I'm not going to lie, I really miss the old location! We used Papa Bears for just about every family occasion, utilizing their many back rooms depending on the size of the event. It could be casual or dressed up. Sigh. The new place just doesn't have the charm. But! The food is still fantastic so I'm so glad it's just moved and not closed. This is not the pizza I've grown up with...I'm 57. Every morsel use to be delicious. Not anymore. Something has changed. Is it the sauce, the sausage, the pepperoni, cheese, the dough or all? I'm not sure. It looks the same but it's not. It tastes a bit bitter to me and salty. And just not good anymore! My first two pieces of my large pizza and I couldn't even finish that. I just had warmed up leftovers and I didn't finish that and didn't enjoy it at all. I have ordered my last Pizza Oven pizza! I'm even going as far as deleting them from my cell phone. Visitors to town so we tried Papa Bear's Italian. Cute name. Has a family friendly dining room. Nine of us were seated in a side room with windows. We had lots of menu choices. The salad that came with the meals was good and overly covered with large pieces of cheese. Was too much cheese. The broasted chicken dinner was very good. We took most of the broasted potato wedges home. The pizza with hamburger, bacon and sausage had a medium crust. Toppings were plentiful. Yum. Pasta was good. We took some home. Petit fillet was cooked just right. Bruschetta was garlic toast with chopped tomatoes. Was good, but not what we were expecting. Chianti was not good. Robert Modavi Cabernet was very good. After visiting the outstanding Pro Football Hall of Fame, we stopped for a late lunch at the highly recommended Papa Bear's Italian Restaurant, and we're certainly glad we did. Their extensive menu offered many tempting choices, but we were especially delighted to find one of our favorites--broasted chicken, which has become increasingly difficult to find in restaurants we vist across the country. We shared the broasted chicken dinner with broasted roast potatoes and cole slaw, and absolutely loved every bite. Both the chicken and potatoes were perfectly cooked--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavor. We also enjoyed the delicious meatball and sausage, which were equally satisfying. Our server and the manager were welcoming, friendly, and professional, adding to the warm atmosphere and making our visit even more enjoyable. My husband loved the majestic bear on site, too! We were also impressed to learn that Pizza Oven/Papa Bear's has been family-owned since 1956 and continues to make everything from scratch. We learned that they do a lot of catering, including for the Pro Football of Fame. Even better, we discovered that they have nine Pizza Oven locations throughout the region, making it easy to enjoy their specialties no matter where you happen to be in Ohio. Although we would have loved to bring back some of the tempting deli items and prepared foods from the adjacent Pizza Oven, our hotel refrigerator simply wasn't large enough. That's just one more reason to return! We are already looking forward to another visit so we can sample additional menu favorites at Papa Bear's and take advantage of the wonderful offerings next door as well. Whenever you're near Canton, Ohio, Papa Bear's Italian Restaurant is definitely worth a stop. Highly recommended! read more

I've been going to Papa Bear's for most of my life, so it was a no-brainer to request dinner at their new location on a recent visit to Canton. The restaurant was largely empty on a Sunday evening, but that may have been attributable to some very snowy weather. Our server was kind and a little chaotic - she seemed overwhelmed throughout the evening. I ordered a salad, a small pizza and jo-jo's. The salad was what I remember (though there was a ton of cheese on it, which felt unnecessary). The pizza was delicious and perfectly cooked. The jo-jo's were tasty (especially dipped in ranch). Of everyone in my party, I was probably happiest with my meal. Those who ordered entrees were less thrilled, but I can't speak in specifics because I was laser focused on my pizza. We went to Papa Bears as a family during a recent visit back home to N Canton. It was one of my favorite restaurants growing up and although it is a new location, the food is still very yummy. We shared a small pizza with my favorite topping of peppers, mushroom, and cheese. It's amazing how the recipe has stayed so well in tact for all of these years and my only critique vs 30 years ago is that they no longer have the same hot pepper rings. Service was very pleasant and there is plenty of seating capacity. Hopefully my next visit wont take so long! read more

The good was the Jo-Jo's are very big and good. The pasta tasted fresh and cooked perfectly. The meat sauce was good just seemed flat, not tangy, not really meaty just dull. Could have used some fresh basil or another touch of freshness. The chicken was crunchy but so dry!! Not a lot of actual chicken either. The interior was dull as well. Black and wood, some pictures but not in a classy way. The taxadermed bear was there...dirty and disgusting. Absolutely NO old world charm. More like a fast food restaurant feel. Out shopping with my wife and we stopped here for lunch. Ordered a small pizza with five toppings. Pizza was very good, not greasy and had a well done undercarriage. Crust was made there. Cost was $16 for a small with 5 toppings which I found expensive. Hostess and waitress were both very friendly. Interior has a more modern clean lines design. A lot of hard flat surfaces which leads to noise and a cold atmosphere. Number one question for any restaurant is will you be back. This place is definitely not what it used to be. The servings are very small, so regardless of inflation the price plus the quantity are ridiculous. A fettuccine dinner only fills the bottom of the container. Noodles are cheap. They could at least fill it half full. A large pizza is 8 square pieces and the chicken is good when done right. It's a hit or miss with quality, presentation and flavor. There is now a fee to use your credit card. The front door is at the back of the building and the building is hidden behind everything else in that area. The old location was more ideal. read more

My wife and I had a delightful time at Papa bear's restaurant. We ordered the baked Ziti, fried mushrooms, veal parmigiano, and a fresh side salad with house dressing all of which was very good! Especially the mushrooms! Our server Ava was really nice, and kept up during the busy lunch rush. The restaurant has a very pleasant family atmosphere with a modern touch. I was really looking forward to this restaurant opening. I live practically across the street and I had heard such good things about it. I have been there three times now since it opened. I ordered a caprese salad. What a disappointment! First it had NO balsamic vinegar on it. Balsamic vinegar is basic to a caprese salad recipe. The tomatoes were thinly sliced it had very small basil leaves. The mozzarella cheese slices were good. I'll never order this salad again! read more

Was there for dinner with friends a few weeks ago. I got the sausage and peppers. The sausage was like jerky... completely inedible. The prices are pretty strong for a mid-level italian restaurant. For the three of us, with tip the bill wiped out a whole $100 gift card. Unless things change, I can't imagine this place being what Papa Bears once was.
