My one and a half year old daughter was due for her first haircut and a friend of mine recommended The Panda Room. She had taken her boys there and said they had done a nice job so I thought I would try it out. The stylist that cut my daughter's hair was very nice and did a good job with the cut. I gave the woman who cut her hair a 25% tip and then noticed my daughter was due for a diaper change. This is where things took a turn for the worse. The woman who cut her hair suggested I use their diaper changing facilities in the bathroom in their salon. Great, I thought much better than trying to change her in the car and a nice bonus in a children's hair salon. I took my daughter into the bathroom and found they had a complete set up with a Koala fold out changing station etc. I changed my daughter and disposed of the diaper in the trash can provided. As I was leaving (carrying my daughter, my diaper bag and a wiggly, tired 1 1/2 year old) the other woman in the salon (presumably the manager or owner...although I do not know this for sure) stopped me and asked what I had done with the dirty diaper after changing my daughter. I was surprised by the question and embarrassed in front of several other customers in the room. I told her I had left it in the bathroom in their trash bin. Then she asked if I could remove it and take it with me. I was stunned and now more embarrassed and not sure I was totally understanding what she was asking. I repeated her request..."you would like me to go into the trash and collect the dirty diaper and take it with me?" . "Yes" she said, "you can put it in one of the trash cans in the mall area". I was now very embarrassed and not sure how to handle the logistical issue of collecting the diaper with my daughter, all our things and taking it to a trash can in the mall. The stylist who had cut my daughter's hair seemed embarrassed too and said, "I'll do it, don't worry." and since it was obvious I had violated some serious rule and did not want the stylist to be responsible, I just said no, I'll do it. I managed to fish it out of the trash can with some paper towels and carry it out (in front of all the customers now watching and interested) and disposed of it in one of the trash cans in the mall. I thought about this situation a lot on our drive back to the city and was not sure if I had somehow done something wrong to deserve the treatment I was given. I thought maybe people always take their dirty diapers with them and I have all along been wrong in leaving them in various public bathrooms where I have changed my daughter. But I came to these conclusions...1) It is a children's hair salon and they offered their facilities to be used for diaper changing plus there was no sign indicating to take your diaper with you. 2) Even if that had been expected it was uncalled for to embarrass a customer in front of other customers in the room. 3) Assuming there were no other customers in the room they could have discretely removed it after customers had left and then put up a sign indicating to customers to take their diapers with them. Overall I am disappointed that her first haircut experience had to end on that note and I just wanted to tell other moms and dads about it so they can try another kids salon that might be a bit more kid friendly. Today we had a worst experience in a haircut. The worst haircut my child had! Simply awful. I came to this panda room and show a video with the previous haircut that my son had, I was explaining and show ( video, pictures) every single detail, about his haircut. The woman told me that she understand and will do. I was asking for several times do You understand what I mean and so on. In the middle of a haircut I saw that she is planning to do my son hair bold, I was starting to put my arms on his hand crying : STOP DOING IT, the baby was crying, but she didn't stop, may be she was deaf??? I was absolutely out of myself!!! I asked her a book for complains, but they don't have it. Then another " professional" came and told me, that what's the problem, his hair will grow... Do You want that they will learn how to cut hair on Your children? People think about it... Yes, my son's hair will grow, but the level of professionalism never with such promotions, I asked her would You like I cut you bold??? Because Your hair will grow one day???? I want to like it, I really do because my son loves this place, but have not had a good haircut, every time we leave and I just swear I will never give into my son's pleas again to go back. We have had many great hair cuts, and great experiences here. They have a fun play area for the kids to wait and they do very professional work. We have worked with more than stylist but Tracy's service today was exceptional. She was so sweet and accommodating. It is well worth the drive from San Francisco! read more

Our family loves the Panda Room! We live in SF and always make the drive to Corte Madera because this is such a great place and so worth going the extra mile for (literally). Until most recently, my 3-year old son was a huge screamer who detested getting his hair cut and the "bedside manner" of the stylists at Panda Room is second to none. That makes all the difference in the world. They are sweet, understanding, and really good at what they do, delivering good haircuts to nervous/scared toddlers (and their anxious parents) done quickly (Kimberly is our favorite stylist - she's so good). Every haircut my son has done at the Panda Room been good - I'd recommend being specific as to what you want for your child. They have lollipops as rewards too - nice touch. As a fun side bonus, there is an excellent park just down the road from Panda Room. A lollipop and a great park after a haircut always make for a happy toddler. :) read more

I have had several of my son's haircuts here- but the first time with Joella and she did an exceptional job. Not only was she kind, professional she was very sanitary with her tools and the toys and also gave my son the very very very best haircut. I cannot say enough about her. We just took my two-year-old daughter for her first professional (non-mommy administered) haircut. She is a very active and determined little girl who doesn't love to have her hair combed, so she was NOT the easiest client in the salon. The stylist who cut her hair did a great job of sizing my daughter up and deciding the best approach for cutting her hair. The stylist advised me sitting in the chair and holding my daughter in my lap and she worked very quickly, trimming up long curls in the back and straightening and neatening up bangs in the front. It helped that she gave my daughter a huge lollipop, but still the stylist only had a few good minutes to work with and I think the results look great! The stylist was really patient when my daughter squirmed and she kept trying new things to distract her when my daughter would try to break free. Honestly, it was $23 well spent and we will definitely go back for the next haircut, which hopefully will be easier for all involved. The thing to keep in mind is that every child is different and these stylists have to deal with a lot of different kinds of kids. There was a three-year-old sitting in the chair next to us who sat there very seriously and calmly, so that stylist had 20 or 30 minutes to work with. Our poor stylist had about 5 to 7 minutes to work with - a much bigger challenge, but I would say she rose to the occasion! read more

