We volunteered for special Olympics there and they make the best sandwiches definitely recommend

My sister and I came to visit my mother in Des Moines and we decided we wanted Jersey Mikes for dinner. Tonight has been my worst experience by far at any food place I have ever been to. We placed our order through the app as of 5:16pm. It said it would be ready by 5:30pm. I know it takes longer to make gluten free sandwiches because they have to clean the grill so I did not arrive until 5:45pm to pick up my food. When I got there hardly any customers were in the store. 2 people were in line to order and 2 people were standing waiting for doordash. I ended up waiting a few moments before asking if my order was ready around 5:50pm. They checked and found it had not even been started yet and that it was quite a few tickets behind the others for the grill. I was told it would be about 10 minutes by the kid who was working the register. The kid then went to check if he had told me correct by the guy on the grill. The guy went to check my ticket and started laughing saying, "yeah good luck with that. It's got gluten free. Its gonna be awhile." He then proceeded to make 8 sandwiches and none of them were mine. I had doordash drivers and other online pickup customers come in after me who received there food before me. I watched the guy on the grill move tickets that were behind mine forward. Someone obviously made a conscious decision not to fill my order in a timely manner because of the gluten free sandwiches. At 6:05pm I watched the guy on the grill finally start cleaning the grill. By 6:10pm he started making 2 gluten free sandwiches. And did not pay attention to the fact that #65 was not supposed to have jalepenos and yet seem to have a ton of them on the sandwich. By 6:21pm all sandwiches were done. The manager (Jasmine) tried to hand a cookie off to me and another customer who had been waiting almost as long as me. But considering I cannot eat it nor does that make up for waiting nearly an hour from the time my food was supposed to be ready I did not want it. The manager seemed to have a chip on her shoulder and kept throwing hateful looks towards my mother and me after we would not accept her offer. She then went back behind the counter pulled out her phone, messed with it for a bit then pulled some vouchers out. She offered us 2 of them for our 3 sandwiches. My mother would have accepted it as is if there would have been an apology attached with it. There was not. She thought it was more reasonable to have 3 vouchers since our order was for 3 sandwiches and the manager disagreed. All sandwiches were put in the same bag. I specifically put special instructions on my order for the gluten free sandwiches to be put in a seperate bag. I have never had any trouble with this at any other store. The manager said, "We don't do that." I explained that I have asked at other stores and had no problem. I was then told by the manager "Well you don't have to come here. You can go to another store. And you can leave." I feel like this was a personal attack and discriminatory against me due to my food allergies and I do not appreciate it. I was not asking for anything special just for the considerations that I know are in place by this company. Jersey Mike's as a company has practices in place to accommodate customers with food allergies but this employee seems to have decided to not provide your typical great service because of it. read more

Food is great, the service is great but the work environment is not so great, from the outside looking in and this is just perception and an opinion, but leadership starts with management. Lead by example, when you tear down or talk down to employees in front of the people you're serving loud enough that everyone can hear it will likely result in high attrition rates. When I think about leadership I think of where did I begin and look at me now, everyone starts from the ground up. When you treat employees as peers but still have a firm hand as a manager you will reach your employees and empower them to be better. Again, great food and great service, but the atmosphere could use some help. read more

I was actually surprised by how many people were there!! The parking lot is set up oddly so the front always looks empty, but truth is, they park on the side or behind the building! Who knew. When I think of a sub sandwich, this is the sub I'm talking about. One that takes both hands to pick up, full of meat and veggies and just the right soak of vinegar and oil! Yum. Seriously awful ownership and management. I've been to this location one too many times over the past years and I'll never return after reading the recent reviews. I would eat here weekly as I'm on the road for work. Honestly, I'll probably stop eating JM all together, assuming the locations in the area are owned/operated by the same franchise.. I was planning to stop in today but turned myself around after checking the recent reviews, more employees fired but i'm glad to see retaliation. To hear staff cant get Gluten free sandwiches made to accommodate an ALLERGY.. shows management is lacking proper training in customer service. Some notes from the past years, if management gives a damn: I've hardly seen the same employees more than 4 or 5 times in recent months. Rotating doors are a clear sign of a failing business model. There were a few that I saw working for a year+ but that was rare - I bet they were treated like dirt and left.. I'm assuming your spending more on hiring fees annually then 80% of fast food in the area, maybe HR needs fired. There is a FANTASTIC subway just up the road - in Johnston, that has had the same staff for quite awhile and it's always smiles. I haven't seen the "GM" in awhile, what happened there? Does the store even have a "GM" anymore, no one seems to know.. Just the Assistant and some guy from corporate or the bottom rung franchise partner... Must not have a lot of experience with the current turn of events. Give the job to that red haired girl, she was always around and killing it! **STAY AWAY IN THE SUMMER!! That will always stick in my mind. The store is on par with a sweatshop and has been for the past few summers. Its gross to see the employees sweating on the food - not their fault. Great sized sub (got the turkey provolone) and was very fresh. The service was friendly even in their busiest of days- their charity event.

