This is a tricky place to review, I've had lunch here before and the wait can be a little much given the model, but I wasn't in a time crunch so it didn't bother me like it would someone else. I recently had a catering order here like I've done before. With catering anything for a group of people the first thing to know is not everyone has the same preferences, some like mayo and others see it as the evil that it is, so when doing this I always make a point to ask for the sauces, mayo mustard ect, to be in the side, so they can make it how they like. This was not done and everything was on them which makes them soggy by the time they're eaten. I also had a sandwich that had all of the meat on the outside of the bread, making it a weird flatbread hybrid that was not very appealing. Most of the sandwiches were not in great shape when I opened the box, and considering I drive like my grandparents when there's food in the car, I know it wasn't due to transport. read more

My panini should be crisp but it was soggy..l can't even explain the chicken situation..it was like crumbs of leftover chicken. I posted a picture. It was sad to say the least. We travel frequently and sometimes, when on the road, stop at Panera where we usually find good food. However, this is the worst Panera we've ever been to. I ordered a deli chicken sandwich, but they didn't have deli meat, so instead, they gave me roast chicken, which was horrible chunks of chicken that did not belong on the sandwich. Additionally, they slathered a thick layer of yellow mustard on the bread. Who puts yellow mustard on turkey? Certainly not me. It was inedible. My wife order a cob salad, which was not a cob salad she was used to. It was a junk salad with lettuce core, no egg, chewy bacon bits, and a mini-amount of avocado. The food is always delicious but DO NOT RAPID PICK UP/CURBSIDE YOUR ORDER. Go inside and order or do the drive thru. Have been to this location multiple times and have done rapid pick up order 3 times. Every single time they forget at least one item. I always come here to pick up dinner for the family every once in a while. When I do the drive through takes longer and longer every time. From the looks of it they only have one persons working the drive up window which is always busy with many cars. It's always hit or miss. Never consistent on the sandwiches or the soup. The "manager" was of no help at all when I talked to her about her employees attitude and proceeded to take the employees side without even listening to what I had to say about the way i was treated by her employee. Your basic Panera Bread, but this one is on the North Side. I always go through the drive through or order online. Have not had many problems except the wait time on the drive through. On the other hand, there has been some issues with delivery. The delivery issues come down to the driver. I say this because anytime Jennifer is delivering all is good. Jennifer gets the order right and you will get napkins & utensils when she is delivering. On the other side of the spectrum you have the dumbass with the red little car. He is always a dollar short and a month late. I've stopped by this restaurant many times so I now know the routine. I always order the same two items and I know that I'll be waiting a long time for someone to remember to make my green passion smoothie. It's like there's a communication breakdown between the cashier and the kitchen. I've had to remind the people in the kitchen a couple of times that I ordered it. It is a total drag. The other overwhelming impression of this Panera is that the staff are always arguing amongst themselves- I've even heard a couple of shouting matches back there when I'm finally sitting eating my meal. There has to be some kind of management problem because the staff doesn't seem happy or motivated. Maybe some staff bonding activities or better training would help matters. Deserving of 3.5 but not 4 stars. A great and needed addition to the Berkeley neighborhood. It's what you would expect if you've ever been to a Panera anywhere else. I do really like the fact that the atmosphere is warm and cozy. Service is very friendly. Food-wise, Panera does a good job with their soups and most sandwiches are very good and fresh. I'm partial to sandwiches served on crusty bread over thick-sliced soft bread. Ingredients are very fresh but they are too skimpy on the bacon (Turkey/Bacon Bravo sandwich). read more

