4.5 stars Delicious Sandwiches! Known for their speciality, porchetta sandwich, we got the Van Halen (9.50 €). It was delicious as it had porchetta, caramelized onions, dried tomatoes, basil, and garlic mayo. Only deducting 1/2 star because there was not as much meat as pictured on the menu and the sandwich is looked smaller than the picture. However, they have lots of really cool beers if you're into that. They also give out stamp cards for ordering regularly and I love that the stamp is a donkey! read more

ASK FOR THE SANTANA This is not the best porchetta in Rome but it is definitely the best porchetta _sandwich_ in Rome. Imagine a hipster/bougie sandwich shop in Santa Monica transplanted to Rome, with high-quality Italian ingredients and that's Donkey Punch. Highly recommend. We came here multiple times on a recent trip to try more of their menu. Ate too much. No regrets. read more

Amazing. Had to go back the next day for lunch to try a different sandwich. I had the Bob Marley and the Led Zeppelin. So so good. My wife had the Jimmi Hendrix and the Bob Dylan. You just can't go wrong. Good beer options as well. One of the best murals I've seen. I wish we were staying another day so I could go back for a third. Amazing sandwich shop! A big student spot. Sandwiches are made right on the spot, all named after rock starts and rock bands. The porchetta was amazing, I really like the skin and when I asked they cut me a nice crispy piece to enjoy while I waited for my sandwich. All veggies were fresh. Sauces were tasty. Top notch in every way! My son raved about Donkey Punch when he was studying for the semester in Trastevere. This sandwich spot was blocks from his dorm. The sandwiches are amazing and you can get everything, even if you're vegan. The owner is awesome and is super helpful and kind to English-speaking customers, and the throw-back nod to the American music Greats is just plain old fun! While it could appear kitschy, don't let that dissuade you from thinking the sandwiches are legit, solid, Rome panini. They are and also super unique! The only downside is that there are only a few seats in this very small place, so plan to take everything to go and enjoy eating nearby in the park. read more

First off: I am really glad we stopped here. It's a small shop with a handful of stools along the wall. Chances are you will need to take your food out. We somehow happened upon it when it was empty and sat right there to eat. One wall is a huge chalkboard covered in their menu. The sandwich section is huge. I couldn't even read all of the different names/combinations. You can order off this menu or have them build you a sandwich. Everything was fresh. Great bread choices. They had porchetta (which is the best). They also have a good selection of beers. Ask about local beers - we got to talking with the owner and he suggested some great beer. This is a funky little spot and I imagine that it gets crowded. The food is good. The prices are good. What's not to like? read more

I am but just a simple lad living on the humble streets of Trastevere when one day I stumbled upon this small hole in the wall sandwich shop unbeknownst to me that it would change my life. A few classmates and I were lured in almost hypnotically by the wafting aroma of Italian cold cuts and cheese and we were greeted in such a warm manner by the owner of the shop, Alessandro. Looking at their gargantuan menu was almost a bit overwhelming, as there were dozens of sandwich options named after some of the greatest musicians of our time. Seems like Alessandro really likes his classic rock. One sandwich at the very bottom of the menu caught my eye, by the name of Bob Dylan. As I unwrapped my Bobby D, there was a near eruption of cheese as it overflowed throughout the sides as I hastily used my entire napkin reserve to wipe off nearly a half pound of wet cheese. The other components of the sandwich consisted of grilled chicken, creamy avocado, sun dried tomatoes, and crispy onion flakes; and when I took that first bite it was magical. It was like falling in love. I regrettably didn't savor each bite as I ate this sandwich so quickly, Joey Chestnuts himself would've been impressed. Located in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome, Donkey Punch is a small and quirky sandwich shop which happens to serve outstanding food, coupled with a very solid Italian craft beer bottle selection. The highlight here is the porchetta sandwich ... which was absolutely delicious. This is more of a take-out place as there is only seating for about 5 people. The sandwich options are immense ... probably about 20 different types of sandwiches ... but like I said, the prochetta is the main attraction. Knocking off one star due to aloof and slow service ... coupled with high prices. For the money we paid (about 8 euro per sandwich), there really wasn't much meat on it - definitely could be a better value for the money. read more

