We've gone to half a dozen Paneras since coming to Portland. They're pretty much the same. Disappointing. The menu has shrunk, the prices have soared. Service has shrunk -- they have kiosks for ordering, so you don't have to deal with a human -- and they don't have to deal with you. And they no longer bring your order to the table. I am a Panera fanatic. I love Panera. The End. Okay -- not at all the end. This location is fairly easily accessible from the highway and typically has enough parking as it is in a strip mall type area. It is often busy but there is plenty of seating and they keep the location clean. The bathrooms and self service area are always clean and well maintained. The service at the counter is attentive and focused on guests. I have never had a problem here. The pastry case is right next to the register obviously -- but it is full during the day and then obviously they sell down throughout the day. When there are too many guests they call another cashier up so I am always grateful. This is the closest location from my work -- so I love to go here for lunch and they get it right and quick. I love the toasted baguettes. I love the green tea. I adore the Broccoli Cheddar soup. I love the sandwiches. I love the chicken bacon ranch flatbread. Definitely give it a try.. do a You Pick Two. It isn't cheap anymore truly -- prices are insane because of inflation but at least I am not eating a bunch of additives and the food is YUMMY! read more

Based on their seasonal Asian crunch salad I made my own creation - and here is my tip: Whenever a restaurant has an app I'll always use that to order since it gives you all the options. At Panera it's never cheap but you get your salad or sandwich the way you want it. And as a side of my "you take two" I'll had the seasonal Mexican street corn soup. I enjoy the food at Panera, it tastes good and is filling. I will periodically return. Cons: 1. They have a tendency to be out of items to make the item you want, including breads. This is true no matter what time you get there. 2. Service and table cleanup can vary. Most above average. 3. The number of people working there varies even during rush hour. Even with the negatives, their menu is tasty and enjoyable. Overall the place has been clean and personnel courteous and helpful. My 3 rating is a result over low stock of groceries to complete the menu item as advertised at times. Still, I feel you should try Panera. read more

I think a lot of the reviews are more based on Covid and whatnot. Because I've eaten at this location and my wife has been a few times and there's been no complaints. The food is consistent just like any other Panera Bread, the staff was friendly, and the place was clean. I mean there's not really much else you can ask for. I tried the grilled mac and cheese sandwich which is a newer item and it was super good. Pair it with the tomato soup. I don't go to Panera Bread all the time but it's definitely a good place for a cheap lunch. Pro tip: If you have an Amex Platinum card, they have a free six months of the Unlimited Sip Club which is basically free coffee every day. So if you like Panera Bread coffee and tea and you have an Amex Platinum, it's a good deal. read more

