This is one of those places I really, really wanted to love and become a regular. My first try from Pandemic donuts was a Vanilla donut. Pretty standard, can't go wrong...or so I thought. Well made dough but the donut was just soaked with grease. I had it in a paper bag that was just destroyed with oil after a few minutes. You could not really taste the vanilla as the oil was so overwhelming. It left a brick of regret in my stomach for the next few hours. Thinking it was a one-off, I went back and purchased a blueberry donut. The same brick of regret. I am not sure if they do not drain them properly or if their dough recipe just causes them to absorb more oil but this place is a hard no for me. Have had these a few times at the Farmers Market and love the Churro donut. The consistency of these are unique, lighter than a cake donut but more substantial than a glazed. However , tried a brownie last weekend and WOW! Absolutely delicious. Sampled a few donuts from when they were at the Highlands Farmers Market. I tried a basic cinnamon sugar, so light and fluffy and not too sweet from the sugar coating. Ok I'm going to be honest; I used to be a raised donut only kind of gal and really was not a fan of cake donuts AT ALL...and you will notice the key word in that sentence is used to be. The most exciting but; while they still are doing donut delivery (who doesn't love fresh, delicious donuts delivered directly to your door) they also have a brick and mortar so now you can get their donuts WHENEVER YOU WANT! Hallelujah! The only downfall is this if fairly close to me so every day I wake up and have to convince myself *not* to get more donuts! Also their flavors are so unique and creative. Out of terrible circumstances come some lovely things. Pandemic Donuts is one of those things. When they lost their jobs to the pandemic shutdown, a couple started donut delivery. I finally tried them, getting a half dozen assorted donuts delivered on a Sunday morning. They delivered as promised between 8AM and 10AM, texting me to let me know they were there. They put them in my cooler on my porch as requested--aggressive neighborhood squirrels would snatch them in a second if left on the table on my porch. (Ask me about the hold they chewed into a previous delivery box!) The rest of the morning is a blur. I recall opening the box, making some coffee, and swooning over the deliciousness. I liked the old fashioned donut (banana in this case) texture best. It wasn't as heavy as some old fashioned donuts can be. Blackberry lavender was good too--the lavender was not subtle, and I appreciated that. Key lime and maple nut were also bursting with flavor. There was no self-control around these donuts. I wish I could order them regularly, but if I did then I might need to buy bigger pants. Flavors change daily, and donuts sell out. I missed my opportunity a few times, checking the website too late to get in on the flavors that sounded best to me. Check the website at the beginning of the week for the week's scheduled flavors, and place your order in advance to be sure you get in the on the delicious action. Okay, I love donuts, I mean LOVE!! I've had just about every donut place in Denver. I have been wanting to have these donuts for so long. Then I had them at the Pearl Street Farmers Market and I was incredibly disappointed, shocked, they were so bad, flavorless, and greasy. It didn't even matter what kind I got, as we got a couple. The entire paper bag was covered in grease 10min after purchasing them, worse than fast food French fries. I'm not sure if it was a mistake batch or what but I've never been sick from donuts and I was sick after these due to the grease. I will never have them again. My 4 year old niece didn't even like them. SHE'S A KID, and didn't like donuts, unheard of! But I'm glad I tried because I would have always wondered. These are the best donuts I have EVER had! Super easy ordering process on the Pandemic Donuts website. I have placed an order both for myself and for a friend. Delivered at my door at 7:30 am and I received a call/text to advise me they had been delivered. They are standard donut size, the 12 donuts came in 5 flavors, and were simultaneously vegan/gluten free. For someone who has both egg and gluten allergy, it was AWESOME to find a place that can accommodate my dietary needs. Wonderful product and even better customer service.
