I went in to get a gift card, but I also placed a carry out order. The service was a LITTLE slow and my son was getting antsy, but this place gets five stars because the staff was so kind to him! They gave him a menu to color and were speaking gently to him as we waited. I appreciated that. Not only THAT, but when I got home and opened my bag, I found a little something extra (in New Orleans, they call that a lagniappe). A nice slice of baklava and that other biscuit-type dessert. I didn't know what and where I'd be eating alongside I-77, but saw that this is what is possibly the area's biggest mall - Belden Village Mall - augmented by outboard retail pads and various strip malls. In getting gas, I spotted this place - Papa Gyros. I didn't know they had multiple locations until having to put this review in its proper place. Papa Gyros may sound like a gyro joint but, upon seeing a standard sized restaurant, it appeared to be just that - a Greek restaurant. I parked the car and went in. You know how you can tell how something will go? That's what happened here. (Because you are prognosticating, would that be stereotyping or profiling, and thus politically incorrect?) At any rate, what I mean is that all the vibes were good: I was greeted in a welcoming manner, the interior is clean, inviting, and airy, and the menu is vast. I even saw the servers bring some saganaki cheese to a nearby table with all the requisite fanfare that goes with that. I had a platter with two chicken souvlaki skewers. On the platter, there were also dolmathes, spanakopita (or tiropita), pita wedges, and tzatziki sauce. With it, I had a small Greek salad. In looking at its feta, tomato, onion, and olive content, it had all the things one would expect to see and enjoy in a Greek salad. The service at the table was equally as friendly as the service upon being welcomed and seated. The prices were appropriate for the food and the general context of the restaurant. The restaurant makes for a nice enough place to sit, eat, and relax. They even have a patio with outdoor seating, but the weather was a little off in these parts that day. In short, the experience was pleasant and, without having this planned, it turned out very well. Note that Papa Gyros is one exit north of the famed Football Hall of Fame closer to the center of Canton. Football and Ohio ... wow. These are two things that are simpatico. In addition to that, I tend to think of those blue haired football grannies in windbreakers sitting at local high school football games on crisp autumn evenings and yelling out instructions from the sides of their mouths, much as if they had gone to Marge Schott Charm School, or guffawing if disappointed. (Surprisingly, you can see for yourself that the young Marge Schott looked like she may in fact have gone to charm school.) This typology I refer to does exist in the Buckeye State, and also in the Keystone State and in West Virginia. Going west, in the Hoosier State, frenzied fandom by locals switches over to basketball. So, combine visiting the Football Hall of Fame and having a pleasant meal at Papa Gyros. I doubt that the football grannies will be here because the food won't be 'Merican enough for them and their tribe, but that's a good thing because the atmosphere will be more placid. I think this Papa Gyros has all the ingredients to make it a 5 star casual Greek restaurant. read more

I would normally always give this place 5 stars, the food definitely is consistently delicious. That being said, I have to subtract a star due to the service the last couple of times I've been here. No silverware on the table, no water served until I got up and asked for it at the front counter. Our waitress was nice but she was obviously overwhelmed with having to go back and forth between two seating areas and we sat for long periods of time waiting for food, drinks, check etc. Also, had an employee on break sleeping at the booth behind ours! I visit this papa gyros a lot. usually I get the same thing because I love it. this last time was not good at all. 27.00 for one. the gyro gyro meat was three scrap on the bottom of the shaving pan. some dry pieces soon scrap chunks. The kabob was too be cooked medium rare. it was need well if not well done. do you ever just eat a piece of meat and knows it old. this was this meat. very upsetting because I love this platter! i asked for extra feta in my salad and i got extra but there was maybe 1 oz of greens. I think i need to try another greek restaurant and stay away from papa gyros for a bit. Had an amazing meal tonight. In the area for work and wanted to try something a little different a little more local. This hit the spot. Totally thought I was going to get the gyros before I got here, but veered left and went with the chicken lemonato, glad I did. First it starts with a Greek salad, and it's a pretty good size side salad. Then the entree came. The chicken was cooked well and was good on its own. Very light, but paired with the rice which is fluffy, which is a bit different for Greek places and the with a dab of the tzatziki sauce which is the best I've ever had. Guy who took the order isn't there right now. 1210p walking out to car with food. The food is good - prob best Greek you can get in Canton but the service is consistently bad. Usually it's because they are short staffed - 2 servers for 14 tables I saw seated plus having them work phones and curbside - come on. Love this place! Authentic Greek food at its finest. My wife usually gets the Chicken Greek salad and I get the Gyro Platter(you can tell who eats healthier..lol). Highly recommend. This has been the worst experience ever. The food is decent (although it takes forever to receive), also, I could not even enjoy it for the BAD/RUDE and insulting service. The lady who answered the phone for my pick-up order was so incredibly rude, I was stunned. She not only gave me attitude from hello, she deeply sighed as I made my order. As a nice gesture of assumption, I laughed and asked "Am I confusing you? I'm sorry"-- to which there was no answer. Finally, after multiple deep sighs (from her), I asked, "Did I do something to offend you?" To which she replies, "I need a name and your order" (the name that I had given her and she repeated 3 times). Who ever that person is should NEVER be allowed to communicate with customers again. I am committed to NEVER coming back to this establishment, and I am cancelling the team lunch that was being planned there for next week. Haven't been here in quite a while. They've expanded there menu to include omelets, pasta and several seafood dishes. But I stuck with my usual the Gyro platter Deluxe which includes gyro meat, rice, pita bread, a Greek salad and the necessary t-sauce that I can't spell or pronounce! Food was yummy as usual but service was only fair. Maybe because we were there on a busy Sunday lunch time, but my biggest no no in a restaurant is my entree arriving too quickly. Today I had only eaten a third of my salad when it arrived. I also had to ask for a refill of my iced tea! Don't worry though I'll still go back and recommend Papa Gyros to any Greek food lover and to most others since the menu has been expanded. read more

One of the worse experiences ever. First time going there. I ordered online. It told us the order will be there in 20 mins. We actually got there 40 mins later. We opted for curbside order and I called for order and they said it wasn't ready. So we waited 20 mins and finally I went in. I asked the cashier that I ordered the food 1 hr ago how come is not ready. She rudely answered "BECAUSE WE ARE BUSY, WHAT DO YOU NEED". She didn't even checked what was going on with my order. 20 mins goes by. People were going in and out picking up order. She was nice to everyone after me. Even when a customer a white customer yelled at her she looked down and apologized. Finally I talk to the other cashier and they realized my ticket was not printed. I asked her why the previous snapped at me without checking my order. Her response was "it's not our fault. The online prints in back printer". Mind you while waiting I asked other customer and their order was completed without any issues. No apologies or remorse at all from servers and made it sound like it was my fault to order online. At this point I complained to manager who was also a line cook. She was nice and apologized. Offered me free baklava. I respectfully declined. Finally my order was made in 5 min after they realized their screw up. The same white server gave me my food and still no apology for her behavior. I m an Indian (from India). This was definitely a racist behavior. She smiled and greeted all white customers and all colored she was abrupt and rude. I would advise this business to change their servers. Food was good. Great food!, Saganaki is excellent, Feta Bruschetta, Great Gyros, great Souvlaki - especially the pork and steak. Greek salad and dressing are also very good. Why the 1 star? We went there and most the waitresses, the hostess and 1 waiter we saw were wearing their mask below the nose, kind of a put off, but what was worse was the 2 chefs were doing the same or had it off their face completely at one point.
