We have four cats and are planning an international move. We were distraught to find out our regular vet was not USDA certified and so I decided to come back to Palisades Vet. I had been with them from 2015-2018 until my prior cats had passed away. They were so wonderful with my first two cats that when I saw Palisades routinely does international travel certification, I wondered why I had ever left them. The front desk was friendly and made our lives so much easier by scheduling all four cats on the same day. Even though it has been almost a decade since I've been there, I was treated like an old friend coming back. The vet tech and the doctor gently handled each one of our babies with great care...even our spicy girl Isabela! You can tell they really love animals. At no point were we made to feel bad or shamed for having a spicy cat, which is a really nice change from past vets who would show their disdain for our little girl. The doctor truly understands that animals are reacting out of fear and not malice, which was refreshing. If we weren't moving away permanently, we would definitely make this our go-to place again. I went to Palisades vet for many years, and would still be a client had they not mishandled a critical, life-threatening situation. My dog ate dark chocolate, I immediately called and was told to call the ASPCA poison control hotline. I did, but was on hold for quite a while, so I called the pet poison helpline which another vet had previously recommended. They were able to calculate the theobromine level and give instructions on how to induce vomiting, which I did. I called Palisades Vet back with this information, they asked if I "wanted " to bring him in. I said I needed clear guidance, that clearly I did not want to bring him in and I needed to know whether he needed further care. They said to bring him in. The vet who saw him erroneously assumed that the pet poison helpline did not have veterinary toxicologists on staff, so she decided to call the ASPCA poison hotline and billed me for the cost, about $100. That was an error on their part. But even worse, after having my dog for hours and billing me close to $400, Palisades Vet ultimately told me my dog needed to go to an emergency overnight hospital based entirely on the exact information I provided when I first called. Let that sink in for a minute. It was a critical loss of several hours, in addition to a good bit of money. I emailed Dr. Elliot and she asked to schedule a call to get into greater detail. It was honestly a surprise that she said she thought everything had been handled properly and refused to even issue a refund for the unnecessary toxicology call, despite the fact that their vet was wrong and that it was entirely unnecessary. As for them telling me that my dog needed to be at an overnight Animal Hospital after billing me $400 and wasting about four hours of my time? I took my dog to Friendship, which I should have done from the start. And I guess I have to thank Palisades vet, because I switched to Friendship, which has been far superior in every way! Silver linings. One other thing, we had an emergency appointment after my dog was bit by another dog. He needed three surgical staples and they said I needed to get the rabies vaccine information for the other dog and send it to them. I did that. I told them that the other dog, who we didn't know, came running from maybe 10 yards away and with no prior interaction pushed my dog down and bit him. My understanding is that vets are required to report dog bites to the DC Department of Health. Palisades Vet did not do that, so I reported the bite myself. read more

