Chocolate kisses for pets going over Rainbow Bridge.
    Libby F.

I came today to say goodbye to my friend's 24ish year old dog. (The rescue place may have been off 14 years ago when she was adopted.) I wish this place was around a year and a half ago when I had to help my fur baby cross over to rainbow bridge. Everyone we interacted with was very compassionate and they do not rush you at all. You can take as long as you need in one of their patient private rooms. They have a jar of Hershey kisses in the room because they say no pet should leave without tasting chocolate. :) For any emergencies I have with my fur baby, or if I can't get an appointment with my vet, Apex will be my first choice. Note: unlike other vets and emergency places, they do not prepay the cremation charges for you. You will be billed by the crematory and pick up the ashes here in about a week.

This is technically…read morethe 2nd bad review I've given this office and this time, I'm not taking it down until I'm completely satisfied that this office can do better. Every time I've needed something from this office, they've failed me. I've been using this vet for over a year and I *thought* Gage was covered for all his preventions. After 3 visits and nearly $2000 later I realize that--no, he wasn't. He wasn't covered for hook- or heartworms for that entire year. All because they didn't include that medication in his medication portal--even though we talked about it and I brought up his past preventions. I didn't notice this was an issue because the meds I *did* buy came with the logo of the one I apparently didn't and even the vets and doctors didn't catch it. Now my dog is in a revolving door of gastrointestinal issues and NONE of the medications this vet has prescribed seem to work. Not only this, but every time I come into this office they try to upsell me on something I've never asked for, things I've never heard of, supplements I don't need, etc. Before ever getting the meds I asked for, this vet tried to get me to pay for 2 different supplements that I've never heard of. Big surprise, on a recent trip, I forgot to bring those supplements but did bring the arthritis meds and lo and behold, the meds work and the supplements weren't necessary. Just several hundred dollars down the drain. This office literally has ONE LAST CHANCE to not completely let me down. If I don't leave my next visit 100% happy and with a noticeably healthier dog, I'm changing vets, and might even consider a lawsuit. Seriously, how do you leave my dog UNPROTECTED FROM PARASITES FOR A FULL YEAR while charging me thousands!!?

Got there a few minutes early, they make you wait outside! You have to call to tell them you're there. It's 85 degrees! So they "let" me wait inside. When they vet finally came in (15 minutes late) the first thing she said to me was they like to do a full blood panel on dogs over 8 years old and she would discuss the estimate with me. DIDN'T EVEN LOOK AT MY DOG! I just saw a big money grab coming. Called my old vet and have an appointment in 4 days, no deposit required. I never do this but just wanted to warn people. I'm happy people have had great experiences, the pets are the most important.

Overall, we had a decent experience getting a doggy check up at Wheaton Animal Hospital. Dr…read more Johnson and the vet assistant were very professional and provided great advice for our recently adopted pup. Both were very easy to speak to. Also, I really appreciated the fact that they did not try to recommend (rather force) 80 million "unnecessary" things for our pup. For the most part, making an appointment was fairly simple and we only had to wait about 1.5 weeks for routine checkup. Similar to other places, you have to provide a deposit to confirm the appointment; I think the deposit was around 88 bucks. Unfortunately, I don't believe they have an online system for making appointments so you would have to call for scheduling. I think this was fine, but since you have to pay a deposit to confirm your appointment, I prefer not giving my CC number over the phone. But, hey, it is what it is. For the most part, check in was easy. However, I have to admit that I was slightly annoyed bc the receptionist indicated that the office had not received our dog's health records from his prior vet and animal rescue. About a week prior to our appointment, I emailed the documents and even called a few days after sending these documents to confirm receipt. That said, the receptionist mentioned that the office recently switched to a new system, so I'll brush that off as a technical glitch. Also, since this was our dog's first visit, I don't think we will need to worry about this in the future because he now has a record at this animal hospital. But if you are a 1st time visit, definitely call to confirm receipt of your animal's records and maybe even bring a hard copy with you to the first visit. My experience was vets in the area is limited. However, I thought the prices here were a bit cheaper than the previous vet we visited. Oh! As of July 2025, 1st timers will receive a $50 discount.

The staff downplayed the severity of the wound and kept trying to get us to dismiss it as an accident. According to the emergency vet they dropped our dog off at, it was a very deep bite, not evidence of a typical accident. Our dog needed staples and a drain inserted in his neck. Upon telling a staff member and their manager about the severity of the injury according to the vet, neither person expressed any sympathy for our dog and instead quickly gave us the rehearsed line about the liability waiver we signed. We understood Dogtopia wasn't liable, but their contract says owners are liable for any damages their dogs cause to staff or other dogs. I hope that they don't allow the dog that did this back to Dogtopia, but I have my doubts due to the answers we received. They ultimately ended up paying the nearly $1,000 emergency vet bill themselves but only after my wife and I persistently followed up. We did receive an apology from the manager but at that point their lack of sympathy and unwillingness to acknowledge the severity caused a lot of stress and hurt. I truly hope they are able to give their staff more training and show more love for the dogs who attend their daycare.

It was advertised to include three potty breaks a day, six hours of daycare, a complimentary bath, and 24/7 camera access. Ironically, the only thing we actually received was the camera. Instead of giving us peace of mind during our vacation, it became a live stream of our dog struggling. The first red flag came at drop-off. A young staff member immediately tried to force a thin slip lead over our dog's neck and started pulling before giving him any chance to get comfortable. He choked and panicked. Looking back, we should have trusted our instincts and walked out. Our corgi has been leash-trained since he was a puppy. He's been to groomers, veterinary hospitals, dog sitters, and other boarding facilities without anyone ever saying he couldn't be safely handled. Later, we were told the staff didn't want to leash or touch him because they were worried about getting bitten. Because of that, he wasn't taken outside for potty breaks, didn't go to daycare, and spent almost the entire two days alone in his "Luxury Suite." Our dog is fully potty trained and will hold it for as long as he can. But when no one takes him outside, eventually he has no choice. He ended up peeing and pooping in the room and was left sitting in it. Watching the camera was heartbreaking. Throughout our trip, we repeatedly checked the live feed and kept seeing him alone--standing or lying by the door for hours. Corgis are active, social dogs that need exercise and interaction. Knowing we were hundreds of miles away and couldn't help him completely ruined our vacation. When we picked him up, he had urine and feces on his legs and body. He was clearly stressed, had lost almost a pound in just two days, appeared dehydrated, and later developed stomach problems. What hurts the most is that nobody called us. If they truly believed they couldn't safely care for our dog, why didn't they tell us? We would have turned around immediately or found another place for him. Instead, they simply stopped providing the services we paid for and still charged us the full price. We were also promised a call from a supervisor on Monday. That call never came. Their website says, "We're more than just a boarding facility; we're a luxury retreat for your dog... give your pet the vacation they deserve." After what we witnessed, those words feel painfully ironic. The camera was supposed to give us peace of mind. Instead, we spent our vacation watching our dog alone in his room for hours through Canine Clubhouse's own camera system. We've preserved the complete camera footage from his stay and stand behind every statement in this review. If Canine Clubhouse believes our account is inaccurate, we welcome them to share the relevant footage or any other evidence publicly. We genuinely hope no other family has to experience what we--and more importantly, our dog--went through.
