The note on my food
Elina A.

After tipping over 20% ($5) to go 2 blocks, I had a note attached to my work order saying TIP A FEW EXTRA DOLLARS !! How disgusting and unprofessional is this!!! I will never order again !!! PAY YOUR DRIVER'S!! After reading it, I already didn't care about the soggy watery salad I received. No one and I mean NO ONE is tipping more then $5 for a $19 salad that I had to pay another $10 for fees etc...

Sunflower Cafe has been offering fresh, healthy, kosher dishes to the community for over 20 years. They serve mostly Middle Eastern inspired cuisine and none of the dishes offered contain any meat products, it's mostly garden fresh local produce, dairy products, pasta and wild caught fish. I've been there on a few different occasions and always liked the nice friendly staff, warm inviting atmosphere and of course delicious & nutritious food. Today we opted for a light lunch by ordering extremely popular Tomato Soup with melted cheese and it was a great pick for a very chilly early March afternoon-it tasted incredibly fresh like it was just cooked, with a delectable combination of different flavors, a bit savory, slightly sweet, a little tangy, perfectly seasoned and it had a huge dollop of yummy melted cheese inside which produced a TikTok worthy cheese pull that was definitely an added bonus for me. We also ordered a Chef's salad- Garden vegetables, artichoke, hard-boiled eggs, sweet corn, olives topped with feta cheese, mozzarella and cheddar. We added a side of tuna fish and avocado to it and it turned out to be a very largely sized, probably big enough for 3 people, full of fresh crispy veggies, savory olives, sweet corn, sliced hard boiled eggs, all of which was amazingly well complimented by the scrumptious house-made thousand islands dressing and topped with a mix of 3 different cheeses. I am not a big fan of salads but this one I enjoyed tremendously and would certainly order again. Lastly we ordered a side dish of truffle fries and once again were impressed by its incredible taste, abundance of different seasonings which included graded Parmagiano-Reggiano, garlic, parsley and of course very aromatic truffle oil. Fries were so warm, crispy and finger licking good, we couldn't stop eating it, unquestionably made my list of 10 Best Truffles Fries in the city. Prices are a bit on a higher side, but it's understandable considering its a certified kosher restaurant, premium quality of ingredients and huge portion sizes. All in all-very satisfying lunching experience, great place, vast menu, awesome food and service. Definitely recommend to visit or order online delivery asap.

greek salad - feta cheese, olives, its a huge portion

The food here is delicious, super fresh, and the portions are generous. The entire cafe is decorated with sunflower themed things, and it looks beautiful. A nice spot to take pics in when not crowded. Everything was delicious, the workers were helpful and kind, and we got our food quickly after ordering it. Bathroom is spacious and clean. Overall a place with a cute vibe, delicious food, and good prices.

When a restaurant's menu leaves you unsure of what to order because you want to order everything, you know they do things right. While it's primarily a brunch place, they do have a full menu and are open as late as 10:30pm on Sundays for dinner. The highlight here, at least for me, are the sandwiches. They come on toasty sesame bread and are loaded with melty cheese, guac, veggies, egg, pesto, or any combination you want. The guac is great, so be sure to get it, either as an appetizer, or as part of the guac salad, or the guac sandwich. Pasta is a good one too, and so is the fish. Lemonanas are this fresh slushy minty lime drink that cannot be replicated. They've got stuffed baked potatoes, soups, and a pretty large wait staff (maybe even too many people for 6pm on a Sunday). This place gives off good vibes, despite the fact that prices seem to have gone up in recent years. You also need to ask for water and bread for the table. It's primarily a Jewish and Israeli crowd, and an Israeli wait staff. Ask for the charif (spicy sauce) and all of the dressings and sauces, they know what they are doing.

I'm not kosher, but my boyfriend's mom is and we have gone here several times. This is one of my favorite kosher spots and it's one with some of the fairest prices, compared to others. If you're looking for a recommendation of something to get, the baked ziti is personally my favorite. It's super cheesy!! I have also gotten eggs Paris, but I thought my scrambled eggs were a bit over cooked. The cool thing about the breakfast platters is that they come with salad (I got Caesar), freshly squeezed orange juice, and coffee or tea. The portions are satisfying and the restaurant is really nice inside. There's pretty paintings on the walls and even a huge sunflower mural! Definitely a good spot.

