For my 1000th review, I wanted to give a HUUUUUGE shout out to Pane & Vino and the owner, Fabio, for truly presenting the best sandwiches and the kindest hospitality to my husband and I during our lunch visit. I had seen the positive Yelp reviews and was eager to enjoy a meal here during our stay in Rome. We tried to visit first around 12:30pm, however, a group of six (including 2 young kids) occupied all of the stools, and when I very kindly asked if the parents would not mind having one of the toddlers sit on their lap so we could share one chair between us I was met with a barrage of hostility-literally asking me if I know how to count 6 people for 6 chairs. Before anything escalated (because I was pretty astonished at their behavior and audacity), we left, toured the Roman Forum and returned around 2pm to try again. At 2pm it was less crowded and there were two stools available. When we went to thecounter to order, the owner, Fabio, recognized us from earlier and asked what the problem had been. When I explained, he apologized for their behavior (nothing for him to be sorry about obviously) and told us that they were quite rude to him and his staff as well. He thanked us for returning and said he wanted to put a smile on my face by the time I left, and promised his sandwiches would do so. They did, but Fabio's conversation and passion for his food did that even prior to me tasting anything. After our meal, he even gave us a map of Rome and little known places to visit that are cool, such as the Aventine Keyhole and the rose garden. Now for the food. I ordered the special porchetta, their most popular sandwich. It has roast pork, buffalo mozzarella, grilled eggplant, grilled peppers, mushrooms, lettuce, and just a tad bit of mayo to tie everything together. Not only was the portion gigantic-easily could have fed 2 people-but the flavors were amazing! The bread was fresh and nicely toasted and the pork was very tender. This is a very, very messy sandwich so be prepared with the napkins! My husband ordered the Poppea-parma raw ham, buffalo mozzarella, and rocket salad. He loved his sandwich and shared my sentiments about the fresh ingredients! Fabio was also kind enough to give us each a free chocolate mousse cup which was so,so creamy and delicious! They have a cooler of drinks plus wine (obviously) and beer. We both really enjoyed our beer selections. Prices are super reasonable and if there is no room to dine in-and it's not 100 degrees outside-feel free to get your sandwich to carry out and enjoy in one of the many parks or piazzas nearby. The location near the Colosseum makes this ideal for a lunch spot after touring around.

If Fabio is here, you're in for an absolute treat. He has run this place for seven years, invented the menu, and is happy to entertain. If he's not, the food will be just as good, but you won't get his service- which is incredible. If you want someone friendly to answer any questions you have in English, French, German, Italian, or Arabic, then Fabio is your man. He also has some stories! In addition, the food itself is great. Sandwiches are diverse and interesting with all fresh ingredients. One of the breads is made with tomatoes. Seriously. And it tastes incredible.

The pork is where it's at. Don't get the veggie or ham it's not what they do. Skip the specials, get the Cioli!! Nothing else!

    Simple menu amazing food!!!

My 10 year old love this place! Very small, simple menu, but as they say... great things come in small packages. Was good to eat something other than pasta and pizza

Found Pane & Vino on yelp while looking for a quick bite around the colosseum area. Wanted to get off the beaten path. This place is AWESOME!!! I can't say enough good things about this location. As others have said, get the porchetta sandwich. This is huge and the price is right. The seating here is limited so know that going in. When I say it's limited, I am not joking. You will understand when you get there. The service was good and it was a nice place to catch a quick bite. Enjoy......

The special porchetta sandwich is great. And big. Should be good to share unless you're hungry. Fun and friendly staff and great service. Nice break from the craziness of the summer Colosseum spectacle. A bottle of cold prosecco goes well with the sandwich. Also has a selection of vegetarian sandwiches for non-pork eaters like my girlfriend. But the vegetarian sandwich was not great, per my girlfriend.

The place is wonderful! Food, drinks, service everything is superb! The owner is extremely friendly, he made sure that we loved every single moment. And we did! Definitely five stars!

Conveniently located right by the colosseum! Alongside delicious sandwiches and cheap price in a variety of ingredients and styles, the owner is one personality you are will not soon forget. As far as we saw he was fluent in a slew of different languages (at least Italian, English, French) and converses with you while you wait and after you eat. We ordered the Special Porchetta sandwich and the Fabius sandwiches, and they were both huge and excellent. The former was a more traditional meat and vegetable (including grilled eggplants!) sandwich, while the latter was more akin to an American burger (which being from Texas we were quite familiar with). After we finished the server told us and some of the other parties about a cool spot to visit in Rome, and also gave us a recommendation for a good gelateria next door for a dessert afterwards en route to the colosseum. A heart warming meal and experience at a small shop overall, and absolutely no complaints!

