Directly connected to the train station (Roma Termini), this is the quintessential food market experience for food lovers. We took a return train ride from Venice back to Rome, and were looking for an inexpensive place to quickly grab some food. The trap is set for unsuspecting travelers as soon as you hop off the train, because there are many chain-style restaurants directly in the train station. However, walk about five minutes through a weird/surreal clothing department store and you'll enter into a utopia of Italian Food! From the rice balls (suppli), to Paninis, to pastries, to actual Florentine steaks, to an incredible concoction called the Trapizzino, you have to pay this place a visit. There are three levels that have tables, so if the bottom level is filled, you can just walk up the stairs to level two or three. Level two has a quieter vibe to it with students who are working on their studies while snacking. Highly recommend this place, and the appeal is that you are able to order a multitude of items from different stalls and have several unique experiences all at once. read more

Calling this an Italian food court. Is an understatement. It's a specialty market that does not disappoint. The food is awesome!!!! All kinds of beers and wines. Specialty meats, cheese and truffles, fish and Vegs etc. All the vendors-stores are independent and Specialize in the foods they offer. The baker, butchers and fish mongers and pasta!! The table service is drinks only. To many options to list. FYI the alcohol content is higher so you may not need more than one for a buzz. Very casual and fun atmosphere, long communal tables. FYI as is common in Rome, public restrooms means 1$ euro. And don't expect American toilets. As you may be expected to squat. Community service Mesage. Located Near the train Rome station. Two blocks. It's worth a visit. The pizza maybe the winner in my opinion as I think simpler is better in Rome. For me Pasta with olive oil is always a winner. Ordering an exotic sauce maybe not what you looking for. However the meats are offer options not found so easy in USA, sheep on skewer is a specialty, small chunks of lean and tasty meat. A mild flavor that is not beef. One thing is for sure eat Where the locals eat. And the prices are reasonable and the locals use the trains and eat here. Across the street and near by are luggage storage, be careful not so cheap...the city in general is geared to tourists, so use caution as with any big city. Don't leave things unattended. If paying with Credit cards you don't give the merchant the card. They bring the card reader to you. read more

This was one of my favorite stops in Rome. I love a market type food court. There were so many amazing food options to choose from. My favorite was the little pizza counter. I watched them roll out my my pizza dough, top it with fresh ingredients and toss it in the oven. This was one of the BEST margarita pizzas I've ever had. I have no idea how they make the dough so perfectly. I was soft, chewy and slightly crispy. PERFECTION. I wish I could have eaten the whole thing. I have been dreaming of this pizza ever since I left. You can't beat the price at 8 euros. The also have an amazing wine bar. I ordered a glass of sweet white and enjoyed the ambiance. There are locals eating and watching the game on large screens. There is a lot going on but it's not loud. I also indulged in a cannoli. IT WAS A DREAM. So creamy. So delicious. I wanted to skip dinner and only eat cannoli's. They fill them fresh and the textures were on point. Take the time to stop in at this market. It's so worth it! read more

The nicest food court ever...everything from steak Florentine to sushi. It's a little bit of everything with a heavy focus on Italian specialties, given Mama isn't in back cooking it all the staff were super nice. Beer and wine were a bit spendy by local standards but everything we ate was 3.5 - 4.5 stars. A very good value, it's a bit hidden but keep going behind the Coin store and you got some good eats...went back the following night and had the rib eye Florentine and the sucker was cooked perfectly, must have been 30+ day dry aged well worth the 60+ Euros for a kilo plus with the chips two counters down you have a killer steak frites! 4.5 stars for the 2nd meal, mind you I come from foodie San Francisco. read more

Right on Termini, if you are staying near the station, this is an easy choice. Something for everyone - not inexpensive, actually a little bit on the high side if you're willing to venture in the neighborhood, but otherwise solid. There is a good array of prosciutto and excellent bread, sushi if you want it, although it's unfortunate the sushi station is right across a live seafood stall, so you can smell the fish and might imagine it's the sushi. We ended up having burgers and the beef patty was so good - juicy on the inside and nicely charred on the outside, and it's a thick one. La Tyvola, il vino e la dispense is the restaurant I am reviewing and is located in the Mercato Centrale but doesn't have a separate page... I researched this place because Oliver Glowig was the chef here and ran a michelin star restaurant prior to it being closed. We were taking the train and this place is excellent if you are at the station early and want a great meal. The food was delicious and looked beautiful on the plate. The table and setting is also modern and comfortable. The food is likely a little more on the expensive side than the other food in the train station. The chef was sitting at the restaurant and I thought he might say hello, but I felt like he kind of snubbed his nose at the americans (us...). But thats okay. Find the following separate stations: Pizza in the back of the place to the left corner with great diavola pizza (margherita with spicy sausage); closer to the left front area is where there is basically a rotisserie meat section where you can buy delicious lamb skewers; and you MUST HAVE THE trapizzino especially with beef tongue and green sauce (AMAZING) read more

