Pretty good drip coffee, great croissant, great muffin, great scone, great sandwich. Baked goods in general looked awesome. Blueberry in the blueberry muffin was giant and juicy. Croissant sandwich was really good. Giant croissant. Scone was nice and crisp on the outside. Will visit again when I'm in the neighborhood.

This was my first time to visit this coffee shop as I was working in this neighbourhood. I saw some good or bad comments about this coffee shop. I tried the other branches at other two locations. They were pretty good, so I decided to try this one on west broadway. I came here around 1pm. There was some customers. No lineup. It was great! A barista at the cashier greeted me with a pleasant smile and asked for my order. I ordered a cheddar cheese scone and a cup of 12oz latte. They cost me $8.05. The price was average and reasonable. The scone was soft but it would be nice if a barista could heat it up a little bit, so it would be warm and fresh again. The latte was smooth and had a good balance of milk and coffee. I liked it. The ambience was comfortable but I did not have a chance to sit, eat and relax here. Overall, I had a great experience here.

Flat white ... nutty notes with bright acidity

3.5 stars ... definitely a cut above your typical corporate brands with it's great offering of different beans roasted right in Vancouver. For me, I discovered this spot in Toronto Beanstock and happily made this my first stop in Vancouver. I have a soft spot for Pallet as this woke me up to African beans with their Ethiopia Kayon Mountain single origin. If this is available on the daily menu, grab a pour over and drink it black. This is one of the best beans I've had in a long time. It is the rare moment where the notes describe ring so true in tastes... the prominent blueberry notes just rises in the midst of the sip and ending truer near the end. As for this particular location, I liked it as it had large windows to let in the light and several spots to allow different group sizes to sit, sip, and enjoy. The space is quite airy with it's vaulted ceilings and use of blonde woods ... minimalist in a Nordic type of way. Definitely more spacious than downtown Vancouver coffee spots so the laptop horde can sit for hours undisturbed. On a random Saturday morning, this wasn't too busy and most of the tables were still available. Unlike other reviews, I didnt experience any of the bad customer service. I didnt get a great engaged barista but I had no issue requesting a flat white or more bags of Kayon Mountain to buy. If anything, I would say they're on par with most independent coffee spots... decent service. Flat White made with Benchmark beans - This was their staple bean used for most espresso based drinks. Definitely more acidic and bright compared to beans I'm used to, this was interesting as you can taste a white grape tartness to this. I can see a casual drink calling this as being sour but I can admire how they made this fruit forward. I found this not be as balanced as other flat whites I've had. It was missing the creamy sweetness that followed through to the end. Not quite a curdled flavour but pushing the sourness envelope. 3.5/5 Flat white made with Fazenda Recreio beans - I like this one better than the Benchmark beans. The nuttiness note comes through stronger and it's not as bright as the benchmark. I think this works better in flat whites where you have less milk and foams compared latte or cappuccino. Still pushing the envelope of acidity, but much more approachable than the Benchmark. 3.5/5 I still like Pallet for the Kayon Mountain beans as it is delicious in a flat white but their other beans here doesn't have the same flavour profile. I'd return but only to get more Kayon Mountains and maybe once in a while try one of their other single origins.

    Fancy drinks!

Great coffee drinks, delicious custom breakfast sandwiches (croissant with egg, pesto mayo, arugula and gruyere) yes please! My 4yr old daughter loves their white chocolate blueberry muffin and kid's hot chocolate! Check out the bear face!!

    Ambience

So this review could have been a four if it weren't for some funky rude customer service from the cashier, but I digress, let's talk about the rest! So I've driven past this coffee shop numerous times and have never had a chance to go in. I was meeting up with a friend and she suggested we go. I was totally down. Cute coffee shops? Hell yes. So this place is bright, modern and beautiful. More appealing than a Starbucks, except for some of the ultra new ones. Actually maybe they are at par. I love all the fresh flowers, lights and seating. It's really lovely in here. So ambiance aside, let's move onto food and beverages. I ordered an Americano and it was good. Very standard but very good. I also ordered a sandwich which you can build yourself through numerous options but they also have some prepared options. I was semi confused about it, but all I got was a rude blunt response from a very melancholy cashier. Yikes! My sandwich was pretty good. My bill was around $13 for both the sandwich and medium coffee. Will I come back? Maybe, but I'm not dying too lol.

