Good atmosphere, great staff, and great food. This is the trifecta when you are at the heart of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. It appears to be a bakery, but the breads they bake turn into incredible sandwiches. The price is not too bad, but the sandwiches are huge. I ordered a ham sandwich with mozzarella and sundried tomato. I drew the short end of the stick that day when they told me the focaccia was sold out, but they had ciabatta. It took a while for the sandwich to come out, but it was worth it. You can definitely portion this into two separate meals if you are not a big eater. The bread was toasty and fresh, and the ham and mozzarella were nicely portioned and paired with the tomatoes and balsamic vinegar. Good sandwich for a fair price. Sounds about Bay Ridge.
I remember when Paneantico first opened--hard to believe it's been about 20 years. Now, visiting from out of town, we knew we had to go back. It was absolutely worth the trip: incredible food, warm service, and that same bustling ambiance I've always loved.
Been back a couple times for both breakfast and lunch and this place is just as great as it was when I first started coming here. The breakfast platters here are massive enough to put you in a food coma while not being crazy expensive. The hero's are also top notch. Recently I went with the #B122 which was fried eggplant, fresh mozz, and roasted red peppers. You absolutely have to add balsamic glaze to make it complete and with the multiple bread choices you have I suggest you go with their brick oven hero bread. 10/10. Have to mention the coffee is good here too. Their brewed coffee is strong without it being bitter and works well with everything they sell here. You might run into Nonna who comes out of the kitchen every once in a while. Eat here!
It says "bakery" so you probably were like me and thought "yay, cookies!" No no. Do what they did and think outside of that. Pasta salad? Straight up hot food? Over 100 sandwich options?! Call in and order that sandwich in advance. That way, you go in, grab your sandwich, run home, and inhale that sandwich. And did I know balsamic glaze goes on all sandwiches? I do now. Paneantico taught me that. That's why they give you balsamic with every sandwich. You don't have to ask for it, it's their way of saying "trust us". Made to order. So good. You can't mess up a sandwich; only make it better. It's gonna take me a while to get to all these sandwiches but I'll try. Wish me luck.
Absolutely delicious! The creamy grilled chicken Caesar salad was incredibly fresh -- crisp romaine, perfectly grilled chicken, and a rich, tangy dressing that tied it all together. Every bite was full of flavor. I'll definitely be back for more! And let me get started on the cakes. Servers were amazing and helpful

I ordered a vegan version of a sandwich, they had an option to "make it vegan" my sandwich arrived FULL of meat! When I called the excuse was that they had no option to make my sandwich vegan, however, instead of calling me to tell me this, they sent me a sandwich full of meat and cheese. They said I could speak to a manager and put me on hold and I got hung up on. This is not a way to run a business. This was clearly their fault and not mine.
This bakery is a true gem. The kind where you point and keep adding more and more into your box, yet the bill never breaks the bank. This Italian bakery spoke my language- and I only got to the sweets and not even the savories yet. Can't wait to return! I got all my usuals - cannoli, pignola cookies, something difficult to pronounce, the crisp butter cookies with sprinkles, and more. There was a green muffin I threw in there too at the last minute. The rainbow cookies were incredible. I noticed they also have a rainbow cookie cheesecake which I would like to try next time. Watching my kind server pull out each item behind the counter, ending with pulling string from a spool to tie around my box - a labor of love. Thank you, Paneantico!
I hold steady on the platform from my previous review, about the food served being delicious, however, I've knocked one star off due to the horrible service. Granted, they do get busy sometimes; I've seen the ladies behind the counter juggle three, four customers at a time without breaking a sweat. However... We went there today for a late lunch (2:15pm) to dine al fresco. There were plenty of tables to choose from, both inside and out (a lull in the day). We alerted a waitress that we were there for patronage, and we had a seat. The waitress came out with menus and silverware, and gave us some time. Then some more time. Then... some more time.... At 2:35pm, twenty minutes after being handed menus, and no one had stopped by the table to even take our "drink order", let alone "meal order". We really wanted to eat one of their sandwiches, so we were trying to be as patient as possible. We said "Five more minutes - If she doesn't come by within five minutes, let's go.". Five minutes came and went, so we packed up and left. My man alerted the waitress that he didn't appreciate being ignored, and we took off. Again, fantastic food but their wait staff needs either better training or better supervision. We waited 25 minutes to try to place an order. I'm not so sure we'll be going back. That's what "take out" is for, right?