‼TO my Followers/Readers & To "Palisades's Vet Clinic WHOLE Staff (esp) To OUR Vet Doctor that oversees "BubbleGum"‼ As I am sure those of you all that read my LAST review for this Vet Clinic, PLEASE "disregard"what I said in my last review I genuinely take back my Harsh/Terrible comment/words I said that day for my last review. Yes, that Day and even Month was the worst for me & my family. I was extremely stressed out over a lot of stuff that JUST wasn't going well for us and this day after taking our dog last was the tipping point for me especially. And hearing that her allergies could be caused by "anything & everything" and that there wasn't an actual medicine (for her breed) that could solve her allergies conditions or at least help control her allergies in a more substantial way, wasn't exactly what we/I was looking to hear that day. I admit TRUTHFULLY, I extremely overreacted & took my frustration/anger out on this clinic. Honestly at the time I wasn't even honestly realizing everything I truly said when I was writing my last review. ((Seeing as though I wasn't myself and just so hot headed)). Life in Washington DC is EXTREMELY Hard, especially Financially. Add in doing something good for our family to help us w/our emotional health, getting a dog and finding out she has her OWN serious mental health issues & then ALSO a terrible allergy to almost everything and anything on top of that mix and that there is NO one single medication that can help her with her constant allergy conditions! It's truly frustrating and YES, one starts to develop doubts about almost everything & whether even the vets/doctors or w/e & who ever you seek help from is truly working for you and ur pet. This clinic has been taking care of my families pets for years. My mother took many of her cats & even my first dog when I was adopted to this clinic and they have ALWAYS been there for us, treated my/my families pets w/ great understanding, compassion & Love. They DO their best to the max and take pride in helping animals and their families as much as they can. There staff is always friendly, vets super compassionate and take the time to really listen to what your concerns are when it comes to a family pet. I admit, I sometimes forget that even though medicine has evolved in so many ways now in this day and age, (weather it be for us as humans or animals) NOT everything is still going to have that magical pill/formula that will fix an allergy or illness in one day. And that taking a moment to "COOL OFF" was what I should have done to begin with before I wrote my last review. ‼I am NOT writing this because I have to or because I was confronted by someone about my last review! NO, I'm genuinely writing this because I am deeply sorry and even I can admit when I was extremely in the wrong, with my actions and mind set! In FACT, I do want to Thank the person that did confront me about my last post. It was extremely harsh & very mean and sitting down and having a talk about why and what lead to it actually felt good!! I was able to really express to that person a bit of what was frustrating us/me and the financial part that was honestly was weighing supper heavily on ours/my shoulders for the longest time! Which is true. We are NOT always able to afford the most basic stuff in washing DC. ESP if ur a young family just trying to start making a life for yourself & your family. Everything is extremely expensive if you don't make enough money and you live off trying to survive every week. Wondering how you will be able to even afford food for a week! Then the last thing you want to stress over is how to even help ur family pet and how one is going to afford their vet bill/all her medication for that time of visit, especially if her insurance WON'T even cover anything that has to do with her Allergies!!! Leave you feeling heart broken and truly depressed. ‼ With this said, "2 All the Vets/Staff @ Palisades Vet Clinic & Our Vet" I Am Truly & Deeply sorry about what I said and my horrible words that we're spoken that day in my last review! Please accept our/my deepest apology!! U do so much because you all truly do care and love what you do. And I need to remind myself that more often especially when times are truly hard & stressful. Grooming Experience Only. No experience with the vet side of the clinic. TERRIBLE GROOMERS TERRIBLE LEADERSHIP OVERPRICED We recently took our pup (7 months) in for a grooming appointment and requested a summer cut. Got to the clinic and showed the groomer a picture for comparison and left feeling confident. 30 mins after we picked her up from the appointment, we noticed little red razor burns all over her body. Burns around her anal area, both arm pits, paws, stomach and right eye. We were a bit alarmed and thought she probably gave the groomers a hard time so we gave them a call to check how she did. Groomer said "she was very calm, no issues at all". We let him know of all the razor burns we saw all over, the redness etc and sent in pictures. They were outright dismissive and took 0 accountability. Upon speaking with the manager, she tried to tell me that this was "normal" and that the pup probably gave herself all the burns. She made it a point to say "I've been in the business long enough to know whats a burn, this isn't it" ... after simple reasoning we ended the call with the manager saying "no this is not normal and our groomer did a really good job". It was the worst experience! Oh and guess what, they charged us $170 FOR A GROOM!! and gave us 20% off. Wow. Thanks - that helped our pup! Will not be returning and actively recommending that our friends do not go here. read more

Today I spoke with the office manager Victoria on the phone. I requested that the front office staff speak to my pet's primary veterinary about a request and that I help provide the input necessary, as the owner, to help the veterinarian consider the request. Victoria told me that she could speak to the veterinarian but continued to actually deny my request until about 45 minutes into the phone call when she finally said that a note would be put in for the veterinarian's consideration. When I asked to help provide information to relay to the veterinarian, she denied my request and said that she would input the information she thought was necessary. I also tried to inquire if it was possible to schedule a phone appointment and she denied the request because she thought that an in-person evaluation was required despite being an office manager and non-veterinarian and my pet being examined multiple times over the past year and being a patient since 2018. Victoria claimed to be doing everything to help my pet's health, however she is not in a position to do that since she has no veterinary training and this is a relatively benign issue that my pet has been treated for by this office previously. I am incredibly disappointed by the way my request was handled so much so that I am considering finding a new veterinarian office after nearly seven years. There is little point in having an established relationship with a veterinarian if this is the way that requests for treatment will be handled. read more

