Since I worked in Richmond 7 or 8 years ago this location has moved and I must say I love the upgrade, easer parking and kiosk ordering. I've been here several times over the last few months and service has always been good. I am a weirdo and I like cream cheese with my baguette, so this does not always land on my plate when I order soup. But they always are quick to fix the issue. We like Panera because it's consistently a positive dining experience and we know exactly what we're getting. This week was unfortunately an exception to that. The soufflé I ordered was sold out, so they prepped a different kind in case I wanted, which was nice. Except the crust it was burnt and the filling had separated, which was super unpleasant. I then asked if since they had hot tea, can I get a tea latte with Splenda, which was answered in the affirmative. Except, they forgot the tea and the latte and instead I received vaguely bitter hot water. As a national chain that makes soup, salad, and sandwiches, Panera should be predictable and easy. This location breaks the rule. First, the kiosk. I typed two Pick2 orders into the kiosk with what seemed like 30 screens, only to have the credit card reader fail at taking my payment. Then, Adam at the understaffed counter was less than courteous. He informed me that tuna salad doesn't come on croissant.. it's a dessert pastry. Hmm. Every other Panera is able to do that. The location is directly off of highway I-75 so it is extremely convenient for dropping in for a coffee and restroom break when traveling! The Panera Bread dark roast coffee is excellent! It is nice that you get to pour your own coffee so you can fill it to whatever level you like! I've been here many times and the food was usually good and the employees usually friendly but nothing kills your opinion of a place by being treated bad by one person. I'm usually an in restaurant person but this day I had my German shepherd with me, so I went drive through and was in a hurry so I just wanted a coffee. I'm a paid subscriber to the sip club so I figure why not use that instead of paying for Starbucks. Placed my order and pulled around- the girl hands me my coffee and looks at me like I was a homeless person and doesn't say a word. Not even thank you after I thanked her. This is a newer store and I love the new decor and layout. My mother in law and I stopped in during a trip to Gatlinburg to grab a quick bite. Just off I-75, but not easy to find; exit ramp signage says 1/2 mile off freeway, but it is about a 1/4 mile to where you have to turn into the outdoor mall and then go past the Olive Garden. No signage off Barnes Mill Road telling you to turn to north. Cashier not the friendliest. Food typical Panera - tasty and feels like it is better for you. I tried the Baja Grain Bowl with chicken ($10.19) - second time I've had this and I felt like this one had a lot more beans. Easy ordering process but I ordered to the wrong location. My fault but the location I thought I had ordered from said to call the first one and just cancel the order. It wouldn't be a problem, that they would refund my money. I called for over an hour, no one ever answered the phone. I love Panera but this was annoying. Panera is a reliable go-to for fast, casual dining with healthy options and nice baked goods. I sometimes think of this restaurant as a satellite office since it's a good place to work remotely or study. Good coffee and pastries never hurt. I like their salad and their French onion soup is delicious. They now also have several varieties of iced tea and frescas. But it's hard to leave without dropping $10-12 on a meal (you pick 2 + a drink and dessert brings you close to $15). That makes it close to the price of a sit down restaurant; simply overpriced in my book. But on the other hand, you know what your getting. Never a surprise. You can stay all day if you're inclined.
