This is a wonderful bakery with an assortment of items. We've gotten cakes from here twice and each time it was delicious! I would recommend a two layer cake over a 3 layer cake just based on my own taste. However, Palermo just knows what they're doing and there's a reason why they are always busy whenever I visit. Even when they are busy, every baker makes it a point to be personable and friendly. Be confident in following your gut because you can't really go wrong. read more

Ordered cake and they fulfill orders within 24 hours as long as they have the sponge available! We ordered a 10 inch yellow cake with strawberry and cannoli filling and boy was it FILLED! So tasty. We almost thought it was bigger than 10 inches because it looks way bigger than strawberry cannoli cakes from other bakeries.... just bought 2 Cartocci from them on 12/13/22 typical sicilian sweet, very disappointed on quality and freshness. once I cut open in two the cartoccio I noticed that a 1/3 of the ricotta cream feeling was not there on both pieces, so it is done on purpose, they do not feel the piece alway but just on the outside. Not only the price doubled to the consumer (us) they (Palermo Bakery) decided to even put less product to make even more money, this is how this place make money by stealing from their clients. I will never return to a place like this just because they are stealing from their clients and quality is not good either way or any originality. hope you take my review and avoid this place. I wasn't too excited to move to Norridge because my food-loving self knew that it wasn't going to be anything like the food mecca I moved from. While I was right, there came to be a small handful of places that would bring me joy...Palermo Bakery happens to be one of them. So much so that I actually had goodies from there 3 times last week...the first 2 times I went, the third time my aunt went to save me the embarrassment! Palermo offers a delicious selection of both sweet and savory. We had their cannolis, cupcakes, cookies, hot cocoa bombs, breads, pizza, arancini, and most recently their paczkis, nutella pastries, and sandwiches...all of which were great! I like how they come up with the cutest packages and treats for different holidays...perfect for giving away as little presents. They're always coming up with something new, which is what makes me come back for more. I just wished they were open on Sundays and earlier during the week so I could go before work, but then again, probably not a good idea for my waistline! read more

They have very good pastries and the arancini are a must try. Prices are pretty reasonable. The only problem some of the staff members have an attitude. I felt like I was a bother walking in. Not only are they super amazing to their employees, and have stellar customer service: but their social media is on point too. But on to the main thing - their baked goods. Hands down my favorite bakery! All of the cookies and pastries are amazing! The themed boxes/gifts are so cute and definitely worth the $. Had 2 hours to spare so I took a quick cab from O'hare to Palermo Bakery and got their famous pistachio cookies, some citron and some amaretti. The citron marzipan cookies are definitely an addiction as they go extremely well with pretty much with any drink or wine-- just the right amount of citrus without being lemon-y. Their pistachio is loaded with roasted pistachios & marzipan. WOW, I easily ate 5 on my way back, haven't had them in a while. I cant decide which one I like better, Bulgarini's Sicilian pistachio gelato or this. Palermo Bakery sells the largest variety of marzipan based Sicilian cookies I've seen here, easily addicting, oft craved. Tip: Palermo is a few miles from ORD, is in the middle of Schiller Park on Harlem, my favorite Sicilian bakery outside of Sicily. Ask for Mary the owner and she'll give you a tour of the Sicilian cookies over 30 varieties. Visits: 10+ read more

