We really enjoyed our experience here. Service was top notch....we asked for limes for our water and got a plate full of key limes with a juicer..... Awesome! Hubby had the enchilada verde and they were huge! Stuffed with meat! He said they were excellent and the verde sauce was the best. I had the spaghetti cuchi cuchi with shrimp And I am most definitely going to try to recreate this at home! Only thing I thought I was missing was bread to sop up the sauce.... Oasis in the desert...thts what this place is!! Laredo is a desert for food lovers, and this place is the oasis for certain! Great food, excellent service and uncompromising ambience!! Loved this place. They serve fresh chips with salsa, beans, pico de gallo and avocado. Delicious!!! Had the tilapia with Mexican sauce on top. Fish was fresh and the flavor was to die for!!it was topped with sautéed onions tht made it taste even better! Must try - the tres leches cake!!!just dont even look at the menu and order this . While in Laredo, I always try and come here. There's just the right amount of Mexican food variety to keep anyone looking for this type of food interested. The service is nice and friendly. I haven't been disappointed with the food. This is a perfect environment to have food and a good laugh with friends while getting a buzz. Plus, they don't stop serving until late, which definitely helps! In addition, this is a good place to bring a date. The lighting is dim, that way everyone looks good. That ensures you don't see the cilantro stuck in your dates teeth. The waiter's definitely assist in ensuring your date feels like a lady. Very impressed with the customer service! I called from Dallas to surprise my in-laws with a birthday dinner. Maricela, the night shift manager, took care of everything! She made it possible for us to pay over the phone so my in-laws never had to see the bill. She also surprised my father in-law with tres leches cake and happy birthday. After, she called us to let us know everything went smoothly. I am so impressed with how Maricela treated my family!! She was wonderful! read more

I used to go here often, probably once a week (up until I moved to California). Palenque Grill is a high-end authentic Mexican restaurant in Laredo, Texas. My friends and I enjoy the ambience and the eating and drinking especially on the nice days where we can chill outside on the patio. Service is inconsistent. Sometimes great and sometimes disappointing. Language barriers also tend to be a problem sometimes and we were not always able to get a server that spoke English. However even with the "miss or hit" service, it doesn't stop us from going and having a good time. read more

Service is always great, and fresh made lemonade, yum! Beef fajita tacos or beef fajita plate, you can't go wrong! The meat is tender and juicy. Beef ribs could use more meat for the price (still delicious) wife had chicken fajitas, better than most places. The only reason for not a five star, the tortillas could use some attention, and the tripas....well stay clear of them, but then again not everyone can master those! LoL read more

In my travels, I arrived at the Laredo area and to my surprise found this little gem right next to my hotel. As I relied on this establishment night after night as my source of protein food was consistently excellent (A+), and service is and continues to be nothing short of outstanding. In a city where the choice of restaurants is limited, the Palenque Grill offers a good alternative. While still Mexican, like the majority of restaurants in Laredo, the atmosphere and quality of the food is much nicer than others. I have been here a few times usually on a Friday or Saturday and the place is always packed. The atmosphere is great with lots of people on the weekends and a variety of musicians playing at different times - some are very talented and others not so much. In trying to stay healthy I always seem to gravitate towards the Orange Roughy. Grilled in foil to keep the fish intact while on the grill it has the side effect of loosing that very flavor. But I guess there is no other way to do this. It is still a very nice dish and above all healthy. The sauce is a bit plain as are the accompaniments. The place is a bit on the expensive side, but overall with the atmosphere and food its a good choice for us out-of-towners. read more