Palisades Veterinary Clinic is stellar. They offer through, compassionate care. The staff -- front desk, technicians, the medical team -- are excellent. I have trusted Palisades with the care of two of my Golden Retrievers. And I really LOVE my Golden Retrievers. I value the relationship we have built with Dr. Mazin and look forward to working with him for a long time to come. read more

The grooming service is abysmal. Do not use their groomer. They demanded to be dropped off at 8 AM, and they didn't groom our dog all day - she was left in a cage from 8 AM-5 PM. We gave up and picked her up at the end of the day without her even being groomed and they had no good explanation. The VET knows the dog has anxiety and this is borderline abusive that they treated a pet in their care this way. They vet should not offer this service. read more

I have been going to Palisades vet clinic for 2 years and before that Dupont Vet clinic (same ownership, my Vet (Dr Dan) transferred to Palisades. This is the place you want to go for a vet who really cares about you and your pet. They are privately owned, not corporate or private equity owned. What this means to you, is you get great personalized care, and what you don't get is the "would you like fries with that?" approach of the corporate vets who try to sell you all kinds of treatments and services "for the health and well being of your dog" (and their average revenue per patient! (sarcasm)). Take your pet to Palisades...or Dupont under same ownership. These are good, fair minded Veterinarians who are not under some corporate pressure to sell you on all kinds of extra services. read more

This review for Palisades Veterinary Clinic is a LONG TIME OVERDUE. Tillie has been a patient at Palisades Vet for some time now (10 years?). We came to them after a misdiagnosis from another local veterinary clinic when Tillie was about 4 years old and have been with them ever since! While we didn't love their grooming service, we cannot say enough about how caring, cautious, helpful, empathetic, organized, friendly, and strategic their veterinary staff, technicians and vets are. Palisades Vet does a great job with the regularly scheduled well-visits, but they also really shine when the going gets uh...ruff (haha)! Though our girl is aging gracefully, it has not been without complications. Whether it was a strange and rough battle with hot-spots a few years ago, basic dental cleaning, a tricky diagnosis of a blown out knee (which lead to TPLO surgery and significant rehab), aspirate biopsies of fatty tissue masses (benign, thank heavens) or a splenectomy in the same year, the Palisades team was right by our side through it all. Even through the worst of COVID and even when our favorite AMAZING vet (shout out to Dr. Jan Elliott) isn't on duty, the Palisades Vet Clinic team always makes sure the doc on duty is aware and in touch. Even when (and this is really, really important) the issue that ails your pet requires a specialist, Palisades Vet is always 100% on the ball with sending records to wherever they need to be sent in a timely manner AND communicating with the surgeon, physical therapist, radiologist, neurologist, orthopedic, etc so that the care and recovery can be streamlined. Especially with Dr. Elliott, she never puts her pride or ego over the care of her patients. NEVER. If it isn't something that she can fix or diagnose, she and the Palisades team will coordinate with whomever needed to make sure your fur baby gets the absolute best, most accurate diagnosis and treatment. Thanks to the outstanding, consistent care at Palisades Vet, we are reminded every single day how lucky we are to have a healthy, smiling, playful Tillie in our lives. read more

I take both my dogs to the vet and have been satisfied with the care received there. This review is for the grooming my Sheepadoodle received there today. The groomer worked hard to brush him out and he looked great yesterday. Extremely expensive, but good. Today was the cut. The cut is so incredibly bad around the face. I gave specific instructions and even included pictures. I said please do not poodle my doodle. What the groomer did to my dogs face is so sad. I'm going to have to wait weeks if not months for it to grow out. Given the cost and the horrendous look of my dog, I will not be returning for grooming. I feel bad leaving this review, but I don't understand how a groomer would think that was a good cut for an OES. I even included pictures with my instructions! I've never seen my dog look worse. I'm a human physician and while it's very different from veterinary medicine, I'm very observant as to what kind of examination is done. I've also had seven golden retrievers so when I took my current one in for his senior wellness exam, I did not see anything more than listening to his heartbeat. I'm wanted to see the itemized bill. A physical exam. I asked what does that include . The manager informed me that they do things while talking to you. Am I stupid. All my previous goldens died from hemangiosarcoma of the spleen. I want to know that they examined his abdomen. I wanted to see them look in his ears I want to see them press his gums. You better be an advocate For your four-legged child because like many human positions, they skip over alot. Choose your vet carefully like you would choose a pediatrician. read more