Both my boys have been going to Carolyn since their first hair cuts (they are 4 and 2). She is fast, and gives them a great cut. She knows just how to cut a squirmy toddlers hair. My son cried for every cut for 2 years and she was great at handling him while also getting a good cut quick. Even though he cried, he still always loved Carolyn. The panda room was recomended to me by my friend who has a little girl she takes there. As soon as I walked in I could tell the women who was helping us had lots of experience. It was comfortable and friendly with lots of other kids for my son to play with. Great cut and he loved the lollipop. The whole experience was good. Glad I found them. read more

This place is terrible. I have 7 year old twin boys and both came out with bad haircuts. One has very straight hair with two cowlicks in the back. If his hair gets cut too short it will stand straight up. I pointed that out to the older, gray haired lady, and she said: oh, I know, those double cowlicks make for great mohawks - jokingly - or so I thought. She ends up giving my son this uneven haircut which is way too short so that his hair stands up every which way! My other son has more forgiving hair, but the lady who cut his hair was not good either. Not terrible, but just not good and also uneven between both sides. Had my sons not been there right next to me I would have refused to pay for the cowlick mess up. (This place is way over priced!) I didn't want my son to feel bad about his haircut. I took my daughter here ONCE and never returned. I cringe even when I walk by the place. I took my daughter for her first haircut at 12 months old. I'm not going to blame the place for my daughter hating getting her hair cut. I blame the place for NOT ATTEMPTING to make her more comfortable. Upon walking in, there were no other kids or customers but, there were about 3 stylists there obviously in the middle of gossip hour chatting away. Our gal, instructs me to place my little one on the booster seat, throws a cape on my daughter who HATES this. She leaves it on anyway. "Can she sit on my lap?" I ask. "If you want." she says. Great idea mom. Shouldn't this stylist who specializes in kids' cuts thought of that? Anyway, my daughter cries harder now because stranger lady with scissors has now sprayed water on her with scary spray bottle. After spraying her a couple times, she then figures out it may be better to just wet her hand and wet my daughter's hair that way. Is this her first day? She sometimes talked to my little girl, but most of the time, she was reacting to whatever the other ladies were gossiping about...Oh yeah, by the way... somewhere during this, she did offer my 12 month old little girl this SMALL plastic black and white transformer monster creature to play with from her hairy basket of toys for my daughter to play with or choke on, I wasn't sure? I was like, No, thanks. Anyway, the scissors literally closed twice I think, they charged me 20-something bucks and I have a certificate with a picture of my crying baby. Yay! It's been about 10 months since then.. I took her to see Eddie at Children's Hair Club. HE rules!!! read more

Last Saturday my 4 year old little guy was going for his first "real" haircut. Things started out pretty good as the stylist sprayed his hair and began to comb it out. She was a bit rough as his hair was shoulder length but he tolerated it fairly well. I had specifically requested her to cut his bangs and the length in the back. As the haircut progressed, the right side was done as was the back. Then she nudged his face to turn right so the left side could be cut, without telling him what she wanted him to do ( IE. look to the right, distract him etc) he began to cry and wanting to get out of the chair. As I lifted him up the stylist says to me "I can't believe he just turned on a dime!" I attempted to comfort him as she was wanting to cut his bangs as his head is going from side to side. I told her to stop and that this was just a haircut and we would be leaving. She then responded "He won't remember!" at this point I am shocked at this stylist's behavior. I immediately carry my little guy to the counter, pay the bill and leave. As we are going out the door I hear the woman say under her breath "In six years I have never not finished a haircut". The experience here was horrible and my son left with half a haircut. And yes, 4 year olds remember! read more

My experience at the Panda Room today motivated me to start an account on Yelp. Between my two sons, we've had about 10 haircuts at the Panda Room in Corte Madera. Some visits are better than others as there are a few stylists who are child-friendly. Today, we had a horrible experience with their notorious customer service, and as I read these other reviews I see we're not alone. We had appointments at 4 pm for both of my sons. One stylist finished early and started on my 20 month old (Naomi). She did a wonderful job. The other (Dior?) was with another customer. When she finished and it was time for my 4 year old, she rudely stated in front of him that she wasn't going to cut his hair, and that she had already cut another patron with the same name earlier in the day and erased my son's name, thinking they were the same person. When my son asked if he was going to get his haircut, she said no and then stormed out of the shop. My son was so upset as he was looking forward to his hair cut, and felt like he had done something wrong. Fortunately, we walked over to Supercuts and they took him immediately, did a great job, were welcoming and very child-friendly, and made us feel like they valued our business. read more