If you're in Trastevere, check out Donkey Punch! You can't miss it as you walk around - it's the most colorful and interesting small store front on the street. Very cool decor - that wall mural! They have a wide variety of their speciality sandwiches (but you can also make your own) as well as a cool collection of different beers from all over. Ask for suggestions and speak to the staff! They are super friendly and helpful. Prices were fair - it's not a cheaper fast food place or a Subway but not too over priced either. I actually came in on a recommendation from a childhood friend. I mentioned that to one of the owners who was there and we really bonded. Management and staff are just really good people making really good food. It was the a great pit stop! read more

This was my absolute favorite food in Rome. It was so good that I returned the next day and ordered it again. You have the option of choosing a meat, veggies and so forth. I had the porchetta sandwich on their thinnest bread with smoked provolone cheese, eggplant, roasted tomatoes and some greens. The woman that helped me was proficient at English and she also seemed very knowledgeable about what was offered (though she did come off as a new employee while making the sandwich). Their spicy sauce is the icing on the cake. If I ever come back to Rome, this will be my first stop. Don't hesitate - go for it! Absolutely epic! The husband and I were in search of a tasty sandwich on warm June afternoon and boy did we get an awesome surprise. This place deserves more than 5 stars. The sandwiches are so ridiculously good, the ambience is badass and the staff is so kind. We had the Blues Brothers and the Black Sabbath both were absolutely delicious. If you are looking for a great beer selection, excellent food and a good time this is the perfect spot. I recommend trying the Blues Brother sandwich, it is AMAZING. You won't be disappointed with any sandwich that has their pork roast in it. Hands down best pork in Roma. As for beer you must try the Sunshine IPA. Perfect beer for the summer season. Or you can just ask the guys and gals working there for a recommendation. They are very friendly and more than happy to pick out some beers to try. Our group had about 10 different beers and loved them all. However if you aren't into beer they have wine too! read more

Donkey Punch has got to be the greatest sandwich shop that my taste buds have ever come across. It was like a religious experience. Whether it was after an afternoon class at JCU or coming home from Afroma club events at 4:00 in the morning, Donkey Punch was there to satisfy my needs. One of the best high snacks to exist. My personal favorites were the Santana, Led Zeppelin, Blues Brothers, and AC/DC. Beautiful mural displaying some of my favorite artists as well. 11/10 would dine again. read more

This place was recommended by some friends while here in Italy studying! So so so good! The burgers are all named after famous rock bands and are all very different. There's several meats, cheeses and sides you can choose from. I'm kind of picky so I just built my own burger with chicken which was very good! Stopped in as a "joke" because of the name and ended up being totally blown away by the food. Super customizable menu (meats, cheese, veggies, spreads), all homemade and delicious. Opted for the porchetta (roasted pork) sandwich with broccoli, spicy spread and olive spread. Ingredients were stuffed into a ciabatta-like bread and put on the panini press to warm everything up. Bread was crusty and buttery, the pork was insanely tender with excellent crunch from the skin; broccoli was toothsome; spreads were very flavorful without overpowering the taste of the pork. I would have gone back every single day if I'd had more time. A MUST visit in Trastevere! Bonus: they're open late (until 2 or 3 a.m., usually) and serve a great rotating selection of Italian craft beers. read more

This place is dynamite. Something pretty cool in an area with a lot of touristy stuff to navigate, Donkey Punch is a must-stop for anyone into craft beer and great food. The Blues Brothers (porchetta, radicchio, carmelized onions and more on ciabatta) is unbelievable (especially as a recovery meal after a 5-mile river run) and the only place we encountered with a list of Italian craft birra.
