Beautiful, authentic, friendly- visited by many famous stars. We had the cortadillo (diced tender prime beef) and pechuga de pollo (chicken breast w/a bit of chipotle taste) and homemade tortillas. It's a very nice place and basically an upscale Taco Palenque. The inside is very dark with only the natural light making the inside visible more than the very very dim lighting. The server was very attentive though which was nice. The food was basic with an upscale pricing. I did not see anything unique or elevated Mexican dish. The best thing was what I think were chorizo beans served with the chips. The enchiladas were decent but some of the sides needed a bit more salt or seasoning as it was a bit bland. The volcanes were good but either the cheese or meat was a bit over seasoned as it was a bit salty. I do have a sensitive palate so to me it was salty. The hibiscus or Jamaica drink was good. Unfortunately we got some hard water stained glasses making it look dirty and one of the glasses actually still had old food on the side. Les than a mile from my hotel, was a great place to enjoy dinner, The Palenque Grill. Greeted at the door, seated very quickly, drink order taken and food was delivered as ordered. What else can you ask for? I forget the name of the plate I ordered, but I was thinking beef fajitas. Yes, I got the fajitas, grilled (stuffed) shrimp, a poblano pepper loaded with beans and cheese......... It seems the food would never end! We did a team dinner here during my Week 1 Laredo work trip. A couple people from our assignment mentioned this place and it's near the Holiday Inn hotel where some team personnel were staying. So of course it made sense to book here and hit this spot up. Having been to the Palenque Grill in McAllen in early 2020, I was impressed with their menu as they have a lot of tex-mex options but also different dishes that anyone can enjoy. And it was the same at this location. Our difficulty was trying to decide what to order but we had plenty of time to decide since we had a few team members who were arriving later than expected. So as we waited, we ordered drinks and munched on the complimentary chips, salsa, and beans that were served. As for drinks, they've got your typical beers (domestic and central american types) you would see at any tex-mex place. Also a nice selection of tequilas and cocktails. I decided on wine. Upon ordering a glass of zinfendel, they served me the white zinfendel; the one with the pinkish tint. I should've clarified with them I wanted red but nonetheless I drank it since I hate sending back alcohol. I decided on the Robert Mondavi cabernet as my next glass; much better. Finally everyone arrived and we ordered. I decided on the Tilapia Rellena which is the fish stuffed with cheese and shrimp. It was filling, tasty, and had that nice poblano cream sauce which gave it a nice touch. Paired with mexican rice and veggies, it was a satisfying meal. The person on my right ordered the tacos de asada which looked and smelled awesome while the one on my left got the fajitas de pollo which smelled great as well (although looked a bit plain) but she's that kind of person I guess. Our server was attentive and gave some recommendations and explanations on what we wanted to order. I never ask questions since the menu description is enough for me. Yet some people ask things that are simply in the menu. Like did you read the menu? Of course these were the same people who arrived late so that tells you all you need to know. Palenque Grill serves amazing food (Mexican or Tex/Mex depending on what you order) The chicharon de ribeye is amazing and a deal at $12(?) It comes with delicious house made tortillas and pico.de Gallo plus guacamole. The half order of panchos was $9 and easily feeds 4 people - also the chips and frijoles before the meal are fantastic. The star deduction is strictly on the service. Unfortunately, it was bare minimum and the server disappeared for long stretches when drinks, refills, and to go boxes were needed. We were there for a bday and we had to ask for the cake to be put in the fridge after 30 mins (most "high end" places will offer) My cousin even said they offered last time so it shows where the service and experience were lacking. read more

I came here while in Laredo for work. The place was very busy. I walked in and it took some time for the hostess to speak to me although he saw me several times. Once he acknowledged me he let me know it would be a wait. I provided my name and phone number. He advised they would call me within a few minutes. After about 20 minutes passing I walked inside and he stated someone should of called me. I let him know no one had. He stated there was a booth open. The waiter came immediately and was friendly and attentive. Food was great. I ordered chicken fajita plate. It cane with borracho beans which aren't pictured below but they were really good with a little spice. I had a limonada which was excellent. Tortillas were on point and guacamole was fresh. Went on the suggestion of HC at Alexander HS. Man, was he right about this place. What a great example of Mexican food in Laredo. We completely enjoyed our experience there. My wife had the chicken enchiladas and I had the Al Pastor tacos. They were really, really good. And the portions were unbelievably large. 