This was a really great Mexican restaurant in Laredo Texas. Happened to be visiting for the weekend and when we were getting ready to leave Monday I decided to have lunch before getting on the road. It was hoppin' . Almost every table was filled. It was shortly before one pm so some of the lunch crowd still lingered there. Nonetheless, we were seated quickly. We ordered our beverages, the waiter took one look at me and said Margarita?, I didn't know my face could be so easily read! Since, I wanted to help on the way home by paying attention during the drive I did not imbibe on this occasion. Something I found unique-once our drinks were delivered a basket of chips along with a platter containing soup cup size portions of beans, two different kinds of fresh salsa (one hotter than the other) and a type of guacamole sauce. They provide this on a complementary basis!! I was stunned. We were forewarned by our friends that the portions were more than adequate. We definitely took this into consideration or at least most people did. My daughter ordered Crispy Tacos Dorados -Beef Sirloin . Our hostesses That took us in for the weekend,ordered soft tacos with Tender sliced beef sirloin inside. Both platters had lots of lettuce, tomatoes and shredded cheese to complement the tacos. Whenever I go to a new Mexican restaurant I must have the Chile Relleno one of my favorite Mexican dishes. They offered either cheese stuffing or Picadillo which is what I chose. My plate also came with plenty of lettuce tomatoes beans and rice. I know when they batter and fry my dish that it's certainly not on the low end of the calorie list. This was a nice medium sized pepper adequately stuffed with the Picadio, lightly battered in a very eggy batter and lightly fried. My plate came with out a drop of grease under the relleno. The flavor was delicious. The rice had a lot more flavor than most with some tiny pieces of tomato and peppers within it. The refried beans had the tiniest amount of ground meat giving them very different texture and solid flavor. I wish I had caught the name of our server as he was very attentive keeping our beverages filled constantly and checking in to see if we were satisfied with our orders. I was advised that the owner insisted they all split the tips(i'm hoping he doesn't dip into that money too). Anyway that meant that the servers names were not on the tickets because they didn't need to know for tip purposes. We left a generous tip do the outstanding service and delicious food and he obviously realized it as he came over and personally held the door open for us on our way out. It was a great experience and I would definitely go back there should I be in Laredo again. read more

I came here for dinner on a Monday as it was right next door to my hotel. The place seemed busy but i was greeted right away and taken to a booth immediately. My server approached my shortly after and took my drink order and food order. I ordered the camarones aguachile to start with and the enchiladas callejeras for my entree (substituted the potatoes for steamed veggies). The server promptly took my order and then brought over complementary chips, beans and salsa. The toasted flour tortilla added a nice touch that you don't see elsewhere, at least not anywhere I've been. The camarones aguachile are not for the faint of heart. The menu does have a Chile pepper depicting this to be a very spicy dish. If you're not used to spicy, this is not for you. The dish was delicious and I couldn't get enough for it but be prepared for the heat it packs. The enchiladas then made their way to my table. They were everything I expected them to be. Reminded me of the ones my mother would make me growing up. The veggies were perfectly cooked as well, not soggy as they often get when steaming. The service was great and I will be back here when I'm back in town for another work trip. I did also order a caldo tlalpeno and agua de jamaica to-go so will update my review once I've tried those. My total came out to be ~$44 for everything which I think it's a great bang for your buck. read more

All I got to say is just wow! This place is amazing. The food quality was out of this world good. I had the tacos. It was thin sliced, marinated, prime beef on flower tortillas. Four of them! Everything was just incredible. Also, I haven't been commenting on COVID responses, because things are changing so much and it's unfair to hold restaurants to all the million different things. Plus, if you're eating in, you are making a choice to accept risk and be out anyway. That said, I have a ton of respect and admiration for the effort this restaurant has done. They went way above and beyond, and for someone like me who doesn't really care, I was blown away. They deserve recognition. They have paper towels and hand sanitizer at all the doors, so you don't have to touch them. Everyone is wearing a mask AND shield. They give you a disposable bag to place your mask in while eating. They give you huge single use cups for your drink. The tables are very spaced out. My husband ordered delivery ($50min) from here one Sunday afternoon. They were really busy but the guy on the phone who took the order was friendly and patient. Delivery was prompt and our food was hot and delicious! I had enchiladas verdes, stuffed with lots of delicious chicken. My husband had the Tampiqueña, which is great choice for the undecided, you get a variety of the menu items. The portions are pretty large and the leftovers reheated well in the oven the next day. Then some guy took my drink order where I requested a Margarita and a water. 10 minutes later still no water or Margarita. So, I walked out and will find somewhere else to eat. When we got our meal order, when we were about to leave, we realized we were missing an one of the 3 meal orders, we turned around and told them we were missing one meal order, the manager tried arguing with us that we had received the 3 meal orders! ‍ I told him he was more then welcomed to check our vehicle and see we were not hiding any extra orders!! He declined and went ahead and got us the meal order we were missing ‍ ALWAYS CHECK ORDER BEFORE DRIVING OFF, no matter if there is a long line behind you!!! Based on my recent visit, Palenque Grill on HWY 35 was 10 x better - service, food, and everything else. This specific location currently has a limited menu I guess, and I just asked for some beef tacos and chicken tacos. Those suckers arrived plain as hell with just beef, chicken, and a couple grilled onions on the side; I wasn't offered any toppings, sauces, or anything to make these tacos enjoyable. My waiter continually acted like he did not want to serve me (literally walking away every time he asked if I was okay), and I was without a drink (margarita or water) for about 20 minutes before he noticed. WAY too expensive for that type of food and service. Note: I travel frequently, and I was visiting Laredo for work. read more

