My go to is the half Southwest Chile Lime Ranch Salad with chicken and it comes with chicken, romaine, arugula, adobo corn blend, quinoa tomato sofrito blend, fresh cilantro, feta, avocado, and tortilla strips. However today I ordered on the Panera app and asked for no feta or tortilla strips. Instead I picked up my salad with nothing but cheese, chicken and lettuce. I was disappointed. I called and Crystal immediately offered a full refund and delivered me the correct order. Wow I did not expect that. I was so amazed by the amazing customer service I received. I'm SO happy that they added the stations for self ordering. Waiting in line to get my order in has been such a pain spot because it took FOREVER. I'm conflicted about Panera Bread. First, the good. I love the baked goods. Sure, their bagels aren't exactly authentic, but they taste good. And the cream cheese is much better than your typical philadelphia individual portion sized tub. I like their baguettes and other breads - very solid. Panera's cookies are great too. I also like the soups and salads. And don't tell anyone, but I also dig the mac n cheese. The place isn't perfect though. On the "could use improvement side", the sandwiches are uninspired, the pricing is high for what you get and at this particular location, the management hasn't always been perfect in my opinion. I bought a bagel with cream cheese at Panera one morning last week - the total was $2.49. Get this, it was $0.99 for the bagel and $1.50 for the tiny tub of cream cheese. Also, this Panera seems to run out of breads all the time, in my experience, and I've been turned away several times when I showed up looking for a loaf of ciabatta, for example. I've seen a long line at the register with other staff milling about in the background. And my wife has complained at various times about their wi-fi being out, with the manager apparently not caring at all and claiming to be powerless about fixing it. I like Panera but I tend to stick to the baked goods to-go. read more

We went in on a Tuesday morning around 8 AM to pick up 3 bagels and ended up walking out with a bakers dozen. It appears as though I walked in on the right day! Tuesdays are $7.99 bakers dozen bagels (SCORE!). Had we bought 3 bagels, we would have spent around $6 (give or take some change), so it made more sense to get 13, eat 3 and freeze or give away the rest! That was a big plus for us. The (kinda-sorta)down side was not the carbs but the fact that we just stood around while staffed whizzed right past us a few times and even made eye contact but no one asked if we were ready or needed help.. it's kind of a big deal but also in the same hand- it wasn't. I wasn't in a rush at all and can understand that perhaps they were distracted or something was going on (benefit of the doubt her). Anyhow, when we were attended to, they were nice as could be, fast and told me about the better bagel deal than what I was originally going to get. So yay to deals! read more

Panera, it's pretty good. I go to Panera only when I need to use free WiFi when I am killing time between work appts. Today, my first appt of the day forgot about our meeting so I had an hour to kill. So I took myself to breakfast at Panera to get some work done while I waited. I got the Turkey Sausage Power Breakfast Sandwich or whatever. I added Avocado. It was a complete MESS to eat. I posted a pic of this. Right when he brought it to my table (which I had to clean myself, it was dirty, so I got some napkins from the front counter. Ugh) it was already falling apart. The egg white and sausage seem to be somewhat mixed together? I dont' know. It was super messy and irritating to eat. I am not there with my 3 dirty little kids, I am not retired...I am dressed in business attire and have to see clients later. So a super messy meal is not happy for me. Anyway, it tasted good. And pretty much everything I have had there, ever, has tasted good. I typically get sandwich and salad, all are tasty from recollection, and the free WiFi is a bonus. I have to go to Starbucks often for this freebie, so it's nice to have alternatives. read more

Mac & Cheese. Some of the best around using Vermont white Cheddar, white American cheese blended with a little cream and butter. Is something everyone should get every time they come here, that is unless your like these kids that study here for the wifi like a Starbucks. I used to love their bread, but have learned that it is very good, but not great. I've found some M/P show operations that do artisanal to the next level. The whole mass production of Panera has soured its reputation in my book. Oh I'll still come here for the mac & cheese and eat a sandwich while I'm there, but it's part of growing up. I'll still look upon Panera fondly, but when you get your meat from a salumeria and bread from an artisan baker places like Panera fall from favor a little. Parking lot sucks, but it's mostly the terrible drivers trying to navigate a bar lot. read more

Popped in for a quick bite to eat while running errands. We ordered two 2 meal deals. One was a sandwich and broccoli soup, the other was the Mediterranean salad with half a BBq turkey sandwich that came folded in a pita type bread. The guy at the counter recommended the salad. The sandwich I ordered had a pic at the front and it looked good, so I choose that one. Really yummy. I wish I could remember what it had on it! I posted pics of everything. My friend loved the soup, it comes in a very small bowl and the sandwiches are halved. I devoured my salad and brought the sandwich home and had it the next day. The only thing I don't like is that when you order anything special (ie dressing on the side) they never get it right. But that being said, not bad for a quick stop and some decently healthy food. read more

