Crawfish ettoufee
Jimmy S.

I had the crawfish ettoufee and it was good. There was a decent amount of crawfish on a soft bed of rice. The staff was very nice and attentive. The atmosphere is very much like a lively lunch vibe. It surprisingly got filled up even before noon. I'll have to come back to try the gator nuggets.

I hadn't been to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in a while. The food was still really good and the quality definitely held up, but the vibe was just kind of meh this time around. It felt like they were trying to rush us out to turn the table over for the next guests. Even with that, I'd still go back again because the food was still solid.

Lunch Pasta Mardi Gras, $26.95.

Just like all other Pappadeaux, this location's foods were very tasty. We ordered off the lunch menu and the quantity of each plate was more like dinner. Table service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive. We would gladly eat at this location again.

First time here and definitely won't be the last. Stopped by with friends on a Monday evening and caught the late afternoon crowd as folks were seated around the bar or at the high tops. Our waiter brought over some menus and I legit wanted all the seafood. I ended up going with the Atlantic Salmon Alexander and enjoyed every bit of it. All in all, service was good, food was delicious and the setting was pretty comfortable.

If you do not want a big meal order from the lunch special and you will still have leftovers. If you order the Pasta Madi Gras and like to dip your bread in the sauce, I recommend ordering an additional side of garlic bread. You cannot go wrong with Blackened Catfish with red beans and rice. If you are a regular the bar staff usually knows what you are sipping on then your drinks will be nice and right.

Crab and shrimp salad

Family decided to have an early dinner here and we left stuffed with food for the next day. It's a very popular place in a few cities and when I come to Houston I always visit. They have a pretty large menu mostly consisting of seafood options but they are great. Service is always good and Joseph, our server, was excellent and continued to make sure everything was to our liking. We started off with some apps to share like their signature garlic bread, oyster and this shrimp and crab fondue which were all amazing. Our meals came and boy were the plates huge. I got the Pappadeaux platter which was a slew of fried seafood to share. My sister got pastas and salads and fried chicken and shrimp baskets. There were no complaints at the table except my daughter not liking her catfish and Joseph quickly working to accommodate her and her he buttered noodles with Parmesan without skipping a beat. We were just coming from the mall but I can see this being a nice date night spit as well where you can dress a bit fancy. We will be back next time we are in town

Fantastic Blackened Catfish & Dirty Rice !!!

My last 2 visits were Crawfish Étouffée with dirty rice on one dine-in and a takeout of 4 Stuffed Shrimp with dirty rice on Monday night. Both very delicious, high quality, fresh, juicy and so generous with ingredients. The first was full of crawfish cooked properly and a nicely, savory sauce with a savory dirty rice you could eat all by itself. The stuffed shrimp were truly the essence of outstanding and imo, the best shrimp dish I ever had in my life. Each piece was a little crispy outside and so succulent, creamy in feel like mashed potatoes or stuffing in texture you could say and so well-seasoned. The oniony, herby vibes were spot-on and the tenderness was top notch like the taste. The shrimp tail in the middle of each was very tasty and good quality shrimp with actual flavor, not the frozen types some places use. Very welcoming, friendly and attentive service on both visits too. I am not a fan of Pappas Bbq and find Pappas Burger to be good, not great. However, I always truly loved Pappadeaux, Pappasito's, Yia Yia Mary and Pappas Bros Steakhouse. I still need to try a dessert from here next time.

Shrimp Gumbo

My husband and I decided to order gumbo for the 2 us for our Christmas meal. My husband picked it up on his way home from work and brought it home. Both bowls were full of rice and hardly any meat. We ordered a separate side of meat and this was what we got, which we paid extra for. I'm not a huge fan, but my husband absolutely loves this place. This is very disappointing. Crazy we paid $50 for this

We were at a conference and stopped by Papadeaux Seafood was great. I enjoyed my dish The oyster was out of this world. A must try appetizer Our Waiter was attentive and fun. Overall, a great 1st time experience. We'll be back

Stuffed shrimp was delicious

The food never disappoints. I try to eat at Pappadeaux every chance I get. The service is always excellent and the ambiance is always cozy and inviting.

