Yo...its taken some time to write this, but THEY DID EVERTHING THEY COULD. I WAS NOT FINANCIALLY PREPAIRED. my cat was in distress. I had maybe $1500. I loved my baby. They could see that. After all the testing, blood and transfusions the cost ended up being over 9grand. (DO NOT THINK EMERGENCY VETS HAVE TO HELP YOU NO MATTER WHAT. YOU NEED MONEY. BUT THEY WILL WORK WITH YOUR BUDGET). Me and my partner scraped together what we could. But VEG Georgetown ALSO came together and helped us with some of the cost. We hit the goal but Unfortunately we had to say goodbye. The team, THEN WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND by helping us bring our baby home. The care they provided was unreplaceble. I owe them so much. Please believe, your fur-babies are in good hands with this team

Dr. McKinley and all of the staff were wonderful when my kitty Freddie Prince recently had to have emergency surgery. What is different about VEG when compared to the other animal hospital (in Tenleytown) is that you can stay with your pet the entire time he is under care. I used to hate surrendering my pet at the other animal hospital and then being stuck in the waiting room for hours and hours and having no information about how things were going. Dr. McKinley successfully extracted a button (surprise!) that had lodged between my cat's stomach and small intestine. They were super nice during his stay at the hospital and followed-up regularly with me in the weeks he was recovering. Highlighly recommend this place!!

We brought our beloved 17-year-old cat, Freddy, to VEG after he began experiencing seizures. Freddy had been bravely fighting advanced kidney disease, and we knew in our hearts it was time to help him cross the rainbow bridge. We were completely devastated and hysterically crying as we rushed him there. We called from the car to let them know we were on our way, and from the moment we walked through the doors, it was all hands on deck. The team's immediate response was incredible. They met us with urgency, kindness, and compassion at a time when we could barely think straight. I can't speak to the medical treatment VEG provides beyond this experience, but I can wholeheartedly speak to the compassion and professionalism they showed us. Every member of the staff treated Freddy with dignity and treated us with so much empathy during one of the hardest moments of our lives. A week later, we received a handwritten sympathy card signed by the staff. It brought me to tears. That small gesture meant more than I can put into words. After a less-than-stellar experience at another emergency veterinary hospital (Friendship), we were especially grateful for the care and compassion we received at VEG. Nothing can bring Freddy back, but the kindness shown to us that day has brought light to some very dark memories. For that, we will always be thankful.

From the moment we stepped through the door, every single person around us leapt into action to save our girl. I have never experienced an emergency to this severity with a pet and was an absolute mess myself when we brought her in. The team worked to quickly stabilize our cat and were so sensitive and kind with my husband and I as we were grappling with extreme anxiety and anticipatory grief. Dr. Watson was the veterinarian we dealt with in those first critical hours, and she somehow struck the perfect balance between professional and warm. She sat with us while we talked through the possibilities of what was happening, the plan for diagnostics, and the decisions we should be prepared to make. It felt like being taken care of by the most knowledgeable friend you've ever met. Once we determined our cat was going to make it and be hospitalized over night, we literally felt so comfortable leaving our girl in the care of the wonderful staff. They told us multiple times that we could call at any time for an update, and we took them up on this offer when I woke up in a panic around 4am. Dr. Beckford immediately got on the phone with me, providing me with a lengthy update and allowing me to ask as many questions as I needed to feel comfortable knowing our cat was doing well. The next day when we returned to pick up our cat, Dr. Shah took so much time talking through the details of her condition and what we would do to treat her at home in the future. Instead of just doing the bare minimum, it felt like he was caring for us and for our cat like she was his own. Even on our way out the door, every vet, tech, and staff member kept reminding us that we could call or message them at any point if we had further questions or concerns. They truly mean this - even after your pet has gone home, they will gladly help reassure you or answer questions if your pet's condition changes. Since this is an open concept ER, we watched this group of vets and techs interact with a variety of pet parents for 6+ hours and at every step, you could tell that they were performing above and beyond the call of duty to do the best thing for every one of the animals that came through their doors. We were on the receiving end of that empathy, thoughtfulness, and expertise at every single turn and I would highly encourage every dog or cat owner to keep this clinic in mind for any future emergency that you might have in the future.

While I hope to not have to go back anymore, it's very comforting to know they are there.