Kids and I love love the tomato soup. Fresh tomato pieces, and very filling. Actually, their soups areal Rey fresh and tasty. Sandwiches a little pricey, but gourmet style and huge. I usually try one of the salads, which are pretty small, but welcome to normal, healthier portions compared to other places. The kids meals are decent sized,with organic yogurt, bread, drink, and not badly priced. read more

I feel like Panera has to have better options than what I ordered but I was greatly unimpressed with my sandwich. I chose the Smokehouse Turkey Panini and I suppose I should have figured that it featured smoked turkey given the name but I wasn't prepared for it. I'm not a big fan of smoked meats and would have preferred an oven roasted turkey instead. The meat didn't even look like turkey and more closely resembled ham, which I don't eat at all. I'm hoping it was just the smoked factor that made it look like ham and not that it actually was. I asked the cashier what else came on the sandwich and he mentioned bacon (which I asked to be removed) and mustard. What he didn't tell me was that it wasn't normal mustard but instead a sundried tomato mustard that I found to be too overwhelming. I also was unaware that the sandwich included cheddar cheese (I'm more of a swiss fan). My suggestion to Panera would be to display all their sandwich ingredients so people aren't taken by surprise as much as I was. I've been to Panera before and know that they make food that is much better than this and that's why I'm willing to give them three stars still. First off, love Panera and I have had great experiences at other locations. I've also been going to this solana beach location since it opened. But today, this restaurant seems very mismanaged. The lady employee plating our meals was wearing a mask that only covered her bottom lip and had maybe the worst attitude of them all. My food pager vibrated and when I went up to the counter they said it was an accident and it wasn't ready yet, then after waiting for my meal my pager never went off again and I asked for an update and they said someone took it. Over all the food and drinks was fine and I'll still go to other locations but never again to solana beach. read more

Have gone to this Panera for years and never had any complaints. Went for the first time today in several months after 1 p.m. when it was slow. About to order when a woman complained to the cashier that her coffee was full of coffee grounds. Had to wait while that was corrected. Cashier apologized for the wait and took my order, which was soup, a chicken green goddess caprese sandwich and a drink. Order came to $23.02. I asked if she could take a fifty, to which she replied no problem. She gave me $18 and some cents change. Told her that was not correct change. She agreed after using her calculator, and gave me the additional $7.00. Got my food and finally found a table that was only slightly dirty. Sandwich had no chicken in it, and noticed my receipt said my order total was $19, not $23. Took sandwich back to food prep. I was told I paid for sandwich without chicken. Cashier said she put in the "regular" caprese sandwich in the register instead of the chicken. Also said my receipt was only $19 because she charged my drink separately, even though food prep told me it was cause I had no chicken. Food prep added chicken to my sandwich, but by that time I was done after the whole bothersome experience. Good luck keeping your customers, Panera! read more

I stopped in for a quick lunch. I got the chicken salad sandwich and an apple. Sandwich was just so so,lots of lettuce and tomato and a little chicken salad. The apple should never have been served. It had two large holes in it, clearly visible. All this for way too much money. This cove Panera bread is very nice, the people that work there seem to really like it. There is lots and lots of free parking. They also have fire place seating. What I really liked was there are no sticky tables and everything is clean. Even when the employee grabbed me a muffin he did all the right things to keep it clean. Very cool. Panera may have upgraded it's tea selection or this location is a flagship for tea they had several varieties fresh brewed with and without sugar. Very nice Panera - cheers. read more

