This wasn't good, I'm sorry. I've been wanting to try this place for months and came out of it disappointed. I ordered pick-up. I asked for General Tso's chicken with egg drop soup and crab rangoons. Instead, I got chicken with a hint of General Tso's sauce, thick unsalted gruel, and a wonton filled with overly saccharine crab sludge. The rice was good, at least. There wasn't enough sauce to the General Tso's chicken, but I'll give them a star for it being cooked well. I took two sips of my "soup" and had to put it back in the bag. I'd go here again if I ever get the craving, but honestly, Thai Smile makes better rangoons. I really wanted to give Tsing Tao a chance but I came out of it really disappointed. One my favorite restaurants of all time thanks to my college experience. It's changed it's looks to be more modern or the post few years and personally i miss the old school dine in look and feel it had before.. BUT the food is just as good as i remember it!!!!! Although there is no place to stay at the restaurant to eat, it's still great food. The menu is pretty huge, and they offer all of the typical meals too. But you have to go inside a tiny front door area (big enough for one person to stand inside), pay through a tiny hole, and they get your food to you. They are always very fast with the time quotes, to come get your food. My only issue is that every time I order to-go food, when I go to pick up the meals, there's always questionable people just hanging out in the parking lot. read more

Great local place. I used to go on my lunch breaks when I worked nearby and get the chicken with vegetables. It was always delicious, and I never tired of it. Friendly staff as well. If you have a cold, their hot and sour soup is the tastiest way to feel better! Highly recommend. Their delivery folks are friendly as well. Oh and definitely try the sugar biscuits for an indulgent dessert. I'm glad Richmond has this fantastic little hole in the wall! =) read more

The food was about as bad as the lady owner who runs the place. Business owners of restaurants downtown Richmond treat their customers like toilets. Which is funny because your business can't survive without them. People must like abuse because they were quite busy, I mainly think people put up with it because the lack of options for Chinese food in rural Kentucky. Really bad customer service! When I got home was not what i ordered. The food they sent looked horrible. Called back and they said I could bring back next day since it was late. Next day the same lady said no she could credit my card, just to bad. Would never go there again and would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

When the food is good, it is great. You can tell when they just cooked it. But I think they reheat food that had been cooked earlier, hence the food can be not ... so great. The last two visits, the food was fantastic, and I'm giving it 4 stars. Plus, THE only chinese place that delivers. Egg rolls (fresh) are amazing! Crab ragoons are always tasty. Tsing Tao has been one of my favorites in town for years. First place that I ever tried Chinese food. The Crab Rangoon is excellent and the General Tso's is extra spicy. Also, they have really good sweet and sour and the beef fried rice is excellent. The food is always delivered hot and it is not too costly. I will readily admit that I'm a little hot as I write this review, but I think that it clearly illustrates the lack of service culture that exists at this restaurant. We order from Tsing Tao every month or two, whenever the craving for Chinese hits. They have some really acceptable food, but that is not why this is a 1 star review. It's not great Chinese food, but it is probably the best and most consistent in Madison county, especially for takeout. Eating in the restaurant is terrible. They have stuff stacked on all of the tables because I don't think that are used to having diners there, they live on more of a takeout/delivery crowd. My most recent order, yesterday, was taken in the same fashion it always is. The lady who answers the phone is brusque and efficient, which is fine. It was ready on time and I picked it up with the normal no flourishes style I have come to expect here. Problem is, since the bag is sealed when you get it, that I didn't inspect it until I got home. They left a key part of a dish out. Now, it's not always that big of a deal to get part of your order left out, but when you have family members who order certain dishes because that is all they will eat from a restaurant, it is important in the context of that meal for that item to be constructed right. It wasn't, so I called to get the situation resolved. After explaining the situation, I requested that they deliver the missing part of my meal to me. I gave them my address and then was put on hold. I was told they couldn't find my street on a map, which I believe since the street name I have her was not the one repeated back to me. I tried explaining that but she asked how far away from the restaurant it was. We are 6 miles from the restaurant I explained, right off the road that they are located. I was told that they have one driver and it was too far away for them to deliver. I won't bore with the details, but after some back and forth, I was offered 10% off an order or I could return to pick it up. I explained that 10% off a future order wouldn't be comparable to the cost of the meal that they didn't properly prepare. That didn't seem to matter, so after some additional discussion I ended my call with them. I won't eat at Tsing Tao again. I will not do business with a restaurant who will not correct a mistake they made without it being the customer's responsibility to take action. I understand that level of service at fast food places, but at a business that relies on delivery/take out, it isn't acceptable to me. Your mileage may vary, but to me, it's not about just what a business does when things go right, it's what they do when there is a service failure that matters as well. Best Chinese food in Richmond. It's not fancy, not innovative, not particularly exciting. What it is: consistent, well seasoned, and solid on the tried and true standards of the American Chinese menu. My favorites include the beef and broccoli, lo mein, and General Tso's chicken. The staff is efficient and the small dining room is always clean. If you are going to eat Chinese food in Richmond , this is the place I'd recommend. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped through on our way home from vacation and were so pleasantly surprised by this place. It doesn't look like much but the food is outstanding and the service prompt and friendly. Dez took care of us and was so helpful and kind. Although she was very busy she took quite a bit of time to tell us about the area and was on top of things for sure. I had General Tso's and my girlfriend had the Mongolian Beef. We both ordered them extra spicy and found them to be perfectly hot and very flavorful. We will make it a point to plan any future trips through or to KY around a dinner at Tsing Tao. read more