EVERY time I come here there's an issue management has to call me and apologize for. Look at how many awesome reviews local businesses have on my profile; I do not look for fire and only report on problems. This jersey mikes, whether it is crappy service, or the apps down, or today the internet AND app is down, and I go to get my rewards sub that I've earned, and they don't give it to me because they don't have it together. They were making my sub, went to ring it in, and told me no. Why wouldn't they just give me the sub knowing it's going to be waste or a bad review? It's the people skills. The manager doesn't feel appropriate making discretionary decisions and that's probably a function of unrealistic goals set by the franchisee. I'm done here. Please don't call and offer me a free sub. Get this franchisee out of here. read more

Given the shape of the World these days, I'm really glad I love Jersey MIke's sandwiches as much as I do. I'm especially fond of them when they're made "Mike's Way" :-) Mike's is unquestionably one of my top five sandwich places; it's tough to find sandwiches that are a whole lot better than what they make here. The prices are very reasonable too. Tip: You can usually get twice the quantity at Mike's for the same price you'll pay at Subway, and the sandwiches here are better every time! If you, like me, are a person who loves a good sandwich then you owe it to yourself to try Mike's at least once - so what are you waiting for!? ;-) read more

Not fair to their employees! They fired 3 employees without warning for taking food SCRAPS home when they were going to throw them into the garbage. 0/10 working environment, 0/10 management, 0/10 fairness to their employees. they don't answer the phone AT ALL. I literally just wanted my DoorDash sandwich toasted and I called 6 times, they answered on the 7th call & immediately put me on hold for 30 min & then hung up. It's giving lazy & poor costumer service.. read more

Sandwich was prepared correctly, but service pales in comparison to the Ankeny store. I've never once had an employee say a single word to me on multiple pickups. I used to tip in the app, but if they're not going to do the bare minimum of saying thank you, I'll save my dollars for employees who do. read more

Wow! Awesome Philly! The bread is perfect, crusty outside and soft inside. There's a good amount of meat in this sub. Tastes really good with melty cheese! Clean. Family friendly. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Right across from Merle Hay Mall on Merle Hay Road. Worth stopping by! Especially on cold windy days. These subs are amazing. Store is clean, staff is real friendly, easy to order. Mikes way is the only way. Fast, it's real fast. Using the app you can even put in a pick-up order and they'll have it waiting on a bakers rack right inside the door, with your name on it. Bread (I always get wheat) is soft on the inside with a crunchy crust on the outside. Seriously, if it wasn't for them being lax on social distancing AND no one saying anything to the guy in front of me not wearing a mask (there is actually a nice way that isn't confrontational), it would've been 5 stars. I have zero interest in stepping forward to give my order with an unmasked stranger standing there. I'm not political about this, but I don't see smoking allowed. "Sir, you can not smoke here" is no different than "Sir, you must have a mask to be in here". On the bright side, I'll use their pick-up from the app next time! It's delish! read more