Stopped here with a huge group of charity volunteers. I was amazed at how they not only kept track of everyone, but were so efficient with the orders, no matter what was ordered. I was so disappointed with the vegetable soup! They used to have one with big pieces of zucchini, carrots & various beans with a float of extra virgin olive oil on top. Now, I swear, it tastes like it came from a soup mix! So much for, " CLEAN FOOD," whatever the hell thats supposed to mean, anyway. I accompanied my order with the Fuji Apple Chicken Salad. It was very good. But instead of fresh "clean," apples, they were dried, crispy, on top. Overall, very disappointed with this experience. Just went for a quick lunch to Panera in Solana Beach. After waiting 15 minutes for a mozzarella & tomato sandwich I go to counter to enquire where it was and cook says oh yea I'll get on it. When it finally arrived, it seems they forgot to add the mozzarella cheese or there was a dire shortage. It was a bread and tomato sandwich. We have had some really nice meals at Panera, but todays experience was horrific. My daughter walked into Panera her happy, healthy usual self, hungry because she hadn't eaten for hours - but she was feeling good. She had the chicken noodle soup for lunch and a bagel. Half an hour later she started to feel nauseous, and she turned very pale. About 90 minutes later she started throwing up, and has been very sick and experiencing sharp stomach pains since about 3pm (it's now almost 10pm). And the really sad part, she had to miss a school dance tonight that she was so looking forward to, and she volunteers for Conservation Corps at the Safari Park and she is devastated she won't be able to go to that tomorrow morning, all because she ate Panera Chicken Noodle Soup for lunch. I called Panera to tell them that I think their chicken soup may be bad because my daughter was really ill and hadn't really eaten anything else today. (I was hoping to prevent another poor soul from becoming violently ill). Instead of showing any concern for my daughter or any of the other customers who may have eaten the soup, the man who answered the phone was very defensive and immediately said that no-one else had complained and she must have gotten sick from somewhere else. He took my name and number and said the manager would contact me again if anyone else complained. I could be wrong, but I really believe she got sick from the soup since it was all she ate and no-one else in our party had the chicken noodle soup, and we are all fine. Regardless, the Panera representative answering the phone still could have been polite and perhaps even shown a tiny bit of (even faked) concern by saying something like "I hope your daughter feels better soon", which he could have done without admitting any "fault" on Panera's side. Instead he was rude, defensive and uncaring, and so he chased us, loyal customers for years, away because I will not go there again - not because of the bad food experience, but because of the callous way my call was handled. read more

Over it. In spite of the fact that my daughters LOVE this broccoli cheese soup, particularly in the bread bowls, I have lost count of how many times these guys have screwed up orders. Typically, it's a pick up order, that I"m rushing to grab on my way home. The first handful of times, it was something simple (unless you're a young girl who had her heart set on a bread bowl instead of a to-go cup), and not worth a return trip/call. But when this became the norm (either the bread bowls missing, or the additional dressing you'd ordered), they start to add up. I've never been the type to inspect a to-go bag when it's handed to me. I've erred on the side of trusting that the order has been put together with care, so it was awkward for me when I had to start pulling stuff out the bag to confirm contents. I felt like "that guy". Trouble is, in most cases, there was something missing or wrong. Fast forward to last night, my oldest daughter's birthday. She gets to pick the place for dinner, and confidently blurts out "Panera!" As we're planning to dine on premise, my wife and I figure, "how bad can it be?" Well, apparently, the problem is not limited to take-out. I'll stipulate, my wife's orders can be a bit of a hassle. She's pretty particular, and had ordered a salad without the cheese, and with the chicken warmed up. She also subbed chips for the bread. When our plates arrived, the wife's salad was not right (though it had been rung up correctly), and our birthday girl's bread bowl of broccoli cheese soup was missing. Two more attempts at getting the salad right, and our food runner apologetically delivered--explaining that they would comp the salad. Took my wife and daughter 10 minutes to catch up with the rest of the family, meanwhile, no visit to the table by anyone, and no refund issued. Finally got up to inquire about the refund on the salad, and when I finally got to speak to the floor manager, it was as if she'd not heard a word about it. Not the end of the world, by any means, but it's clear to me that the Panera folks have not solved what appears to be a pretty prevalent problem. Hire an expediter. You will more than recoup the increased labor cost by not remaking items, and/or losing repeat business. read more

I love the breakfast souffles! It's part croissant, part quiche, and pure yumminess! Free wi-fi makes me loiter here all day long; especially on a warm sunny day but I'm here even on June gloom days where I get free re-fills on coffee all day (and free soy milk)! I sometimes get a bag of the mini-cookies for clients (that way they can share with their co-workers). I really like also that Panera has a stand with free samples while you wait in line...I tried their rye mini-loaf and it's a staple at home now. It has a chewiness to it and is the perfect size to finish within a week. they slice it thin or thick to your preference, and since it's a mini-loaf it is the perfect size for toast in the morning or bruschetta while you're making dinner at home. read more

I normally wouldn't rate a place like Panera... but I go here almost every morning for a cup of coffee and a quiet place to study. Sometimes I get free coffee! There's free WiFi and no lines for free coffee refills. The food is good but I think it's a little overpriced if you just order take out. You're paying more for the service and ambiance. Oh, you can buy fresh bread here (it's cheaper than Von's or Ralph's). They'll slice it for you. And I think they are big on social responsibility 0 they give away their food at the end of the day. read more

At this Panera bread location I was greeted by some friendly cashiers. One of them I believe was named jack and he was very helpful in assisting me in my order. I was in between the Mac n cheese and the broccoli cheddar soup and he assured me that the broccoli cheddar soup would better fit my palette. I was convinced. I absolutely loved it. I have to say if you come in for a bowl of soup and drink water it is a $7 lunch that is pretty filling and a bargain. Two people with drinks, one bowl of soup and pick 2 quickly adds up to $30. Lots of lunching ladies in groups. It is a nice menu for variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. The staff here in Solana Beach are very nice. read more
