So, I went to Panera today in Davis. There is a new manager. Wow, lack of people skills and customer service. I needed to order a large salad and 10 sandwiches sliced in half individually wrapped for a lunch for 20. Pretty simple, right. I arrived 3 hours before needing my order. And, I was picking it up. Instead of charging me a catering order price she wanted to have me pay the in store individual price which is so much more for the same amount of salad and sandwiches. Her reason was they did not have the staff to put a large mixed greens salad in 1 large container but had staff to place 20 individual salads to go in individual containers instead. Ok...really...What a waste of packaging, resources and especially not cost effective for restaurants. The food cost must be hurting so bad they can't even think straight. It would take 2 seconds to place a large salad together in 1 large container, and the same time to make the 10 sandwiches. Is Panera going under...is this the kind of caliber of staffing they want to have as the face of their business. Very sad. Do not go to Panera unless you want to be ripped off and receive no customer service let alone people skills. Well they just lost all my business and I do lots of catering orders. read more

What happened?? :( Salty, salty, salty. During the fall semester I would come with friends ALL the time. I just came tonight and had a very mediocre experience. All of my food items involving bread tasted as if they were coated with salt so bad it dried out my mouth and lips. SO bad I has to get some Chapstick. My creamy tomato soup after I took the nasty cheesy croutons out tasted pretty good. But, my sandwich's bread was the saltiest. I gritted my teeth and just ate half because I was so hungry. I will not come back to panera in Davis, I'll go to any other location. Front staff is alright, the kitchen is kinda meh and screws around and the guy forgot to give me utensils. Today was my first time here. I ordered the tomato and mozzarella panini with an iced tea. The portion size was just right and with an additional $0.99, you can get a pastry. They have a microwave so you can microwave your pastry when you decide to eat it. The environment is pretty cozy for studying; good lighting, comfy seating, and not too loud. The only negative aspects are the extremely slow wifi and the fact that the food is slightly more expensive. Basic, average. I got the acai berry tea and cream of broccoli bread bowl. The acai berry tea was super watery so I exchanged it for a lemonade. I've been here several times and they always have quick service and their pastries, drinks (espresso) and meals are always on point! Chanel and Jaclyn are always so warm and welcoming as soon as you come through the front door. I used to come here and felt like the service was pretty bad but things have turned around! I find the Panera chain to be fairly standard in their food and service quality - the Davis location is no exception. The veggies are fresh and crisp, the bread is fragrant and delicious! The Davis location offers plenty of in-door and out-door seating. The outdoor seating has plenty of shade and the location is right in the heart of Davis! Prices are pretty high for the food but usually I get the half a sandwich special with chips/bread and soup/salad which is more bang for your buck! One of the things I really liked here is their pumpkin spice latte, it is much better here than at starbucks! The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and a good place to study. Impressed! Panera does a good job of serving your sandwich, salad, soup, paninis, and baked goods basics, but obviously more delicious than just a simple deli selection. Stopped by for lunch and I had the $6.99 combo (choose two between soup, salad, and half sandwich). Ended up with the Sierra Turkey and Broccoli Cheddar and it was delicious and sososo satisfying! For those health conscious folks, they have calorie counts on everything! I knew I should've probably chose the salad over the cheddar soup... and the apple snack over the baguette. Panera's great for a quick lunch, but in a college town like this one it's almost impossible to find a seat to just have a bite, so usually I go to this Panera and take my food to-go. They take to-go orders over the phone and online. I love the creamy tomato soup and their sandwiches are alright - I think they're a little too salty for my taste though and the portions are quite small for the price. Panera bread is everything you expect from a food chain of the sort. Pretty good food, nice service, just not exceptional. The have many yummy soups, my favorites are the creamy tomato and the potato soup. I highly recommend a bread bowl. They bake all their breads, pastries, and rolls fresh daily. Personally I don't bother getting sandwiches here. It seems appealing to get the soup and sandwich combo but there's just so much better places to get a sandwich in Davis. The bread bowl and the great soup is definitely why I come here. They also have weekly specials for their baked goods. Some days a dozen bagels is reduced. read more