Today we needed an urgent visit and we were so appreciative that Dr. DeLuca was able to assess Rosie & help piece together a bit of a medical mystery. I have nothing but great things to say about Palisades! I am a first-time dog owner, so I went into my first appointment apprehensive and a little lost. The staff and vets here made me feel instantly comfortable and answered all of my questions. First and foremost, it is clear that everyone here truly loves the animals they work with. Everyone treated my dog exceedingly well and made him comfortable through uncomfortable situations (vaccinations, aspirations, eye stains, etc.). Dr. Fischer was great and even took the time to show me how to properly administer my dog's eye drops (he's a squeamish little guy when it comes to his eyes). I have visited Palisades twice now, and I have been impressed with their availability and willingness to work with my schedule on short notice. For my first appointment, they were able to accommodate me on a Sunday morning (very much appreciated for someone who works full time)! I had scheduled a follow-up appointment and they were able to move it up at the last minute when an immediate health issue arose. My favorite thing about Palisades is that they make all of my dog's medical records available via an iPhone app. It is very convenient to have instant electronic access to my dog's medications, vaccination records, etc. Overall, I feel completely comfortable putting my dog's health in the hands of the folks at Palisades. I won't hesitate to take my dog there for any of his future needs. read more

I have gone to this practice for 2 years for routine care with no issues. I would not recommend this practice for serious emergent care for your pet. The doctors do not answer phone messages even when your pet has been hospitalized, despite multiple requests. When the going gets rough, Palisades Vet Clinic does not come through. read more

Terrible experience with Palisades Veterinary Clinic. Appears that Dr. Elliott totally missed what was going on with my cat, altho can't understand how she could have listened to her lungs and not realized that they were filling with fluid and when I asked her tech whether the way the cat was breathing was normal, he said yes. As a result, my poor beloved cat suffered for 4 more days until I brought her back and asked another tech the same question. She was alarmed and recommended an X-ray which showed probably about 80% of her lungs were filled with fluid, and there was nothing that could be done for her. I knew she was sick and didn't have much time but hoped above all that she wouldn't suffer. Instead she struggled to breathe for at least 4 days while I looked on and tried to figure out what to do. I'll never forgive them for that. read more

Not recommended. They don't seem to have a very good idea of how to deal with dogs. They were rather rough with ours on two occasions -- not hostile, just indifferent to, or unaware of, the right approach. Our dog is shy but not unusual; just needed a chance to sniff and a piece of kibble to get comfortable. Not good with this basic blocking & tackling when dealing with canine patients. I cannot adequately express the appreciation and gratitude we have for Drs Elliott, Liu, and DeLuca as well as all the amazing techs and staff at Palisades. They have been taking care of our dogs for more than five years. We have leaned on them for cancer, for arthritis, dysplasia, and Addison's. Dr Fischer came to our home to help us say goodbye to our beloved Tilly so she would be surrounded by those who loved her in her own bed. If you want a vet who cares about your pets and is a partner with you, I cannot imagine a better choice than Palisades. read more

