Let's start with the good aspect. The belly dancer was good and the staff was decent. Ambience is like a funeral home. I don't need bright and shiny, but it feels like it was hiding things in the dark. The table was easily cleaned as it was like a leather feel. It also smelled of heavy perfume. Food tasted like they microwaved most of the hot food. Falafel was cold in the middle and burnt on the outside. The yogurt to accompany it was at best a cheap Greek yogurt. Pita was not fresh and super dry with little flavor, store bought in sure. The entrees were not the worst thing I had eaten. The rice tasted like rice-a-roni with a little bit of dry "kafta" mixed in. Think dirty rice that was old. The salad was meh tassted like it just sat in oil and had no other flavor. Feta was good. Never had potato wedges with Mediterranean but here I am. Prime was okay, au just was good. Lamb was the same flavorless. Dessert was frozen and uber sweet. I had the baklava which was again, from frozen. The ratios were off, pistachios were present? filo layers separated and fell apart. To say it was not good would be correct. I don't recommend or will return. I'm sure the many patrons will enjoy it, but for me, it is anything but Mediterranean or worth the price. read more

Went to Desert Inn on a Saturday. Food was good as always. The problem was the service. Our waiter spilled an entire drink down the front of me. He never apologized, I had to ask for napkins, and never sent a manager over. I sat eating my dinner in wet, cold, and sticky clothes. Luckily none needed dry cleaning. Loved eating here! Wasn't sure if we would be able to get in, because it was a Saturday night and we didn't have a reservation. Since it was later in the evening, 8:30 pm, we were able to get in with no problem. Staff was super nice and helpful. Very attentive. The food was delicious! The meat on the kebabs was tender, cooked to order and seasoned perfectly for Mediterranean food. Portions were substantial. Enjoyed how the food was served too. It pains me a little to write this because I have been a loyal customer since the 90s, but I feel like something needs to be said. Desert Inn is my go to in Canton for delicious food but it has gone steadily downhill since Mark handed it over to his son. The flavors aren't the same. The portions are smaller. And they are changing or adding to the menu. Why are we putting non-Syrian dishes in a Syrian restaurant? Desert Inn was perfect the way it was. I went recently and the meat and skewer veggies on our family platter were almost nonexistent. The chicken was very burnt and dry. We should have sent it back but did not. The salad, rice and bread weren't as good as normal either lacking some of their usual spices and flavor. I hope this restaurant can be turned around to what it was 2 short years ago. If it's not broke don't fix it. Please don't get me wrong, they still have great service and it's better than most food in Canton, but it is dropping off fast. read more

First visit in more than 10 years and it seems the place has not changed that much. There were four of us - one ordered a beef kabob, one a lamb kabob and two of us ordered a chicken kabob. Two had soft drinks and two had water. We were pleased with the family style sides of salad, potato wedges, rice and bread. The person ordering the lamb had never had lamb before, so his review is not meaningful, though he said it was OK. The beef kabob was very good. Both ordering the chicken had the same opinion--the chicken and vegetables were overcooked, and the chicken was dry. Service was attentive and the server was helpful. There was a $3.00 upcharge for using a card. Total bill without tip was about $111.00 and change. It is a different type of place and worth a visit but will not be a go-to place for us. read more

Desert Inn is a classic in Canton. It was about the only place to get Mediterranean food. Now with all these gyro places you have more options. Kind of looks old but it's not bad. They have a fun desert oasis theme. It costs a little more compared to these fast food Greek places popping up around here. It's more of a lounge. They even advertise themselves as a lounge on the signage. Atmosphere therefore is decidedly better for dinner. They are open for lunch with a smaller but cheaper menu. It has some great cocktails. The best I've had is the blueberry martini. It's about $9 at the happy hour. The food is good too. Falafel is the best appetizer. It's $6 for a pretty large portion. This comes with pitas and sauce. It has some menu structures you should know. They serve everything in family style. This is putting large portions in a bowl or on a plate and putting it in the middle of the table for everyone to take portions themselves. read more

Very outstanding food. I had the filet and lobster tail. The steak was at least as good as I would cook for myself at home (which says a lot! I have some skills!). The lobster tail was the best I've ever eaten. It was perfectly cooked and came right out of the shell. My daughter had the orange roughy, and it was also the best I've ever had. The Grecian salad was excellent and I'm sure the dressing was made from scratch. Syrian rice was similar to other Middle-Eastern rice dishes I've had, but something made it a little different. It was very tasty! My wife had a blueberry martini which was great. I went with a signature desert lemonade mixed drink along with another drink made with bourbon, ginger and apple. I prefer my meat medium rare the meat melted in my mouth it was soooo delicious flavors was exploding sooo juicy scrumptious, sometimes chicken can be dry, but the chicken had just as much flavor and was tender!!! The sides is served on a nice size tray which included rice, Jojos and salad the salad was good but sorta soggy it was drenched in salad dressing... So I was a little baffled that when I walked in the guy hosts sat there and talked to this woman who was leaving. Looked me in my face. He didn't acknowledge me.I had to literally interrupt the conversation. He even pretended to not see me right in his face. They both looked at me as if I was a Muriel on the wall. Of coarse me being black made me question the situation because it was completely rude! Then they couldn't figure out who my party was. This made it more humiliating! A mirage in the Canton dining scene. I believe I dined here years ago, but it was nowhere near as memorable as my dinner here last night. I had the lamb shank and it physically fell off the bone. Flavorful and tender, I pretty much devoured it. It is served with a gigantic platter of rice, salad, potaotes, and garlic bread. All of it was beyond delicious. Washed that down with a nice appletini cocktail. A little sweet for my taste, but still tasty. Service was very friendly. Sidenote: I am glad I did not come here for my birthday, because there was a kazoo involved, playing "happy birthday" for two other tables. I was craving Mediterranean food on a Friday night and decided to pay a visit to Desert Inn. The atmosphere in the restaurant was unique, giving off a great restaurant vibe. The entire restaurant was packed and upon entering they asked if I had a reservation (which is expected as tables were being filled up fast.) Service was as expected from a restaurant, where we were asked what we would like to drink before they took our order. My friend and I started with the hummus and chicken wings appetizer. The pita bread was okay, but the hummus was awesome. I really highly recommend trying out the hummus, it's the perfect amount of savory and compliments the bread so well. The chicken wings were not like your usual wings, it consisted of slightly less breading and had much more of a crispy texture. I thought this was really interesting, but not sure if I would order it again. For our entree, we decided to go with two beef kebobs (which is priced 19.95$ each strip). However the kebobs come in a large tray that carries salad, rice mixed with beef bits, four garlic breads, and four potato wedges. Since it was a Friday, they brought out a belly dancer for entertainment. A lot of people seemed to enjoy it, but it was a little to hectic for my friend and me. Not a big deal, but I saw the belly dancer hit three people while dancing including my friend, which I feel as if she should be more weary of. In an attempt to support one of our favorite local small businesses , we ordered from Desert Inn last night. BIG mistake! We ordered a steak kabob and shrimp kabob family style. Normally we have a huge amount of food this time we were sadly disappointed. There was literally a spoonful of soggy salad with brown lettuce, barely enough rice to share, the potatoes were under cooked, the egg roll grossly full of grease, my shrimp was BURNT and the steak was completely raw in the middle (ordered med well). The food was so awful we threw the entire meal out! A Waste of 50.00!