When Panera first opened, the line was out the door; there was no way I was going to eat there. After a few weeks, the line got better. Since I'm not too familiar with their food, I asked my friends for recommendations, and they all raved about the soup. I had their broccoli cheddar and it was so salty, no wonder they ask if you want bread. All the soups were pretty salty, I guess that's good if you're sick and need the salt. I've also had a panini there which was decent, but they serve it on this massive plate and make the sandwich look so small. The panini was fine, but nothing spectacular. The substance of the sandwich fell short. I thought I was just eating toasted bread and cheese most of the time. I've also had one of their pastries, which was probably the best thing about this place. I was very excited that Panera came to Davis. Although it is a chain restaurant, you can go to Panera and expect very fresh and tasty food. The prices are about a happy middle in terms of other sandwich shoppes...more expensive than togas/subway but cheaper than any sandwich you would get at a sit-down. You can usually get a half sandwich/half salad for about $7. I recommend getting the panera customer card which gives you point for every purchase you make at panera. Ive gotten a free dessert and know of others who have gotten free espressos. TIP- Although you are getting your food to go, you should order it for sit-down (you get more food if its on a plate than packed up). You can easily pack it up yourself to take more food with you! read more

Panera is always good. Originally, I had wanted to take the boyfriend out for some hearty food and drink, but alas, he was not feeling well. We went to one of our tried-and-true places, Panera. Since he was feeling a little under the weather, he got his favorite Bistro French Onion soup with an apple on the side. I wasn't very hungry, so I settled for some acai berry tea and the free pastry that I got by using my "My Panera" card. :) His soup was so good. It's not too thick nor thin, has perfectly caramelized onions, and just the right of gooey cheese. The tea, the apple, and the pastry were all up to par as well. I always love the atmosphere of Paneras. Very laid-back and cafe-like. The free wi-fi and plentiful tables make it a popular place of study in every city I've been to that had a Panera. Service is alert and friendly, lunch is a bit pricey, and food is mediocre. This is also a great place to study (aside from a few chatty customers). Electrical outlets are placed every other table so you do have to search for them sometimes. I love that there are little booths and tables you can work alone in. Wifi is limited to half an hour per customer during peak lunch hours. The workers are not too keen on rushing studiers out the door (I've stayed for almost 6 hours once after my lunch). There are seats available during midterm season, though you might need to watch for those beloved, hidden booths to become available. My side order of pesto pasta was in a small teacup and was drenched in oil. The cold sandwiches were nothing memorable. However, I do love their cheddar and broccoli soup (not such much with the crackers). The iced tea is unlimited for a small cup, but is also very, very sweet. There are lots of utensils provided. NEW! I was super excited when I saw that panera was making an appearance in davis. I have been to Paneras in other locations so I kinda know what to expect. They are more stocked here in terms of their bagels, probably because davis is a smaller city. When I come mid-day wanting a cinnamon crunch bagel, they're usually out in other cities, but davis had a whole basket of them still! My recommendation is the cinnamon crunch - the way it melts in your mouth with all those sweet chuncks makes me so happy. I also ordered a caramel latte here, which was well made. I liked it. Their standard size is a bit bigger than I usually order (about a medium size Starbucks cup). I was really impressed by the decor actually - that probably takes the cake. Tried the new edame broth bowl. Lots of noodles and very hearty tasting. A bit on the salty side and I was left yearning for more broth. I think if the broth was watered down a bit more, it would have diluted the saltiness. Great addition to the menu-- just needs a little tweaking, IMHO. read more

The portion was smaller than what I expected and the soup was too salty. But overall an okay experience considering the nice ambient and the friendly server who cleaned up my table for me . We stopped into this location on our way to San Fran from Reno after hitting Dutch Bros coffee down the street (No Panera or Dutch Bros in Reno). Walked in through the front door and set our four 3/4 full coffees on a table to save a place while we ordered, and when we walked back from the cashier area our coffees were gone. The only thing that remained was a sweat ring from the sweet sweet iced bliss of the coffee cups. We saw a staff member (another manager) walking the dining area and asked him if he threw away the four full cups and he told us he had, as no one was sitting there, defending that they were only half full. We had stepped away for 5 minutes, maximum, to order. 