This was our first lunch in Roma, just a few blocks down from our apartment - we got there about 45 minutes after opening, employees were friendly and service was quick. We both ordered the special porchetta, and they were great!! We really enjoyed them. The porchetta had a lovely flavor and every aspect of the sandwich seemed to work well together. We would return, if in the area in the future!

Wow ! I was feeling a little home sick and craving a burger to cure my stress. I typed in hamburger and viola...... Pane &Vino popped up. I was already on my way to another restaurant, but I adjusted my headings to Pane & Vino The location is close to the Coleseo and near bus stops and conveniently located on a corner. The restaurant is rather small and does have outside seating and limited seating inside. The carving station is behind glass and you can see them preparing your sandwich right in front of you. The owner operator is very kind, humorous, and speaks your language! The sandwich!! Phenomenal! I ordered the Special Porchetta with added sun dried tomatoes, the owner explained that it may affect the taste of the sandwich and I appreciated his recommendations. It is a place that puts love into their sandwiches and you can clearly taste the difference it makes. It not only filled me up, but it also reminded me of my moms Tortas from home. I left Pane&Vino very satisfied and happy I found it. I highly recommend that you visit and see what all the hype is about. Your taste buds and your soul will appreciate your decision! CIO I will return !

Stopped here for our first lunch in Rome. Conveniently located near the Colosseo. Not many seats inside, we chose to sit outside on a curb. I ordered the porchetta special and it was delicious. The bread is so light and airy; I didn't want to stop eating! The sandwiches here are well sized and I only ate about half the portion. My husband also enjoyed his sandwich. The cashier spoke decent English, which made things easier as we had just gotten off a flight.

Fantastic find highlighted in Rick Steves Italy book. Welcoming staff with great sandwiches and Italian craft beer. First time having porchetta while in Italy and we tried both sandwiches offered. Excellent flavor with both.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and if you're sitting outside on a sunny day, the staff is very attentive about adjusting the shades so you're comfortable. They will adjust even without you having to ask. I ordered the artichoke as an appetizer which was very good, I recommend getting this if they are in season. I also ordered the carbonara, and it was by far the best I had while in Rome perfectly creamy, rich, and full of flavor without being too heavy. You can really tell they focus on doing the classics right. What stood out beyond the food was how efficiently the staff operated. Despite how busy the restaurant gets, they move quickly and keep everything running smoothly, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, this is a must-visit spot if you're in Rome. Expect a wait, but it's 100% worth it for the quality of the food and service.

By the time we were seated, dozens of people were waiting behind us. We sipped an Aperol spritz and lemonade while we waited, chatting with fellow diners who raved about the restaurant. On a sweltering day, our kids were starting to struggle in the heat when the owner came outside and gave them mini pizzas breads. It was a thoughtful gesture that immediately made us feel welcome. Once seated, we ordered burrata, cacio e pepe, amatriciana pasta, pork chops, and fried artichokes. Everything was excellent, but the amatriciana was the standout--rich, savory, and unforgettable. The cacio e pepe was silky, the burrata fresh and creamy, the pork chops juicy, and the fried artichokes perfectly crisp. There's a reason people line up for Da Enzo. The food is exceptional, the atmosphere lively, and the hospitality remarkable. Without question, this was our best meal in Rome and one of our most memorable restaurant experiences.

Being new to Rome, and having walked 20k steps on our first day, there are an abundance of options a for dining. We wanted something classically Rome nearby to our hotel. The Yelp review of this restaurant was sufficiently positive to entice us. Being American, we appreciate the earlier-than-customary dining options. We arrived at 6pm without a reservation. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is intimate and very well staffed. The wood fire oven is front-and-center and the fresh mozzarella is prominent in display. We ordered a bottle of wine ... all options are very fairly priced. This is nice. We started with a Greek salad to share. It was unlike any American Greek salad ... and a really delight. It is early June but the tomatoes and peppers were ripe and crisp and really fresh. My wife ordered the Marguerite pizza; I opted for the Gorgonzola pizza (the effusive review on Yelp was compelling). Both were solid. We appreciate the thin crust and the crisp edged. The center of both, however, was doughy and somewhat undercooked. Looking around ... the restaurant was over 50% full even at this early hour. Most were Americans. We saw a good number of diners with pasta dishes ... and none were left unfinished. Sadly, we don't have any comparisons to weigh (yet). So, I cannot affirm any "best of" citations, it this is certainly a solid trattoria/pizzeria. The staff are attentive and the food served hot and fresh.