In for lunch on a Tuesday. Seated immediately, drink order taken and delivered quickly. Good for me as I only have an hour for lunch and have to drive back. Cloth table cloths, metal utensils, ceramic plates, paper napkins. Spanish music playing in the background at a reasonable level adds to ambience. Table set up includes chips, both corn and flour, chili and pick to dip in as well as hot chili sauce and limes with a press. See photos. I know it's a small thing but I really liked that they had Stevia as a sweetener for your tea. It's all I normally use and you rarely find it at a restaurant so I normally drink tea unsweetened. Nice decor inside. Ordered beef fajitas. My tea never got more than half empty, service was very good. The fajitas were tender, flavorful, and cut short enough for the tortillas which seemed home made. Total for my meal was $ 25.50 with $3 for the tea. I will be back soon for dinner. read more

Even though it's one of the fanciest and priciest places of its ilk in Laredo, the food is fantastic and the service is top notch. I absolutely love the salsas and bean slurry that comes with the chips, all of the grilled meats (especially the sweetbreads), the amazing flour tortillas and even their seafood fare. I've gotten the aguachile every time I've visited and it's spicy and fresh. Even though there's often a wait for a table, don't miss this place when you're in Laredo. read more

Just in town for some business and found this place walking distance from my hotel. They bring you a few complimentary items: chips with guacamole, bean dips, fresh salsa, and two different salsa's (mild and spicy)-on point, truth be told the best part of the meal! The food selection was mouth-wateringly good but I will say that what I and my brother ordered were a bit lack luster. He ordered the brochetas (beef skewers) and he said they lacked seasoning on both the meat and the veggies. The portions were good since he ended up needing a to go box. I ordered the Camarones Cuchi Cuchi (shrimp in creamy sauce) with steamed veggies (carrots, squash and broccoli) and white rice that also had mixed vegetables in it and it was good but not life changing. Palenque grill is a really nice clean restaurant,excellent customer service an a very attentive staff. This review is for late lunch for two on a Sunday. bar Although there is not a bar per-se, in that there isn't a bar with seating, there is a credible bar with some reasonable margaritas. The beer selection looked to be all the usual suspects - an array of Mexican beers and the big U.S. producers. Our server was hesitant to offer too many suggestions, but when she did her options were great. Plenty of attention to anything we needed or wanted. food The chips, refried beans, salsas and all the other complimentary appetizers are amazing. Really great stuff. Also for apps, we had a new addition to the menu. These are somewhat difficult to describe, but they are basically spicy red potatoes. The 'taters are steamed or baked, then swathed in a super hot, super spicy, super tasty sauce. Not for the timid, but they're spectacular. For entrees, I think I just ordered wrong. I went with carnitas. It's the only pork dish that I saw on the menu. Or, maybe this is a different version of carnitas that I'm not familiar with? Anyway, I'd suggest you go with beef or maybe seafood. There's lots and lots of beef on the menu, some quite nice cuts and preparations. details Plenty of parking in adjacent parking lots. I've been to this place before a few year back and was back in town on business. Since it was very conveniently close to my hotel I decided to try it again. Let me tell you they really emphasize the service and great quality food. They start by being you two trays one with salsas and another with a salsa, beans, chips and tostadas.... the beans are very tasty and the salsas are excellent along with the pick de gallo. My main dish was the "surf and turf"....the steak had the perfect seasoning and the shrimps were wrapped in bacon with cheese....although you only get two they are the 12 and under size so that was enough. As for desert I tried the Churros---my goodness they were very Delicious . I want to mention that when you sit down they bring the utensils along with a small plastic bag to put your face mask in while you eat.....great idea! As for the service the manager on was constantly visiting tables to make sure you are okay! Bottom line-the food, ambiance and service is great! read more

The food is great and the service is top notch. The price, however, is a little steep. $2.50+ got soda or tea? That's more than an ice tea at Starbuck's!!! Before you even order, there is a plate set on the table that includes toasted tortillas and corn chips along with refried beans and salsa. I had the enchiladas and they were some of the best I've ever had. They use a traditional white cheese instead of cheddar or american. Good move. Instead of the typical rice, they have potatoes. The flour and corn tortillas are homemade and done perfectly! Overall, I'd give the food 5-stars, but the enchilada plate was more than $10.00 and the tea is also too expensive. I ate here last year and had a great experience as they had lunch specials that included tea and the total was less than $10. Now I don't think you could eat a decent lunch here for under $10 - even if you just order water! One thing that happened last time really made a good impression. I left my debit card on the table after I paid and the waiter found me in the parking lot to return it to me. I appreciate waiters that keep an eye out for their customers. Appetizer was a Crema Poblana soup served with fried flour tortillas chip croutons. It tasted as the name suggests and half way through the dang thing I realized it was full of corn.. Enjoyable, but nothing spectacular. Entre was Chile Relleno de Camaron and the beans served with the entre were different, and not as good as the beans served with the chips and salsa. The chile rellenos was good, but un impressive. My overall impression is that the ambiance is classy, but the cuisine is mediocre, inconsistant and overpriced. My husband started with a ceviche appetizer (although the portion was easily entree size) and then had a dish of spicy beef tips (the name of which escapes me now). The beef ribs with grilled onions were DELISH! Carnitas....not so much. But I could eat the beef ribs a million times over!

I had a great time here, our waiter knew the menu inside/out. He made some recommendations about what to order and I have to say the food was great. To start, they will bring a plate with tortilla chips, refried beans and hot sauce. Then we order some Camarones AguaChile: Spicy stuff. I order the Costillas Palenque and few Whiskeys (Grand Old Parr) and everything was well prepared. Ribs full of flavor, meat almost falling out of the bone.