Hate to write this review, but my most recent experience here deserves it. After bringing my dog here for more than 6 years and a new puppy for 5 months below is the email I sent to the doctors. On top of it all, I am only now hearing back from the docs 6 weeks after my email. There response: basically, sorry, that's our policy. --------------------------------- Dear Drs. I wanted to let you know about my experience in the Clinic this morning. Puppy injured herself at home this past Saturday jumping around and has been limping since. I called your office at 7:31am Monday morning to get her seen. I believe a woman named Lauren fielded my call and also met me at desk when I arrived. I walked in at 8:13am for an 8:00am emergency appointment with Dr. DeLuca. Lauren informed me that I was too late and would have to reschedule. While I recognize that it is important that appointment times be held in order for all offices to run on time, I was completely disappointed in the way I was treated this morning. Lauren repeated that this is "policy" and there was nothing she could do. I was clearly upset and frustrated with her inability/unwillingness to figure out a better solution. I sat down in the lobby and called a veterinary friend who told me her clinic in Potomac would be happy to see Puppy immediately. I asked Lauren for both Puppy and Older Dog's records and made sure there were no outstanding appointments or items owed on the Puppy Plan I'd bought. I left. Lauren was non plussed. Older Dog has been a patient at Palisades for more than 6 years. Puppy for the entirety of her 5 months! I have had dozens of wonderful interactions with front desk staff, vet techs and doctors at your practice, but today was awful enough that I felt the need to leave the practice. --Puppy is injured. She was not there to get a routine vaccination. (Something that could more easily be shifted to a diff appointment time.) Lauren did not offer to have someone even triage her and determine if she should be seen right then and there despite the timing of our arrival. --If there is such a strict policy about appointment times it must be a two-way street: I have certainly been on time for my other appointments but have had to wait for vet techs or doctors to be seen up to 25 mins late. I haven't freaked out because I understand that's how it goes. -- from a purely business perspective our family has spent thousands of dollars at Palisades and this is bad customer service I am sad that my dogs will no longer be seen at Palisades. Doctor patient relationships are important even for pets and beginning new ones elsewhere is definitely not what I wanted. read more

I cannot trust them and wouldn't go back there with any issue more involved than a routine vaccination. Also lots of staff turnover. Love, love, love this place. Got the recommendation to take my new pup here off the Cleveland Park list-serv. A lot of people I know take their dogs to Petsmart's vet where I could probably pay a quarter of what I have to PVC over the last 6 months, but I decided I would rather have the individualized service and a vet office to develop a relationship with. That is definitely the case here. It has that small-town, family-owned business sort of vibe that I absolutely love and you just want to support them. That's why I even buy our Frontline and Heartgard here, even though I think I could probably get it much cheaper elsewhere. It's worth it. Also, I think it's fantastic that they offer peanut butter on a tongue compressor for the dogs to lick when they get their shots. This helps them develop, from a young age, a positive association with being manipulated by a "stranger" and with vet visits in general. I mentioned that our vet did this in puppy school when we were talking about it, and my trainer wrote down the name of the vet because she thought that was just such a brilliant idea. My dog would let them cut off his leg for a little peanut butter, so this definitely works for us. Love this place and will definitely keep coming back! read more

It's hard for me NOT to like this place! I live in Friendship Heights so this is a convenient location for me. Not too long of a car ride for the kitties. I brought my two furballs in for a bath but didn't expect to end up spending $325! The grooming itself was a reasonable price! I didn't realize I'd be charged for two office visits as well. That alone was $170! Next time I'll have to be more clear about costs. However, that is my only complaint. Everything else, I have nothing but praise. Everyone I've spoken to on the phone has been incredibly nice, listened to all my questions and was very helpful. In person, I received the same quality of service. Sweet, sociable ladies working the front desk. Dr. Fisher was great with my cats, too. I often feel like a paranoid mom when I go to vet visits but Dr. Fisher listened to all my concerns. I received really cute grooming "report cards" when I picked them up. It's a nice personal touch that I appreciate from a business. Unfortunately, my one cat wasn't too pleased with her spa day and decided to poop herself on the short drive home. Typical ungrateful cat behavior! =P read more

After my first visit, I was very pleased with the service here. They were friendly and patient (it was my first vet visit) and they didn't overcharge me or recommend any unnecessary procedures or tests. They have also emailed me my pet's medical records promptly upon request since then. They have a convenient drop-off service in which you can leave your pet there for the day for an extra fee and pick them up a when they are finished, which is perfect if you work. My only complaint is that the vet tech/assistant didn't really seem to know how to handle new dogs. She was nice enough, but didn't understand why my dog didn't like her putting a new leash over his head, or why I asked if she wanted to give my dog a treat so he would warm up to her ---both seem pretty obvious to me. read more