I'm a gig food delivery person. I had a pickup yesterday, Nov. 7th at the Tomahawk Dr. location. it was lunch hour and the staff was just slammed with inside orders, folks like me and online orders. I am a long time customer service professional and I know when it's exceptional. Every single member of the cook staff were the hardest working group I've ever seen. Not only that but they kept smiling, putting up orders and speaking to every customer with apologies for the wait. Not one person waiting was angry or appeared upset. This is my first time ever trying Panera Bread. I decided to keep it simple and try their 8.99 special which is a chicken bbq sandwich and soup. It also came with an apple. It looks good but found the sandwich very basic and you can tell the chicken either get microwaved or it sits in one of those metal buffet pans, either way the chicken was all soggy and there was barely any cheese nor bb sauce on it. The apple was cute but super small, at least it was fresh. Now for the soup, that was the best part of my meal. The place was clean, & the customer service was friendly. What bothers me is the bathrooms are locked, seriously? This is a restaurant, and you already have a security gaurd to keep out the homeless. It's one thing when it's a shop but not a restaurant. My father was out on his electric wheelchair when he ran into an electrical problem. He called me and said he was stuck in front of Panera, I called them and asked if they could check on him till I could get there. When I got there, they had pushed his chair inside and had given him a big glass of ice water. I am so grateful for the kindness they showed my father, and myself. I like this location and was happy when they brought it to Jantzen Beach. I have a special order that I order every single time and not all employees know how to ring it up. I was charged over $6 but when I complained, the manager was able to find the mistake and fix it so it worked out. The restaurant is clean and it has WiFi! (Simple meal to make) The location was filthy. We had to ask for clean utensils three times. Stopped in for a late lunch with my girlfriend before heading to our hotel a mile or so away. I had a free birthday pastry on my rewards card so I snagged a cinnamon roll because it looked very appealing. Along with that, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Flatbread and the Mediterranean Chicken Flatbread with an apple. Girlfriend got Mac n Cheese and a Grilled Cheese sandwich. Sadly, the cinnamon roll was a bit of a disappointment. It didn't taste that fresh, a sure sign it had been out a while. The inside was decent but about half of it lacked that brown sugar saturated cinnamon roll taste. My flatbreads weren't too bad, I really enjoyed the BBQ chicken one. But both of them were on the small side. And I understand that to make meals wholesome and healthy, you need to keep portions in control so you can't get a huge, over stuffed flatbread sandwich, but after eating my meal, I didn't feel full. The BBQ Chicken flatbread gets a 4.5/5 but the cinnamon roll and the other flatbread both get 3/5. My girlfriend absolutely LOVED the Mac n Cheese though! I took a bite of it and it was great; creamy level was through the roof! Panera is always a decent place to stop and eat, but I'd suggest either skipping the pastries or getting them earlier in the day so hopefully they would be fresher. Awful and disgusting. I came in with absolutely no one in front of me in line- the manager looked at me come in and then decided it was time to pull the drawer to close out that register. She yelled "be right back" over her shoulder and walked off. Five minutes later one of the employees working the cook counter came over and took my order. This was at 5pm on Sunday when they close at 9pm. Two out of six drink dispensers had "do not use" written on paper on them and taped to the dispenser- with liquid still in them. One of the six dispensers was empty and the green tea was not circulating. There were no lids for the medium drinks and the trash under the lids was overflowing- napkins were all over the floor. My food came out cold and sloppy. My son's mac and cheese was cold, and my French onion soup didn't have any croutons in it- it was also cold. The cheese didn't melt at all so you can tell it was applied when the soup was cold. Outside was filled with trash. Napkins, food, all kinds of stuff was strewn all over the patio. Despite my kid actually eating for once, I decided that the lack of basic cleanliness of this establishment and general lack of professional attitude from the staff lead me to believe that my risk of contracting food poisoning was too high- I didn't even want to see how bad the bathrooms were much less ask if employees are even washing their hands. Highly disappointing. This place needs a check in from the health department, I never would expect this from a Panera. If I didn't have my kid with me I'd speak with management or call in but I had a hungry and angry toddler to find food for. 0/10. Will not be back. read more

We're regulars here because we enjoy the quality of the food (when we can get it) and because it is a convenient place for me to meet my parents for breakfast every weekend. What all of us will agree is completely horrid is the customer service and the way they run the kitchen and keeping basic supplies on hand. We always arrive at 9:30 am which one would think would be breakfast time. Unfortunately, every single time we arrive they are out of the spinach and artichoke soufflé. This most recent time I even called ahead and requested that they please set aside two of these soufflés for us and they said they would. When we placed our order the incompetent cashier dropped one of them on the floor and informed us the other one was the wrong kind and would we like to order something else. No apology for fucking up, just a totally cavalier attitude about the whole mishap which just made me even more livid. So yeah, we ordered something else. Then we ordered our coffee which we wanted served in mugs and not paper cups. Again, just like every visit, the fucking mugs are being washed. How in the hell are you always out of mugs? I ordered two of the same items and they usually are fast at every location I've been to in the greater Portland metro area. Two words - Rapid Pickup! You order online their app, then waltz in the door, pass the line like damn royalty and leave. Or just walk in like a normal person, that's fine too. Seriously though, I love this feature. In about 10 minutes I can just walk in and grab my food and leave. Everything - even payment - is done in the app. Most of the times it's done early if not smack dab on time and correct as well. Plus, you can customize your choices in ways I would not have thought of. I have eaten here too - always clean, organized and usually pretty quick. But there is something about Panera that causes people to stare at the menu like they've never seen such a thing before. As someone who orders pretty much the same thing every time, it's annoying. Tried to go to this location TWICE around 7:40pm. There are staff inside, but the door is locked. I try to call and they intentionally do not answer the phone. Seems like this is a regular occurrence. I've worked in the food industry before and if the door says open until 8, you have to stay open.
