Long overdue review from our trip in 2024 (pre-Yelp Elite days when I just used Yelp to read reviews, but rarely reviewed anything myself). We spent our last day in Rome resting our feet and enjoying everything available to eat & drink at the Mercato Centrale! We had cappuccinos to start our day, then hung out and had Aperol Spritzes, Hugo Spritzes (elderflower, prosecco, mint, lime), Artichoke trapizzino, a vegan burger, gnocchi, and Maritozzo with hazelnut Gelato throughout the afternoon. My partner was not feeling well so it was a chill place to rest all day and try a lot of different food and drink without walking far. Quite a few vendors but a lot of them selling stuff that is not freshly made, we tried a few vendors but were not impressed. The Italian food hall aka Mercato Centrale is right next to Tremini train station. Perfect place to go to right before or after your trip. We had just finished a 4 hr train ride and were HUNGRY. The entrance is outside the station, but a quick walk. Once you are inside, it's overwhelmingly filled with food galore. Everywhere you look there's an option for desserts, coffee, alcohol, sandwiches, pasta, pizza, meats, American food, Japanese food, and many other Italian specialties. Some tough decisions to be made here. So depending on your appetite, have fun! The piadina wrap came with ham, cheese, greens, tomatoes, and truffle cream. Sounds basic but that truffle cream gave it an edge and the wrap was loaded. The meatballs were so so good! Like rich fatty goodness. The meatball itself was juicy and that tomato sauce was thick and beefy. The braised beef was tender and paired with the salted potatoes and salad it was a well balanced plate. Amazing, the Central Market is adjacent to the train station Roma Termini and has public bathrooms that are free to use with purchase at any store. The store will give you a receipt with QR code that you will scan to enter the bathrooms. The Bathrooms are on the first floor in the back, near the pizzeria. The bathrooms are VERY CLEAN and definitely worth even buying a bottle of water for. Highly recommend the Daniele Meini (La mozzarella e i formaggi) where they have amazing salads, pastas, and sandwiches. Got a mixed salad (insalata mista) with prosciutto and Burrata which was Buonissimo! It came with tomatoes, fresh olives, and a packet of olive oil to add to your liking. They also asked me if I wanted balsamic on top, which was an excellent touch. They also have a pecorino Romano cheese wheel that they will use to cook your pasta in. Don't just take my word for it, upon check out, our hotel staff highly recommended checking in a little early to our train so there's time to check out the Mercado Céntrale! read more

Arriving late in Rome at the Roma Termini station, I was glad that this food market was open only about a block away. There are a lot of different food stalls here. In all honesty, I think this place is just ok but I felt weird about giving it three stars because one of the stalls we visited was actually great. We went to the Mercato Centrale in Bologna and had a lovely experience so I expected that same theme to continue, but I was wrong. Walking in, there was a lot of potential. There are a lot of stalls and endless things to choose from. We were only in Rome for two days, so I wanted to try some of the famous Roma items, like suppli and artichokes. The first place I went to had both roasted and steamed artichokes. I got one of each and appreciated that the person working warmed them up. The steamed was to die for delicious! She also convinced me to try a potato sandwich thing that wasn't warmed up. It was not good. It tasted like it would have been better warmed up. The second place I tried was the suppli place, which also serves other fried items. Again, I can see the potential but cold fried items are just gross. They should re warm them. Also, the service was bad here. I ordered in Italian and the person just stared at me, I actually wondered if I spoke English on accident. Then another person comes up and asks me to speak English please because the other person only speaks Italian. What? This same person was also more interested in flirting with the guy at the stall next door so there's that. The last place we tried was the "American" place (yes, my husband needed a hot chicken sandwich in Rome, even though I was avoiding all the Asian food because we can get that at home) and it was amazing. We really wanted to try this place. There was a charm to being exposed to different food vendors in Italy. Came walking all the way from the Trevi fountain area. 30 miles about. You can do it it was a treck. But be careful we did not know but apparently this is a rough neighborhood. read more

The best thing I had there so far is the pizza cone. That was delicious. The gelato is also good. Some of the reviews say there's bonci pizza but I don't think it's there anymore. CONVENIENT food market at Roma Termini. Lots of different options, so your family members/group members can choose whatever, from steak to Japanese foods! Prices vary greatly from 3.50 euros to over 20 euros. Some of the food counters offered samples, which I enjoyed. The crunchy fried chicken breasts (forgot the picture) were so tasty (13 euros including lettuce salad & roasted potatoes). We got 3 different spulli's (=crochettes), for 3.50 euros each, of which were delicious! My delicious medium rare sirloin salad (with salad & 2 pieces of bread) was 20 euros. In general I love food halls like this one. But the quality of the food here was not the best. I think it may depend on the vendor. If I had to come again, I wouldn't go to the vendors that have food already prepared on display. I went to one of the stalls serving sandwiches and trays of pasta. I ordered the porchetta sandwich and the eggplant parmesan. As I said, it didn't taste fresh. It was similar to what you might buy from a grocery store deli (in the US) or a hospital cafeteria. Ok, first of all this food court set up at the train station