here is super slow.

Went here for a birthday party (party of 10). We were able to get seated within 10 minutes which was good. The chips and salsa were good while you wait for your food. I almost ate a whole basket of chips alone. Margaritas are strong. You need only one. Food was amazing. Service was a little slow. It was because our server had our party and several other tables. We were patient though. Overall, good experience.

Walked in, was immediately greeted by a host stand full of smiling faces. It looked super busy outside, so I was a little nervous when I walked inside, but thank goodness it looks like the bar was clearing out. I sat at the bar and was immediately greeted by the bartender, John, he was super laid-back and didn't make me feel pressured to order right away. A few minutes went by, I hadn't decided what I wanted to drink, so I walked over to the bathroom, when I came back, I ordered my meal with bartenderJared, I got the lamb chops meal and a side of beef fajita to make tacos. And then I got the watermelon frozen margarita. John made my drink, Jared took my food order. Thank you guys for a great experience, also, the guy Elijah at the end of the bar, he was fabulous as well. Also Kennedy checked on me while I was enjoying my meal, and she was just the sweetest. Thank you to all of you. I use to be a fasttracker manager for sitos for like 1.5 years so I know the standard, and they blew past it :)

I love a good oyster po-boy, but it is hard finding one that is reasonably prices. And with ACTUAL po-boy bread rather than sandwich bread. A place like this is hard to come-by with a true New Orleans touch and even name (Calliope). This is officially my go-to spot for oyster po-boy. I do like my po-boys drenched so I will have to ask for extra sauce next time. I am excited to try their other cajun options on the menu next time :) I saw others inside eating their seafood boils.

App to find a new place to eat with no real feelings toward any particular place. Landed on Calliope's page and read the reviews. Looked good to me so I headed there. Restaurant is on the end cap of a strip plaza. Has a drive-thru as well (pleasantly surprised to see that on my way out). Parking is ample as most businesses were not open on a Saturday after 4p. Parked right in front. Dining room has about 6 tables for up to 4 people each, as well as two Hi-Top tables with seating for two each. Counter has 40" TV screens with the entire menu on them right above the cashier station. Menu cycles through pics of a few food offerings as well. Came because of the review suggestion of the Boudin egg rolls and the Suicide Shrimp Boiling Pot. Ordered both from the nice cashier who explained the entire menu, best sellers and offered modifications to the rice as well. After I paid for the order, was given a disc pager and took a seat. Dining room was clean and well lit. Waited about 15 minutes and the cashier motioned to me that my order was ready. She explained that the boiling pot sauce was placed on the side so the shrimp wouldn't be soggy and explained the other sauces that were included in my order, which were the boudin remoulade and the boiling pot garlic butter. I paid about $28 for the appetizer and main entree. They offer sliced cake, bottled flavored punches and Coke product fountain drinks, as well. It took me about 30 min to make it home and the food was still hot. The shrimp are small to medium in size; the fried rice comes with scrambled eggs, carrots, peas and onions (which I had removed). Boiling pot comes with one potato and a mini ear of corn with a boiled egg. Think: shrimp boil deconstructed. The sauce was mild flavor {offerings are Regular (no spice), Mild (medium spice) and Extra (chili sauce based spice)}. The sauce on the rice and shrimp were flavorful but I found even the mild to be too spicy for my taste (have acid reflux, so I actively avoid spicy foods). The rice was good (I added extra scrambled eggs, additional fee) and the plate is more than enough for two people. The egg rolls have cream cheese inside. Though not my taste, my roommate enjoyed it with the remoulade it comes with. Overall, between the cleanliness of the location, the service of the staff, the portion size, and value for money, I will be back to sample other items from the menu.

On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

While there's nothing extraordinary about the kind of business Taro specializes in (#1), the…read morelocation alone is worth noting. Situated directly across the street from NRG Stadium along Kirby, it's ideally placed to capture the slice of tourists and locals. Considering the wide selection of Japanese-inspired fare, the potential is there -- but unfortunately, the food is both overpriced and mediocre, much like their predecessor (#2). Things I appreciated: * Interior: I am fairly confident that one could show up with 20 people from a football game across the street and find a seat. There's enough seating in here to house an army and they've done a good job with the ambiance to keep the appearance of a faux-premium vibe. * Service: While they were generally slow on a few things, most of the staff members I've encountered were super pleasant and very transparent about what / what not to order. I appreciated this immensely. * Yakitori: No exaggeration, this is one of the better AYCE yakitori experiences I've had. The chicken and beef yakitori combos (#3) had great presentation, were juicy, and full of flavor. This was the only item where I wanted multiple orders. Things that are not great: * The price: This. My first time coming here it was $31 (Or ... $30.99), but the last time was $50. With that kind of a steep hike, you'd think they'd offer uni, toro, and some kind of premium yakitori, but too hard to justify considering their lineup of food and drink. * The name: Previously, it was simply "Taro Japanese Restaurant." As of earlier this year, it has become "Taro VIP BBQ SEAFOOD HOTPOT & BAR." * The drinks: I'm stoked they have an alcohol license and can serve wine, beer, and cocktails. But the cocktails are on another level bad. The Mexican Mule ($14.50) was too tinge too sour, the Taro Red ($14.50), Blue Hawaii ($13.50) and Tokyo Rose ($13.50) are way too sweet. Even the powdered milk teas and fruit teas felt very generic. * The sushi: I can handle low quality sushi, but there was some level of funk for almost all the salmon, tuna, and yellowtail that I ordered. It was masked a bit better in the rolls, but at some point, I couldn't order anymore. * The ramen: While I think offering any kind of ramen is a plus in the AYCE scenario, the ramen here is understandably mid. All of the tonkotsu choices are the best bet, but this is a hard pass for even folks that love noodle soup. * The spelling: While I'm typically forgiving of most menu mishaps, the fact one is being charged $50 and they can't seem to spell shoyu, fried, tartare, etc. correctly is kind of mind blowing. * Most of their baked sushi items: This includes their tataki, baby octopus, mussels, ankimo, and tartare. This is likely due to the seafood quality issue that I had alluded to earlier. * The crawfish: Skip. Don't bother ordering, even if it's peak crawifsh season since it tastes like something more from a Chinese buffet than anything resembling the kinds of crawdads from Louisiana. For a place that boasts being run by culinary graduates trained under a famous Japanese chef (#5), it's incredibly disappointing to such such variety paired with such flawed execution. One could argue Taro is more style than substance, but I hope they find a way to correct their course. ____________ (#1) All you can eat Japanese restaurant where everyone speaks Mandarin. (#2) Akashi: https://www.yelp.com/biz/akashi-houston-7 (#3) Calling all carnivores: This is your moment. (#4) "Shyoyu" "Fired" "Tartar" (#5) Takeshi Kaneko? Okay then.