Great food fast service deliver. I have eaten from here often but sat here for the first time. Love the Juices soups and sandwiches. The servers are cordial and helpful. Menus easy to navigate on an iPad. A jem of a place.

As I walk in, the friendly lady behind the counter asks me what I would like. I respond: A cappuccino please. Then, I carefully inquire further for what baked goods are available with a smile. In her reply, she tells me sadly that there is only croissants. So not being picky, I tell her: Great, I'll have one. Next, she brings me a cappuccino on a glass saucer and my croissant on a dish. Also, there are numerous napkins, sugar, long stemmed spoon given to me as well. I felt like a sports lounge vibe with many tables and chairs (probably enough to seat 35 people at least). Most demographic would be elders, mostly men, in their 40's to 60's kicking back and enjoying the hot, lazy afternoon. It was around 3 pm and I just got off a flight. I found the service impolite and dismissive. And the coffee pod, yes a COFFEE POD AT A CAFÉ is outrageous. Well aside from me noticing a bit to late to stop the process I watched her make it and seen the liquid coming out beige at best. I actually thought she was running a cleaning of the machine, because the color just wasn't the color even a blond roast would be. I mentioned it looked light, to which she replied it's not light it's black coffee it's dark. Well I took my sip, left a dollar tip and left the coffee on the counter. With the myriad of cafes in Brooklyn these days, I would have been better with mud from the bodega.

I ordered the Journey to Baku salad, the Turkish bread, and the Guru Khingal. The salad needed a pinch of salt, but there was a shaker on the table and with that addition, it was a decent refreshing appetizer. It's sort of a spread so I would recommend ordering some bread to eat with it. The bread came out steaming hot and smelling amazing. It was soft and fluffy on the inside and delicious. I took the extra home and ate it all immediately when I got there. Delicious bread. The Guru Khingal is honestly one of the best things I've ever eaten in New York City. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, as I have never eaten this type of food before. The tender, handcut pasta seems to be layered with flavorful lamb fat like the most decadent possible buttered noodles and the ground lamb topping is rich and perfectly seasoned. The yogurt sauce gives the dish balance. It's a fairly large portion that could easily be shared between two. I highly recommend this spot, the glowing reviews are not exaggerating at all. I often like to try new and unusual restaurants, and sometimes I enjoy them mostly for the novelty. That was not the case at Village Cafe. My meal here was delicious and I am eager to return, even with the 75 minute commute from north Brooklyn.

Service (5/5): We came at an off hour during the weekend around 1:30pm there was still around 6 parties dining in. The staff provided good recommendations and good service. When asked for water without any lemon slices, they provided bottled water at no extra cost! Food: (4/5) - rated New York Times top 100 Best Restaurants in New York City in 2025 Every dish came with a small cup of sour cream / Tzatziki based sauce that went with every dish. This was a must and this was mastered very well. Kutaby with chicken and lamb (4/5) - we ordered one each but the lamb was far superior than the chicken. Guru Hingal (4/5) - served in a warmed bowl with a lid in a bed of soft pasta and minced lamb. The pasta reminded me of chow fun (Chinese rice flat noodles) and then some seasoned minced lamb. While overall there were flavors in there, it was still lacked flavors and required to be drowned in the Tzatziki sauces or perhaps a order of table hot sauce. Finally we got the Lamb Lulya Kebab (5/5): this was by far the best dish of the meal! The meat was so wonderfully seasoned throughout, juicy, and complemented well with the rice, onions, and tomato based dip. The wraps themselves were way too small to enjoy using hands so we definitely reconstructed on our plates and attempts with our hands.

She checked on us multiple times and was just overall very nice. We ordered the Oofte Arberia, small grill plate, afjar condiment, and French fries. Everything was delicious. The French fries, wow. They were so delicious - perfectly crispy and not oily at all. The perfect shape too. I don't even like French fries like that but I couldn't stop eating them. They also have fresh bread that was made in house - that was delicious with the eggplant dip that we ordered (afjar). The grill platters were so delicious. I would recommend the grill platter so you can try different types of meat. But each meat was flavorful and perfectly cooked. We got a house salad with the meat and it was nice and refreshing. Having never tried such delicacies as flija anywhere else before, how could I know if they were being exalted for their own execution or for the dish itself? It's the original Lady M - layers of crepes clearly stacked with copious amounts of butter. I wish the ajvar came with it, but it's worth shelling out a few extra dollars to add a bit of color to the dish.