There aren't enough descriptive words to tell you how much I love this place! I visit Laredo once every couple of months for work and am sure to visit here each time. Once seated you are served warm chips (corn and grilled flour tortillas) and a variety of sauces. The pinto bean dip & avocado salsa are my favorites. Great for families. Terrible if you're looking for good food and good beer. Out of the two beers my table ordered, one was completely flat and the other one had lipstick on the glass. My enchiladas were like eating a block of cheese in a tortilla. The cheese sprinkled on top wasn't even melted either. I could only finish one and I snacked on the mashed potatoes (?? Really? Even though potatoes with tex mex is kind of out of left field, it was the best thing on my plate.) The reason this gets two stars instead of one is because of the awesome complimentary bean dip we started with and because they were so accommodating for our group of 11 where 5 were children. I love the food here; the fish tacos are the best I've ever had. The chips, salsa, green sauce and beans are wonderful. The margaritas are excellent and made with fresh line juice. And, they are open late. On my last visit, it was 10:30 p.m. when I arrived and I ordered a plate of three tacos. The waitress asked "It's late, do you want three tacos or just two?" I asked "I can order just two?" She said "Sure, you can order what ever you want." She brought my two tacos and the price was reduced by 1/3. I'm writing this review a day later and I'm still full from my meal yesterday. I even took leftovers to go. This is not a testament to the appearance that I don't eat much (I actually eat a ton), but rather how much deliciousness was served that I couldn't help but stuff myself. The chips came out on two plates, with an entire plate dedicated to salsas and limes and another plate full of chips and more salsa. Great restaurant in Laredo! Waitstaff are very attentive. (This is my second time here and I can vouch for that both times.) On both visits, I ordered the shish-ka-bobs on rice, but swapped one for chicken. I have to say they marinate and spice up their meats oh so well! It was one of those situations where my tastebuds want it all and my stomach says, whoa there! That's okay as I just opted to savor the rest of it for a later meal. So delicious! It's difficult to rate Mexican restaurants in Laredo because there are so many and most are alright. PG is a bit on the classier side, and it tends to be quite crowded for dinner on weekdays and weekends. You get a lot of authentic food in parrilladas, but you do pay a pretty penny. The price for the food was not bad at all but the margaritas were terrible. I had to send mine back because it tasted like a slushy with no liquor in it. That was very disappointing. I picked this place based on the recommendation of the front desk clerk at the Hampton Inn where I was staying. I described the type of Mexican restaurant I was looking for (small mom/pop owned/operated by a Mexican family) and the Palenque was nothing like this. The food was decent, but I didn't like the TV's, the weird stand they tried to get me to use to hang my purse on, and the chips were like 2X4s and were a meal in themselves. I ordered the two chicken tacos w. rice & beans, and it was good and the serving size was a bit more than I could finish. The wait staff was very attentive (overly?) and my drink was never half empty. I'd recommend it for large families or people who want to watch the game while they eat. This place is quite good! I always try to stop by whenever I come through town, I know I wont be disappointed with going here. The good: Starters/condiment: Queso is really good but the bean dip and salsa is very good on it's own Chicken Mole- this is the only place that is comparable to the best I've ever had, no one comes close. The chicken has been hit or miss but the sauce has been on point every time. Taco al Pastor- Again, these tacos were on par with the best I've had. The pork is seasoned perfectly, not too much and never bland. Service- I've only had one questionable experience here, but it seems to be a trend with Laredo establishments. Our group had a server that did not speak one word of english to us, even after we told her repeatedly that we don't speak spanish. She was still a good server and all of the other times have been very good. Some give good conversation and others are very attentive. Proximity-if you're staying at LaQuinta, you can get completely inebriated and walk back :) Bad: Price- some dishes are understandable while other are completely over priced. $17 for 5 tacos and no sides...c'mon now. $2.69 for refillable coke...SMH. Do the prices prices keep me from going back? No, it just makes it a little harder to swallow...great food none the less. read more

My favorite thing about this place is the beans they give you for your chips, limonda, enchiladas, and the chamoy margaritas. I think the food is yummy but a bit too expensive when I can go to Taco Palenque and pay less for it. This is just a fancier version of a TPs (which is the point of Palenque Grill). read more

We attended a groom's dinner at Palenque Grille so likely had a unique experience. Our server took a really long time to get our drinks but the buffet style of our special event got us through the food line and eating quickly. The taquitos were my favorite, while build-your-own fajitas weren't bad either. The pico de gallo had really great bite and the warm tortillas were freshly grilled. My margarita tasted like a mix and was much too sweet but overall we did like the food and appreciated the authentic feeling atmosphere. read more

Warning, it can get packed...call for reservations no matter what night of the week. Food: One word...samplers! Try any of the samplers, they are all very good. Heck, a group of 5 can get full off of the appetizer sampler alone! The sauces are very delish. And I don't know what they marinate into their meats, but it is very tasty. Great place, this is good authentic Mexican food, this is not Mexican American or TexMex. The price is well worth it when you compare it with the food quality and the amount of waiters walking around willing to help any table. They have a good size patio to hang out with friends for a cold refreshment and the waiters will never leave you thirsty. Try the 'aguachile', fresh shrimp in lime juice & jalapeno sauce. Awesome staff! Awesome food! Came here by mistake because we tried to go next door to Capatraz, no service. Luckily that place sucked and we walked out. We are in town a couple times a year from Colorado and we will be back here every time! Great portions for the money. You will leave stuffed! Can't say enough about this place. YUMMY!
