Horrible Pad Thai

Although there are many 4 and 5 stars for this restaurant, I thoroughly disagree with them. Overall, this place produced some of the more white washed, bland, and overall disappointing Thai food in the area. My girlfriend and I ordered Pad Thai (Spice 3), Lemongrass Pork Slices (Spice 4), and Steamed Pork Dumplings. All of which had issues. The bigger issue at play here is this cost us almost $50 which is an egregious amount of money for the quality. Let's start with the Steamed Pork Dumplings. They tasted frozen, and overall had a weird texture. Overall, these weren't the worst in the order but they definitely left alot to be desired. The filling was alright but overall they were very dough-ey and lacked texture. 4/10 The Lemongrass Pork was three slices of pork. We could only taste sugar in the marinade, with almost nothing else. They were also cooked VERY well leaving most bites tough. The description of the item said it would be served with braised onions, none were found. Lastly, I paid an extra $2 to add steamed vegetables which were all bland and felt like they were from a freezer bag. 2/10 The worst of it all was the Pad Thai. To even think the chef tasted this and let it get out of the kitchen is insane. It had no flavor. Let me repeat, it tasted like nothing. The best I could compare to is wet shoes. The noodles were just oily and bland. Further, the "lime" that was served was brown. It was an absolute disgrace to Pad Thai, and in general, Thai noodle dishes. Overall, this was EAISILY the worst Thai food I've ever had in the Lafayette / Louiseville area. I recommend going to Busaba in Louiseville for real food and flavor.

Bangkok duck

If you're looking for authentic Thai cuisine in Lafayette, Panang is it!! We got the Bangkok duck and beef with green curry sauce. They were delicious! We will be trying more dishes on their menu. Take out was fast and easy. Our dishes were ready in 20 min. Portion is generous. Price is reasonable. If you get the white rice it comes with the dishes, a little more for the brown rice. Their food is as authentic as some of the Thai restaurants in NYC.

"Shrimp" in black bean sauce with

I ordered shrimp with black bean sauce with two orders of extra shrimp. What I received were barely any shrimp and combined with beef. The shrimp was stale and the spinach didn't seem washed. The sauce was bland with barely any black bean flavor. I wouldn't be surprised if I have food poisoning. I will never be ordering from here again. Tonight was one of the worst food ordering experiences of my life.

This place is great! Love the flavors and friendliness of the staff. Definitely a top place to eat in Lafayette and my go to Thai place. They really excel at the options, with a ton of authentic dishes and real flavor. I love the Summer Rolls, Pad Thai with tofu, and most of all, the Honeydew Boba tea. You can't go wrong with those! They have a ton of boba flavors, so you can try a bit of everything! The peanut sauce is great too, not spicy and sweet instead. Vegetables are fresh and tasty too.

From another visit... Thai sweet basil with chicken. Super flavorful!!

Long overdue review - our visit was pre-pandemic, and I'm just now getting around to finishing this. Oops... Nonetheless, this place has been on my list of bookmarked restaurants for friggin' ever. It just so happens that we were feeling hungry right at the time we drove by. How about that. Lafayette is a pretty quaint little place, and has a really cool, historic downtown. Panang Thai is in a small-ish little strip mall near the heart of downtown, and is pretty unassuming at first glance. You may end up driving right by at first if you're not keeping an eye our for it. The parking situation hasn't been an issue for us so far, but it's kind of tight, so be wary of the time you decide to drop in. I can only assume that with all the other businesses around, it may become somewhat tricky to find a spot once things start getting busy. Like many other restaurants of this size, the dining area is pretty open and full of two- to four-top tables. The cashier is smack dab in the middle of the back, and the kitchen is hidden behind a wall. The walls are plastered with blown up images of some of their more popular dishes, and a decent size fish tank adorns the sitting area for patrons' viewing pleasure lol. Each time I've been in, there are typically between one and three other lone diners or couples speckling the restaurant, so we have always been immediately greeted and led to a table and left with waters and menus. It never takes us too long to decide on what to order - and let me just say that I'd like to visit more so that I can try a bunch of different things on the menu - and our food is always brought out quickly. The lunch size portions are a good size, and perfect for those that may be a bit on the hungry side. I don't normally have it in me to finish my entire meal, but it seems to always be the perfect amount for my BF. Service is fast, the price point is absolutely reasonable for what you get, the atmosphere is light and pretty open, and staff have always been friendly. This is a great place to grab a quick bite for lunch, and I can honestly say that I have never had anything less than an awesome experience. Next on the list is to stop by for dinner! From the looks of it, they've got a pretty respectable alcohol selection, which I can't say I'd be opposed to trying lol!