As a frequent customer at this location I very very rarely have a good experience here. Having worked in the food service industry for many years, I can honestly say this is by far the most poorly run business i have ever witnessed. 9 out of 10 times my order is not correct. The staff is incompetent (hate to say it) , disorganized, poorly trained and clueless. And the best is when it takes 5 people, 15 minutes, and three wrong orders later to deliver me an iced vanilla latte with a bad attitude. I asked for an over easy egg and cream cheese on the side. I didn't get an egg or cheese on the sandwich or the side of cream cheese. DO NOT GO ON A LUNCH BREAK! I should have read reviews before stopping here for lunch. I can't even believe how slow this place is. Wanted a simple half soup, half sandwich. Stopped here thinking it'd be a quick, simple lunch break. Oh my dear god it was painfully slow---30 minutes for the food to even come out. I spent the majority of the time contemplating just cancelling the order but kept thinking surely it can't be much longer. I finally had to ask them to see if I was anywhere close to being done, and at that time had to have it made to go and eat while driving back to work! Please don't waste your time going to this location. We had the worst customer service experience and are still trying to get this fixed. We made a large catering order online to have breakfast delivered to 50 Teachers, we spent A LOT of money on this order. The food was never delivered that morning, when we called and spoke to them, they told us they would work on getting the food to the school ASAP. They delivered half the food and told us they were on their way to deliver the 2nd half, that 2nd half never came. When we spoke to Marianne on the phone, she said they no longer did Catering services(even though we were still fully charged at this point, I never received any call or email prior to this mentioning that they couldn't take our Catering order). Plus, when we asked to speak to a Manager, Marianne said the Manager was out handling another Catering order, so she either lied about catering or lied about where her Boss was....She also told us the Manager didn't want to speak to us because they were cranky!! My Boss and I have called multiple times to try and speak with Emery(the Manager) since that day because we were told to handle this with Emery, and no one has answered our calls. We still have not gotten ANY refund for the amount of money we spent on that large Catering order. I have NEVER experienced such poor customer service like this. read more

First, the food - I personally have always had good food at this location. That is not the reason for this review or the one star. What would you give a restaurant that would block your exit from its parking lot or drive through and expect you to wait? I feel it necessary to warn customers that the company (Sygma/Sysco) that delivers the supplies for this location will block the only legal entrance/exit to the parking lot and drive through at this location, as well as taking up street parking spaces on 38th Avenue. So if you happen to be going here when they have a delivery, be prepared to: 1) Not find any close parking whatsoever 2) Be "trapped" in the parking lot or drive through until the delivery is finished if you are already there (good luck if you already have your food and it is now getting cold) There is an option besides being "trapped" - you can risk going the wrong way down the one way alley past the "Do not enter" sign and hope you don't get a ticket (I don't think cold food is a valid defense). Or hit someone in the alley who isn't expecting traffic to be going the wrong way - FWIW this is close to a local neighborhood school. Asking the driver to not block the driveway seems like an option, but they apparently don't care, and the Panera staff don't appear to have any clout with the delivery drivers in terms of making them care. So I guess they either want you to wait and have your food get cold, or want you to commit your own traffic infractions as well. While I can appreciate the need for a restaurant to receive food supplies, it is also quite important for a restaurant to allow customers to come and go promptly in their cars if the restaurant offers a parking lot and especially if they offer a drive through window (and maybe don't schedule deliveries for 7PM at night when plenty of customers are likely still coming and going). FWIW, the drive through and rear parking lot can be a nightmare even without an 18 wheeler making a delivery since the entrance/exit is the same narrow alleyway. Hopefully it won't take an accident in the alley due to this delivery practice (and associated civil lawsuits) for a better solution to this issue. read more

UPDATE: Got the same salad today that I always get. Substituted blue cheese for feta. They gave me HAVARTI cheese, and left off the bacon. Come on, Panera. I never have any problems with any other location. I love Panera, but this location is so hard to love. It's so near my work- I keep going back. Their employees are super nice, but my order is wrong EVERY single time. I don't even custom order anything- they just never put all of the things that are included in the salad on. I would appreciate my chicken cobb avocado salad with chicken on it! They are always great at correcting things, but I shouldn't have to go back in every time I visit. read more
