Have heard lots about this place over the years but never got the chance to come try it out. We came down with a group of 8 on first Friday around 7 so we just beat the huge rush. The restaurant is very loud but that's not really a knock on them in my book. The food was pretty good and well priced, except the fajitas. Where there was barely enough meat to make two tacos with. I had the fried avocado with chicken which was flavorful and just really good. Drink specials on Friday night weren't too bad if you don't mind drinking bud light they are $2.75 on Fridays. Our server was attentive and did a great job taking care of us even when there were seven different tickets at our table. Over all it was a good meal and I will probably come back. read more

The staff here is what gives this place the the final star. The food is good and comes out quickly. The gorditas with beef fajita ( small up charge) were delicious. The tortilla soup is very good and they don't skimp on the chicken and avocado with homemade tortilla strips. From the second you walk in the staff is friendly and welcoming. Very disappointed. Had heard they were good, not so. Chicken dishes we ordered had no flavor, tortillas were obviously store bought and old, beans had off taste. Many were ordering fajitas, maybe I that would have been better. Poor food, slow service with only a few customers in the place. I'll never be back. They may have been good in the past, but no comparison to Casa Rod. Those who say Papa Perez is good Tex-Mex obviously have never had good Tex-Mex. Ran by here for a late lunch. Ceviche portion was large. My wife ( her favorite) said it was delicious. Fajitas tacos with corn tortillas (my favorite) had a very large portion of tender meat and the pico was just like I like it. Love those barrocho beans. A friend and I came here on a First Friday, so it was very crowded. We had about a 30 minute wait, but the hostess was nice enough to keep us posted with our status in line. Our server was a sweet girl named Wendy, she was very attentive and offered suggestions for meal selections. I ordered the empanadas, and my friend ordered the fried avocado. My meal was a lot better lol I'm an empanada snob and I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked them. Beans and rice were solid, nothing outstandingly good. Weak points were the queso and the fried part of the avocado. The queso tasted kind of like liquid velveeta, and the avocado was covered in a strange unseasoned batter. But all in all I enjoyed my meal. I would definitely recommend you get the empanadas and skip the avocado. read more

My boyfriend and I were so excited to find this place when we moved to Bryan! Now, after our fourth visit, I'm so disappointed. During previous visits the service and food were excellent! The most recent visit was different. They closed at nine and we arrived before eight. We were still rushed through the entire meal. There was a frenzy of staff cleaning the dining area as we waited for, and ate, our meals. My food was wonderful! His plate was cold and the enchiladas were hard. Feeling rushed at an establishment we are paying to eat and drink isn't ideal. At times we couldn't locate our server, as she was in the back. Once the cleaning rush was over our server, and another, sat in the dining area at a corner table and ate. We had empty glasses and she was eating. We waited for our check and she was eating. We could see her from our table. What looked like a manager was present, which was shocking. Grand finale? She returned the check for signature and just dropped it on the table and walked off. No "Thank you," no "Have a good night...." Not a single word. I guess she was really hungry. Mind blown. The food isn't worth being treated this way. Not going back. read more

Great location but was really disappointed with the food. The queso was one of the worst I've had and the coffee was equally bad. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with some sort of mushroom sauce (which the waitress recommended as one of the better enchilada dishes). Honestly the mushroom sauce tasted like and had the texture of a can cream of mushroom. However we also had the ceviche which was great and the charro beans which were also good. read more

Is there good Mexican food north of I-10? I didn't think so until I found this place. Great service great food reasonable price and on Tuesday's kids eat free. Ordered one item from the lunch menu that includes iced tea. Ordered another menu item from the regular menu and a water. Check came and included a $2.00 charge for tea. I spoke to the manager and owner. Both states that since the person who ate the lunch menu item drank water they had to charge for tea? They both stated that if they did't charge for a tea that they would be losing money. I stated that it comes with a lunch entree right ? They agreed and still charged me. So I'm not sure what all these bad reviews are about, to be honest. This was my first visit, and from first impressions I was sold. It smells amazing right when you walk in, and the staff was friendly as could be. We had a large group of 30, and they have a huge back room that accommodated all of us. Service was insanely fast and our waitress was so sweet. She didn't forget the extra limes or the cheese I asked for... And literally every other place in town forgets every time! I ordered the beef fajita taco lunch special. The meat was pretty tender, really flavorful, and the tortillas were fresh. I'm a sucker for good tortillas. The refried beans and rice were both mild but delicious, not overly spiced or heavy on any one flavor. And no huge chunks of onion or tomato! I will definitely come back. read more

I used to enjoy this place, but the service has gotten poor, it's too hot and they won't turn the fans on, and the food is just so-so. A friend of mine went about a month ago and it will be his last visit also - he ordered fajitas and extra guacamole, went to use the restroom and came back to his table being bussed clean. Ordered fajitas and requested onions well done. When served mine appeared to be the same as the other dishes and when questioned, the waitress said "they are all well done". This place is not good food and the service was terrible. The chips are good...salsa is terrible....The server recommended the Taco Pastor. I usually never stray from the cheese enchiladas, but felt a little adventurous since my friend was paying... The food came and one taco had about a third of the meat as the others...So, I mentioned to the server...her reply...well, I don't work in the kitchen... I asked to speak to a manager.. She just ignored the request... The food was so bad it ran right through me...I went on a trip to the restroom...They need to hang a gas mask at the door...This bathroom was thoroughly disgusting... Our experience at PP has been very lack luster since they moved into the new location. Service is always rushing you out the door! They don't bother asking if you would like another drink, or if you would like dessert. Our latest experience was the last straw. Our waitress hovered around us constantly. Brought the check, came by to retrieve the check before I could even put my card in the little holder, and then took the signed copy BEFORE we were even done with our drinks. I would love to have spent more than 40 minutes at dinner with my wife. The rushed experience is perfect if we were at taco bell, but not a restaurant. Hostile and disrespectful ownership/management team. Be sure to call first, if you absolutely have no where else to go, to ensure accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities. We felt ostracized and targeted because many of the elderly people in our group of 25 had disabilities. I was excited about eating here, as it was recommended to me by a colleague. It wasn't my best experience. The service was just OK. My waitress seemed to be a bit put out that she had to work, never smiled, she didn't talk more than was necessary. The food was also just OK. Environment is open, was seated quickly, chips were brought right as we sat down. Drinks were taken quickly. Salsa was watery, lacked flavor, and had no texture. Beef tasted like it had been frozen and was tasteless. Enchiladas were covered with sauce consisting of nothing more than thick tasteless tomato paste. Three enchiladas could fit in your palm.