Today is my mom's 35th birthday (for the 2nd time)! She absolutely loves Strawberry Shortcake! Normally, I get the 8-inch for her, but we were having lots of company to celebrate this milestone birthday. I pre-ordered yesterday for today. I asked for something that would feed 20 to 30 people, and the young lady behind the counter went and asked the baker for a recommendation. She was super sweet and helpful! She said the baker recommended a 14-inch cake. I'm thinking it's like a half pan size, so I'm like, ok, sounds good to me! My husband was running late to pick up, so I called in to let them know. They told me the price, and I was a little caught off guard. Normally, the 8-inch round is $25. They quoted me $85. I hung up, thought about it, and called back. I asked for the manager because I couldn't wrap my head around the price. I'm thinking it's like a 14 by 7 rectangle. I spoke to Stephanie, the manager, and she's trying to explain the pricing to me. I'm not getting it, so I asked her to send me a picture. She does, and I realize why the cake isn't like $50. This gargantuan beauty is AT LEAST the size of 4 of the mini cakes, so I'm actually getting a deal! Stephanie is patient with me all the way. She's wonderful! My husband brings the cake home, and everyone is like, "What the freak?!" But mom loved it, so now we told her she's gotta eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next 3 days! I just wanted to thank you guys for this lovely creation. It was delicious and made mom so happy! I also want to thank the girls at the counter and Stephanie for being so sweet and patient! The specialty hero with steak, broccoli rabe, and mozzarella was ok. But the small indoor space feels warm and inviting. There are charming interactions between staff and customers all the time. And service for me was prompt and friendly. Now onto the food. The bread wasn't quite right. I preferred a crisper exterior and fluffier interior. The steak was 2 pieces of well-cooked, yet undersalted meat. The broccoli rabe seemed too bitter in comparison to the underflavored steak. There was a tiny cup of sauce, but i felt it lacked enough of a savory element. It reminded me of a smoky, slightly sweetened balsamic vinegar. Sandwiches to pastries you cant go wrong with Pameantico. They have all fresh pastries that taste amazing. Their sandwiches are packed and can feed two, unless you want to devour one on your own!! They use great coffee which is freshly brewed. I recommend the bacon egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast however be prepared to skip lunch. If your getting lunch then definitely go for one of their brick oven sandwiches. They will not disappoint. You will love the cannoli. The cookies are fresh and can be purchased by the box. They were open so me and my friend went in to have breakfast before her doctors appt. You can sit and eat and the waitress was very friendly and sweet. We didn't know what to order so she recommended the Bacon, Egg and cheese with peppers! We forgot to order peppers but it was very good! The bagel was so soft too! There are plenty of options to choose from! I even ordered a few desserts to take home! read more

This place really really went down hill.... A whole bunch of teenagers with no customer service experience. I ordered 7 layer cookies and the child behind the counter tried to put it in a bag.... I asked for her to put it in a box and she rolled her eyes. When I asked her for a receipt she said the register was broken.... I told her she can call over her manger and she then got the receipt somehow..... flung it at me Lmaoo.... Save your time people, The girls at Panino Rustico have way better manners and class... And the food is amazing at Panino. If you want lasagna go to La Villa or something for that kind of $. I also just read the comments and seems like the past 6 months hasn't been their time read more

Wow. Just wow. I definitely the sandwiches are large enough for 2 people to enjoy. Very generous with meat and cheese. Service is fast and friendly. So many delicious desserts and hot foods to choose from as well. Their cannoli is excellent. Would love to return and try about 50 other things on this menu read more

Have stopped here a few times before but was impressed with how they're handling the outside dining. The service was super quick, kind, and helpful. Their food really never disappoints and their sandwiches are literally big enough for at the LEAST 2 meals, but I'm stretching mine to about 4 right now We ordered two of the grilled chicken, roasted pepper, and mozzarella sandwiches (and added pesto and arugula as well) and they were killer with their balsamic sauce. Also got the rice ball which I assumed I wouldn't like just based on looks but actually ended up absolutely obsessed and going to definitely pick up more very soon. read more

My friend and I hit the jackpot, it seems, having walked right in and sat down with no lines. Keep in mind it was the 4th of July, and by reading other reviews, it's not the norm. Paneantico is an old school Italian bakery and deli where you come for the food and not the pleasantries. The menu features two pages of sandwich options served up on fresh baked Italian bread. Having lived in NY most of my life, then moving to California, and now just coming back for the occasional visit, trust me when I say, you just don't get bread that perfect outside of NY. I ordered the B115 with portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers and mozzarella. It was enormous so I've got half left over for lunch today. The veggies were glazed in their flavorful balsamic and the fresh mozzarella made me realize I haven't had truly good mozzarella outside of brooklyn. They feature a large bakery case of Italian pastries and a deli case of the staple salads, rice balls and olives. We got some S cookies with sesame to go for dessert from the bakery. Service was fine-our food came out quickly and our server while not overly attentive, kept on top of things as she was working all the tables. This is pretty much a what you see is what you get type place and if you can look past the wait times and to the point service, you'll find the food is well worth it. Staff at Paneantico: "What would you like?" Me: EVERYTHING!!!! In a neighborhood like Bay Ridge, there is no shortage of options to eat. But do yourself a favor and go with the best. In all the times I've eaten here, I can't remember an instance when my experience was anything less than stellar. It's a business that excels at what they do. The coffee is great, the baked goods are amazing, the hot food and sandwiches are fantastic (really great omelettes) and the staff is super friendly. Can't praise them enough. So, come on in. Being someone who has traveled quite extensively and have sampled quite a few bakeries, I can say that I was quite blown away by the large selection and quality of the options available at Paneantico Bakery. I don't think I've ever seen a double stacked fruit tart in my life, so naturally I had to get it. At $29.75, it wasn't cheap but certainly was worth every penny! I also enjoyed a cup of coffee while seated outdoors, it was quite a good experience. If you're ever in the Bayridge area, I highly recommend you give these guys a chance, you won't be disappointed. read more
Food is four-stars but the wait for a table was a little ridiculous. We came here for a quick bite while visiting a friend who lives in the area. He suggested this place for a good cup of coffee. The pastries were tempting but hubbs and I just split a Croissant breakfast sandwich with eggs and cheese. Everything was good, fresh and came to the table relatively quickly so, I guess if people are considerate, the turnover isn't too bad but it does get super crowded. I doubt I'll be in the area again, any time soon but this was a nice meal. read more