1- if you're going to clean up the dining hall, actually clean the dining hall... Don't just throw the cups away, wipe the tables with crumbs down, and push the chairs in. 2- what person in their right mind would leave 20 dollars worth of coffee (3/4 full) on a table and not come back for it. If you pay for a coffee shop drink you generally drink the whole thing. The saving grace for this experience was the manager, Chris M., who came to our table when he had found out what had happened. Chris was nice enough to offer to actually send someone down the street to Dutch Bros and get our order again! That is going above and beyond in our eyes, completely redeeming the experience. We told him that it wasn't necessary but we really appreciate the offer. Chris proceeded to tell us that he still felt bad for what had happened and ended up giving us some vouchers for the next time we stop into Panera. If it wasn't for Chris, we probably wouldn't be coming back to this location. Other than the coffee chucking snafu, the experience was great, phenomenal food and excellent customer experience from Chris M. On a side note, while finishing our lunch, the manager came out to the dining area and set a cup down full of what looked like Mountain Dew, it took all that I had to not walk over to the table and throw it away... Pretty busy week round. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly. The dining area can get a little dirty. I love getting the half & half mac and cheese and creamy tomato soup. The restaurant usually runs out of dishes at the end of the day, which tells me it's not fresh (saw them pulling out the mac and cheese from a plastic wrap bag). It's still very delicious. This Panera Bread is often very crowded but it is exactly what you would expect from the chain and the food is good. My favorite is getting the greek salad and using the kiosk to add extra vegetables and toppings for free. A nice place with free WiFi, welcoming vibes, and decent food. Yes, it's expensive but you can justify the price of the food because of the quality of the ingredients. If you don't like your bread cold, asked them to toast it for you! I recommend the You-pick-two as it saves you about $2 dollars total and gives you more of a variety. My go-to order: a You-pick-two with half of a chipotle chicken avocado melt and half of the Southwest Chili lime ranch salad. Their dine-in options are decent, but I feel like they charge a bit too much for a lot of stuff, especially their sandwiches. They do occasionally have good soups and salads, but a lot of their stuff in both the bakery and the restaurant portions are seasonal. I give a solid three stars for dine in. The staff at this particular Panera is generally pretty nice, and the restaurant itself has a lot of comfy interior seating. Out with Blockbuster and in with Panera! Quite the transformation! Months ago this spot was shelves of movies and now it's a lovely café! Sure, once you've been to one Panera, you've been to them all (what do you expect, it's a chain). But, this one is brand spakin' new and definitely worth a stop if you are in Davis. WHAT I LOVE: Seriously, pure genius to put a Panera Bread in this college town! This place offers a nice study/work spot with plenty of added bonuses. *Free WiFi (seriously, this is why I choose a place when I'm thinking about work spots. What is wrong with Peet's?!). *Free coffee refills. Totally awesome when you need a few hours to get some work done and have to get that extra caffeine. *Outlets at every table so that the laptop stays charged! *Spacious tables/booths so that you can spread out. *Outdoor seating available so that you can soak up some rays. *Friendly staff that remove the dishes from the table when you're done so you don't have to play bus boy! *The BEST pumpkin spice latte I've ever had! Thankfully this drink is seasonal so I'll have to be cut off at some point. It's the perfect amount of sweet and pumpkin to coffee ratio. Way better than the Starbuck's version, which is too sweet (even for a sweet gal like me!). When I got the PS latte here, it was served in a big ceramic mug that I cuddled up to and savored every sip. *Good choice of sandwiches and soups to meet your hunger needs. *They provide calorie info on the menu (which could be a good thing or a bad thing, especially if you are like me and prefer to be in denial). *Carbs galore! Great atmosphere like any other panera bread location. Great food, and good customer service. Not a good place to study. Internet sucks for the most part and though there are numerous people studying, no ones really studying. Tried to upload a PDF file for 30 minutes and ended up just drinking hella coffee (free refills) and getting a 'you pick 2' combo. I guess it's just a great place to socialize and eat a more than average lunch. Though it is a franchise, this place is awesome in terms of food. They have a wide selection of breads, pastries, sandwiches, and salads. In my opinion it's a bit pricey for small danky portions but I can't complain because I go almost every other day and enjoy a great satisfying meal. Everything is ~$8 or more, but even the free bread they offer is so soft and texturally novel lol. I'm sure everyone's been to panera once in their life, so it shouldn't be anything new. Just noting that it is NOT a study environment. Don't let the open MacBooks fool u. Maybe if you don't need the Internet and have a pair of earphones on, it'd be okay.
