Great food, great atmosphere. Showed up on a night where they had family feud, the game host was great and the place was packed. Pasta was excellent, appetizers were good. Pretzel was huge and everyone liked their dinner. We always prefer local places over chain restaurants, I would recommend you give it a try.

Imagine a magical land where the smell of pierogies wafts through the air like a warm hug from your…read morePolish grandmother. Now, stop imagining, because Krakus Polish Deli & Market in Boardman, Ohio, is that magical land, and it is the holy grail of pierogies, kielbasa, and all things Polish food-related. If you haven't been yet, your taste buds are straight-up missing out. First of all, let's talk pierogies, these little pockets of heaven are to die for. Like, not even exaggerating. I tried the classic cheese and potato ones, and I'm pretty sure I saw a light flash before my eyes. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, these pierogies are so good they should be illegal. But wait--there's more! They do weekly pierogi specials, and trust me, each week is a new flavor adventure you won't want to miss. The cabbage roll; Heavenly. The sausages... Let me tell you, if there's a better kielbasa on the planet, I don't know it. The market is like a treasure chest of authentic Polish foods, we're talking everything my Polish grandfather used to keep stashed around the house, like sauerkraut pickle jars (which I'm 100% sure he got directly from the motherland), obscure teas, crunchy wafers, and probably some mysterious cured meats you didn't even know you needed in your life. And then there's the prices. I don't know how they're doing it, but you could feed an entire village of hungry Babcias (grandmas) on a budget here. Incredible value, folks. But--here's the catch--the hours are... um, "quirky." Like, if you're planning to roll up for a late-night pierogi binge, you might want to double-check their hours because they close early. It's kind of like they really want you to enjoy the pierogies, but on their schedule. So, don't be that guy who rolls in at 7:15 pm and finds the door locked. Trust me, I've been that guy. So, check the hours, make sure you're ready to dive headfirst into some of the best Polish food you'll ever eat, and prepare to have your mind--and stomach--blown. Krakus is like stepping into your Polish grandma's kitchen, if your grandma was a magical food wizard who had a secret stash of pierogies she didn't share with anyone. GO HERE. Seriously. If I could give this place 6 stars, I would.

Flavors of pierogies include potato, potato cheese, potato bacon, potato sauerkraut, sauerkraut, lekvar prune, potato cheese jalapeno, cottage cheese, spinach ricotta, spinach feta, roast beef, sausage, cheese pepperoni, buffalo chicken, and some seasonal flavors. Other foods include stuffed cabbage, stuffed pepper, kielbasa, haluski, goulash, borsch, mashed potatoes, green beans, some desserts, etcetera. Many of the foods are available as either hot/ready-to-eat for dine-in or cold/frozen for takeout. For over a decade, I have bought foods from their location in Wexford, and I recently tried this location in Moon Township for the first time. Two employees spoke little English, but they promptly and politely served me. The interior of the restaurant has no seating, and the outside has one small table with two chairs, so this restaurant is mostly takeout. I rate the potato-cheese pierogies and the kielbasa as 5 stars. I rate the haluski, stuffed pepper, and stuffed cabbage as 4 stars.

Our usual…read morego-to spot was closed (and of course it had to fall on a Wednesday ), so we hopped on Yelp to find another place that could satisfy the craving. After some browsing, we decided to make the drive to POC in Richfield, and honestly, we're so glad we did. We were a little surprised to see they close at 6 p.m., but thankfully we left earlier than planned and made it just in time. From the moment we walked in, the girl at the counter made us feel welcome -- friendly, patient, and more than willing to help a couple of first-timers navigate the impressive menu. And let me tell you... the menu did not make it easy to choose. There were so many unique pierogi options, it felt impossible to narrow down. We ended up going with the daily special platter, plus three extras so we could sample a few more flavors: sauerkraut & kielbasa, chicken paprikash, and goat cheese & mushroom. Every single one was different, but all were absolutely packed with flavor -- rich, buttery, and perfectly comforting. Those little moon-shaped dough pockets did not disappoint! The noodles and cabbage that came with our platters were also excellent -- simple, but full of that homemade flavor you only get from someone who really knows their way around a Polish kitchen. All in all, POC was a great find. It might not dethrone our favorite pierogi place in Parma, but it's definitely earned a spot on our list for when we're craving authentic, hearty, delicious pierogi closer to home.

I had the Schnitzel Von Schwein (Pork…read moreSchnitzel) with mashed potatoes & gravy with a side of garlic green beans and my boyfriend had the Weiner Schnitzel with fries and sauerkraut. Both were excellent as well as the bread (served warm) & butter. The only problem I had was I ordered the cherry strudel to go and didn't take a good look at it. When I got home, they must have warmed it because it was soggy and moist instead of crispy AND the top was burnt. Certainly NOT worth the $7/slice. Not sure, but I think I counted MAYBE 3 cherries that were smooshed and looked like the cherries forgot to be added and it was so thin too. Not anything I would imagine strudel to look like, AND it was nothing like the picture on the menu. So be warned, if you go there for dinner, food is well worth the price but please, stay away from the strudel dessert. Take a chance and go with something else.