is every carb lover's dream!! There are soo many options here, and not just strictly Italian food. I even saw there's ramen, and other Asian foods. Plus, there is a full bar where servers will walk around to check if you'd like to order any alcoholic beverages. How clever are they?? Anywho, I got the cacio de pepe--a simple pasta dish with very minimal ingredients but ohhh soo delicious! I also got a chance to watch the chef make it in front of me. Located conveniently inside Roma Termini (the main train station in Rome) along with tons of other services that one might need while travel here such as car rental, souvenir shops, etc... Fortunately, we both passed out for a good few hours after arriving in Rome, by the time we woke up, it was already early evening, tired, hungry, we didn't feel like looking to go anywhere far, plus, our bnb host recommended this place. Just less than 10minutes walk from where we were at, it wasn't a hard decision to make. I'm not too fond of "food court", but extremely glad we came here. Mercato Centrale is definitely food court on steroid with more than a dashing look, casual, loud (the final World Cup game was going on that night I believe), but intimate regardless. With so many choices to choose from, you'd want to do a full walk through to check out all they have to offer before making the decision of what to get. We had one of the most delicious pizza from here, which I can't remember the name of the shop, but it's located toward the end, across from the center bar. Everything is order to made fresh here, this include pizza and pasta. The desserts and pizza were delizioso! We ordered 2 different pasta, one was something with capers I believe. The other was pasta carbonara with shaved fresh black truffle. Neither one made a memorable impression on us. Except they were a bit pricey, around $20/ea, more or less. The black truffle one was kinda worth it tho. If you're staying nearby or have some time to spare at this train station, I highly recommend checking out this place. The food is usually done quickly. This little mercato, though a little crowded, offers everything you need to get a good meal in before you head off to wherever you're going. From sandwiches to pizza, and even sushi. Although, I doubt you'd get sushi here. We tried a slice from Bonci, which does different flavors of square slices. After a day of walking through Rome we decided to try it out and pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. We ordered some of the alici frite (fried anchovies), some Cartoccio Pesce Fritto (fried cod) from Lluca Saladino's la cucina di mare; a slice of eggplant pizza and focaccia from Gabriele Bonci's il pane e i dolci and a cannoli from Carmelo Pannocchietti's le specialita Siciliane. This place is my jam when I'm in Rome . It can be busy , loud , crowded and chaotic but it's the place to be for good food, fast . Lots of Italian food options but also some American classics : hamburger , hotdog, fries , grilled meats . They offer everything from the most simple food like sandwiches and pizza to fancy truffle dishes. Most important , it's fast, convenient, good portion sizes , reasonably priced and there's no cover charge like you find in most Italian restaurants. There are also free toilets and they offer table service (servers to bring drinks and clean off table ). After your meal , try a dessert called Profiteroles at the food stand connected to the middle bar . It's in a dessert case with an array of other delectable sweets. It will rock your world! We had one last dinner in Rome before heading to the airport and I'm so glad we spent it here! Being right next to the train station, it is incredibly convenient to get a good meal without going too far when you're on the go, especially with luggage. I got a plate of absolutely delicious orecchiette from la pasta fresca, a yummy and fun trapizzino from la trapizzino, and some gelato from il gelato. A little bit of everything here! My hostel told me about this place during my first night but I didn't realize it was actually a fancier food court. I thought it was some hole in the wall sketchy food hall at the train station initially so I skipped it and went to the worst tourist trap pizza place. **BEWARE IF YOU HAVE A U.S. WHITE CDC CARD** They no longer allow you to sit in and eat at the mercato centrale without a green pass. The US white cdc card is no longer sufficient here. Only option is to take away, which is a bummer since the food served there is a lot better fresh and right away. Sad update and disappointing. Really wanted to sit, enjoy food, enjoy a wine or beer, and people watch in this vibrant space. Kind of discriminatory towards foreigners even if fully vaccinated. My eyes were bugging out as I walked thru this gastronomic beauty. Fresh pizza was being rolled to my left, fresh desserts were being dressed to me right, and I spied fresh seafood within the displays. My one regret was I didn't eat here sooner and my hotel was walking distance to this hub. I only ate here on my last day. Bummer. I would have ate here every single day. There is absolutely something for everyone here and the choices are endless! The waiters are attentive and super nice. (Noodles are wheat - I asked) What you want is the Assari Shoyu A healthy cup filled with noodles, onion, a little book choy. Simple ingredients, great flavors - my favorite combo. I'd go for a little less salt - but that's me. You're not going to fill up on this, but not a bad thing with so many other tempting items all around. For me, great comfort food. It is a concept with multiple fresh restaurant counters, pizza, pasta, cheese, beer, wine, bakery, sushi, fresh fish and even more upstairs. Everything is fresh looking and not run down or dirty looking. Actually looks quite new. Came in a Tuesday evening and it was packed with locals. Hard to get a table. Everyone was very helpful and spoke English. Waiters also walk around and can take your drink orders. Excellent place to hang out and eat and drink.