Wow, I had no idea there was a Jersey Mike's on Merle Hay. I knew about the location in WDM, but never went because it's so far out of the way. I was so glad to have this location close, so I could finally try their gluten-free sub! I ordered a Regular GF #8 Club Sub, no cheese, Mike's Way, and it was LEGIT. It was made exactly how I needed it to be. There was an excess of oil, honestly, but that oil/vinegar/onion combination was fantastic. I love that they nearly shred their lettuce and onions! Absolutely delicious. My SO had the tuna, and felt the exact same. This is truly not a complaint, but I was not expecting so much sandwich for the price!! I could barely eat half. The GF bread can get a little dry (par for the course, really), but getting the sandwich 'Mikes Way' helped keep all that bread from crumbling! I've saved the rest for leftovers this afternoon, and I'm fully expecting to enjoy it just as much. We will definitely be back. If you have never had Jersey Mike's, or if you are gluten-free like me and just want a normal sandwich for once, you should absolutely give this location a shot! read more

Great sandwiches, but not "fast-casual" if you order a hot sub so stick to the cold ones. Every time I have ordered a hot sandwich the cooks move at a glacial pace and I am sitting there for 15 minutes. I even tried ordering one an hour ahead of time. Ordered a 3rd time and I am well pleased. There was a slight hiccup but the young lady I talked to last night, despite my frustration, she made it all go away. You all know how I love Jersey Mike's. I eat from there at least once a week. My fiancé brought lunch to my work today and this is what it looks like. Normally it comescut in half but I cut it myself today. Boo hoo. I know, I know. What gets me is the top and bottom portions of the bun. As you can see, there is barely any bottom bun and it fell right off when I picked up my sammy. Come on, guys! I know you are better than this! It's alright. As I write this they were offering half off any sandwich. I have had the Big Kahuna cheese steak sub regular + added bacon and a Buffalo Chicken regular wrap. The wrap is much worse than the sandwich, don't get this. The Big Kahuna was overwhelmed by the spicy taste of jalapenos and the sauce, so it was pointless to add bacon. I understand this isn't something the franchise owner has any say in, but the app isn't great. You can't really customize. The only options appear to be add bacon, cheese, and meat. Corporate needs to make a better app. Let me add jalapenos if I want. Let me add more buffalo sauce. Also, it appears the app tells you your sandwich won't be ready for 30 mins, an absurd amount of time. If you arrive at the time the app tells you it is ready, you will have a very cold sandwich. Overall I'm satisfied with what I got, go for the sandwich over any wrap. It would be preposterous to pay twice as much. read more

Food way too over priced. Better value is at Subway. Their 6 inch subs (regular) are between 6.95-8.95. Most places the 12 inch is that price. No choice of cheese or add-ons. Also, this was our first and last visit. My wife got the Supreme Club. They started making it and stopped. They went on to wait on other customers and make their subs. Her sub almost got thrown away. 3 people after us got their subs before her's was finished. I got the meatball sub. It was the worst meatball sub I have ever had anywhere. The sauce had a sick taste and the meatballs seemed mostly breading. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have eaten here maybe 12 times and I will say I think they are way better than Subway or Blimp's. It's always been a clean place and kitchen and dinning is always clean. The kind of restaurant you might of seen years ago that you don't usually see today. The food is always fresh and will adjust any of the sandwiches how you want them. I have had to wait a couple of times for the bread to make the sandwich but only maybe 5mins. I am just impressed to how nice of a restaurant it is. I never leave a review to anything but this I had to comment immediately and get five stars. Whoever was in the kitchen really knew how to put this Famous Philly together. From the bread, that didn't break or split the entire time, to the steak that was juicy and moist, the cheese that was that was creamy, to the bite from the red peppers. My husband and I love jersey mikes. We always get get service and the food is great quality and quantity. This time was no exception. We each had a free reg sub and 22oz drink for our bdays. The coupons were giving the man at the counter issues. He calmly called his boss over for assistance and was able to get them to work fairly quickly. They were slammed as it was 12:30 on a Tuesday. I love the food here but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I love the hot subs and my wife loves the cold subs. The first time we went to JM was during a busy Sunday morning. There seemed to be adequate staff but no organization. The manager was rude to the customers in front of us and seemed to lack basic customer service skills. I was willing to write off this experience because I loved how my food tasted and I know things get busy/crazy sometimes. Since then I have been back many times because of the food. However, over half of the times my order is made incorrectly, even when I request little to no customization. I started ordering online, hoping the errors would decrease since my order would be printed out for them to make. The error rate has still been over half of the time. Sad to have to give such a poor rating but consistently poor execution deserves a poor grade. read more