Southern hospitality at its finest!!! From walking in with the hostess they told us about 25 mins wait. And it wasn't too long of a wait. They ask for your number so they can text you when your table is ready which is great while waiting we grabbed a drink at the bar. Drinks also were made perfectly the vodka soda and Hennessy side cars they even made us a remy sidecar. Alayna our server was amazing very nice and made sure we were taking care of. The food let's start with a MUST HERE the fried alligator large portion about $22 or 24.95 worth it served with a sauce that tasted like Worcestershire sauce or A1 sauce. But grab the crab spinach dip both together are phenomenal paired with garlic bread very thin and crispy! Dinner ordered the Mississippi catfish and my husband got the salmon Alexander both outstanding dishes comes with dirty rice. Mississippi came with a garlic lemon butter sauce while the Alexander salmon cooked medium rare but once again cooked perfectly to a medium touch all over slightly crispy flavorful with crawfish on top with scallops around with a creamy sauce. You won't be disappointed here and the food came out so quick. Dessert what!!! You have to save room for sweet potato pecan pie a La mode!!! Amazing or take it to go for a sweet treat. Exceptional staff , service and food! Love the personal touch of them coming to your table and asking how everything was.

The only other location I've been to was in Georgia and it made me excited to visit again. I finally got the chance to come to another location and it was a let down. The drinks were really bad & the food was not hitting at all at this location. The saving grace was I was with a great friend, the service was fun/friendly and the crowd was enjoying their self. I had/tried 2 drinks and can't even remember what they were called but both were poorly made...sweet and somehow taste "spoiled" at the same time. The bartender that night was cool/friendly, but definitely couldn't make drinks. I ordered the stuffed shrimp & it tastes "dirty" like sand/dirt here. I was shocked & Ive never had shrimp that taste like dirty water until here. This is a place to gather socially & eat appetizers possibly because place was packed/fully social. The food & bartending was horrible the one night I went. I don't usually like giving reviews after one visit, but between the drinks/food which are both separate I felt like doing a review. I'm not a fan of this location & it makes me apprehensive to visit another location.

I love a good oyster po-boy, but it is hard finding one that is reasonably prices. And with ACTUAL po-boy bread rather than sandwich bread. A place like this is hard to come-by with a true New Orleans touch and even name (Calliope). This is officially my go-to spot for oyster po-boy. I do like my po-boys drenched so I will have to ask for extra sauce next time. I am excited to try their other cajun options on the menu next time :) I saw others inside eating their seafood boils.

App to find a new place to eat with no real feelings toward any particular place. Landed on Calliope's page and read the reviews. Looked good to me so I headed there. Restaurant is on the end cap of a strip plaza. Has a drive-thru as well (pleasantly surprised to see that on my way out). Parking is ample as most businesses were not open on a Saturday after 4p. Parked right in front. Dining room has about 6 tables for up to 4 people each, as well as two Hi-Top tables with seating for two each. Counter has 40" TV screens with the entire menu on them right above the cashier station. Menu cycles through pics of a few food offerings as well. Came because of the review suggestion of the Boudin egg rolls and the Suicide Shrimp Boiling Pot. Ordered both from the nice cashier who explained the entire menu, best sellers and offered modifications to the rice as well. After I paid for the order, was given a disc pager and took a seat. Dining room was clean and well lit. Waited about 15 minutes and the cashier motioned to me that my order was ready. She explained that the boiling pot sauce was placed on the side so the shrimp wouldn't be soggy and explained the other sauces that were included in my order, which were the boudin remoulade and the boiling pot garlic butter. I paid about $28 for the appetizer and main entree. They offer sliced cake, bottled flavored punches and Coke product fountain drinks, as well. It took me about 30 min to make it home and the food was still hot. The shrimp are small to medium in size; the fried rice comes with scrambled eggs, carrots, peas and onions (which I had removed). Boiling pot comes with one potato and a mini ear of corn with a boiled egg. Think: shrimp boil deconstructed. The sauce was mild flavor {offerings are Regular (no spice), Mild (medium spice) and Extra (chili sauce based spice)}. The sauce on the rice and shrimp were flavorful but I found even the mild to be too spicy for my taste (have acid reflux, so I actively avoid spicy foods). The rice was good (I added extra scrambled eggs, additional fee) and the plate is more than enough for two people. The egg rolls have cream cheese inside. Though not my taste, my roommate enjoyed it with the remoulade it comes with. Overall, between the cleanliness of the location, the service of the staff, the portion size, and value for money, I will be back to sample other items from the menu.