Our food was hot upon delivery. The delivery guy was really nice, courteous. The honey chicken was kind of soggy, but the sesame chicken was delicious, the chicken fried rice was tasty has large chunks of chicken. The egg rolls were on the small side but cooked just right. The crab ragoon was very good, the best we've had in Richmond. The doughnuts were a perf. Dessert Highly recommend. Best delivered Chinese food we've had in Richmond. You will not be disappointed. Honestly, everyone said to eat here although its really the only fast Chinese take out there is in Richmond. I called in my order for pork fried rice and 2 egg rolls and they said it would be ready in 10 minutes which is a decent time although the order really wasnt complicated. The location doesnt have the best parking area available so you may have to walk a bit to get to the restaurant. After my first bite of the pork fried rice I had to douse it with soy sauce as it had absolutely no flavor to it whatsoever. Probably about 4 or 5 packs is what I ended up using spin could taste something. The pork egg rolls I got werent bad, def hot and fresh but again lacking in the flavor department. I asked for sweet n sour sauce but they dont carry that as they said they have me duck sauce to use (mrs dash has more taste than duck sauce). If you just have to have Chinese food then I guess you could order here but I think I'd rather go eat the buffet versus ordering from here again read more

Their food is pretty good, sometimes dry but for the most part, I have no complaints about their food. My biggest complaint with them would be their cost/delivery/customer service. For example: For my job, I move around - one day they charged me the normal $1 deliver fee (no big deal) and the next time I ordered a quarter mile down the road, they want to charge me $4 for delivery because it was too far. The delivery driver complains to me that he is driving a truck because his car broke down and doesn't want to drive that far. Example 2: I work in remote areas at times so the availability of a fork is not always there. They delivered my Generals Chicken without utencils (which normally come with the food). I immediately called them and asked for the driver to come back, she said he would. An hour later, they called me back asking if I still needed a fork. Obviously by that time, I made do without it. Overall, their food quality is hit or miss, their customer service often lacks, but when it's good...it's good. read more

This is a good place for the average college student to order food on a budget. It's not incredibly expensive, and their hours are good. It has the generic Americanized Chinese food, and it's not bad, though not spectacular. The only thing i don't necessarily enjoy is the fried rice, because it's on the dry side. Stayed in a hotel nearby, and the local vet that i went to suggested this place. I was pleasantly surprised. Although it took a little bit for the food to get here, it was fresh, hot, and delicious. Well this was our first experience with any Chinese food in Richmond, and it wasn't the greatest. We ordered delivery, and it was late, like 45 minutes until closing, and they didn't even hesitate about taking our order and delivering which was awesome! For that reason customer service alone definitely 5 star worthy. The problem was the food itself. It was warm, the portions were good, but the food lacked flavor. It was all very tasteless. We ordered the Kung Po chicken hoping for some heat, nope, not there. The chicken lo mein was good, not great compared to other Chinese that I've had elsewhere. The fried rice was terrible, the shrimp were literally tasteless. Although I appreciate the efficient and attentive customer service, I don't think I'll order again. read more

Probably the best Chinese restaurant in Richmond, based on taste. (There are at least 3 others.) Standard Chinese menu, with generous portions. Very little parking, but there is not much seating, either. Most of their business is either delivery or carry-out. I recommend the combo plate for takeout.
