Ray: Last night Josh laid out a couple of plans for our weekly foray into the restaurants of Seattle. I don't want to belabor the options, so suffice it to say that I chose option "A", which included dinner at Pam's Kitchen, a somewhat new addition to Wallingford, sporting Caribbean food and drink.
We walked in a little early (as is our way). We were told that it was six minutes before they opened, but were welcomed in just the same. We chose a table in the dining area to sit at. Our waitress was very sweet and kind. She was taking our drink order to start. There was quite a selection of their own juices that could be mixed with rum. Not being such a rum fan, I just decided to have a gin & tonic. When I placed the order, I think the music stopped and it got real quiet as our waitress said, "I'll check on that for you." Hmmm, well ok please do... In a few minutes we saw the bartender with some tanqueray, so I assumed she obtained approval. But when the drinks arrived, the ice was almost melted and the fizz was gone. I requested a lime wedge with the drink and the waitress said, "I'll check on that for you." Hmmm... She wasn't as successful on the lime. There were none, but they had lemon....I passed.
Now, the interior of Pam's is nice. It's a great-room concept, all open. The walls seemed a little bare. I think they could use some fresh art in the place. I just happen to know a HOT artist in Wallingford that would love to hang some work there....Josh?
After perusing the menu, I decided to go for the duck. I don't know if I ever had duck before, but decided, "What the duck" ya know? It's actually a moot point anyway because they were out of duck. I elected to go with the Spicy Jerk Chicken. The food took just a little longer than I expected, but this is often the case when we open the joint. When the food did come, it was thoughtfully presented and looked delicious. I dug right in and was so pleasantly pleased. That food was freakin' awesome. Packed with flavor, every bite was an enjoyment. Probably the best Jerk Chicken I have ever had. These guys know their stuff folks...
In spite of feeling like I was not on the same page as the restaurant (the drink and the duck fiascos). I was so pleased with the food that I am going four stars for Pam's Kitchen. I would most certainly go back for more, and would feel real good about bringing guests with me that I want to impress.
Go try Pam's Kitchen! I think you will love it too!
Josh: We arrived at Pam's Kitchen about 8 minutes before they actually opened. The huge dining room was empty except for a few staff preparing for the dinner shift. The dining room fairly cavernous, it would probably still feel empty with half the tables filled.
We were brought menus right away and I ordered a peanut and rum drink that I do not remember the name of. As I waited for them to make and bring the drink, I had a chance to peruse the menu. There were a few dishes that looked pretty good, but I ended up going with the spicy jerk chicken. They brought the drink which turned out to be really delicious and creamy, like a little peanut butter milkshake.
The food arrived to the table looking quite nice. The chicken was served on the bone with a side of rice and salad. Everything was bold and delicious, the chicken was about as tender and moist as you could want chicken to be. Everything was just spicy enough to get the sinuses cleared without being too painful.
I liked Pam's Kitchen, I think they're a nice addition to an already ethnically diverse culinary scene in Wallingford. I'm going with 4 stars. read more