Massaman chicken curry with brown rice

Solid dinner. Stopped in on a Saturday night. Seated right away. Good service, good food, clean and bright. The servers were a little over-attentive, polite and knowledgeable. We got the crab rangoon and it was really good! We got the drunken noodles and massaman curry - both were fine. Not very spicy. The server never asked how spicy we wanted the food so we probably should have been proactive. Biggest challenge was finding parking - the megachurch was just getting out when we arrived. Church attendees are not supposed to park in the retail but clearly they do.

We love this place most of the time. Lately, it has not been as good. We hope they improve the quality and get back to what they used to be. Burned anything shouldn't be acceptable.

Panang curry with white rice in a cute little heart shape

I ordered pad thai with chicken. Thought it was great, and the service was fast and very friendly! We were two of six people in the restaurant at the time, and the waitress was very attentive with coming to check on us and making menu recommendations. My bf had the panang curry and didn't love it -- the veggies in it were sliced into huge portions, it was thinner than he'd like, and his 3/5 spice rated more like a 1 or 2 to him. Alas, this isn't his Yelp review, it's mine. So 5 stars from me!

Green papaya salad.

This is the kind of restaurant I love for a simple lunch or dinner, moderately priced and tasty food. The atmosphere is not fancy, but inviting and pleasant, with a few personal touches that make it interesting enough. Last time I went for lunch with my daughter, our waitress was very friendly and everything was fresh and yummy. For starters, we shared a generous order (8 pieces) of crispy vegetables dumplings. Then, I had a good papaya salad and also ordered the chicken satay, moist and very appetizing with its deep golden color. My daughter had the Pad Thai and really liked it. A Thai coffee was perfect to satisfy our sweet tooth, we did not even need a dessert. Great local place!

What we swallowed: *THAI EGG ROLLS: These were tasty. *FRIED TOFU *POTSTICKERS *TOM KHA: Very good. We really liked the fresh veggies in the soup. *DRUNKEN NOODLE; There was something about this dish we couldn't place our fingers on that tasted off. *THREE TASTE CHICKEN: Crunchy, breaded chicken with sauce and steamed broccoli. *RED CURRY BEEF: We didn't realize there was eggplant in this dish. *DEEP FRIED FISH IN GINGER SAUCE: So I ordered this dish specifically because it said 'deep fried' but it did not come out that way. May a quick sear but not deep fried. *MANGO STICKY RICE: This was really good. We would come here for this alone. Our favorite was the tom kha and the mango sticky rice. The other dishes were OK. Still on the search for a thicker curry...

We usually order same, a soup and a curry and at times, we order dessert of mango and sticky rice. Most of time the dessert is pretty good, but there are times when the mango is sour and it really turns mee off to ordering it. We pay so much extra for dessert, we would like sweet mangoes and if they don't have it, they should say, instead of giving us sour mangoes. I have never eaten there, I can't even say, I picked up orders there. It's mostly my husband. I have ordered online and it's very specific, which is nice if you're picky eater. We usually order there pretty often and soup, with curry always meets expectations. It's just the dessert.

Bangkok Avenue delivered a large take-out order for five people last nite that was, from start to…read morefinish, deeply forgettable. The common thread across every dish was not inconsistency but uniform blandness. What arrived on our table lacked taste, energy, and intention, as if the kitchen was simply executing recipes without engagement or care. The moo ping should have been a highlight sweet, smoky, caramelized, and alive with char. Instead, it arrived hollow and lifeless, missing the marinade and fire that define the dish. There was no depth, no fragrance, no sense that the cook believed in what was being served. The accompanying rice was merely filler, and an additional order of Thai fried rice continued the same pattern: edible, but flat, dull, and entirely uninspired. My wife's gluten-free Pad Thai with tofu, a dish built on balance and brightness, was especially disappointing. It lacked acidity, sweetness, umami, and spice every note that gives Pad Thai its character. The noodles felt seasoned out of obligation rather than intention. It was food that offered no pleasure and no reason to return to it, ultimately left unfinished out of sheer indifference. This experience was not about spice tolerance, dietary restriction, or personal preference. Five people ordered widely, and the conclusion was unanimous: nothing stood out, nothing lingered, nothing satisfied. When every plate is this muted, it signals more than an off night it suggests a chef cooking without inspiration, without curiosity, and without soul. Thai cuisine is bold by nature. Having eaten throughout Thailand, we know that even the most modest street stall delivers food with clarity, confidence, and heart. What was served here bore little resemblance to that tradition. Last night (contrary to other nights and lunches in the past) , Bangkok Avenue did not simply miss the mark it stripped Thai food of the very element that makes it special: taste. Dish was a bit under-seasoned, could have used more salt and depth of flavor. I ordered medium spice and then added more spice to make up for the lack of flavor. I'd come back to try some more traditional Thai dishes, but was a little disappointed with the ramen.