3 big enchiladas and 4 tacos. Couldn't finish. Visited Palenque grill on the loop today. It was packet after graduation ceremonies. I was able to find a table for two. We were seated in a table with stains all over the table cloth from the previous people. The service was extremely slow before we ordered. I ordered a Tampiquena plate (27 bucks) and my daughter a Quesadilla al pastor (18 bucks). We had gotten the complementary chips and salsa. They came and went and still waited about 45 minutes before we got our meals. The Tampiquena "presentation" was SAD. One flat fajita steak (look more like milanesa); thus it was chewy and over done. One quesadilla with minimum cheese inside and flat and the cheese tasted sour. One chicken enchilada that tasted like a defrosted kind. The plate came with rice and beans (described as "Meh"). My daughter ordered the quesadilla pastor. It came with four tacos al pastor with melted cheese. The quesadilla tacos were dripping with grease. She ate one and a half and could not stomach anymore. The greasy food turned her stomach. It took us about an hour to get our food. This place is straight fire. I mean everything I ordered from here had outstanding flavor. It was so good I didn't even take a picture. As soon as I took a bite I couldn't stop. I wanted to take a picture but I couldn't stop eating. The flavors are the closest to authentic Mexican food that I've tasted in Laredo. I ordered delivery and it was pretty efficient although it seems like they have a bit of a problem utilizing the credit card function over the phone but if you have cash it's all good. My orders were the tampiqueno, taco vampiros and the enchiladas verde. You won't be disappointed with any of those choices. They are juicy, flavorful, decent size portions and nice and fresh. It is with a broken heart that I write this review. I have been a fan of this company for a long while, even posting on my Facebook when they opened a Taco Palenque in Round Rock. I received the visit of my sister and her family, and my handicapped mother, for Thanksgiving and we were planning on visiting the restaurant the following Saturday to have a nice evening, but what a mistake. They sat us at a table that was not set up, they were busy, granted. No napkins, glasses, or utensils. We had to wait for about 10 minutes before anybody took the time to attend to us. Even with a handicapped lady with us. We ask for water, and they brought us plastic cups with no ice on them. just one cup full of ice to share?!?! Was there a shortage of ice at the restaurant? My inlaw is American and does not speak English. When, Antonio, I think it was his name, the waiter came, started to speak in Spanish to him even after I told him he did not speak Spanish. It was very disrespectful of him. But he continue to do this the whole evening, as it was a joke, nobody laughed at our table for sure. Well, my inlaw asked for juices, the waiter, if you can call him that, said jugos, yes we have. Inlaw said orange juice, the waiter came back and said we only have apple juice. Went back and brought orange soda. my nephews do not drink sugary sodas, well, he did not care at all. But, why the lie? Completely unnecessary. Then he proceeded to place plastic utensils on our table. I ask him, do you expect us to eat with plastic ware? His response was, well when I bring silverware to the table customers ask me for plastic ware...that was a lie, which continued the whole night. Very disrespectful again. We ordered a bottle of Merlot. which he brought and left it half-open to attend another table, I had to finish the process. The bottle was chill, again. in what kind of "first-class" restaurant red wine is served chilled!?!? When the food was ready, another waiter brought the food and took it to the table next to us!!! Then, a different waiter told him it was ours!!! Again "first-class" service!! By the way, we still had plasticware on our tables. I had to remind Antonio to get us silverware. He brought it and instead of setting it up properly, he put them in the middle of the table for us to reach for them, he brought no knives. Quite inappropriate. My mother has arthritis rheumatoid and can not feed herself, less cut her own food. How can we cut her food with no knives? I had to chase a waiter to get a knife. Terrible!!! Just absolutely no care for my handicapped mother. Incredible!! A very mortifying experience altogether, but there is more...the manager came to our table and told us..." you should have called me"...so it was our fault we endured this experience. Instead of her walking around all the tables just to see if everything is fine, supervising the staff and not just standing at the door like a post. Then when we ask for to-go containers from a lady from the staff she brought my mother a box for her soup, went back, took like 10 minutes to bring the right one. When she did I ask her to assist my mother in putting her soup on the plastic container and she left without assisting, again, a handicapped old lady. Quite embarrassing. Sad experience for all of us from a place that for years we have visited and promoted with clients, friends, and family. The worst part is that I do not expect a corrective action as the "Laredo mentality" is to cover for each other and stay mediocre at best. read more

This is my first time in Laredo, and I couldn't be more excited to try out all the food. This restaurant was on the way to my destination and I was ridiculously hungry. I loved getting acknowledged when I first walked in and being able to pick my own seat. I was able to grab a booth and enjoy some natural light from the sun. My waitress grabbed me some water and I scoured the menu for what I wanted. I was a little disappointed appointed there wasn't any ceviche on the menu- they had an appetizer where ceviche came on a tostada, but not a small bowl of ceviche. I would have loved to try that! I stumbled upon the tacos section and honed in on exactly what I wanted- Matamoros tacos. They were double tortilla-d, came with some sirloin, cheese, and a slice of avocado. All of that sounded amazing to me. I ordered it and patiently waited for my meal. When it arrived, all of the tacos were wrapped in foil. Needless to say, the presentation was all but flattering. When I opened it up, I was disappointed again. I guess I expected something more. I normally get tacos like these in Mexico, and while I understand this isn't Mexico, I expected the presentation to be better. The flavor was okay. Nothing special. From the moment you walk in the atmosphere is incredible, nice set up. You get a serving of chips with salsa and some Refried beans to start of them we hit the Mango Margarita with chamoey and it was outstanding, simply delicious. We ordered a Sombrero Sampler that came with flautas, quesadilla, cheese empanadas, and some mini biscuit with beam and chorizo and was outstanding also.