I was in Rome for 8 hrs. I had googled and Yelped pasta places. I choose a small Italian place it was on my way to the Colosseum (12 min walk) What a disappointment to so the least. Luckily enough after walking to the Colosseum, I walked back to aroma Terminal to catch my bus to the airport. Boy what a surprise inside the bus terminal was il mercato CENTRALE ROMA. This is probably the best decent priced food in Rome. The truffle shop is amazing where they make truffle pasta and Carpaccio with fresh truffle slices on top. This was a cool stop. It is basically the best food court you've ever been to either inside or adjacent to the main train station. Bonus, you get to try several Italian craft beers on tap and in bottles. Every kind of food you could want, most of it good to very good is available. A full wine and liquor bar as well. Great place to try so many different foods. This food court has about fifteen stalls with different food artisans. Each stall had their own specialities, offering five or six different things. We had Cannolis three separate occasions, as well as trying their pizza, gelato, burgers, sushi, among other things. There is a bar in the middle of the court that has waiters who do rounds to get alcohol orders. Everything is worth trying, if not a tad bit pricey, but there are so many options it would be hard not to find anything worth trying. During dinner, the place is very crowded and it can be a little difficult to find a solo table, so you might have to eat with a stranger. read more

I walked into this place one night when I got off the train from Pisa. As I was wondering to eat and trying think the way back to my hotel. I saw a lot of people were gathering on the street. First I thought was a night club but I food on the left side on the entrance. I walked in and tried to find out what was it about. I saw a food court. It reminds me of Grand Central Station, but it's much nice. Each restaurant has a nice open kitchen. You will find all kind of cheap tasty Italian dishes. From fresh made pasta to dessert, steak to fritte seafood. That night was one year anniversary so free vino. It's a good place to eat. As I know there are two locations. One is at the Roma Termini and one is inside Saint Lorenzo Market in Florence. read more

In our case, we went to Il Trapizzino - It's a fairly new creation that is like a pizza-inspired triangular sandwich. The triangular bread has a slice in the middle where you can get any number of pizza fillings/stuffings. read more

I've heard of Mercato Centrale in Firenze but didn't know there would be one in Roma as well. Literally almost everything you would want to try is in this convenient location! From Bonci (yes, the renowned one near Vatican!) to Trapizzino to Roman pastas (cacio e pepe, carbonara, rigatoni) to even sushi/ramen or burgers there's everything you'd ever want to satisfy your Italian foodie dreams. I kept coming back here for my meals because my accommodation was close but more importantly I LOVED the Napoli pizza station (magherita! 8€) I would've tried more things but sadly I had to be realistic on how much I could eat and the pizza just called to me. Perfect balance of chewiness, soft and doughy while the flavors were so simple but intense. They make it fresh to order and you can watch them roll the dough and stick it in the oven. I've also had a cannoli(3€)here (also filled to order) and that was pretty tasty but it was my first one ever so I've got nothing to compare it to. I've had the cacio e Pepe (7€) from the pasta station and that was deliciously creamy and freshly ground pepper was so fragrant (I'll admit the descriptions aren't the most exciting but don't knock it till you try it !) Bonci's selection here isn't as vast but if you really want to try, its here too! This place is perfect for solo diners to big groups. Also there are bathrooms near the end. read more

Trash!!!!!!! Stay away. When it comes to the Pizza stand, don't even bother. The staff was rude, we get to their stand at 1140am and were told they won't start serving till 12(which is fine) we go up at 12pm and then were told wait another 15 at that point we were hot, annoyed and hungry. There's so many restaurants, don't know why the hotel recommended this place to begin with. read more

Mercato Centrale Roma opened in October in the Stazione Termini, Rome's main train station. It is on the back side of the station (Via Giovanni Giolitti 36). This is a new venture by Florentine businessman Umberto Montano, which was modeled after the Central Market in Florence. The market is open every day from 7:00 am until midnight. It is one giant food hall offering every kind of food from a wide variety of vendors. You name you will find it here. I decided to try a Pizza Fritta Porchetta (€5) from il fritto - Martino Bellincampi. This sandwich was made to order. They took dough and fried it up and layered porchetta on it. It was so tasty. My husband tried a ham and cheese panino (€6) from Il formaggio - Beppe Giovale. He was not as thrilled with the panino as he said it was too dry. From La Cafeteria, he purchased two bottles of water (€3). So for €14, we sat at a table enjoyed our lunch. If you go, take your time, walk thru, see what is there and then make a decision. read more

Food: 5 stars. I came here several times and the food was delicious BUT one vendor on the second floor ruined a first experience for me. It is the one that sold salads. I am positive my experience was only unique to that one employee: a young girl with a parted bob haircut. Here was what happened: I ordered a salad with sides for 7.50 Euros. I paid 22.50 to get exact change. She collected my money and promptly closed the register. I said, excuse me, I need change. She then opened the register to give me 10 euros. Hmmm. Yes maybe I looked tired, touristy and gullible but I did not like being taken advantage of!!!! She still owed me 5 but she closed the register and wanted to go towards the salad bar. I quickly said, you still owe me money.. and to my surprise she knew she owed me 5 and gave me a 5. If this were a true mistake, that's okay because we are humans and we make mistakes, but she was clearly trying to rip me off. I was so disappointed I wrote a little note in Italian (thanks to Google translate) to the other employees to express my disappointment. They were apologetic and said she was "very tired." Please do not ever do that to your customers! Your salad is delicious, so please do not ruin the experience by ripping me off. read more

Anyone travelling to Rome must stop at the Mercato Centrale! The quality and variety of food is second to none! Il pesce fresco station is excellent. You must try the calimari or the sauteed mussels (they're wild not farmed and extremely fresh). The bartenders make fabulous drinks - be sure to try the mojitos you won't be disappointed. The Margherita pizza is fantastic! The people are exceptionally friendly and take pride in the quality of service and food. read more
