The best experience one could ask for! My friend and I called on a Friday evening (black Friday). We called ahead and even though we wouldn't arrive until 630, just 30 minutes before their closing time, they said to come on down. The husband and wife team were so sweet and professional. They didn't rush any of the work, did both of our gel manicures and my pedicure perfectly and chatted with us the entire time we were there. We felt so bad that they stayed last 8pm and they kept reassuring us not to worry. Neither my friend nor I ever had to point out anything we wanted fixed or ask for anything to be done because when doing our nails they checked, fixed and made sure they were perfect on their own. Their friendly and welcoming vibe is a huge reason we will be back but also, they do not use acetone, or do acrylics - they are all organic and natural because they try to avoid toxins and chemicals. The 2 owners are the only ones providing services so you know you're getting the best. Their gel manis last up to 4 weeks!! Shape is always perfect (I get round or almond). I absolutely love this place. I don't typically post reviews - but I picked this salon at random today (after trying quite a few places around Marin, most of which I have found disappointing), and I could not be happier that I did! By far the best mani pedi I have gotten. My pedicure and gel manicure are perfectly matched and I can't spot a single flaw. Also - I do not usually enjoy getting my nails done - like AT ALL. But this place is so relaxing and the couple who worked on me were so sweet! They took their time, paid so much attention to detail, and even stayed past their closing time to finish. Chi and Tai are wonderful human beings. Tai did my pedicure and I was thoroughly impressed. In the corner of the store is a fiddle leaf fig towering all the way to the ceiling which he nursed back to health from the brink of death! That should give you a sense of what a healing, nurturing place this is. The foot massage was the best I've experienced during a pedicure. My toes look great and I love that they used a little handheld machine for going over your calluses instead of someone hand rubbing them (it always tickles too much that way). It has been a long time time since I have last reviewed this amazing oasis in Marin. I am currently visiting the spa now as part of a ritual I look forward to each visit back to the area. There is absolutely no better nail spa I have encountered globally. The service is friendly, particularly with the owners: Chi and Tai. The quality is amazing. My nails consistently stay in great condition for a month, so I am able to make it back here without having to resort to going elsewhere closer to where I live. I can't speak highly enough about Polish. I paid $25 for a regular manicure, just regular polish, nothing special - plus tip it came to About $30. But the nails all chipped in 3 days. I was able to book my first appointment with them pretty quickly over the phone only a couple hours in advance. My experience at Polish Nail Spa was kind of a mix and here's why. My first thought when I walked in was it was really stuffy in there. The owner came to greet me himself and asked if I wanted a drink. He kept telling me to sit down when I was trying to put my stuff away... and it was dusty everywhere that I didn't even want to put my stuff down on the floors. I got a mani-pedi combo so I had Tina doing pedicure and Mai doing manicure. Both were doing a great job. Tina seemed very friendly, but Mai seemed annoyed the entire time. She actually did a great job on my nails, but was not very considerate. My tea was put in the cup holder where she didn't bother to move it. She just started filing my nails so of course, it went everywhere including in my drink. I was looking for an air purifier in there, but it was nowhere to be found hence why it was so stuffy. The nail technicians all wore their masks, but I was breathing in that air. An hour in there was a bit rough. The great part was that they both gave me a little massage after which was very nice, but not enough to make me come back the 2nd time. read more

Not even saying "we can take you in an hour or whatever time.. hmmm not a good first impression. I don't think I will come back and give them my business. To the customer it only takes 7 seconds to make a good first impression.. true fact! And you know first impressions are everything. I can't say enough good things about Polish. I've tried just about EVERY nail salon in Marin and several in the city. Nothing compares and here's why. Every time I go to some other salon, if I'm out of town or something, my nails get chewed up and end up brittle and thin. Not so at Polish! Chi is a master of perfection, in terms of old gel removal, new gel application and making it all last. At other places, I've had to go back every week because, well, cuticles. Somehow, Chi manages to make them behave and not get hangnails for 2 weeks to a month. It's beyond amazing...and saves me $$$ in the long run. As another reviewer mentioned, their massages are second to none as well. Basically I go for a gel mani, gel pedi and extra massage, and it's my spa day. What the what ?!? My goodness, it must be nice to turn away business. I suppose when you are one of the highest rated nail salons in San Rafael on Yelp, its not like you need every customer to leave delighted. On the other hand, if you aren't trying hard for your new customers too, you may lose a few. This is not a good a place to attempt a walk-in. I had tried calling ahead (call not returned) and decided to chance it by going first thing on a weekday AM. As you can probably tell, I was turned away on a not terribly busy Friday morning at 10:30 am. I was told I'd have to wait until 5:00 pm same day to get a pedicure. What the what?!? You and I know nail salons triage customers who don't come for the full manicure plus pedicure. They want to make more money per client, and in this case $40 (and up) for their mani pedi combo is on the high end for a spot in the area. A nail salon though that will accommodate a pedicure, is a gracious salon. I can't say the place felt very busy (five customers and seven employees) but they do have very limited chairs (just five pedi chairs.) Several customers were already drying and it seemed very doable to take a walk-in, however, Polish was not able to make that work. Certainly they could make room for one more? Nope. Maybe if I explained that I had called for an appointment unsuccessfully (call not returned) and then decided to drive quite a way from my home to try them out? Nope. I'm not convinced Polish couldn't accommodate a walk-in, but they certainly chose not to. I'm afraid I won't be getting a polish at Polish! read more

First the good stuff: they really REALLY massage you. Not that perfunctory half-assed hand massage you get in most places where they bend your hands a little back and forth with some stinky, fruity smelling lotion and barely rub. Here if you get a mani pedi combo, you get your feet and upper back, shoulders, arms AND hands rubbed with really nice oil. This is stellar. For this alone, I will return! Their skill is impeccable too. I got the gel nail polish on my hands and a regular pedi: both were absolutely perfect. On the downside: this is an hour and forty five minute (or more) process so make sure you've got the time (and the quarters for that meter!) The chairs are comfy enough but no massage. This is actually fine with me because I've found most massage chairs to be pretty lame anyway - plus they more than make up for it with their incredible, lengthy massages! Decor is pretty blah - but it is clean. There is a 'quiet' rule which is nice in a way because at least noone is yapping away on a cell phone. They charged me extra to remove my gel polish because it was from a different salon. I thought that was really lame and kind of rude. They should have informed me of that prior to doing so. Overall though: decent but pretty expensive and time-consuming. But I will come back for the great massage alone. That really makes it worthwhile. Question: how come none of these nail places serves wine? In Florida (where I lived for 6 years prior to moving here) the best salons served wine. There is nothing like having a great spa treatment and some cheap chard to close a hectic day! I do miss that... read more

An unexpectedly lovely find in downtown San Rafael! I stopped in for a quick mani/pedi before an event last night. I was seated right away and taken care of by an amazing nail tech named Mai (sp?). The (non-gel, plain old) polish on my fingers lasted for nearly a week and two weeks later, my cuticles still look like they were just done. My bar for nail salons, set by so many that missed it, had been lowered to polish lasting 48 hours and leaving the shop not bleeding from sloppy work. MY HOLY GRAIL NAIL SALON. I moved out to San Rafael about two years ago and this is by far my favorite nail salon in Marin. Chi is the owner and she's one of the most down to earth women I know. She pays very close attention to every single detail, she's to the point, and I'm always satisfied when I leave. I usually get shellac + pedicure = $55 without tip. My shellac lasts about two weeks sometimes even longer and my pedicure can last almost a month! Customer service is everything here. Come try it out! read more