Decent little Italian bakery at Harlem & School. A good selection of fresh bread, hot items (like arancini, pizza, etc) and small pastries. But the highlight of this place is the vast selection of Italian cookies available. An entire case devoted to them, and there's a lot of flavours not often seen. Things like Pignoli Amaretti (pine nut cookies), Anginetti (iced lemon cookies), macaroons and of course biscotti are some of the ones I remember. Cakes are also available but I did not see any examples the day I went. Sadly, the cannoli did not live up to expectations. The chocolate coating was incredibly waxy, the filling way too smooth and super-sweet. But that's OK, as I am glad I found this place for its cooky selection as well as the lovely breads & foccacia. To be honest, if we had read the owner's responses to the low-star ratings before we went there, we would have gone elsewhere. That said, we ended up with gorgeous cakes that were exactly what we wanted. We had a very particular look in mind, so we half-expected a CakeWreck because our geeky idea idea of the Portal Weighted Companion Cube cake was really esoteric, but they did an amazing job. The almond paste was so delicious, and much better than fondant would have been. We got a tiramisu cake, though I don't recall ordering a tiramisu, but it was a huge hit at the party. Our second cake (The Cake Is a Lie...) was beautiful and unbelievably gorgeous. They followed our reference photos to a T, were affordable and very friendly. I'm also a huge fan on whipped cream icing/filling over heavy buttercream. If you're looking for buttercream and fondant, this might not be the place for you. But if you like a lighter cake with a nice fluffy icing, I highly recommend it. That said, I'm still very turned off by the rude response by the owner to those who didn't enjoy the bakery and feel very fortunate we didn't have any issues. Back when I was a kid we used to eat bread every morning. My lolo is a fan of bread and he liked any kind of bread. He used to pair it with some coffee. He used to tell me that to start your good day you need to have some hot coffee and some nice bread. It's been a long time since I visited my lolos grave. I decided to come to this place and bought some bread. I bought a pack of bread with different flavors. When I'm in the store it's too hard to choose what kinds of bread I should buy because all of their breads look delicious and yummy. After I bought it, I went to the fast food place to order coffee for takeout, then I went to the grave of my lolo. I put coffee in the graveyard and some bread. When I tasted the bread it was so delicious. I'm sure my lolo will love it too if he's alive. read more

I may be in the minority here but I was given a pre-packaged assortment of their cookies and they were dry as all get out. I love pignoli cookies, rainbow cookies n biscotti. There was one biscotti in there n it was just a sweet, one dimensional rock. No rainbow, no pignoli. I hope their pastries and in-store cookies are better. They may wanna rethink the whole pre-packaged thing because it likely takes away from what appears to be a positive image n brand. After having a few, I seriously threw away the rest. I have been getting my son's birthday cakes from here for the last four years or so. After 7 years, almost 8 we are finally expecting a new member of the family. This is my girlfriend's and I first baby together and most likely our last. We never experienced what it was like to have gender surprise or baby showers and such. This is our chance to try it all. We have been so excited and this bakery has started us on the wrong note. We walked in and ordered a cake for gender reveal. Esmeralda was the one to help us and she was great. She wrote what we wanted down and took our envelope with the surprise. She would be the first to know our babies sex. We set up the pick up for Friday. We decided to change the cake date to Saturday so I called a couple days later to change. The girl on the phone decided to read the order to me instead of just fixing the order. In reading the order to me she tells me it's a blue cake. Yup! She just ruined our surprise. I asked her in shock "did you just tell me what we are having? " she said "no, I'm just telling you the colors of the cake". I got off the phone and was in shock then upset because I knew she was lying. About an hour later I went into the bakery in person. Esmeralda was there and I asked her straight out did the person on the phone ruin the surprise for us? She apologized and said yes, that the girl said I asked her to read the order to me. Why the heck would I ask her to read the order!? I did not ask her to and that was a lie. The girl who ruined it blamed me for her mistake. I waited for the manager or owner to call me and apologize for this big mistake. I did not even cancel my order. I figured they would call and right their wrong but no one called. So I even gave them another chance and emailed them what had happen, left my phone number too. No one even bothered to call! I finally went in with my girlfriend and canceled. It is a shame this establishment is so unprofessional. I did not expect this. My family, my girls family, my friends, or I will never order from here again. They don't appreciate long time customers. Will never come here again after they destroyed a cake for my grandmother's birthday. Paula kept saying we agreed to the price. I am an attorney and would not have minded paying if she actually followed directions. She did not make the cake we wanted. We wanted a drip cake with the drawing of a squirrel on top. She make a cake with an orange border that was rigged and then added drips after. I can tell she forgot the drips and then just added them on top of the border she create. It looked like a rigged cake I could get at Jewel with a scan of a squirrel. I tolerated this place for a while because not a choice of Italian bakeries, but this is not even an authentic bakery. All their sweets taste the same whether you buy a cannoli or a cupcake or a cookie. They also make way too many things and then they are wasted and taste stale. Back to today, they would not even offer my mother anything at all. Sad they destroyed my grandmother's 89th birthday. As somebody who travels to Italy every year, their cannolis also taste nothing like the ones in Italy. None of their Italian sweets taste authentic. read more