Thanks to their dedicated, compassionate care, we got one more beautiful year with him before he passed. No response to that email (not even an "I'm sorry"), but just received an email with Freddy's summary report, dated the 24th but sent the 28th. Too little too late friendship, do better. I drove over an hour to utilize this animal hospital, staff met us at the door as promised, then quickly proceeded to treat him. They showed so much care & compassion! A few days ago, I noticed my pup refusing to walk even during nice weather days. His genitalia was dark red & inflamed. I took the voyage back to the hospital and received the same level of care that I remembered. They have an onsite pharmacy, so we went home with 3 Rx & an e-collar. He's healing slowly but surely. My dog goes to different practice because he was already on a plan when I adopted him and it made more sense to keep him on that plan, but my cats (& previous dogs) were patients here & we used to board our dogs here too. When they were good, I would constantly tell people to go here but after we had a hellish experience we shared our trauma & literally told people to stay far away from here! And we stayed far away from here! My good times here have been amazing & one of the vets saved my beautiful baby during the same hellish experience with the jerk of a vet who caused us to let go of our baby. But sadly the amazing vet moved and so I swore this place off! I needed a new vet and I really went down the rabbit hole of research and was actually brought right back here and I am so grateful that we found Dr. Candace Flynn! She is simply a dream and the most amazing, compassionate and caring vet I think I have ever met and my kitty is so comfortable with her it's pure love! Dr. Flynn, who deserves FIVE STARS+++, is also wonderful with her advice and guidance. She's very communicative and informative and just well-rounded with a holistic approach, but the amount of time and love she spends with your pet (and you) is priceless!!! They are a 24-hour emergency care, veterinary hospital, fully equipped, and fully staffed round the clock. They also have a separate, waiting room for dogs and cats to help ease the anxiety. They also have two sister hospitals in both Clifton and Arlington, Virginia. Yes, they are a bit pricier but you're inside the beltway & 15 minutes from DC so what do you expect?! Thankfully, there has been more good than bad and I know which vet to steer clear from & I still forewarn people about her! 7/2/27

I wish I would have caught it sooner for me to bypass some unneeded emotional damage. Once I finally did pick up on the signs I immediately looked for a nearby vet. But on a Sunday, there aren't many open. My choices were two emergency vets that were equal distances away. As you can see, I chose this one. On my way here, I was all in my emotions and almost bypassed the building. Luckily for me, I caught it at the last minute and whipped around. When I went in there was no hesitation about being seen. They are a digital establishment. Scan the QR code, fill in your information, and wait to be seen. I sat in the waiting room for what felt like an eternity, but we all feel that way in a time of need. Finally a vet tech came to see me and ask what was going on. I started to talk and only broke down instead. I was escorted in a room and they took my cat for a set of vitals. I was at that point where I thought she was attempting to cross that rainbow bridge. Instead, after the vitals and some talking to the vet, it was decided as to what was going on. I also want to thank them for being upfront with information. I was informed that they already know what it is and a course of treatment or I could spend a lot more money to do tests and come to the same conclusion. After a good cry I came to my senses and went with their suggested treatment. This was an emotionally exhausting day. Made a bit better by a good team at this place. My cat, upon returning home, was very lethargic because of the antibiotic and pain medication given. She was out of sorts for a bit, but back to normal within the timeframe quoted by this team.

The staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty were amazing from the moment we walked in. They were extremely thorough while showing such care and concern for Duke. They explained what was happening, were transparent about the cost, and gave an honest assessment of the prognosis for our baby. Dr. S explained our options and gave us time to process everything. She answered all our questions and reassured us that there was no right or wrong way to go. Ultimately, we made the heartbreaking decision to let Duke go and she supported it, agreeing it was the kindest choice given his age, prognosis, and his current state. When I asked her what she would do for her own fur baby given the circumstances, Dr. S was transparent and told us she would do the same. That gave us a small bit of comfort that we weren't rushing into it prematurely. Dr. S gave us referrals to a few vets who could come to our home to help us with Duke's final care. We chose Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice, who were equally wonderful during such a horrible time. We appreciate all of the staff at Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty, from the folks at the front desk to the nurses and doctors. There were small things that I appreciated... when they brought our baby to us, they put down a plush blanket so he could be comfortable and not laying directly on the floor. Also, right before we left, one of the nurses even came in to say goodbye to Duke and tell him he was a sweet boy. She loved on him and that small gesture will always stick with me. I thank everyone for showing such love and support during one of the most difficult times in my family's life. I would absolutely recommend Dogs and Cats Emergency & Specialty to anyone needing care for their fur baby.
