Friendly employees from the start make a difference and this happens at this location. Every time they are really nice and patient when I'm not quite sure what my pick 2 will be. If you are here for lunch, get there early as it fills up quickly and rarely do the tables get a wipe down in between seatings. Nothing worse than a bunch of open but dirty tables. I came through the Panera Bread drive-through at 8:27am. I ordered a small green tea and a chocolate croissant. I sat in the drive-through at the window and watch the young man continue to take orders and slice bagels and toast bagels. I understand he has a job to do and other people than me to serve, but there's no reason that I should've sat in drive-through for 11 minutes. I have a job to do to get too. I Left the drive-through at 8:38am. If I had an extensive order, I could further understand why it took so long, but I ordered two simple things and saw my items sitting at the drive-through window for majority of the time I was sitting there. This was a disorganized mess. It took over 32 minutes to get my cup of pre-made soup. People had ordered on line and had to wait as well as people dining in. They were messing up ordered and not getting stuff right. It was dirty in the dining room and it was unpleasant to see a restaurant look like this. Stopped in for lunch yesterday around 12. The line was extremely long as there was only one cashier. This was my first time to this location so I'm not sure if that is the exception or the rule. Once we placed our order: two pick 2s with broccoli cheddar, a panini, and the chicken breast/apple/cheddar sandwich, the wait for our food was not long. The soup was fantastic. I also tried a raspberry almond cookie, also very good. I discovered that I do not like cold chicken on a sandwich but everything else about it was awesome. First, I have always liked Panera for the variety of vegetarian options. You can always get a soup, sandwich or a salad here. There seasonal items have vegetarian choices too. That had always made Panera an easy lunch answer. The new broth bowl are great! Lately, it has moved up the list with the rapid pick up ordering and the Panera app. Order from your phone, walk in, pick it up , and walk out (often past the long line of people waiting to order). Even if you are eating there it is a great way to do it. The app is incredibly user friendly and quick. It also keeps track of your loyalty rewards. This store is pretty busy at lunch, but they do move quickly. Like most, you don't have to wait long in line or for your food if you don't order online. But you should! read more

What happened to this place? We use to go there all the time. Now that it has been bought out, they shrunk the pastries. The scones are the size of Muffin tops, the cookies are smaller and so are most of the other pastries. We asked the order taker about that and she tried to distract us with telling us how much her husband likes the new blueberries they use in the scone. The salad wasn't bad. Pretty much the same. We asked for 4 bagels in multigrain and she told us one was a special bagel, called a flat bagel? Huh? A bagel is a bagel. This one was just a "mistake" from the bakery... There was a long line to order, even thought the place was almost empty. After 10 minutes of waiting I asked about our order and was told well if we were just ordering soup it comes up much faster. Proceeded to wait five more minutes for our food. Everybody that came in after us got their food before us. I saw sandwiches go out and other orders that included more than just soup. When I stand in line to order and then pick up food at a counter, I consider it fast food. I get food faster at a restaurant with waiters. I love Panera, but very disappointed in this location. I just tried to call the manager and the phone rang for 5 minutes without an answer. We were there two weeks ago and they were out of flatbread for the roasted turkey cranberry flatbread. There were not very many people in the restaurant and it took a very long time to get the food. I finally went back to the counter and the young man was just starting our order. Tonight, they were out of the autumn squash soup and the chicken and rice soup. I especially come to Panera this time of year to get the turkey cranberry flatbread and the autumn squash soup. My second choice, cream of chicken and wild rice, was out, too. When my husband and I received our pick 2's, the soup was a very skimpy portion. His chicken noodle was mainly broth. There were several dirty tables in the restaurant. The time for both visits were around 6:30. We will choose a different Panera next time. read more

I go here frequently and have never had an issue. Just like any other Panera. Love the easy ordering online to pick up! Ideal for my introverted self. Good place to get stuff done and great atmosphere. Staff is nice. Food is delicious. I love the papaya green tea whatever it's called it's soooo good! I was disappointed in the lack of customer service at this Panera. I came here with a group for lunch and require a gluten free diet. Now I realize their name is Panera Bread but I also knew they had a healthy menu. When I asked if they had a gluten free menu, the cashier said no, then I asked if she knew what soups or salads were gluten free and she said no. Then the cashier beside her overheard and pulled out a big binder and handed to her. She rolled her eyes and opened it to try to find out what was gluten free. Based on her demeanor, I decided to order a salad and hope the salad dressing was ok. Then another person, with a different color shirt who looked like a manager, walked by and I asked if she knew what was gluten free on their menu, specifically if any of their soups or salad dressings. She looked annoyed at me and said she wouldn't know that without looking it up, in a short voice. So I gave up. I just can't believe that in today's world that this information is so hard to find, not posted on anywhere or known by the employees, with a fairly limited menu. This used to be the best Panera in the Des Moines Area, but over the past year it has seriously gone downhill. Today, I waited 25 minutes for my food, and when I went to the counter to get it, they informed me they were out of the soup I had ordered. The replacement soup they gave me was cold and when I asked for a new serving, they told me they could heat it up in the microwave. The greens in my salad were soggy and just unappetizing. I can usually get a table to read a book or read my e-mail in mid morning. It is very busy for lunch. The building needs to be remodeled. It is showing its age and hard use. I generally have one of the soups for lunch. The sandwiches with chips have too many calories for me for one meal. I need to watch my weight.