On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.

Food - I ordered the oxtail combo $29.49, which comes with rice/peas and cabbage and 2 plantains. With the combo you are allowed one additional meat of jerk chicken or stewed chicken, or curry goat (I think). The food was tasty. Plan to visit again. She also offered chicken soup, which was yum, great on the cool day. Drinks - I asked Ericka if they sold adult bevy's, as I had seen on the Bourban Sizzler Yelp page. While there's nothing extraordinary about the kind of business Taro specializes in (#1), the…read morelocation alone is worth noting. Situated directly across the street from NRG Stadium along Kirby, it's ideally placed to capture the slice of tourists and locals. Considering the wide selection of Japanese-inspired fare, the potential is there -- but unfortunately, the food is both overpriced and mediocre, much like their predecessor (#2). Things I appreciated: * Interior: I am fairly confident that one could show up with 20 people from a football game across the street and find a seat. There's enough seating in here to house an army and they've done a good job with the ambiance to keep the appearance of a faux-premium vibe. * Service: While they were generally slow on a few things, most of the staff members I've encountered were super pleasant and very transparent about what / what not to order. I appreciated this immensely. * Yakitori: No exaggeration, this is one of the better AYCE yakitori experiences I've had. The chicken and beef yakitori combos (#3) had great presentation, were juicy, and full of flavor. This was the only item where I wanted multiple orders. Things that are not great: * The price: This. My first time coming here it was $31 (Or ... $30.99), but the last time was $50. With that kind of a steep hike, you'd think they'd offer uni, toro, and some kind of premium yakitori, but too hard to justify considering their lineup of food and drink. * The name: Previously, it was simply "Taro Japanese Restaurant." As of earlier this year, it has become "Taro VIP BBQ SEAFOOD HOTPOT & BAR." * The drinks: I'm stoked they have an alcohol license and can serve wine, beer, and cocktails. But the cocktails are on another level bad. The Mexican Mule ($14.50) was too tinge too sour, the Taro Red ($14.50), Blue Hawaii ($13.50) and Tokyo Rose ($13.50) are way too sweet. Even the powdered milk teas and fruit teas felt very generic. * The sushi: I can handle low quality sushi, but there was some level of funk for almost all the salmon, tuna, and yellowtail that I ordered. It was masked a bit better in the rolls, but at some point, I couldn't order anymore. * The ramen: While I think offering any kind of ramen is a plus in the AYCE scenario, the ramen here is understandably mid. All of the tonkotsu choices are the best bet, but this is a hard pass for even folks that love noodle soup. * The spelling: While I'm typically forgiving of most menu mishaps, the fact one is being charged $50 and they can't seem to spell shoyu, fried, tartare, etc. correctly is kind of mind blowing. * Most of their baked sushi items: This includes their tataki, baby octopus, mussels, ankimo, and tartare. This is likely due to the seafood quality issue that I had alluded to earlier. * The crawfish: Skip. Don't bother ordering, even if it's peak crawifsh season since it tastes like something more from a Chinese buffet than anything resembling the kinds of crawdads from Louisiana. For a place that boasts being run by culinary graduates trained under a famous Japanese chef (#5), it's incredibly disappointing to such such variety paired with such flawed execution. One could argue Taro is more style than substance, but I hope they find a way to correct their course. ____________ (#1) All you can eat Japanese restaurant where everyone speaks Mandarin.