Coffee is okay. Slightly overpriced and the people who work there are not really friendly. Tip: Don't try the Columbian Pour over. Tastes really bad.

excent experience here... modern, fresh interior with a natural touch. awesome cortado, with cute coffee art which brightened my day. their almond croissant is the best ive ever tasted-- nice, crisp outside and oozy custard filling. the croissant was topped with what reminded me of hongkong-style bolo buns. (a cookie dough?) do try the croissants. great service and good food!

Custom gluten-free breakfast sandwich and cream Earl Grey!

Oh wow! Such a great sandwich!! Custom made gluten free sandwich and such a delicious cream Earl Grey tea! Wish I knew about this delight before now!

I ordered latte and avocado toast, both good. Bright and cozy place overall. But service is really so so. All staff look like not happy working there lol.

    Drip coffee and macchiato.
    Kirby W.

The decor at this location is pretty good, very bright and comfortable. The price of their beans are comparable to other coffee Roasters in the city. I tried their macchiato and drip coffee the other day and both were quite sour, moreso than any other place I've tried in the city.

    AMAZING.

Holiday Chocolate Kugelhopf~ dark chocolate sweet bread studded with chocolate chips, citrus peels, and almond praline, rolled in sugar. I really liked kugelhoph's dough and almond praline! I am writing this review because my email to them went unanswered…read more I am shocked and disappointed at the way I was treated after spending $40. I am a HUGE 49th fan and love their dougnuts and coffee. Whenever I have friends in town, or someone needs a suggestion on where to visit, I always say "49th has really good coffee and doughnuts". Unfortunately, my mind has changed, and I don't see myself ever recommending this location. As an avid coffee drinker, I am pretty picky on where I choose to have coffee and love the cafe culture in Vancouver. My mom loves doughnuts and we had come all the way from Langley for a day in Kits, so I recommended we go to 49th! I spent about $40 on 4 doughnuts, 2 maple sea salt lattes and a drip coffee. The maple sea salt lattes looked beautiful and my doughnut was delicious as usual (big fan of the french crueller). Unfortunately, our maple sea salt lattes were very very strong and had no maple or sea salt flavoring in my opinion. I decided to ask the girl at the register if we could please get a different drink because it was super strong and didn't taste good. I was met with SO much attitude, i was actually shocked. I went into it very friendly and politely asked for an alternate drink as i did spend $12 on these two drinks (and life gets expensive!!). She then goes "well, you probably don't like the taste of coffee then".... I actually didn't know how to respond. But i did say "I'm a huge 49th fan and love coffee!". Then I had asked how many shots are in the small and she said "2". I then had asked if we could get a new/different drink and she goes "I'll give it to you this one time, but next time you'll have to pay." This is NOT the way to treat a paying customer. It felt so rude and accusatory. I very rarely come to Kits, so she wouldn't have recognized me and am an honest girl who works hard for my money. When the customer comes up politely, you offer to make it right. I hope the next person that comes up not satisfied with their drink is treated a lot better than how I was.

And the girl who took my order, as well as the girl who rang me up at the cash, could NOT have been more aloof. I smiled and tried to make a little small talk, especially with the girl at the cash when I took out my debit card and asked how to pay (she just pointed at the tap symbol on the machine but my card is not tap-enabled. I always joke with people about this). This girl would not even look at me. Zero eye contact. No "thank you", nada. I just got really cold vibes from the two of them there at the counter. (At least when I picked up my tea at the beverage counter, the guy there made eye contact and semi smiled). (Side note: the staff at the Yaletown site have always been super pleasant and friendly, and this really makes a difference. To me, anyhow). Contrary to another reviewer's posting, the restaurant and the washroom was very clean when I visited here. No issues there. Honestly, I'm not sure I'll return to this site.