There's a reason this place is mobbed...I might have even bumped into your mother. This establishment was known to me, but it took my gal pal who recently moved here to finally, well, move me to come here for a light lunch. The crowd, however, was far from light. It was PACKED!! People sitting to the far left at little cafe tables, and then a line of people to order from the bakery and then run. We braved the crowd, and squeezed into a table against the wall - perfect. The menu is like reading an article in the New York Times! Patience is a virtue, and make sure you take your precious time in deciding, because you don't want to regret that last minute decision. We opted to get a house salad that was HUGE! But it was absolutely delicious! Wonderfully and lightly dressed, with freshness in each bite; just simply awesome. The sandwich that we decided to split was eggplant with fresh mozzarella, broccoli rabe, and roasted peppers. The sandwich was so gigantic, I don't know how it would be humanly possible for one person to even think about eating that in one sitting! It was lethal! The bread....a moment of silence for the bread......thank you Paneantico! Stop in and get there early enough to get a seat so you can people watch, and then let the people watch you eat that sandwich; suckers!! read more
I was there in the early evening, basically empty. Nobody's sitting inside, 2 tables of customers out side, one table with one guy, and another one with a couple. I went inside ordered latte and a cake, then told the girl by register that I'm going to sit outside. She told me ok, will bring the stuff out. So~~~ i was sitting there for THIRTY MINUTES WITHOUT ANYBODY BRING OUT MY ORDER!!! Just a cup of latter and a cake which already made, how long you need to take?! In between, there's a guy( might be a worker or owner ) came out from inside and saw me, he yell toward the waitresses," hey girls, there's a table outside." Of course nobody's out for another 15 mins! And this is how i know so well how many customers were there at that time. I was really unhappy and went inside, of course the workers were talking and laughing with each other! This is the spot. You want that crazy delicious sandwich or chicken Parmesan? You come here. Fresh baked Italian style bread, amazing pastries and desserts, the lattes are amazing and honestly i haven't had anything bad here. prices are on the higher side for sandwiches but when you see what they come with, you know where your money goes. come sit for a coffee, have a plate of chicken parmesan with broccoli rabe and some potatoes, finish with a canoli or a tiramisu and an espresso and call it a day. read more
Was in the neighborhood for the day and in the mood for a sandwich. Being that it was going to rain, I wasnt trying to go to Defontes or Sunset, so where? My wife brings up this bakery, and I'm like "the bakery by food town, why would I get a sandwich there?" Wrong. So wrong. The place was packed, at 2 in the afternoon kind of wrong, so something has to be being done right. Before I even got my sandwich, they dropped the oil and balsamic vinegar on the table, wow. I look at the bottle and the consistency is like smooth velvety molasses. I couldnt wait to pour it on. My wife went with the chicken cutlet, arugula, maybe thats B94? Either way, the chicken was a great texture, nice crust. The vinegar on that brought it all together and made something so simple spectacular. I got the S42, salami, ham, arugula, like a take on an Italian. It had the right flavor, the bread didnt get too moist from the oil, each bite was everything, the pork, peppery arugula, these fresh tomatoes -I dont even like tomatoes on a sandwich like that! Finished the meal off with one of the lattes, amazing. I peeped too many reviews talking about it, had to have it, executed perfectly. This place is spectacular. Definitely one of the best classic Italian sandwich spots in all NYC. Bread is always perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside and all the ingredients are top notch, especially their balsamic which is god tier. Don't sleep on their pizza too. Stopped here for a late lunch, or early dinner? Haha, either way we were able to sit outdoors under one of the umbrellas to shade us from the scorching sun. We ordered the B83 and B84 on whole wheat bread since they were out of their delicious panini breads. Both sandwiches were delicious, well-portioned, and overall satisfying! The table service, however, was a bit slow but either way, our server was very sweet and willing to accommodate our every need. Be sure to ask for balsamic glaze on the side (or inside of you prefer). It's famous for a reason!! read more

We took our mom for breakfast on Mother's Day. The place is small and busy but the service is fast and very attentive . The coffee was soo good and it's been served in a big ceramic coffee cup($1.75). We also ordered some bagels with eggs . I've had fiber bagel with raisin and walnuts with raspberry jam- so yummy. My sister had bagel with egg and sausage and mom has ordered whole wheat bagel with egg and cheese. Every order was freshly made and simply delicious :) and our waitress was very friendly . We will def be back to try their pastries and other dishes from menu. read more
